-Chapter One-

Five years later...

"Come on Chara!" Frisk whined,"I have a meeting at the Embassy today."

Chara groaned and wiggled closer."I thought you were done with that crap"

"Yeah, I thought so too, but,"she lowered her voice,"apparently there was a robbery on the outskirts of the city and several monsters were in the area and were blamed."

     "Which ones?"

"Oh, I'm not too sure, but I think it was Jerry, a Loox and, um, I think his name was Flames Heatsman or something like that."

Chara shook her head and rolled out of bed. They had separate beds, but had taken to sleeping together in Frisk's bed ever since they had admitted their feelings a year and a half prior.

Chara looked through their shared closet and threw a green and yellow sweater and some jeans at Frisk then pulled out a blue and purple sweater and shorts for herself. Frisk glanced at her questioningly.

"We could confuse people, ya know? I'm going with you. Maybe, uh, we could, maybe go somewhere for lunch?"

Frisk blushed, smiling. Chara was strangely shy when it came to her feelings, and they had yet to tell their family that they were together.  Alphys suspected something between the two, but never mentioned anything.

Chara pulled on the sweater and walked downstairs. Toriel was setting out plates of butterscotch-cinnamon pancakes. She looked up distractedly.

"Morning Chara. Blue suits you well."

     "How'd you-"

"I'm your mother, Chara. I can tell the two of you apart no matter what you wear. Anyway, what are you doing up so early?"

"Oh, Frisk-" she had to bite her lip to keep from saying how Frisk had been waking Chara in the bed,"Frisk and I decided that after her meeting we would go for lunch and maybe shopping."

"Well, sounds like y'all have a big day planned. Better eat up!"

Chara had just dug into her pancakes when Frisk walked down. She had braided her long hair to where it fell over her shoulder. She had applied faint blush and a small amount of mascara. Chara blushed furiously, pretending to wipe her face with her napkin to hide it. She never had cared much about how she looked, normally leaving her short hair down and sometimes brushing it. It was very rare for her to wear makeup, aside from the occasional swath of lip gloss.

Frisk sat down next to Chara and poked her side, making her nearly choke on the bite of pancake. Chara was very ticklish, and Frisk knew that.

After finishing their breakfast they bid their mother and Papyrus, who had bolted out the basement and was now wolfing down cold spaghetti, good bye.

The crisp November air bit their noses. Frisk rubbed her ear, and after glancing around, Chara kissed it, blushing once more. Frisk giggled and started skipping.

                                                   ---

The meeting was long and boring. Chara sat in the back on her phone. She only caught a few words from the mayor's dull voice and nothing from Frisk or Asgore until some lady began talking.

"I don't think we can trust these monsters. They're probably planning to overthrow us and take over the city. We should depo-"

"How dare you!" Frisk hissed, standing up."These monsters have done nothing to you. Look at her!" She pointed at Chara, whose eyes widened in shock,"Chara was dead. Nothing but a soul following me around, teaching me. The Royal Scientist created a body to hold her soul until we could restore her original body! Think of the scientific advances the monsters could show you, if you'd just give them a chance."

Chattering broke out between everyone and the mayor struggled to get everyone's attention. Asgore's deep, soothing voice filled the room.

"Now now, let's not get too carried away. Frisk does have a point. We mean not to cause harm or trouble to any human and if any monster does, they will be dealt with fairly and as equal as any human. I belie-"

Chara didn't get to hear the rest because Frisk had grabbed her arm and pulled her outside. Her face was red and her eyes were shining with tears. She sat down against the brick wall, Chara following. After a few moments of tense silence, Chara spoke.

"Won't they miss you in there?"

"No. It's not like they ever listen to me anyway. They see me as an annoying kid." Tears began to fall,"I c-can't do this anymore Chara. I'm s-sorry for bringing y-you up like that. I just got so m-mad."

"It's okay. Now stop crying, your face is too beautiful for that. Do you still want to go to lunch?"

Frisk shook her head, shivering slightly. They got up and began walking home.

It was twelve fourty-seven when they got home. Toriel looked up from her book, Seventy-two More Uses For Snails.

"My children, why are you home so early? I thought the meeting didn't end until one then you were going for lunch."

"Frisk didn't feel well, so we left early and put a raincheck on the lunch thing."

"Are you okay Frisk? Do you need medicine?"

"No, it's just a headache. I'll be in my room."

Chara followed her upstairs and was greeted by a little buttercup in a pot on the window. Frisk was murmuring to him, sort of petting his petals. Suddenly he jerked back, growling.

"I don't need your help! Just shut up! Leave me alone!"

Frisk sat on the bed and Chara walked up to him.

"Hey Az." She said softly, so Frisk couldn't hear,"How are you?"

He didn't reply. Chara sighed, Frisk and her had been doing experiments because for the first time last week, Flowey had responded to being called Asriel. Chara hadn't meant to call him that, it just slipped out. He had sat up and said 'huh!' He hadn't done it since.

They had told Alphys about it, and she said that by being around his family all the time may be awakening something buried deep, deep within him.

Chara laid next to Frisk on the bed. As she stared at the wall, she could've sworn that she heard a very faint I'm here from the window.
