Gail Hirst walked into Dove's Pub and ordered a glass of Merlot. Valerie poured the wine and put it on a coaster in front of the woman.

"How is youse feeling today, Gail?"
"Its still all a bit surreal, Val. I can't believe Daddy is gone."
She sipped her wine.
"You know, it doesn't matter what he did. I know Daddy did bad things in his life, but I can't believe that he would do what he did to Simon."

Gail had been in Newfoundland for over a week, most of it spent in Tuckamore Bay. Over the course of her conversations with the RCMP and with people of the Bay, she was able to piece together the story of the last few months of her father's life.
"He still bes your Daddy," Valerie reminded her.
"I know and he will always have a place in my heart and I will always love him. But I will never forgive him for what he did to me, to poor Simon, wherever he may be and to you and the others here in the Bay.
His fixation with this gold legend, I believe, drove him over the deep end."
"Well, 'e bes at rest now."
Gail smiled, as she sipped her wine again.
"Well, I don't believe he will ever be at rest now."
Jackson Lamont's body was burned beyond recognition and only dental records were able to make the positive I.D.
It had always been his wish to be buried on his ranch in Alberta, but once the whole story came to light, Gail decided that he deserved to be buried in Tuckamore Bay.
With the blessing of the Bay, Jackson's remains were buried at the far end of the cemetery, with only a small, simple headstone marking his final resting place. The funeral had been the day before and in true Bay fashion, the entire village turned out, not for Jackson Lamont, but for his daughter.
It had been a simple ceremony, with Harry Tucker saying the final prayers.
Gail took a pack of cigarettes from her pocket and as she lit one, Valerie put an ashtray in front of her.
"So what are you going to do now?"
Gail drew on her cigarette.
"I don't know Val. For now, I am going to stick around the Bay for a while. I want to see Bill and Matty when they get back.
After that I will go back home. I think I will sell everything and get the fuck out of Alberta."
"Where will youse go?"
Gail smiled.
"Well, there is this wonderful little village that I have absolutely fallen in love with. Maybe I will move there."
Valerie put her hand on Gail's.
"We would love to have you here, Gail. But where would you stay?"
"Well, for the interim, I would stay at the motel. I have talked to Tanya about building a chalet down in Sandy Cove or expanding on one of the executive suites, adding an extra floor.
Or maybe I will just build a comfortable little home here in the Bay.
Bottom line is I have to talk to Bill and Matty about it."
"Ise don't think there will bes any problem there."
Clayton Rideout and Carl Pike entered the Pub.

"Hot Toddies fer us, daughter," Carl ordered.
The two men removed their coats and sat at the bar, on either side of Gail.
"Put it on my tab," Gail told Valerie.
"Well thank youse missus," Clayton smiled, as he patted Gail's hand.
"Your hands are freezing, Clayton."
"It bes cold as fuck out dere, Gail."
"But wese gots it all cleaned up Gail," Carl told her.
"Wese wants to thank youse fer lookin' after dat fer us. Youse didn't 'ave to."
"Yes I did. I know the last thing the Bay needed was some crash site in the middle of their plans.
In the spring, I will see to it that landscapers come in here and return that area right back to the way it was."
Valerie put the hot toddies in front of the two men.
"Youse don't need to do dat, Gail. Mudder Nature will looks after dat."
"No, Clayton. I will see that the entire area is cleaned up so there is not even a nut or bolt left there and new trees will be planted and whatever else has to be done."
"Well, wese appreciates dat, Gail. Yuse bes a gud woman."
"Thank you Clayton."
"So, is youse gonna bes okay?"
Gail took a deep breath.
"I will be Clayton. At least now I have the whole story, except for where my Simon is."
"Youse tink dey will ever finds 'e?" Carl wondered.
Gail shook her head.
"There are a hundred ponds and lakes in that area. He could be in either one."
Gail shivered slightly, as she snuffed her cigarette.
"It just bothers me to think that he's sitting at the bottom of one of them. Simon was not one for water, at the best of time. It just bothers me to think that his final resting place is at the bottom of some pond."
Randi walked out from the kitchen and put a plate in front of the three.
"I would like you to try my new recipe."
"What bes this?"

"Well, Daddy Carl, this is what I call bite size fish cakes. I have taken traditional fish cakes, added some shrimp and clam and quick fried them."
All three took toothpicks and stabbed one of the bite size fishcakes, dipping it into the sauce on the plate.
"These are delicious," Gail moaned.
She took another one. "Absolutely delicious."
The two men agreed.
"I figured I could use fish in season. Use cod or shrimp, lobster, mussels, crab or whatever else is in season."

"It must take time to make these," Gail added, as she took another one.
Randi shook her head.
"I got the boys at the fab plant to make me a special tray and cutter, from stainless steel. Works like a charm.
So you really like them?"
All three nodded, mouths full.
"Then we have a new menu item."
She started for the kitchen.
"Eat up people and enjoy."
Gail wiped her mouth and turned to Carl.
"So how is this Val, Randi thing working out?"
"Fantastic. Linny and Ise just loves Randi and Val, she bes simply 'ead over 'eals in love with 'er. They be inseparable."
"They really seem to like each other."
Carl nodded.
"All Linny and Ise cares 'bout is dat Val bes 'appy."
Carl's cell phone rang.
"Sec."
He stepped away from the bar.
"What's up Linny?"
"Comes home right away Carl."
"What bes wrong?"
"Jest comes 'ome. Ise tells youse when youse gets here."
Carl excused himself, put on his coat and hurried out of the Pub. Moments later he rushed into his house calling out his wife's name.
Lindsay came out of their bedroom with an overnight bag in her hand.
"Youse bes leavin' me?"
Lindsay rolled her eyes.
"Youse think I'd tell youse if I were?"
She laughed.
"Go takes a shower. Wese got to gets going."

"Goin'? Where?"
"I'll tell youse in da truck."
Twenty minutes later the two hugged Liam, telling him that he was staying with Valerie and Randi for a couple days and they drove out of the Bay.
"Now does Ise get to knows what bes goin' on?"
Lindsay pulled on the highway and started going south, toward Deer Lake.
"I got a call from Matty."
"When will deys be back?"
"They are back now. They are stayin' at the top floor chalet in the Marble Mountain building."
"I thought they weren't back 'till tomorrow."
"They came back early. Matty turned on 'er cellphone and saw all the texts that been goin' back and forth on the TT.
They flew back and called me. Dey wants us to comes down, stay with them, so wes can fill dem in on all dat been goin' on."
Lindsay took a deep breath.
"She didn't sound too happy."
"Wese did what wese could, Linny. Wasn't our fault some of the shit dat went down.
We did our best."
Lindsay patted her husband's hand.
"Ise knows sweetie. But maybe wese could 'ave done better."
Carl shook his head.
"Ise don't knows 'ow. dere were a lot goin' on. Wese did sa best we could. Did what wes felt were right."
"I knows. I jest kept wonderin' what Bill and Matty would have done."
"Ise don't knows what else dey could 'ave done, ant dif'rent, dat we didn't."
Lindsay lit a cigarette.
"Well, Ise guess wese will find out soon."
The two drove the remaining hour or so, in relative silence, wondering what the real reason was, behind Bill and Matty wanting to meet them away from the Bay. And in such secrecy.
It was almost a hour and a half later, when Lindsay and Carl were standing, nervously, outside the door of their friends room.
"Here goes nothing," Lindsay sighed, as she knocked on the door.
A moment later, Matty opened the door.
"There you guys are."
She quickly hugged both of them.
"Get in here. We were beginning to worry about you two."

Bill joined them and hugged the two as well.
"Put your bag by the couch and let me get you both a drink."

Matty hugged Lindsay again.
"I have missed you girlfriend."
"I missed you to, Matty."
Matty stared at Lindsay.
"You okay? You are acting a little strange."
"Wese were jest worried dat yuse were vexed wit us, 'cause of all the shit dat went on in the Bay."
Matty helped the two with their coats, as Bill passed them both beers.
"No. Not at all. We were just worried for you two."
The four sat in the huge living room, that looked out over the ski slope.
"Its beautiful here," Lindsay gasped, watching the skiers.
"Well, Matty and I thought that it might be a nice break for you two to spend a couple days away from the Bay. A couple days to relax and give the four of us a chance to catch up."
Bill raised his glass.
"To friendship."
All four drank and Matty sat back on the couch next to Bill.
"Now. What the fuck happened while we were gone."
Lindsay laughed.
"Where do I start."
The four talked for nearly four hours, as Lindsay and Carl related their story and answered Bill and Matty's questions.
While they talked, Bill ordered supper for them and when it was delivered to the room, the four sat at the dining room table.
"Unbelievable," Bill sighed, as he poured red wine for three of them and non alcoholic wine for Matty.
"What was Jackson hoping to accomplish?"
"Who knows," Lindsay shrugged.
"All wese have been able to figure out is that he were obsessed with gold dat he were sure was in da Bay. He were not the same man at all."
Matty shook her head.
"And he killed Simon and then was going to kill this Angie woman?"
"That is what the RCMP figures. All the signs points dat way, but Ise guess wese will never knows."
"Unless his spirit is in the Bay," Bill remarked.
Lindsay and Carl looked at each other.
"What?" Matty barked.
"Nanny Dove says dat Jackson's spirit did shows up, but it were snatched away by Paddy Webster."
"The pirate?" Bill wondered, wide eyed.
Carl nodded.
"Nanny Dove says 'e just showed up and snatched Jackson's spirit. Den said dat 'e wants to talks to youse two."
"What would he want to talk to us about?"
"Don't knows, Matty. Guess youse will just have to wait and see."
Bill sat up in his chair, sipping his wine.
"Seems like you two more than had your hands full while we were gone."
"Wese did our best, Bill," Lindsay explained.
"Dere were times we were jest flying by the seat of our pants. But, as always, da rest of the Bay were always there. We managed to get through."
"Well Matty and I want to thank both of you for what we can see, is an amazing job, the two of you have done. Matty and I are indebted to both of you."
Carl blushed slightly.
"Wese jest did what wese were supposed to do, Bill. Youse and Matty wanted us to look after tings and dats what we tried to do."
"You both did amazingly well, Carl. That is why Bill and I want to give the both of you more freedom when it comes to making decisions for TB Limited.
We want both of you involved in any decisions involving the company. Your input and insight are very important to us."
"And of course, we will reward you appropriately."
Lindsay shook her head.
"You pays us more than fair for what wese do."
"I knew you would say that," Matty said, as she stood up.
"So we decided to take a different approach."
She took an envelope from the drawer in a nearby desk and walked to Lindsay.
"And this is our different approach."
She passed her the envelope and walked back to her chair.
Lindsay opened the envelope and took out the document inside. She read in silence and then stared at Bill and Matty.
"Well, we feel that the best way to motivate people to be their best, is to have them working for themselves."
Lindsay passed the document to Carl and walked to Matty, hugging her tightly.
"Thank you. We won't let you down."
She went to Bill and hugged him.
"Well you will be letting yourself down as well."
Carl joined his wife in thanking Bill and Matty.
"I think a toast is called for," Bill smiled, as he went to the refrigerator and took out a bottle of champagne.
Moments later he held up his glass.
"To Lindsay and Carl. Thank you."
The four drank and Bill refilled their glasses.
"If things continue to grow," Matty informed the two, "we will increase the percentage little by little. But we felt that 5% of TBL was a good start."
"We will not let you down," Lindsay smiled, tears rolling down her cheeks.
"I promise you that."
Bill took another bottle of champagne from the refrigerator.
"Okay enough business."
He pointed to the living room area.
"Now tell us all about Quinton and Tanya and Randi and Val."
They spent the rest of the night talking about happy events.
