Chapter 4
I played with the white beads on the dress I am wearing as I waited inside. Soon, the doors would open and I would walk outside to the Godswood. I continued to fidget with the beads and sparkles that covered my long white dress. I pulled the light blue cloak around me a little tighter. I wonder how this wedding would play out. Would it be one done in the name of the old Gods or the new Gods?
Today is the day. Today I am marrying Robb Stark. After today I will no longer be Arianne of Winterfell. I started to feel my stomach twist as I seen a Winterfell guard come to get me. Ned would be presenting me to Robb as I have no living family. In this short moment, I began to wonder where my family is. I know my mother is dead, but where is my father? Where is my grandparents? Do I have any siblings?
"Are you ready, Arianne?" Ned asked me.
I slowly nodded as I took his arm.
We began to walk outside and to the Godswood. I could see everyone. So many people are here. Many traveled from far to be here. I feel as though the whole North is here. My stomach began to turn again as we got closer. I could see Jon, standing at the end, next to Arya. Everyone's eyes were on me. I made eye contact with Jon. We held each others stares for a few moments before he looked down and I looked at Robb.
We reached the front a few moments later. Ned brought my hand to Robb's. He slowly took it and we stood in front of everyone. We faced each other.
"You may now cloak the bride and bring her under your protection." The Septon said.
Robb took off his black and silver cloak. He walked behind me, putting it on me, before returning to face me.
"My Lords, my Ladies, we stand here in the sight of all to witness the union of man and wife. One flesh, one heart, one soul, now and forever."
Robb and I stood side by side as I laid my hand on top of his. The Septon began to tie a ribbon around mine and Robb's hand.
"Let it be known that Robb of House Stark and Arianne of Winterfell are one heart, one flesh, one soul. Cursed be he who would seek to tear them asunder. In the sight of the Seven, I hereby seal these two souls, binding them as one for eternity." He finished with the ribbon and took it off.
"Look upon each other and say the words." Robb and I turned to stare at each other, face to face. We began to recite the words together.
"Father, Smith, Warrior, Mother, Maiden, Crone, Stranger. I am his and he is mine. From this day, until the end of my days."
My legs began to feel weak as Robb leaned it. His lips found mine. A few moments passed, but it felt like an eternity. I broke away, we took each other's hands and faced the crowd. We looked at everyone as they cheered for us. The only one not cheering is Jon. And he was already making his way out of the Godswood.
---
Robb and I lingered in the Godswood while guests began to make their way to the hall. The dark night, but candlelight was perfect. The evening fog slowly began to roll in and soft snowflakes began to fall.
"Winter is coming." Robb whispered.
I looked up, agreeing.
"Arianne, my parents told me about your powers. Winter is always with you. How is that?" Robb asked. I smiled at him, before looking away.
"It was hard at first. I thought I was going to hurt someone or something. But it is who I am. There is no denying that." I said.
Robb took my hand and began to lead me into the hall where our dinner feast would be held. The doors opened and Robb and I walked through together, hand in hand. I looked around the room, trying to find Jon. When I was about to give up, I seen him standing next to Theon, drinking.
Everyone was cheering and clapping for us. We walked up the table and took our seats. The feast began and music was loud and so were the peoples laughs and cheers as everyone ate and talked.
I watched Jon as he sat next to Theon. He drank and barely talked. A feeling of dread washed over me. How are we going to make this work? How are we supposed to live together if we can not be together?
People began to congratulate us and wish us well on our new journey together as husband and wife. Robb and I graciously thanked everyone. As everyone was distracted, dancing, laughing, and having fun I excused myself for a moment.
I walked into the hallway, leaving the hall for a moment. I just need air. I walked outside into the cool air, feeling it around me. It was like a safety blanket for me. I breathed in the dark night, letting everything that has happened to me leave my mind.
Not a moment later, I heard steps in the dark. A hand grabbed my arm and I spun around, ready to defend myself, but I looked up to see Jon.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to frighten you." He said, releasing my arm.
I was still a bit shaken up, trying to find the words to say to him.
"You look beautiful." Jon said.
"Thank you." I whispered.
"I know Robb will be good to you. He will take care of you. I just don't want you to forget about me." Jon said. His eyes began to water.
"Jon, I could never forget you." I said, resting my hand on his face. He placed his hand over mine as it continued to rest on his face. He lightly kissed the palm of my hand, before letting it rest on his face.
"I'll always love you, you know that right?" Jon asked.
"Of course. I will never loose my love for you." I said. I wanted to start crying. I wanted to tell Jon maybe we should just run away. Run away now and leave all this behind. But I know we wouldn't make it far.
Before either of us said anything, Jon kissed me. Sweet and simple. He quickly held me in his arms, before he let me go and walked back inside.
I quickly followed a few moments later. I sat next to Robb as the feast continued.
Before long, one of the lords of another house stood up. He took his sword off and raised it high.
"I believe it is time for the new Lord and Lady Stark of Winterfell to be bedded." He yelled. Everyone began to cheer. I saw men coming towards me. I quickly grabbed Robb's arm. This is another part I had been dreading. Ned and Robb both seen my face and quickly stood up. Robb pulled me behind him as men tried to pick me up to take me to Robb's room.
"I will be taking my wife to our room, myself." He said. The men were disappointed, but not for long as their empty cups were filled.
Robb held out his hand, I took it and we walked up to his room. Or our room, I guess I should be saying from now on.
As we entered, Robb closed the door behind us. I took off the cloak, laying it out on the chair. I stood next to the bed with my head down.
Robb quickly grabbed both of my hands, sitting down on the bed.
"Arianne, I am not going to touch you. Not until you're ready." He said.
I quickly hugged him.
"Thank you, Robb." I whispered. We could hear the feast continue downstairs, but we got into bed. We laid next to each other, both of us trying to find sleep.
