Chapter 4
Jungkook plopped on his bed as a sigh escaped his lips, feeling tired from all the mess he went through today. He was tired, but he didn't allow himself to rest for long as he turned and grabbed his phone that he had left near his bedside table while he had gone to take a shower.
He scrolled and found Josephine's number, as he had stolen it from his sister's phone earlier that morning.
Josephine was Shanzay's younger sister as well as the girl Jungkook had had a crush on for a while now, but he had never made it obvious because Josephine's type was someone far too different than him. As Shanzay had informed him of in the past. When he had casually asked about her sister.
" I don't plan to give up that easily; I need to at least make a move," Jungkook murmured to himself as he checked his Kakao account again, making sure no one could recognize that it was him from it. He had changed his username and his profile pic too. He had put a random picture of a watch he had snapped a shot of, since he wanted to get one exactly like that.
He hovered over her contact for a few seconds before he took a deep breath and started texting Josephine.
She replied to him casually after a while, and the two started typing away until she actually questioned him about who he was, and Jungkook let his tongue travel along his inner cheek, slowly.
"I am just someone who wants to know you better." He texted back, feeling slightly nervous, for certainly anyone would block a stranger who seemed fishy. But he had gone into so much trouble to conceal his identity just to make sure that he wouldn't embarrass himself by texting her. The anonymity gave him a sense of security and a bit of much-needed courage.
To his surprise, however, she sent a laughing emoji back before she replied. "It's nice to hear that a Kim is interested in me. I don't mind getting to know you more either."
Jungkook sat up at her reply, wondering what gave him away and how she figured out who he was.
Did she have my number already? Oh, maybe she had been interested in me too.
His face lit up at the thought, and he smiled as he texted back. "I am sorry if I come off too strong. I was pondering for a long while to find the right way to reach out to you."
"That's unexpected, to be honest. I never thought this could happen." Josepjine swirled around in her bed, giggling and kicking her feet, joyful and shy over how straightforward he seemed to be. Not even trying to hide that he liked her.
"Were you hoping that it would?" His reply appeared on her screen, making her eyes sparkle, and her fingers hesitated, scared to admit that she had been stealing glances at him every time they came across each other, hoping he would notice her or pay some attention to her.
"Well...you may have plenty of people who are hoping you look their way already." She texted back, and Jungkook smirked at the way she avoided a direct reply.
"I don't care if there are. I care only if you were. So, what do you say? Would you accept going out on a date with me?" He went all in, and Josephine stood up from her bed, reading and rereading his text, jumping around her room in happiness. This was such an unexpected turn of events in this mundane day she had had.
Who would have thought that all this time she had been waiting on him would so unexpectedly pay off.
He sure was good at hiding it; however, she had been with him all day, and not even once had Taehyung given her even the faintest idea that he was interested in her. This was just wild to her, her boss whom so far she was only a secretayr too, had finally noticed her and was actually asking her out on a date.
She halted her feet for a moment, checking the text again and again and the profile pic, to make sure she wasn't hallucinating. But there was no way she would mistake that watch, for it was Taehyung's favorite.
He was known to keep his personal life separate from work; hence, no one knew his personal phone number. It seemed like she was the favorite one; however, not only did she get to have him texting her from his personal number, but he was also confessing that he was interested in her and asking her on a date.
"This must be the luckiest night of my life." She squealed with happiness, right before she stopped herself, brushed some of her hair from her face, and typed back to him.
"I would love to go out with you." Jungkook's body jolted from his lying position on his bed into a sitting one, feeling happy that this had gone well.
"Dinner tomorrow at 9, then. I will send a car to pick you up."
---Change of set---
Luetta kept walking down the streets with a piece of paper at hand, trying to find the address of the apartment the government had given her to live in, as after prison she had nowhere to stay. She had spent some hours being warned by her probation officer, Oumi, to be careful and not cause any issues, cause points would be deducted from her, and she would end up in court. If the court were to rethink its decision to let her on probation, they could send her back to prison to finish her sentence there; hence, that was not to her benefit. So Oumi had warned her to not get involved in fights from now on and no matter what she was to make sure she doesn't do any new offense against the law.
It was clear to Luetta that Oumi didn't want to be the one to be obligated to recommend that he be sent back to prison, and Luetta appreciated that she seemed to have fallen under the surveillance of a nice, kind-hearted officer, but she also was aware that she could not truly keep away from trouble and spare the worry of her probation officer. For Luetta knew well that she had a lot of people that didn't like her.
But she sure was determined to try her best to keep living free, for being outside really seemed fun. She felt so happy today, enjoying being alive after so long. Despite how the day ended, her smile had not faltered from her face, inhaling and exhaling with joy in her heart.
The amount of walking she had done trying to find the right address, however, had started to affect her happiness, leaving her looking around at addresses and house numbers in confusion and tiredness, until her steps halted when she noticed a black car stopped in front of a building. A man dressed in all black leaned against it casually, along with another who seemed to notice her presence first and murmur something to the other.
She plastered a smile on her face before the taller man had the chance to turn around, already guessing who it could be for his car, and he himself looked too fancy to have any reason to be in the neighborhood she was in.
"What a surprise, the one and only, Kim Taehyung," Luetta spoke as she made her way closer to him, Taehyung having now turned around to face her figure that halted her footsteps before him. "It sure has been a while."
"Yes...Yes it has." Taehyung didn't match her smile, but he did retrieve the bouquet of flowers his chauffeur was holding and handed it to her. "Congratulations on making it out."
Luettta took the flowers and gave them a quick sniff, her smile growing wider. "Thank you. It's all thanks to you and the lawyers you paid for me."
The two made eye contact after her words, and they stayed in silence, her knowing that she had said out loud something that was risky, for it would be better if no one ever found out about that.
Taehyung was also from the Kim family after all. His father and the father of Namjoon, Sania, and Jungkook were brothers. If anyone ever were to know that he had been helping her behind their backs, their families would face some collisions. And he certainly couldn't afford to create problems for his father. It was well known to all, after all, that Taehyung's father was second to his brother, and he didn't have as much power.
"That never happened,"Taehyung uttered after a while, making Luetta giggle over the fact that his stance seemed to not have changed. Just like the fear in his eyes seemed not to have changed either.
"I assume I finally have the right address. You found it easier than me." She changed the subject, looking behind her at the stairs that lay ahead and the many small houses that were placed on the sides of the passage.
"Yes, it's the third one on the left. It looked pretty shabby. From what I saw from the window, it barely had anything in it." Taehyung informed her just as he gestured with his head to his driver, and he rushed to open the trunk of the car, pulling out a quilt and a suitcase from it.
"You got these for me? You sure are thoughtful." Luetta looked down at the object the driver placed near her feet, then back up at Taehyung's expressionless face.
"I didn't do anything." He replied as he reached into the inner pocket of his coat and pulled out an envelope, handing it to her. " You bought them yourself, and you found this at home too."
She retrieved the thick envelope, already guessing that it had money on it, and then she laughed. "I sure am one lucky person. Finding all this."
Taehyung turned around and opened the door of his vehicle, not sparing another glance at her, and his driver rushed to his seat, while Luette simply waved at him with a smile before the car took off.
The silence in the car made the driver feel the tension as he glanced once and twice at the mirror towards Taehyung in the back seat, who forced himself to only look ahead and not turn to steal a glance at her again.
"Sir?"
"Just get me home."
