Chapter Four

A/N: The chapter title is not a mistake. =)

"Toriel, please!" Flowey's cry reached my ears. I was sprawled out on the floor of the basement, now starting to feel the pain in my chest. Now, I tried to pull myself up from the ground, coughing as I did so. The dryness in my mouth wasn't helping. Glancing down at my chest burns, I found that they had healed to an extent. It wasn't a full recovery, but it was enough to move. A second chance, huh? Thanks, Chara.

I made myself stand, now facing Toriel, who had Flowey in her grasp. In her other hand was a readied fireball but even with her steadied stance, she was bewildered by my presence. She had a sense of fear within her as I started to take a step towards her.

"Put him down." I said sternly, now gaining a feel of my own magic. I was trying to intimidate her into letting myself and Flowey go. I didn't know how strong I was against Toriel, after all she is the former queen of the Underground, but it was worth a shot. After all, be dominant and they will respect you.

"You're supposed to be dead." Toriel murmured, but she held onto Flowey a little tighter.

"Do I look dead?" I asked, feeling a flame burst into my palm. It let off a soft green light, and acted much like Toriel's fire. She started her offense, but I was ready. With a green shield, I was able to block off her attacks and continue my way towards her. Act confident, Kara. Act like you know what you're doing.

Seeing an opening, I then started to blast my own magic fire at her, not exactly trying to hit her. I was careful to just aim around her, but close enough to where my attacks seemed lethal. I watched as she dropped Flowey and blocked my attacks with her own, faltering under my sudden offense.

When I paused my own attacks, I found fear filling her eyes, especially when I approached her. As I got closer, she fell to her knees in disbelief.

"How?" She looked at me, her whole body quivering. I just kneeled down in front of her, smiled, and hugged her.

"It's okay, Toriel. I forgive you."

I let go and stood up again, finding tears sliding down her tired face. She was staring at the ground, quiet. I heard a rustling, and when I lifted my head to look at the noise, I saw Flowey  laying on the stone floor. Slowly, I made my way over to him and picked him up.

"You okay?" I asked.

"Y-yeah...I'm fine." He stuttered and latched onto my arm. "How did you....I thought you were dead."

"I'll explain later." I said and turned around to face the door. I glanced at Toriel for one last time, sighed, and whispered out my apologies as I walked towards the great door that led to rest of the Underground. With a deep breath, I pushed against the door, causing it to open and I took my first step out.

"W-Wait!" Toriel's voice rung through the quiet room, causing me to turn to her. I didn't say anything; I didn't know what to say. "My child, Kara...please... Be safe and, don't be so forgiving. Us monsters don't deserve your mercy or your kindness."

Toriel still wouldn't look at me, but when I found myself frozen with pity, she jerked her head towards mine.

"Now leave!" Fresh tears fell down her face, causing laughter to escape her mouth. "Before I decide to change my mind."

I immediately closed the door behind me and started to run through the purple hallway. It was a really long hallway, and when I reached the end, I tripped and fell into the dark floor. I didn't know why I was sobbing. I guess it was because I felt lied to. Aunt Frisk had spoken so good about all of these monsters yet, the first major friend that she that she talked about, killed me.

"Kara? W-what's wrong?" Flowey peeked into my vision and cleared the blurriness of my eyes with his leaves. I tried to give him an answer but all that came out were more tears. I couldn't give him an answer. "Look, it's okay, Kara. I don't know what's wrong, but we need to leave this place. There's the door." Flowey pointed just straight ahead of us. "It's right there and if we don't leave any time soon, Toriel will come and probably kill us for real this time."

"Right..." I sniffled as I pulled myself off the floor. My hands rubbed my eyes, pushing away the tears. "Sorry..."

"It's fine." Flowey let out a light smile, giving me a sort of warmth. It was nice to know that I wasn't alone in this. I only nodded and smiled back at him. Facing the door, I made my way towards it, and pressed my hands against the cold stone. Slowly, I applied pressure to the door, finding that it was going to be a little harder to open in comparison to the door that I had left Toriel in. So, I pressed a bit harder, now feeling it open against the outward winds.

"What the-!?" I now slammed myself against the door, feeling the heavy weight of the stone on my face and chest. It was hard, fighting the wind against me, but with some magic, I was able to force it open just long enough for me to slip through. Close one, me.

Almost immediately, I felt snow being thrown at my face, causing the cold to send shivers up my spine. I could feel Flowey shivering next to me too.

"I-I forgot about the snow here..." Flowey stuttered, now using his leaves to cover his face. "Let's g-get out of here as soon as we can, o-okay?"

"Yeah." I nodded and started to step my way through the snow. Using my hands to rub my arms, I tried to warm myself up. It was hopeless. The clothing I wore wasn't made for weather like this. "Is it always like this?"

Flowey could only shrug.

"I don't t-think so."

I only nodded again. There was no point in talking when all I was trying to do was stay warm and not die.

It took me awhile to make my way through the snow, with the towering trees hanging over myself. Had I been alone, it would've felt quite lonely.

My steps continued along, soaking my shoes and socks until my feet became numb from the cold. The tip of my nose and fingers were numb, along with my cheeks, which were still tingling with nerves. The burns on my chest and arm were beginning to feel sore and flare against the pressure of the winds and snow. It hurt a lot.

It wasn't until I made my way to what appeared to be an oversized fence with a bridge, that we finally saw something. Whether it was for keeping someone in or out, was beyond my knowledge. Whatever it was, it was a poor attempt to whatever it was functioning to do. I continued passed it.

Now, I was beginning to sway in rhythm, trying to close my mind from being fully aware of the cold. If I didn't think about it, it wouldn't feel as bad. I moved my attention to the never ending snow, but to my relief, the path had opened up, revealing what appeared to be a hot dog stand, and an oddly shaped lantern, giving my attention something to actually focus on.

"Kara!" Flowey immediately stiffened up and started to urge me to hide behind one of the trees. I followed his lead.

"What?" I asked, trying to find what he was concerned about.

"Look!" He pointed at the hot dog stand.

At a first glance, it looked like a regular hot dog stand, but with some careful scanning, I could make out a monster, a skeleton, in fact, sleeping on the counter of the stand.

"Oh shoot." I muttered and crouched down closer to the ground. The monster looked somewhat familiar, but with the distance, my vision was growing kind of blurry. "Who is that?"

"That's Sans, Papyrus's older brother."

My mind went blank.

Sans? That's the one that my mother dated?

Looking at him again, I started to see the broad similarities between the monster and the pictures that I had in my pocket.

"What are we going to do, Flowey?" I asked, turning to him.

"We h-have to get passed him, s-somehow..." The flower said through a shiver and looked around. The woods around us were too tightly packed together for me to walk through, so the only option was to sneak pass Sans without being heard.

"Shoot..." I muttered, now hesitant to expose myself into the clearing. What would Sans be like? Violent too? Would he murder me like Toriel did?

I just didn't know the answers to those questions.

Worst case scenario...he catches me, and...doesn't kill me....

I hoped that he wouldn't kill me, anyways. On that note, I then started to quietly walk into the clearing, the sounds of my shoes crushing the snow hidden under the current winds.

I didn't make it very far.

I felt my chest being held down, and before me was that same green heart. I watched as it blinked into a dark blue, and my body was immediately dragged through the air and towards the hot dog stand. The sudden pull was so sudden and harsh, Flowey lost his grasp into my shoulder and fell off. My whole body was then brought down in front of the stand, with my chin hitting the top of the counter, sending me into a light daze.

"Well, well, well..." I heard a chuckle from the dark figure in front of me. That skeleton that Flowey had mentioned earlier was now facing me. "What do we have here? Another human?"

He finally brought himself into the light, showing off his smug grin. He had a line of sharp teeth, as well as a single, golden tooth to adorn the jaws. His jacket was black, with huge fluff around the hood. He also wore a red, knitted turtleneck.

I was honestly scared for my life.

"Hm..." He grabbed the nook of my chin and pulled me towards him, for better inspection. Almost immediately, I saw his eyes widen as he let me go. "What the hell?! Chara?!"

I was thrown back into the snow, where the cold refreshed my dazed senses. I rose up on my knees, only to see a bone pass by my head. My breath grew deeper in fear.

"Don't you move."

"I'm not her!" I screamed out, now shutting my eyes for whatever was happening.

"Right, right." Sans' said, his tone straining in sarcasm. I could just feel his eyes rolling at me. "Same hair color, same eye color, practically same face. Hell! I bet you even had the damn flower with you!"

"Flowey?"

"Who else?" He asked, almost challenging me. Tears were starting to well into my eyes, now causing me to shake.

"Please...Sans....I want nothing to do with you. I'm not her. My name is the same though, just spelled with a damn 'K' instead of a 'C-H'." I opened my eyes, now letting the tears streak across my face. "I don't know what's wrong with me, I-I just-"

"How do you know my name then if you're not really her?" Sans asked, his glare digging into my back. I could tell that his patience was running thin, and if I didn't do something, then I would get killed again.

"Because you were the one that dated (y/n)."

There was a silence.

I slowly turned to look at the skeleton, finding his eyes stuck with shock.

"(y/n) (l/n), right?" I asked, now slowly standing up to face him. I was cautious with my movements, after all, Sans could be wanting to kill me right about now. "Yeah, I-I'm her daughter."

"Her daughter?!" Sans exclaimed, now filled with disbelief.

"Her daughter?" He repeated, almost seeming angry with what I said. "There is no way in fucking hell that you're her daughter."

I started to back away from him, and as I did so, he sent a wave of bones towards me. Upon instinct, I crouched down and flickered up a green shield for cover, but I felt him grab ahold of my soul, causing my magic to falter. He then brought me close to his face, glaring into my eyes. Fear grasp onto my heart, causing my lips to quiver and body to shake.

"Here's lesson number one, pet." Sans growled into my face.

"Don't lie to me."
