The Pack

I could not believe that his pack house was so big! It is what he called the house he lived in, a pack house. A communal place for the pack to gather. Most of the wolves that lived in this house were unmated. Only the Alpha, Beta and Delta stayed in the pack house full time.

There were four floors. The ground floor held all the rooms that were used by everyone. The kitchen and dining room alone took up one half of the space. The other half held a room Bishop had called a den with big, comfy looking couches and a huge TV on the wall.  Under the TV was a piece of furniture that held movies. So many movies! I ran towards them to read the titles. There were so many! I didn't know that so many existed! "So you like movies?" My mate chuckled as I poured over the titles. I had only seen maybe ten of these movies and there were HUNDREDS!

"We we're allowed to watch movies sometimes. I've didn't know there were so many!" I couldn't help my excitement. I really did love movies. I felt a tiny pang of sadness. Maddie and Avery. It had been more than two days since I had left them. I stood and faced my mate and pushed the sadness down. I would save them. Suddenly two little boys ran into the room. Laughing and yelling as they jumped over couches. As they passed the Alpha he caught each one up by the neck of their shirts, yanking them both to a quick stop.

"What is it now little brothers of mine?" Bishop asked the boys sternly.
"He wouldn't stop..."
"He started it!"
"No I did not!" The boys argued back and forth. With a shake from their Alpha the boys went silent. They couldn't have been more than 12. They looked up at Bishop.
"We're sorry Bishop." They said in unison. I couldn't help the little giggle that slipped out. Three pairs of brown eyes quickly snapped in my direction. Two suspicious and one warm and soft. Eye contact with my mate was a little unnerving.
"Blake. Ben. This is Charlotte. My Mate."He never broke eye contact as he introduced me. " Charlotte. These are my little brothers." I looked at the two boys. Identical. Short dark hair. Wavy like Bishop's. The same dark brown eyes and tan skin. I smiled at them both and they returned it.
" Finally! He's been waiting forever!" The one on the left said excitedly.
"We were thinking you would never come!" The one on the right blurted out. Bishop rolled his eyes.
" Alright boys. No more running through the house like wild animals. Take it outside." They both bolted for the door when he released them. Stopping they turned around. "We're glad you're here!" They told me together before they raced off. Bishop shook his head at their antics, " they're 12 years old with this boundless energy."
"You don't have to apologize. They're still kids." I shrugged my shoulders.
"Would you like to go for a walk?" He asked me. My eyes lit up and happiness poured out.
"You mean I can leave the house?" I asked. I almost couldn't believe it. I thought maybe that he would want me to stay inside. That I wouldn't be able to leave. He seemed truly taken aback by my question. "You're not a prisoner Charlie. You're my mate and Luna of this pack." He held out his hand again and I placed my hand in his, my pale hand a stark contrast against his darker, larger one. I looked up at him still smiling. He lead me back through the kitchen and out a side door. We walked down 4 steps and I loved the sun on my face. The gloom from yesterday was gone and the light touched everything! I listened to Bishop as he explained that the 2nd floor of the house was the Delta's main residence. The 3rd was his Beta's and the top floor was our main residence. The basement held four quest suites for visitors. He told me that our pack consisted of over 1200 members. We were the largest pack in the North America. He was very proud and it made me proud in return. I just had one question. "What is a Luna?" I asked. Bishop pulled me to a stop and looked at me curiously.
"Where are you from that you don't know any of these things?" He asked me quietly. We were standing in the middle of the street. Curious eyes watching. It made me nervous. I did not know these people. I watched as the curious eyes turned to confusion. My emotions leaked out more. A little girl, maybe 3, broke away from her mother and ran to me wrapping her little arms around my legs. "Don't be scared." She whispered as she looked up at me and smiled. Just like that I was calmed. I smiled back at her. "Thank you." I leaned down to her level and returned the hug she offered. I did not realize how much I needed that. I watched her turn and race back to her mother. The woman grabbed her up as the little girl launched herself at her. We made eye contact and the mother smiled at me gently.

BISHOP
I felt the nerves flow out of her when the little girl wrapped her arms around her legs. The anxiety and nervousness that had been touching me and the people around us disappeared. I watched as my mate bent down and hugged the little girl. And the smile on her face when she rushed back to her mother. I didn't know what she was or how she was doing it but she touched us all. Our wolves feel for her like something I have never felt before. We all wish to protect her. Comfort her. Kane spoke. I was confused.
How can she do that? She's not even part of the pack officially.
She is different. She is blessed. With that last cryptic sentence Kane retreated into my mind. A small headache formed and I rubbed my eyes. I looked back at my mate. Her long hair shone in the sun and her light blue eyes glowed. The happiness I felt from her was comforting to me. I took her hand in mine and with no resistance from her, we headed back to the pack house. This time using the front door to enter. There were a few people in the common areas and I felt my mates anxiety spike again. All eyes snapped to us. They were uncomfortable with making her feel that way. And it hurt their wolves. Almost as one they all looked away again. I felt her emotions rein in and she seemed to straighten. I felt a bubble of pride in my chest. My mate was a strong one.
"There you are Alpha! I've been looking for you every where! Did you forget that we had a meeting this morning?" I braved myself for the storm that was my Beta's mate. Rosalyn. A petit frame that housed a powerhouse. The woman really was a force. Her fiery red hair was so dense and curly it looked like a living thing on her head. Her face free of freckles and her dark brown eyes suited her. "I did forget Roz and I'm sorry about that. But I was showing my mate around."
"This is her?! Or course it is! I'm Rosalyn. Beta Thomas' mate." Before I could stop her she was pulling Charlie into a hug. She was stiff for only a moment before she hugged her back. I relaxed when she did. "It's so nice to meet you! I'm so glad that he found you! Why hasn't Thomas told me about this yet?" That last part coming out annoyed. I chuckled. "Roz I asked him not to say anything. I wanted her to settle a little before we made the official announcement and held the induction ceremony." I didn't want to spring too much on her too fast. She seemed so innocent and hard at the same time. Suddenly a sharp pain stabbed me right in the heart. I gasped and grunted in pain. But the anguished scream that came from my mate exploded through the house. It reached out and touched us all. We felt the life of her pack mate as it was ripped away.
