Jimmy's POV:

Loud music was playing from the house. I was lying down on the bed, the cold air caused a shiver to run up my spine. I was staring up at the ceiling. I tried to make out all of the cracks that I could see in the darkness.

"Do you think that they went downstairs?" Tommy asked.

I turned my head so that I could see his silhouette. He was lying down staring up at the ceiling too, but his leg was propped up with pillows that Emily gave him once she change his gauze for him.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"You called the cops," he said. "Do you think that they went into the basement? They probably did. They probably searched the whole house."

"Does it matter?" I asked. "Carrie already told everyone that you told her that we're murders. Everyone is already on the lookout for us."

"Jim, I'm talking about the freezer."

My heart felt like it threw itself against my ribcage. I never thought about the freezer. I knew that the walls and floor were stained with blood and that we left piles of bones, but I never thought about the meat. It was all packaged in the freezer, but surely they wouldn't investigate into it? It appeared to be just like pork. Julie didn't even notice anything odd about it until I told her.

"We'll be fine," I told him. "It can't get any worse than this."

"What if they find the graves?" Tommy asked.

"They won't find those."

The graveyard was tucked away in the back corner of our farm. It was hidden by trees and it didn't look like any graveyard in town. The baby girl's graves were marked by an attempt to stick a branch in the ground and make a cross. The only ones with names were my parents. I carved their names into rocks and set them down at the bottom of their cross. For the first few years after my mother died, I used to make a paper headstone and stick it to the cross. I wrote her name on it with the crayons Dad would buy and I replaced it every week so it that it still looked nice and new.

"Are you sure?" he asked. "Julie may tell them."

"Julie didn't know about them," I told her.

"Really? Because you always took her outside even though she was never supposed to leave the house."

"Don't tell me how I was supposed to train my girl. You're the one who screwed up."

"This is not my fault!" Tommy propped himself up in his bed so that his weight was resting on his elbow.

"Not your fault? You're the one who stabbed Julie."

"She was-."

Tommy was cut off when someone knocked on the door. I didn't get up to answer it. I had no clue who it was. It could be cops. Steve probably told them where we were. I knew I couldn't trust him.

The door opened and Emily stumbled in. She had her long hair tumbling down her back and she had a tank top on and a pair of pajama bottoms. She flicked the light on. I squinted to stop the brightness from burning my eyes.

"I've got news," she sand out as she continued to stumble into the room.

She reeked with the smell of alcohol. Now that she wasn't wearing a sweater, I could see the array of tattoos that littered her arms. None of them were those swastikas that the others had. She fell down onto the edge of bed. I sat up and crossed my legs. I hadn't bothered to change, so I was still wearing my T-shirt and jeans.

"What is it?" Tommy asked.

"Your girl," she told me, "whatever her name is...wait...it was Juliet. Yeah, so, Juliet has now talked to the cops."

"Julie talked to the police?" I asked.

It didn't sound right to me. Julie was good. She would never tell the cops about our family. Unless they warped her mind into believing this is what she wants.

"Yeah, she didn't say much though," Emily said.

"I told you she'd squeal, Jim," Tommy said as his lips curled into a smirk.

"Shut up," I snapped.

"Don't worry," Emily said. She reached out and grabbed my shoulder with her hand. "She doesn't know where you are. Apparently, she wasn't saying anything. They're questioning her even more tomorrow."

"What did she say?"

"It's big news that you two had a baby. The reporters are loving that."

"When did you find this out?" Tommy asked her.

"Just a couple of minutes ago. Many people won't know. It was on one of those late night news shows, but by the morning everyone will know."

She leaned in closer to me. Her breath tickled my skin and made me want to gag. I don't know how people could put something like that in her body.

"Don't worry. Steve's got this," she said.

She got up onto her knees so that she could lean in even closer to me. I backed up, but my back was already pressed against the wall.

"You know I used to be just like you," she said. "I stabbed my step-dad in the throat when he tried to force himself on me. That was six years ago and I'm still a missing person. My name isn't even really Emily."

Emily slid forward so that she was sitting on my lap. I pushed her off of me and she fell back onto the bed. She giggled as she rolled off the bed and spread herself out across the floor.

"You should go back inside with Steve," I told her.

"He's passed out on the couch," she said. "And I don't really want to get up."

I let out a deep breath and threw my legs off of the bed. If I let Emily stay here for much longer she'd fall asleep on the ground. Steve would be mad when he finds out that she's really here and he'll kick us out of his house for sure.

I reached down and picked her up off of the ground. She giggled as I threw her over my shoulder. I opened the door to the garage and peered outside. Nobody was near, and there was no headlights to cars that may be passing on the road, so I hurried outside. Emily continued to giggle as I went up the stairs to the porch. I set her down outside the door. She reached out and grabbed my shoulders and curved her body into mine.

"You know, you're really hot," she said. "That scar is actually pretty attractive."

"Are you okay now?" I said ignoring her comment. "You should head inside."

"Can you help me to bed?" she asked, resting her head against my chest.

"I don't think I should-."

"Please," she whined and cut me off. "It'll just take a quick sec."

"Fine."

She smiled and slid her one arm down so that she was grabbing my wrist. She opened up the door and pulled me into the house. The news was still playing, and the glow of the television was the only light in the room. Steve was asleep on the couch and empty beer bottles littered the ground.

Emily pulled me to the next room. There was a large bed and the blankets were in a twisted mess and clothes blanketed the floor. Emily spun around and threw her arms around my neck. She smashed her lips against mine. I pushed her off of me and she pouted.

"Can you spend the night with me?" she asked.

"No, I can't," I told her. "I love Julie."

"But Julie is gone," she said. "You're never actually going to see her again."

I bit down on my lip and dropped my gaze to the floor. I didn't want her to see how much her comment hurt me. I tried my best to keep those thoughts out of my head. I couldn't spend the rest of my life without her or Hunter.

"Steve, wouldn't like it," was all I said. "Get into bed."

She nodded her head and crawled into bed. I untangled the sheets and tucked her in. She was fast asleep by the time I was done. It reminded me of tucking Julie in when she was pregnant. I always planted a kiss on her forehead and watched her for a few minutes before I got changed. Now, I couldn't wait to get out of the room.

I was quiet as I snuck out of the room. I didn't want to have to explain to Steve why I was in there. Luckily, he was still asleep on the couch.

His chest was rising and falling at a calm rhythm. It would be easy to go into the kitchen and take a knife and slit his throat and then slit Emily's. They wouldn't know what happened to them. I had no idea where Adam was and I didn't want to get blindsided by him. It would have to wait until tomorrow.

I made my way back into the garage. The light was still on and Tommy was lying in bed with his eyes shut. He opened one eye when he heard me close the door shut.

"Turn off the light," he told me. "It hurts."

I flicked the light off and then collapsed onto my bed. The taste of Emily's bad breath lingered in my mouth.

"Julie is going to be what gets us caught," Tommy said.

He was right, but I knew that she wouldn't say anything.
