Chapter 9-Part 1

"Am I though?" He questioned, snatching the documents from me and placing it in the folder.

I ignored his comment. I wrapped the towel around my waist over the bathrobe because it felt uncomfortable being in this condition with him around.

"You're the one who just left without telling anyone anything! How could I have submitted these without your presence?!" He questioned back angrily.

"You ... humiliated me...and kicked me out of the house... What the hell was I supposed to do?" I said trying not to remember that horrid incident.

I saw his expressions soften up a bit and then it hardened again.

"And besides, I'm surprised that you didn't consult this with a lawyer." I snapped at him as I dragged my fingers through my damp, long hair. "Because you could have easily divorced me without me being there with you. You could have said that hey, I don't know where this woman is in this world so hence, I need a divorce."

"You shouldn't have left in the first place," Karan retorted.

"Unbelievable," I said in disbelief as I shook my head.

"It is unbelievable. Out of all the places, you were in Canada." He admitted.

I was baffled when he said that. Does this mean he knew where I was? Did Mansi ma tell him everything about me? Wait, she can't do that. She swore on my life that she'll never tell anyone about my whereabouts. Did he force it out of my brother? I don't think so because he would have told me. I really need to stop doubting everyone but I just can't help it. With what I've gone through, it's really hard to trust anyone.

I let out a sigh. "How do you know that?" I asked as I sat down on the bed. I really can't do this anymore.

"Well Mrs. Jaitly, when you were booking the suites, I was utilizing the computer downstairs when it received your booking information for two." He revealed.

Fuck my life, I said to myself while fidgeting with my hands.

"So in order to see if it's actually you, I emailed you a survey which asked for your date of birth, your favorite quote, and all of the useless things you like." He spoke.

"And when your answers seemed to match up, that's when I lured you to this hotel by giving one room for free." He added on as he smirked at me.

This is so ridiculous. I shook my head in disbelief. I really cannot believe this. "So you took all that trouble just to ensure that I come here?" I asked.

"It wasn't any trouble at all. So what I gave you an extra room for free? I'm not losing money." He answered.

"Of course," I whispered.

"Alright. Enough with all this interrogation. Get dressed and we'll leave for court now." He articulated.

"What?" I questioned.

"We're going to court right now to settle this divorce case," Karan said not reflecting any form of emotion. "I had the court date fixed upon your arrival" He added on.

I really can't believe this. All of this was too much to process. It hasn't been a day here since I've arrived and I'm already dealing with so much bullshit.

"Oh, by the way, you should open the gift basket. There's an invitation for you." Karan stated as he gave me the gift basket.

I didn't say a word to him. I honestly didn't care about the gift basket or whatever invitation he was talking about. But I still untied the knot, removed the wrap, and laid out the contents on the bed. Wow, so the basket had dry fruits, a gold chain, sweets, and a golden, blue box. Honestly, this seems as if it's a wedding invitation.

I hesitantly opened the box as I felt Karan's strong gaze on me. There are multiple cards inside the box. I took out the first card as I removed the golden envelope from it. On top of the card, it read Roka (Punjabi Pre-engagement) Ceremony, which was gracefully written in gold, glittery ink whereas the background of the card is royal blue. As my eyes shifted a bit downwards, my heart sank as I read those names. Karan's name was next to Snehal's which means that they're both going to get married to each other. Did he really not love me? I felt my eyes water up a bit but I somehow managed to prevent any tears from coming.

I pulled myself together. "Congratulations," I spoke as I put away everything back into the gift basket. I tried not to show any sort of emotion.

"Thank you, Mrs. Jaitly," He said with a hint of sarcasm in his voice.

I raised my eyebrows at that comment. "You're marrying my cousin and yet you're calling me Mrs. Jaitly?" I asked in confusion.

"Well, you are still my wife, aren't you?" Karan clarified as he sat next to me. "Get ready now. We're supposed to reach the court at five and I want to get there on time."

It's hard to believe that I fell in love with him. His voice doesn't even show any sort of remorse as to what he did to me. Maybe that's why I came back to New York. God probably wanted me to complete the unfinished business I have with Karan.

"Okay," I said. "Can you at least get out of my room?" I asked revealing how annoyed I am with his presence.

"Why?" He questioned acting all innocent. "I'm your husband. I have the right to be here."

"Dude! Can you stop this nonsense?! I need to put on my clothes. Leave now!" I commanded, unleashing my anger that was built up.

"Damn! Why are you acting like as if I haven't seen every part of you?" He pointed out while having a stupid grin planted on his face. "I don't have a problem with you putting on your clothes in front of me."

"Is that what my amazing cousin did to you before we got married?" I addressed as I got up from the bed and went towards my luggage.

I bent down while holding on to the towel that was still clinging to my waist. I looked up at his direction while unzipping my luggage. I could sense that he was boiling with anger. He didn't say a word. "Wow, you didn't say anything back. I'm assuming that's a yes." I commented as I scoured through my luggage trying to find decent clothes to wear to court. I didn't really bring anything professional though. All I had were casual clothing, fancy dresses, and Indian clothing.

"Don't push it, Bella." Karan finally spoke.

I felt my heart ache at his comment. I shook my head in disbelief that he said that.

"Bella," I whispered laughing a bit while picking up a black spaghetti tank top, dark blue skinny jeans, a black long sleeve cardigan that ends up to my waist, and my Victoria's Secret undergarments.

I zipped up my luggage and got up with my clothes. As I made my way towards the bathroom, I grabbed my Michael Kors bag as well. The main reason why I grabbed my bag is due to the fact that it had my phone inside along with my makeup kit.

I stepped into the bathroom and locked the door. I knew that he wasn't going to leave and I wasn't going to ask him again. He honestly isn't the man I fell in love with.

I took off my bathrobe and the towel and hung it against the wall. I quickly dressed up and stared at myself in the mirror. I'm going to make him regret leaving me.

I took out my makeup kit and did a light makeup routine. I applied concealer to hide the dark circles underneath my eyes. After that, I applied foundation, a light pink eyeshadow, waterproof mascara, and a brown matte lipstick from Kylie Cosmetics. I really love using products from Kylie Cosmetics since the makeup quality is amazing. I also contoured the hollow parts of my cheeks which caused my cheekbones to stand out.

Last but not the least, I took out my hazel contact lenses from the kit along with the liquid solution. I struggled a bit while inserting the contacts due to my acrylics but finally managed to put them in. I combed my hair untangling the little tangles I had. I decided to leave it open since it looked nice. I used to keep my hair 1-2 inches below my shoulder when I was with Karan. But then after the supposed divorce, I decided to grow out my hair up to my waist and have layers, thanks to Kat.

I took out my phone from my bag and sent a quick text message to my childhood best friend explaining her my current situation and asking for help. I put my phone in my back pocket.

I gathered my things and placed it back in the kit. I opened the vanity and left my kit there. I grabbed my bag and let out a sigh as I unlocked the bathroom door.

I walked towards the dresser and placed my bag there. I looked around and I didn't see him anywhere. Where'd he go? I went to my luggage and took out my black Tom's and put them on.

I guess I'll wait here until he comes back? My phone vibrated and I quickly took it out. Sure thing, she texted back and I slid my phone into my back pocket.

Just then Karan opened the front door and walked in. "Ready?" He questioned taking a quick glance at me and then looked again widening his eyes in surprise. I rolled my eyes at him and nodded reluctantly. "Come," he said.

He held the door open as I walked out. I went towards the elevator and pressed the bottom button. It seems like history is repeating itself.

In an instant, the elevator doors opened and we stepped inside. I made my way to the left side of the elevator and leaned my left shoulder against the mirror-wall. He pressed the button that goes to the main lobby and stood the opposite side with his back against the wall facing me.

Can't believe that we're back to being strangers. Life is seriously unpredictable. I seriously can't believe that my cousin is marrying him. I always had felt that if I had told Karan about Avi and Adi, then maybe he'd come back to me. But I'm glad that I didn't, otherwise, he would have taken them away from me.
