Chapter 5-4: P. Low Durability
Back on the racetrack, Epel's team are trying to make up for lost time.
"Rgh! We need to catch back up!" Sebek says, and suddenly hears a snap, "AUGH!" Sebek notices the problem and stops.
Epel notices it, stops and rushes to Sebek to ask, "Sebek, what's wrong?! You just stopped!"
"My plushie's come apart..." Sebek says.
"Say what?!" Epel asks, shocked.
Epel examines the plushie, "Oh no, you're right! One of its legs tore off!"
Idia sighs, "Yeah, squirrels have p. low durability. You can't keep 'em going at top speed for long, or else this happens."
"What?! I didn't know that!" Sebek says, shocked.
"...Oh, I didn't mention it?" Idia replies.
"You did not," Jade says.
And Sebek says, "My plushie will only able to slowly limp if it can move at all. How far to the pit stop where Marja's waiting?!"
"It's still a ways out..." Epel says, but then he has an idea, "Hold on, I'll sew the leg back on! I've got a sewing kit in my pouch!" Epel says and brings out his sewing kit, and then begins to fix the plushie, "First put the cotton back in, then sew up the tear..."
"You're rather good at this, Epel," Jade says.
"I'm self-taught, but I know how to mend a tear!" Epel says, "I used to get a lotta holes in my clothes, what with how much I ran around as a kid. It happened so much, I just started mending 'em myself. My stitches aren't the prettiest, but they're sturdy!"
"Is there anything I can do?!" Sebek asks.
"Hmm... Not really," Epel answers.
"Rgh... But merely standing around watching doesn't sit right with me," Sebek says, "Very well, I shall cheer you on! L-E-T-S-G-O, that's the way we spell let's go! Go Epel! Go, go, go Epel!" Then turns to Idia, "Join me, Idia!"
"Uh... Why?" Idia asks, confused.
"You are partially at fault for not warning Sebek about the squirrel's durability," Jade says, "In fact, I'll join you as a show of goodwill," Then Jade cheers, "L-E-T-S-G-O, that's the way we spell let's go! Go Epel! Go, go, go Epel!"
India cheers, reluctantly, "L-E-T-S-G-O... Yep... Go Epel..."
Then Epel asks, "Could you please stop? You're making this harder."
After sewing, Epel is able to fix Sebek's plushie, "Done! It's all fixed up, Sebek!" and presents it to Sebek.
Sebek is amazed, "Fantastic! My squirshie is as good as new! Thank you, Epel!
"Your what now?" Idia asks.
"I believe it's a portmanteau of squirrel and plushie," Jade says.
"...I guess you really like that plushie, huh?" Idia says.
"And to think you complained about the squirrel at first..." Epel replies.
Sebek takes that as an offense, "It's not what you think! I'm simply overjoyed that we don't have to quit the race!"
"All right, time to get back out there and catch up to the Woodland Speeders and Seven Swords!" Epel says.
With that, everyone climbs on the sleds, and uses their magic and plushie to race along the track. Epel continues to call out to the group to the direction they need to go as fast as they can, but making sure they go at a steady pace together.
Up ahead, Briar and the Woodland Speeders are still neck and neck with the Seven Swords.
"I wonder where Epel and the others are?" Sereia asks.
"I don't know," Tanzanite answers, "They can't be that far behind."
"I'm sure they'll catch up," Briar says.
Jasper looks back, "There they are."
Briar and the others look to see Epel and his team has finally caught up to.
"Hey guys, what happened?" Briar calls out.
"We ran into trouble, but we managed," Epel says.
"Well then let's keep racing," Jasper says.
Sebek says, "Let's do it!"
And with that, the racers continue racing and soon, The Apple Lanterns is able to gain ahead. The Woodland Speeders are able to gain some speeds. Soon enough, Epel's Team and Briar's team are able to reach the pitstop.
"We've reached the pit stop, guys!" Epel says.
"Great. Let's hop off our sleds and pay the others a visit," Jasper says.
"We got here around the same time as the Seven Swords, it seems," Sebek says.
Soon enough, the Seven Swords are able to catch up and reach the pitstop.
Shelpie yawns and says, "Hey, guys. How's the race going?"
"We're in third. The Apple Lanterns and the Woodland Speeders got ahead of us," Dominic says.
Grum scoffs, "Tch! Guess someone on that team knows what they're doin'."
"They're pretty good! We'll have to push harder in the second half," Dominic says.
"Here's your uh... What did you call it again?" Toby says and presents some food.
"A mid-race snack. Thanks, Toby!" Dominic says.
Back to the Apple Lantern and the Woodland Speeders.
"You kids managed to pull to the front of the pack again! Well done! Now just need to stay on your toes and keep the lead!" Majra says.
"Right. We had a bit of trouble on the course, actually. Sebek's plushie came apart," Epel says.
Marja is shocked, "What?!"
"Oh no! Are you and your plushie okay?" Sereia asks.
"Do not worry, Sereia. We're fine," Sebek says.
Then Epel says, "I patched it up and got it going again, but could you take a look at it?"
"Can do," Marja says, "Fork over the squirrel, Sebek!"
Sebek then presents the plushie, "Here you are. Is it all right?"
"Let's see here..." Majra says, and examines the plushie, "Ohoh, those are some strong stitches. You did pretty good for workin' in the dark, Epel."
"Yes, thank you again, Epel!" Sebek says.
"I'll reinforce the seams to be on the safe side. Gimme just a minute," Marja says.
"Thank you, Ms. Marja! I appreciate it!" Sebek says.
"Oh, you're addressing her respectfully now?" Jade questions.
"The only reason I've made it this far is because of the squirshie Ms. Marja made for me. She is a highly capable individual deserving of respect!" Sebke says.
"You are a man of extremes, Sebek," Jade says.
Marja smiles, "Heh... No need to be so formal, Sebek. Just call me Marja!"
"No need to be formal? Huh..." Idia replies.
"They're getting along fabulously now, aren't they?" Jade replies.
