The First Battle

Taylor's POV

It was a shock to everyone. History says that no one's used necromancy for multiple centuries! Then, they pulled out swords and shields... and walked towards me! And I did what any rational person would've done. I ran away. This must've been linked to the fireworks somehow.

There were soldiers who rushed towards them, weapons in hand. The two armies clashed, right in town and I had no idea what to do! Cast magic? Only question is how to! "Follow me, I instructed to my family as I ran towards the park because I knew a good hiding spot in a big tree and it was big enough for 4 or 5 people. The weird thing about the tree was the fact that it was still alive yet it was hollow inside. Bt the entrance was from the top of the tree so you'd have to climb up there to even see the hiding spot.

We reached it and went in but there was a few things that were in there. There were weapons, though they didn't look like normal weapons. They looked special. Well, we can't keep them inside here with us so we tossed them out. I peeked from the top of the tree, only to see a few people grab them before running off, back into the fight but there was one left. A staff. I saw someone try to pick it up but they instantly dropped it as they looked at their hands and it looked like it was burnt. Like touching that staff was the same as touching fire. Well, maybe it's a trap and not a staff after all.

We then hid inside and did not make a sound. We heard battles, metal clashing on metal. This day just went from weird to war in an instant. After some time, the sound of battle started fading away before completely stoping and then the cheers of a victory. We climbed out of the tree and looked around, bones everywhere. It was pretty obvious that the skeletons were all defeated. We cheered too because who wouldn't cheer after surviving a near death experience? A shadow suddenly covered town, blocking the rays of moon light. Maybe, we cheered too early.

The cause of it was a giant skeleton who could smash the town if it decided to lie down and make a snow angel. It was right out of town and everybody was scared. People were tired from the earlier battle and this was an even bigger threat. But it didn't care about anybody, it was heading towards me! Or maybe it's the park? I don't know! People shot arrows but they bounced off without doing any damage to the giant creature.

Then there was a guy who ran up to the foot, holding one of the weapons that was in the tree before and hit it. The result, it almost fell over, which surprised everyone. Then there was a girl with the bow from the tree. I didn't see any arrows that came with it so she would have to find her own. But she just pulled back the string, as if she was ready to fire, even though there was no arrow. And then one just made itself onto er bow. It didn't really look like an arrow but it was pretty obvious that it was one. It was light blue and when she release the string, it hit the skeleton's head and it almost fell backwards.

Those two kept doing their stuff and an idea just appeared in my mind. I reached for the staff but my older sister grabbed my wrist before I could touch it. " What are you doing?!" She asked worried.

" Those two need my help. It's pretty obvious that the fireworks meant something and I think it's this. Plus, it said I'm the mage I need to do something about it!" I said as I continued reaching for it but my sister's grip was strong and tight.

" They seem fine!" She said and we both looked towards the battle where the skeleton just kicked the guy with the sword away. " It's just... the guy's hand from earlier.

" But this is way too closely connected to be called a coincidence." I argued.

She looked at me for some time before sighing. " You know what? Just be careful." She said as she let go and I grabbed it. It was surprisingly light, even though it felt like it was made out of a strong metal.

I then realized something embarrassing. " Anyone know how to cast magic?" I asked and my whole family sighed.

" There's always the fire spell that I've heard of. You think of the word in your mind and point the staff at the skeleton." My mother suggested.

" Um, I'll try?" I said, unsure as I thought of the word fire in my head and pointed it at the skeleton. Fire shot out of the staff and everybody nearby was surprised. I was surprised too, and I was the one who casted the spell! But that glory only lasted a few seconds as it faded before it could reach the giant skeleton. Well, I'm not going to give up yet! I got closer and continuously thought of the word fire with my staff pointed as fire came out of my staff and started hitting the skeleton. And now it looked like I was holding one of those magic machines. What was it called? A flamethrower? Well the other 2 kept him busy as the bones became brittle under the fire. The sword guy kept smashing the brittle parts and the skeleton was eventually defeated and I was exhausted. Note to self, magic makes you tired.

" Hey, thanks for the help, we couldn't have won without you. I knew you felt similar, it's because we were both chosen." A male voice said as I looked at him to see that dirty-blond hair guy from earlier.

" Chosen by who?" I asked curiously. I had way more questions but I was going to ask them later.

" Don't know. It's what the wizard guy said." He answered.

" Well-" I said before falling over and losing consciousness.
