Chapter 10

Michael's POV:

Today was the day that the case would end. I was at Mateo's house, sitting on the couch next to Leticia. I had my arm around her, while the three of us watched basketball on the TV. I wanted to keep her close to me since it was only a matter of time before the cops would get here and start arresting people.

Everything was calm and quiet before the front door was swung open. Cops came running into the house from all directions with huge guns in their hands. Police were yelling and the house became loud. Mateo shot up from his seat and tried to escape, but a cop caught him and threw him to the ground, as they handcuffed him. When Mateo was arrested and taken out of the house, a cop gently took Leticia away from me and out of the house. Then, they put me in handcuffs and took me outside with Leticia. The cops put Leticia into a cop car and drove her off to the police station. Once Mateo and Leticia were driven off to the police station, my boss walked over to me and took the handcuffs off my wrists.

"Gosh, those boys put them on tight." I said, referring to how the SWAT team put on handcuffs. "Thanks for getting me out of those."

"No problem, Michael." replied my boss. "Thanks for going undercover, so we could finally put this butt head away."

I laughed and replied with, "Nice vocabulary you go there, boss."

"What? My grand kids don't like 'potty talk.' Now Michael, let's get you down to the police station." my boss said.

At the police department, Mateo was being sent through the processing system. Getting his finger prints stamped and put on paper, along with getting a mugshot. While that was going on, I stood in front of an interrogation room window, watching Leticia sitting down, in the front of the table. She was fiddling with her fingers and looking around the small, squared interrogation room.

My boss walked over to my side, and said, "It's now or never, Michael."

I looked at my boss. I knew he was right, so I walked over to the door and paused. How was I going to tell her everything? I don't even know what to say now. But, I turned the door knob and walked into the room.

Leticia shot up from her chair and ran over to me. I embraced her in a hug and kissed her forehead.

"Michael, what is going on? Where is Mateo?" Leticia asked.

"Leticia, calm down." I instructed. "Now please sit down."

Leticia calmed down and took a seat at the interrogation table. And I took a seat across from her.

"There are some things I need to tell you, Leticia." I said.

"What is it?"

"Leticia, I'm not who you think I am."

"What do you mean."

"Before I go any further, I want you to know that I love you. It is all real." I began. "Leticia, my real name is Michael Rodriguez. I am an undercover cop for the Miami police department."

Leticia's eyes widened. She took deep breaths, as tears began to fall down her cheeks.

"I trusted you." Leticia screamed. "You betrayed my brother, and you have betrayed me."

"I am so sorry."

"Get out!" she yelled. "Get out!"

I stood up and walked out of the room, closing the door behind me. I returned to the window, where I saw Leticia sitting on the ground, in a corner of the room, crying her eyes out.

"Don't worry, Michael. Just give her some time." my boss advised.
