Chapter Five
"I'm not lying to you!" I struggled with the soul restraint and my lack of movement. Sans started to walk off, further away from the Ruin's door.
"You're not lying to me? Oh, please. The only thing that I could really believe from your fucking mouth is the fact that you're not the actual Chara. Chara wouldn't be this stupid." Sans growled at me, causing me to struggle even more. This skeleton was pissing me off and as my time with him grew, so did my anger. How did Mom date this guy?!
Again, I struggled, now seeing the blue heart on my chest flicker green.
"Will you stop?!" Sans snapped, now glaring at my face.
"No! Who do you think I am? Some quiet girl you could just call 'pet'?" I snapped back at him. At this point, I didn't really care about buttering up to this skeleton. I just wanted to be let go. "Let me go! I can prove that I'm (y/n)'s daughter! I can prove it!"
I felt my soul tighten under his magic, and I was jerked down towards the ground. The snow hit my face and snagged onto my jacket, causing me to shut up.
"Like you can." He snarled and pulled me back into the air, now dragging me along. I screamed and started to flail in the air, smacking him flat on the skull as I did so.
"Let go of me!"
"Okay!" Sans was officially done with dealing with me. "You know, I was going to actually let you live, but I don't feel like dealing with your shit!" He then turned out towards the path and yelled out. "Hey, Pap! I have a present for you!"
Is he calling for....Papyrus? That's the oblivious, but really innocent skeleton, right?
Out of the foggy path and the wind, I was able to make out a tall figure walking it's way towards us. It was weird to know that there was another monster nearby.
"WHAT IS IT, SANS?" There was a crackling sort of tone; it sounded kind of groggy. I looked down at Sans, who only placed on some stupid grin.
"Catch!" He laughed, lifted his left arm as if he were to throw something, and flung me across the snow floor. My soul immediately felt lighter from being held, but flying across the path wasn't exactly a favorable alternative. I screamed as I saw the figure in front of us grow clearer and closer, finding that it was in fact, Papyrus, just in darker clothing from the pictures that I've seen. Again, my soul was held, turning blue, but this time under Papyrus' grasp.
"WHAT THE HECK IS THIS, SANS?" Papyrus immediately flung me into the air and caught me again, causing another scream to fall out of my lips. But, to my luck, he was oblivious to that. "IS THIS ANOTHER ONE OF YOUR STUPID LAMPS?"
"Nah, bro. Take an actual look at my present." Sans smirked at me as I felt myself drop in front of Papyrus' eyesight. His eyes were slim, in comparison to Sans'.
"YOU BROUGHT ME A HUMAN? HOW DID YOU CATCH IT BEFORE I DID?" Papyrus asked, now pulling me aside so he could glance at Sans. Sans only shrugged and smiled up at his brother.
"Eh, lucky?"
"LUCKY? NO. YOU MUST HAVE SOME TRICK TO CATCH THIS HUMAN." Papyrus grumbled, now inspecting me for any signs of 'foul play'.
"Eh, pretty sure I was just lucky, Pap."
Papyrus didn't seem to have heard him.
"WHATEVER. IT DOESN'T MATTER. I HAVE THE HUMAN NOW! AND NOW I CAN BE APART OF THE ROYAL GUARD!" Papyrus crackled in victory and turned away from Sans. "I WILL SEE YOU AT THE HOUSE, BROTHER."
"Kay."
I felt myself being dragged along through the cold air, causing for me to shiver and thanks to Sans for dumping me in the snow, I started to feel numbness practically cross through my entire body.
Papyrus was quiet, as far as I was aware. The wind still howled in my ears, limiting my hearing severely. It didn't really matter though, I still struggled to move.
"STOP IT, HUMAN." The skeleton commanded and spawned a bone to hit me on the head. I immediately stopped under the sudden headache and dazed trance. I groaned out, trying to run away the pain. I think there was a bump on my skull thanks to the impact.
"I-I don't mean a-any harm..." I worked my mouth to mumble out those words. It was hard to think with my brain shaking. "I j-just want to go home..."
"IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU WANT, HUMAN." Papyrus said, and turned away from me. I was now relying on instinct and basically anything possible to keep myself consious. My head was ringing and my body was shivering up into human popsicle. Everything felt frozen.
Slowly, I felt myself shut down, from my movement slowing to a stop, and my joints locking into place. It wouldn't be long until I felt my eyes begin to close, and the darkness to take over my senses.
"Don't judge them too harshly, Kara. Your kind is no better than them."
I heard the whisper against my ear, and my eyes fluttered open to see that no one was there. The voice sounded familiar, but I couldn't exactly pinpoint the person that had said it. Yet, that was the least of my concern as I began to inspect my surroundings. I found myself in what appeared to be a cold and bare garage. My body was nestled into a worn dog bed, and a thin, ragged blanket. At least I'm out of the wind.
As soon as I tried to get up, I felt an intense tingling ripple down my arms and legs, and some sort of harsh sting that penetrated my whole being. My chest and right arm hurt especially, being burnt and now clustered with frozen blood and bodily liquids. It couldn't heal properly.
I didn't know how I regained consiousness, but the most probable reason that I came up with would have been that I was a magician. By now, I would have frozen up or have some case of hypothermia. But still, even as a magician, my healing factor still had it's limitations. Why? Because I was also part human.
Shivering, I forced myself to limp across the cement floor and press myself against the bars of the garage. Never had I felt like a mistreated dog in my life, but I guess that there's always a first time for everything. Glancing down at the foot of the bars, it was easy to see that some renavations had been made. The bars appeared to have been built so they were closer together, and so a door could be installed. Before, the bars seemed to have been too far apart to hold anyone inside. It's too bad the creator of this small dungeon had actually moved to make this little adjustment. It would have been a lot easier to get out.
The bars seemed too sturdy for me to even attempt to budge, and with some weak tugging, I dropped to the floor and sat at the bottom of the bars. Pulling my knees towards my chest, I now kept myself in a tight ball, trying to conceal whatever heat I had left. It wouldn't really be that helpful through- my sweater and t-shirt were soaked through the fabric.
I sat there for some time, just thinking and wondering. What's Mom doing right now? Is she looking for me? She probably won't ever find me...she trusts that I would listen to her, especially about not visiting the mountain... She's probably going to my dad's house right now, trying to see if he took me or something... Oh, Kara. What have you done? You're going to send Mom into a craze...
I stopped and curled my eyebrows in defiance to my own thoughts. No! Stop thinking like that! Look, I may have messed pretty badly this time, but I have to escape this place. If Mom never knows what happened to me, she's going to be alone... I mean, she have Frisk, but that's a pretty big strain... Losing Sans, and then losing me.
I began to frown at the thought of Sans, feeling a small pit of anger guided towards the skeleton. What does Mom see in him anyways? He's so mean and ruthless. It's almost inhuman. I mean, heck! I was going to become a fricken pet to him!
I heard a rustling from the outside, so I turned to see if whoever caused the noise would interact at all with the garage. To my surprise, I saw the door open, and Sans walk right in, his red slippers seeming almost dry in the snow. Well, what the heck.
It was weird though, his expression. The way he walked inside the garage, he seemed cautious or even desperate. His hands were fumbling in his pockets nervously, and he even had to look over his shoulder before he closed the door shut. I watched as he came closer, and sat down, his hands still stuffing his pockets.
"What d-do you want?" I asked, feeling a light tang of aggression in my tone. I didn't mean for me to sound that pissed, but it is what it is. He flinched a bit, now showing off the guilt and regret in his eyes.
"Okay, okay..." Sans started, now seeming increasingly nervous for whatever he was going to ask for. He looked up at me, almost begging for the answer he wanted. "Are you actually (y/n)'s daughter?"
"Yes..." I answered, feeling the cold press against me. "W-why do you care all of a sudden?"
I watched as his face lit up like a young child that had gotten a new toy.
"I- You don't understand," Sans started to laugh out in relief, "how much that means to me."
"H-how is it that y-you can take my word for it a-all of a sudden?" I asked, holding myself. His eyes then actually started to look a little pitiful.
"This is where I tell you to prove it. Convince me, Kara, that you're her actual daughter." Sans' stare then became serious, now blocking out all past emotion. "And if you prove to be full of shit, I'm going to personally kill you myself."
"O-okay..." I stuttered, in both out of fear and the cold, and pulled out the pictures in my pocket. They were cold to the touch, and felt sort of frozen, but to my relief, were still in tact. All three of them, I handed over to Sans, hoping and praying that it would be enough to convince. "I-I think we can both a-agree that pictures l-like these could only c-come from one person. And we c-can also both agree that she would n-never willingly let anyone take these f-from her."
I looked up at Sans who took the pictures and scanned over them closely. Almost upon the sight of seeing them, his expression soften. His eyes calmed down into a quivering, hopeful trance as he glanced over the images. I saw some sort of happiness in his eyes, but also some type of hurt as he handed the pictures back and gave me a nod.
Sans let out a sigh and leaned against the opposing wall from me, burying his face into his hands. I didn't know what to think, but in a way, it was a beautiful thing to witness. I didn't know why I found it so interesting, but I assumed that there were some doors that were yet to be open and explored.
Again, Sans sighed and pulled his hands away from his face, now looking up at me. I already knew what he was trying to work up to say, and I could tell he was struggling to say the right thing. I decided to just let him slide on this.
"I-It's okay, Sans..." I forced myself to smile against the cold. "It's n-not your fault f-for not knowing."
Sans seemed surprised by my reaction and almost immediately he smiled back.
"Kid..." He looked out at the door of the garage and at the door of my cell. He then leaned forward, that way he was closer to me, and placed his left hand in between the bars, grabbing a hold of one of mine as he did so. "I'm going to make it all up to you."
"H-how?"
He grinned at me and shrugged a bit.
"However I can, Kara. I promise."
And he teleported the both of us away to his room.
"Lovely."
