Interrogation
Jack's POV
I sat on the bench in the sterile bedroom, head in my hands. It was painfully empty, forcing me to do nothing but think. And my thoughts weren't pleasant ones.
If Pitch had captured the Guardians, there was no way he'd let them live unless I intervened. And I couldn't do that while I was held hostage by the Frozen Four.
The door open, admitting Snow E. She was dressed in jeans and a t-shirt. Her hair was done up in a casual braid and she didn't seem to be on edge at all. I watched her as she closed the door behind her.
"Jack, right?" she said. I nodded.
"The name's E," she said, holding out a hand. I watched her, making no move to take it. Now that I was alone in a room with her (aside from the security camera in the corner) I finally realized how beautiful she was, and how much she reminded me of someone I knew once. But I couldn't remember who. She had platinum blond hair in a casual braid and captivating blue eyes.
"I take it that E isn't your actual name?" I said. She smiled.
"I knew you were smart. I think I'll stick with E for now, but maybe sometime in the future I'll tell you my real name," she said.
"Why did you save me, that day in Pitch's office?" I asked. "Seems like your friends don't exactly trust me."
"What can I say," E said, shrugging as she did so, "I'm a sucker for being a hero. And it worked out, didn't it? You saved my life after I saved yours."
"Did . . . did one of the bullets hit you?" I asked hesitantly. E pulled up her sleeve, showing a bandage that covered half her arm.
"I have another one in my side, but I'll live," she said. "Besides, it worked out in the end. We're one step closer to stopping Pitch."
"What exactly were you doing?" I asked.
"I could ask you the same question," E told me. "I'll share if you share."
"Promise?"
"Sure."
"I was captured by a couple Nightmares while trying to deliver supplies to a family who Pitch had attacked," I explained. "Pitch was trying to get me to do something for him."
"Betray the Guardians?" E asked.
"No," I told her.
"Betray or kill us?" she asked.
"No," I said, frowning. If she kept guessing, it was only a matter if time until she found out the truth. I folded my arms, deciding that was where I was going to draw the line. She wouldn't get any more out of me. E glanced at her phone.
"You're telling the truth," she said.
"And how would you know?" I asked.
"The camera is rigged to act as a lie detector," she explained, stowing her phone. "So you don't wish any harm on us or the Guardians."
"I feel so violated," I said dryly.
"Get used to the feeling," she told me. "The name's Elsa. Good to have you on our side."
"Your name sounds really familiar," I said. She shrugged.
"No idea why. I've never met you before in my life. Anyway, the rest of the crew doesn't trust you yet, but it doesn't hurt to tell you their names too. Snow A is my younger sister Anna, Snow K is Kristoff, and Snow H is Hans."
"They're going to be really mad at you now, especially Hans," I told her. She shrugged.
"I'm the one who saved your life back in the city," she pointed out. "That means I get to decide your fate. Besides, I can just show them the footage of you telling the truth."
"Good luck with that," I told her. Elsa rolled her eyes.
"Honestly, it won't really be a problem. Anna will believe me, and Kristoff and Hans will go along with whatever she wants."
Elsa's phone started ringing. She glanced at it and pressed a button. Hans' voice began speaking.
"Snow E? We've got a problem," he said.
"If you're talking about Jack, he's not a problem anymore," Elsa told him.
"He's still a problem, and it just got a whole lot bigger," Hans growled. "Pitch sent a message. He says he'll make a trade: Jack for the Guardians. Otherwise he's going to blow us all up."
"Why does he want you so bad?" Elsa wondered, glancing at me. I looked away.
"What?" Hans sputtered. "Snow E, are you in the interrogation chamber? Get out of there! Stay away from Jack, I'm sure he has mind-bending tricks just like his father!"
"He's on our side," Elsa told him.
"He'll never be on your side!" Hans shouted. "You know who's on your side? Kristoff, Anna, and me! And I want what's best for you, so get back here and stay away from Jack!"
"Jeez, calm your jets," Elsa sighed. "I'm coming, alright?"
"And Jack, if you're listening, I swear you'll end up where you belong!"
"We get it!" Elsa yelled into the phone, hanging up.
"He'll go along with it, huh?" I asked.
"He's just worried about the Guardians or something," Elsa said, putting her phone back in her pocket. "I'm going to deal with this. Stay put for now, and don't do anything stupid."
Elsa left, closing the door behind her, and I was left in solitary confinement once again.
