33. Evil plans.
Victoria's views:
As I scan my surroundings, each tree looks familiar, the darkness filling my adrenalin as I find the tree. The one whose branch holds my secret lair. The little empire that has been mine for over eight hundred years. Upon reaching the Black Cypress Pine, I run my hand along the leaves, searching for a connection, a buzz, a life from the roofs to tell me I have found the one keeping my heaven.
As I search the third one in a row, I feel a tingling sensation, a slight heart beating inside the tree. I smile and take ahold of one of the middle branches, pulling it down and watching the greenery in front of me.
A golden straight line forms then immediately turns into a large circle in front of me, white filling the circle, inviting me to walk into it. As I enter it and walk into the other side, I am greeted by a metallic hallway with a revolving door of the same material, the portal closing behind me. Once I arrive at the entry, I place my hand over the touchpad on the wall to scan my fingerprints. Once its scan was complete, the doors open and I walk inside, I observe the large metallic space. The large desk set straight in the middle of the circular space with an office chair behind it. A large rectangular window circulates around most of the wall with round LED lights lit on the ceiling.
I make my way over to the window and watch my precious babies, my beautiful werewolves playing and practising outside on the large wolf lawn, and I smile.
"Welcome home, my lady," the familiar country voice of Edgar sounds.
"Edgar, darling! How lovely to see you! It's been a couple of months. How was your holiday to Canada? I hope you had a marvellous time." I turn and face the man who stood a few feet away from the desk.
I look at the tall hunk of a man, his blond hair almost at shoulder length, his blue eyes shine like diamonds, his grey shirt tightly hugging his body to reveal his muscular form. His smile brightening the darkest pits of my plans. "Canada was amazing. I took a drive on The Cabot Trail, it was exquisite. I also went to the Great Bear Rainforest. I caught a glimpse of the rare cream-coloured Kermode bear or as they call it Spirit bear, but of course it is great to be home. It was amazing to get away and escape from life here. How were things while I was gone?"
"Well, you know how it is, always busy. I missed my favourite troublemaker in crime. The wolves have been doing okay, training a lot, and we are slowly taking over." I smile and walk up to him, my heels clicking against the marble floor.
"You never fail to disappoint with your marvellous outfits. Troublemakers die together." He winks at me and smiles once again, his cheeks flushing a soft hue of pink.
"The name Edgar has never suited you, I have always imagined you as a Hayden or Matt, but nevermind that. I am eager to run through my plans with you." I grab his arm and shake him gently.
Edgar jumps up on the desk, sitting on it while swinging his legs back and forth. "Tell me all the juicy details."
"Well, do you remember Mark?" A smile plays on my lips.
"Of course, how can I forget? He was a tough kid during our war. He killed off over one hundred of our wolves." Edgar eyes me up and down.
"Well, he doesn't suspect a thing. I saw him the other night, and he seems to think I have changed. That's amazing. He won't suspect my attacks on him and his kind, the good. My daughter shall take over this kingdom once the time comes." I turn back around and look at the wolves continuing their play outside and smile. My babies have grown.
"Make sure we win. We deserve it this time. Your daughter will be an amazing queen. If you will excuse me, I will be where I usually am, doing surveillance modules. Call me if you need me." Edgar winks and walks off through a metallic door opposite of where I entered from.
As I walk around my desk and sit down on my chair, I notice a dozen letters addressed to me in a pile. I pick up the first letter and open it, skimming through it, then put it through the shredder as well as the other dozen letters. Advertisements, the last thing I want to read about!
The framed photo of my daughter, husband, and myself burned into me as it sat on my desk. I shake my head and throw it into the draw to my right. I rest my elbows on the desk and my hands to my face as I stare at the wall with a sigh.
"Victoria! Your Highness!" Edgar's voice breaks the silence as he bursts in with a loud crash.
I swing around in my chair to face him. "Just Victoria, Edgar! No formalities. We grew up together you should know this by now!"
He straightens his clothes up as he stands straight. "Right, sorry. As I was saying, we have a new wolf here who is adamant he wants to see you. He looks like one of your wolves but he seems young."
"Allow him in." I nod and walk down from my desk, my skirt flying behind me.
He nods and disappears. After a short while, he comes back with a familiar blue-furred wolf who had black stripes along his fur and a red moon marking on his paw.
"Hello, young pup." I walk over to them both and watch the wolf. "I think I know who you are, sweet child of mine. You are Alfred, aren't you?"
The wolf looks down, bowing his head and then nodding.
"Look at me, young pup. I won't hurt you if that is what you are scared about." I kneel in front of the wolf and run my hand through the fur on his head.
He raises his head and eyes me, growling lowly. "What do you want me to do, mistress?"
"So eager to work for me, but you must learn the ropes, my child. You are my newest recruit and I shall have my finest wolves teach you." I smile down at the wolf.
The wolf dips his head, avoiding my gaze once again, so I stand up and walk over to the window, watching the wolves play outside.
"Xander! come inside!" I yell into the microphone while pressing the red button under the window.
A smile dances on my lips as I watch the pack stop playing and the larger one of them all walking towards the wooden doors. I make my way over to my original position in front of Edgar and the young wolf, ready to give my next orders.
"Hello Xander," I greet as the wolf comes to a stop in front of me.
"Hi, Mistress." He bows, his dark red fringe falling almost into his eyes. "Hello, Edgar sir. Lovely to have you back." He nods then turns to the small wolf, a growl escaping him. "You!"
"Xander. No scaring our newest recruit." I eye the wolf, raising an eyebrow.
The huge dark red wolf with black spots on his fur launches himself at the tiny wolf before any other word was spoken.
"Xander! You are to get away from that wolf at once. If you kill him, I will make you wish you were never born. I brought you here and can easily take your life away from you so choose your next move wisely," I yell, running after him as I grab his collar and throw him backwards before he takes a big bite out of Alfred.
Xander crashes loudly against the floor meters away as the little wolf is curled up into a ball, so I pick him up and cradle him in my arms. "There, there, little wolf. I won't let anyone hurt you."
He lets out a small whimper and stays in his protective little ball.
"Bitch!" Xanders yell echoes through the room as he runs towards us, his paws scratching loudly against the marble floor.
I smile and put Alfred down as I then face Xander and I swipe my hand to the right and send the angry wolf flying across the room. "Call me that again and I shall end your life the same way you came into it. Behave or it will be hell for you. I always thought a leader like yourself acts differently, but I was wrong." I turn to the timid, shaking wolf who is still in his little ball and sit down cross-legged next to him, stroking his back. "I'm sorry about Xander. He is usually a very nice wolf, but I don't know what has gotten into him today. Why don't you come with me and meet the rest of the wolves? They won't harm you, I'm sure."
"She's right. Don't be scared, little one," Edgar says in a slight whisper.
Alfred pops his head out of his position and nods as he stands up, his legs shake. "T-There are other werewolves?"
I nod and smile as I walk over towards a hallway, looking behind me every often to make sure Alfred was following. As I push open the wooden doors, all the werewolves stop and look. Each wolf different colours and sizes, with the only similarities being the black in their furs and the red moon marking on their paw.
"Come, my darlings," I greet while walking to the middle of the field with Alfred trudging behind me. "I want you all to meet the newest edition of our family. This is Alfred."
I look around and see the large werewolves walk closer and circle around Alfred, eyeing him as if we were their prey.
"Be nice, my children. I don't want Alfred intimidated. You will all introduce yourselves and make him feel welcome." I smile and watch them.
One of the larger wolves approaches Alfred, his head hung low as he watches him. "Welcome, youngling. My name is Winter, I am the Beta of the pack and second in command. You have met Xander, he is the leader, or as the ranking system is concerned, our Alpha. I understand your original world had no rankings, but here is different. We are a mix of fighter, healer and guardian werewolves. What is your rank? What is your special skill?"
"I-I don't kn-know my r-rank. I-I don't know," the young wolf stutters, looking down at the grass.
"Then I shall call you an Omega until we find out," Winter says confidently, a smile on his lips.
Good. Seems Alfred will get along just find. Now to get along with my plan. Eventually they will all become mine. Josh is next.
Satisfied with the arrangement I make my way back inside but as soon as I do, an angry Xander comes charging at me. His eyes blazing red as his paws produce smoke from the floors.
Bring it on, my child. Mumma will teach you a lesson.
