Chapter 43
Over the course of the next couple hours, I had told her almost everything I could, purposely leaving out the parts about her mother. She had many questions, but I could only answer so many. With each passing hour my heart broke a little more for dumping all of this on her. I loved her. I really did but I couldn't keep this life a secret from her especially not now when she is a part of us.
Silence filled the air, and I had no idea what to say next. My mind was blank, my stomach empty. The sun had begun to set, the orange and pink hues lit up the curtains and sky. The humans would always take photos of the sunset. I've seen so many sunsets that it bores me now. I don't understand what was so majestic about it. Same story with the sunrise.
My younger days were filled with laughter and joy until I hit fifty years old and still looking like I was 18. It all became boring. I knew my life wasn't the same and won't ever be. I had lost my joy in life now all I wanted was peace and silence. My family had always nagged me to find a woman. Find a soulmate. Find a lover. But it wasn't as easy as they thought it was. I couldn't just pick any random woman to be mine. It didn't work like that. Humans were born, lived, aged and died yet here I was still alive, never dying.
Isabella was perfect. She had it all, beauty, looks, power, strength, kindness, intelligence. She knew exactly what she wanted meanwhile I had no redeeming qualities except for the fact I lived on forever and never aged. I was smart in some sense, yes, but not as smart as my parents. I was a good fighter, yes, but there were better.
"This is our secret from the humans," I said finally. "You can't leave just yet. Not until we know how to help you."
She looked at me blankly. I knew what she was thinking. She probably thought I was treating her like a little child but in fact, she was. In Vaewolf's age she was just a baby starting out, finding her way around the world. We needed to find the only existing vaewolf and fast. He was the only one who knew how to help.
"There is someone like your specie. He is older but the only one of your kind aside from you," I state dully. "We'll set out tomorrow to find him. Stay here in the meantime." I got up and left the room. My head hurt as the headache set in. I should have had my meal last night. My stomach rumbled and I leaned against the door.
"How did it go?" Vienna said next to me, scaring the daylights out of me.
I paused for a moment. "Terrible."
"Why?" she asked. "Did she want to leave?"
"I feel so bad for dumping all of this on her. She was silent for the most part. She's probably still processing it. I told her she couldn't leave just yet until we find that ex of yours."
"My—What! Mark, have you lost your mind?! No way in hell are we going to do that!" Vienna argued.
"Keep your stupid voice down. We are doing it and if you don't want to come with me, I'm going to do this myself." I sighed and walked down the dark hallway. It was so typical of her to do this. Weather she likes it or not, I'm doing it.
If we don't help Isabella, she will go rogue and then our cover will be blown. The mortals will kill her and then they will hunt for the rest of us and I can't have that. Not yet.
"I'm going to go hunting. I need something in my system. The war is coming tomorrow so we need to be prepared," I said finally.
Vienna didn't say a word as I walked away in the opposite direct. Her eyes burnt into my back as I turned the corner and glided down the stairs with ease. It was much faster when I didn't have someone complaining about the length of stairs next to me. The darkness didn't really bother me but I already knew exactly where everything was, how the furniture was laid out and everyone knew I hated when things moved from their usual spots, so no one dared to test me.
I slid easily through the door and took in the fresh outside air. It reminded of the first time I hunted. My father was with me and had taught me everything I knew. I had become so used to hunting I could end someone's life without a second thought. My father used to tease his brother for not knowing how to hunt for his own food. To think a four hundred year old vampire couldn't hunt and find food still amazes me. Just step into the sun, uncle. He died not long after though.
I walked through the forest, the huge trees easily shadowed me, but I didn't mind. There was something calming about them. This place was like my second home. I used to come here a lot when I was young, sit by the waterfall and do my homework. Watch the water crash down on the rocks. It was always the best place to be until my family would catch me when I was out for far too long.
"Well, well, well, we meet again Mark," a familiar voice said behind me.
I really wasn't in the mood to have this charade. I took a deep breath in and closed my eyes for a few seconds. "Victoria. Good to see you again. What do I owe this pleasure?"
"I hope your crew is ready," she said and smiled. She had a mischievous look on her face, one that made it seem like she was planning something. With Victoria, who knows what she is up to.
"Always ready. Can't wait to beat your ass once again." I smirk and take a few steps back. I didn't trust her. Never did.
"You won't be able to beat me this time." She tapped her cheek and smiled. Shadows of wolves appeared between the trees in the distance behind her.
The last war between both sides was a huge fight. She had run away before we could kill her off. Everyone had been defeated but not her. It was time to finish her off and about damn time.
"The war isn't here until tomorrow. What's with the party?" I asked, leaning my head to the side.
"Well, I decided to bring it forward." Her smile went wider, her long black nails tapping on her chin. "Let's do it now."
"Are you crazy?! I need time to summon everyone!" I couldn't believe it. I needed time. No one can come this fast. There was no harm in trying anyway.
I had to use the telepathic communication to summon everyone on my side. If this war was going down, I wasn't going down without a fight. I took a few steps back and looked her dead in the eyes. She didn't like losing but this time she was going to for a second time.
It didn't take long for everyone to arrive. There was a tense silence in the air. No one made the first move. Vienna didn't come, just as I instructed her which was good. She had to stay with Isabella.
"You've gone too far Victoria," I say and pace back and forth.
"You're going down, Mark." She had a big smile on her face that I just wanted to slap away.
Time seemed to go in slow motion, more wolves appeared behind Victoria, that smirk never left her face. If only she knew converting one wolf would not impact us.
"Let go," Victoria yelled in the dead silence.
That was our queue. It started. A large wolf from Victoria's side ran forward, without hesitation the leader of the pack from our side ran towards them. They were locked in battle. In my gaze, I almost didn't see Vienna's sidekick come up to me and almost punch me in the head. I ducked and watched him twirl around. I grabbed his hand and twitched his arm behind his back. The lovely sound of his joint dislocating was pleasure to my ears. He screamed out in pain, but it was instantly drowned out by the war happening around us.
He wasn't dead yet, but I was going to make sure he was. I kicked him in the waist and watched him double over. The next part was easy. One elbow to the back of his head was all it took to knock him out.

The fight had gone on for a long while, Victoria's minions were going down likes flies but they kept coming. I had knocked out or killed a good twenty of them, but they kept coming. A werewolf had approached me, and I instantly knew who it was. Alfred. He looked like he was reading to attack me where I stood. I knew he wouldn't do this, not the real him.
"Alfred," I said calmly, trying to calm my nerves. "You don't want to do this. We are best friends, remember?"
His eyes seemed to change colour then back to their original colour. It looked like he was fighting with himself. Good vs Evil.
"You don't want to hurt me," I said again.
He stood there, and it scared me. I did not know what he was going to do. My only hope was to somehow pray to whatever goddess would listen to me. A painful silence filled the air as the fight around us seem to be running in slow motion.
"We have been friends for so long, Alfred. I'm sure you don't want to kill me," I tried. I didn't want to hurt him, and I didn't want to kill him.
He just stood there, not saying a word. If worse comes to worse, I'm going to have to attack but I really did not want to. I didn't know what to do but his eyes kept flickering. Bodies dropped around us as the war kept going and only then did Alfred move but it wasn't at me. For a split second I would have been wolf meat if Alfred didn't run and attack the tall wolf. It was a relief to see him on our side again. Alfred bit into the wolf's side, blood dripping and the wolf going limp.
Hours had passed and we were already winning. Everyone was going strong, and Victoria's minions were going down like flies. She had disappeared at one point, but I knew she was going to show herself again at one point. I finished off the werewolf with one fatal hit to the skull.
"Mark," Victoria's voice said from behind me.
I spun around and saw her with a big smile on her face. "Victoria."
It was a silent staring game, none of us making the first lethal move. I already knew she was probably going to aim for my gut first as she usually did. There was no way I was going to make the first move. My father had taught me when I was younger, those who made the first move often died first.
Victoria stalked towards me painfully slow. The closer she got, the more ready I become to take her down. I could have attacked her at this point, but I wanted to wait for her to get closer. As she took another step forward, she was tackled by someone with long, black, wavy hair. I took a few steps back and watched. That was not Vienna. Victoria struggled underneath the person, unable to throw them off. Whoever it was, they were on our side.
A small while later, Victoria went limp underneath the person, blood trailed from her neck and chest, her eyes closed. She was dead. The person stood up and faced me. I had to focus but I recognised her, her paw shaped iris, her height, her hair.
"Isabella?" I said finally.
The end... For now!
Head on over to the next chapter to see a special message from me!
