Chapter Nineteen

A/N: this chapter contains the airport battle, so be ready (it's also quite long)

When I had all my senses back I kinda wished they went away again. The amount of pain I was feeling caused me to groan when it all came rushing into existence. There was a doctor beside me who pushed something that made the pain start to go away again. They walked away and spoke to someone. I finally had the courage to open my eyes up and try to figure out my surroundings. Then memories came flooding back.

The book. He had the damn book.

"Hey," someone greeted softly as they approached my bedside. The pillow my head was on was fluffed up and set up in a way so I didn't have to crane my neck to see who it was that joined me at my bedside. Nat sat down in a chair on my right. Her hand reached out and grabbed mine. I looked in her eyes and saw they were red.

"I watched you fall," she explained when she noticed I saw her tears. "I was absolutely terrified until I ran up and found a pulse. Your instincts kicked in at a good time, Rey." Her words went into my head but didn't entirely register. I was worrying about the fake psychiatrist and how he not only my book, but Barnes' too. A pair of fingers snapped in front of her eyes. "Hey, what are you thinking about?" she asked me.

Everything came out with that question. "He had the book. The asshole not only had my book, but he had the one for him too. I know that's what he used to get into Barnes' head and make him soldier out. He used it to get in my head and make me soldier out. That 'psychiatrist' is a liar and is out to get us. He wants to see an empire fall. He's the real villain here." Nat took everything in.

The door to this room opened up and I saw Stark walk in. He looked a bit hesitant until Nat gave him a barely noticeable nod. My memory of our fight came up in my head and now I understood why he was hesitant. "I'm sorry about what happened down there," I said to him. "I just need you to understand I had no control." More than anything I needed them all to know I wasn't in my head during that. They probably wanted to throw me in a cell.

"It's fine, I get it. I was pretty rude blinding you and all that too." Something in my expression gave away my thoughts loudly. "Don't worry, you're still free. I convinced Ross and the King back there that you didn't need to be thrown in a cell for that. You may be on thin ice with them, but you're still standing."

I visibly relaxed at the news and let out a content sigh. The pain was subsiding and I started to sit up. "So what injuries do I have? I doubt I came out clean with a fall like that," I asked. Nat cleared her throat and grabbed a clip board from a table beside her.

She looked over it and found the spot with my injuries. "A minor concussion, hairline fracture in you right arm, your wound re-opened so they had to stitch it back closed, a couple fractured spots on your spine, and a couple severely bruised ribs. I don't know how nothing broke, but hey! That's good, right?" Some how, despite the situation at hand, Nat managed to make me laugh.

"Yes, it is a good thing that I haven't broken any bones. I don't know how long it would've taken for them to heal and it seems that I'll need to be up and on my feet soon," I said.

The silence was deafening. Neither Stark or Nat spoke after I said that, which worried me. "Why are we being quiet?" I asked in a whisper. The other two shared some looks, like they were having a conversation with their eyes, and finally Stark sighed and looked at me.

"Look, you'd be a great help out there, but I don't know if it's the best idea," Stark said. My jaw dropped in disbelief. I was being sidelined? "Trust us when we say that it would be best for you to stay here and recover."

I scoffed. "Be best? I'll be healed up in no time from that crap Hydra gave me, so I'll be in good condition to fight! Or am I being sidelined because of who we're up against? Or because of the events that occurred not too long ago? Or is there something else keeping me in this bed? Please just tell me," I ranted.

Nat took this one. "Sort of all of the above." She sighed and grabbed my hand that was closest to her. "You need to be protected. Sure your physical injuries may heal but what about mentally? Rey, you were just forced back into being the Shadow Soldier for the first time in a while. That can't be good on your mental health," she said. The words came out in an endearing tone as opposed to her talking down to me. I knew this was all because they cared, and I truly appreciated that, but they'd need all hands on deck if they were going to get past everybody on the other side.

Sides. What a strange concept: the Avengers being on different sides, fighting each other over a stupid book. What have 'Earth's Mightiest Heroes' become? I didn't fit into this equation, but it was weird watching these people who were a team picking sides.

I came out of my thoughts and looked Nat in the eye. "I appreciate the kindness you are showing, but you need my help. I'll deal with everything after the fighting is over and I have the time. For now, we need to go out there and just figure all of this out. Maybe it can be done without a fight, maybe not. We'll soon figure it out."

Nat bit her lip, the only time I've ever seen any sort of worry/anxiety being shown from her, and stood. She started to walk out and took Stark with her. I figured they were just going to leave me there without saying a word, but I saw their shadows stay outside of the room I was in.

Their voices were hushed as they quickly spoke. It was all just back and forth whispers, some angrier than others, until a few minutes later the door opened again to reveal Stark walking back in and Nat standing outside.

"Alright kid, let's go. You need to get suited up before we do anything else," he said. I smiled in victory and got out of the bed quickly. Stark led Nat and I out to a jet so we could travel to where the others would be. Apparently a lot was discussed while I was out and in recovery. In the jet I saw Rhodes, King T'Challa, and one person I had never seen before. A lot happened while I was out, more than I thought.

Nat handed me something while I got onto the jet. I looked down at the bundle of leather and then back up at her in confusion. "You didn't exactly bring anything to fight in, so I thought this would work. It was supposed to be a surprise for a later date, but you need it now," she explained. She had a smirk on her face that didn't make me worried, but made me excited.

I stepped into the jet all the way so the door could close and unfolded the gift. It was a suit like Nat's except it had hints of a sort of golden-orange color for accent marks. This was one of the first things I had ever gotten that was made for me and me only, and I looked over at Nat. She changed her smirk to a genuine smile, and I gave her one back.

"There's a bathroom you can change in over there," she said, and pointed her thumb at a door that led to the bathroom. I sped past her and everyone else and quickly got into the bathroom to change. The suit was so nice and so new, which made me a bit worried that I wouldn't be able to fit in it very well. A couple minutes later, with the help of my wisps, I had the suit on and looked really badass. Like, there was no doubt that I looked like...

"A superhero," I whispered to myself in the mirror.

I left the bathroom and went over to Nat first to show her my new look. "What do you think? Does it fit alright?" I asked.

"It looks perfect," she said. The smile she had caused me to smile back, and I sat next to her on the jet. Across from us sat the others except for Stark, who was at the front of the jet 'flying' it (which meant he was sitting up there while FRIDAY controlled everything).

My eyes landed on the new superhero, and I noticed he's had his mask on the entire time. I nudged Nat, which caused her to look at me, then I did a small gesture towards the red and blue boy. "Who's that?" I whispered.

Nat looked over at the boy and back to me. "Not entirely sure. All I know is he's a kid Tony decided to bring along as a 'surprise element' I guess...I don't even think this is allowed with the Accords and all that." I nodded as I took in all the information then looked back at the boy. He kept staring at his hands that were fiddling around in his lap. Part of me wanted to meet him, but the sensible part of me discouraged it. Instead I just sat next to Nat while getting used to being in my suit.

The jet ride was filled with an amazing amount of tension between everyone. King T'Challa was probably pissed off at me from our fighting, Rhodes probably didn't really think I belonged here, the new guy either knew a lot about me or nothing, and then Nat and Tony really weren't looking forward to being on a different side than Rogers.

I didn't really know how I felt. Of course I really didn't want to fight anyone I was supposed to be allies with, but this was what I had to do with the Accords. This was my new life where I had to follow new rules or get put into a cell. Well, that really didn't seem much different then my Hydra life.  I just had new rules and a new cell waiting for me.

~~

We all got to the airport and Stark quickly went over to let the people in charge know about what was going to go down. I stood on a bridge thing with the King, waiting for our cue to jump on in.

It was quiet between the two of us as we sat and waited. I debated in my head but ultimately decided to try and make some conversation, or at least an apology. "Your Highness," I started, causing him to turn towards me. "I want to apologize for what happened back at the base. I didn't know what I was doing and I didn't mean to hurt you. Or anyone in fact."

"It's alright." The quick acceptance of my apology threw me for a second. That was not what I expected. "Ms. Romanoff filled me in on what happened while you were in recovery. It helped me understand that you were not in your right mind and the attacks you made were purely on Hydra instinct," he said.

I didn't really know how to respond to that other than a nod. We settled into the quiet again when I thought, "If you can excuse me then can't you excuse Barnes for doing the exact same thing?" I didn't have time to voice that question however because suddenly Rogers was running towards the helicopter.

The two of us watched the interaction between Rhodes, Stark, and Rogers. I looked over and saw King T'Challa getting ready to jump so I got some wisps ready to 'fly' out of there as well. He went first and landed on one side, and I followed right after landing on the other side.

Rogers looked at the King first who greeted him with, "Captain."

"Your Highness." Rogers looked over at me next and I saw some form of guilt flash through my eyes. "Look, Silva I'm sorry about what happened," he said. His weak attempt at an apology was laughable at best.

"About what happened? You mean when you kicked me off a roof knowing I'd most likely die? Is that the event you're talking about?" I asked him. He clenched his jaw and almost looked ashamed. Almost. "As I'm sure you get by now, I remember everything that happens even when I'm the Soldier. I remember not being able to form a cohesive enough thought until I was a couple feet off the ground to try and save my life."

Rogers looked pretty pissed now. "You were going to do the same. You pushed me towards the edge and came after me probably to finish the job."

I took a challenging step forward. "That's where you're wrong, Rogers. Even as the Soldier my main goal was incapacitate not obliterate. I was going to try and knock you out, as in had you lose consciousness. I was not going to shove you off a building." My eyes were alight with fury as I glared at Rogers. He could feel the angry radiating off of me too.

"Anyway," Stark started again and got back to talking to Rogers. "Ross gave me 36 hours to bring you in. That was 24 hours ago. Can you help a brother out?" he asked, desperate to avoid the inevitable fight.

"You're after the wrong guy," he said. It was his was of saying 'fuck you' and Stark could tell too.

Stark didn't leave a beat between his response an Rogers' statement. "Your judgement is askew." He let the words hang in the air for a moment before going on. "You're old war buddy killed innocent people yesterday."

Rogers wasn't having any of this. "And there are five more super soldiers just like him," he said,  pretty much cutting Stark off. "I can't let the doctor find them first Tony. I can't."

"Steve." Nat was behind Steve now, and he turned around to face her. There was something in both of their expression leading me to believe it was hard for them to be against each other. She went on, saying, "you know what's about to happen. Do you really want to punch your way out of this one?"

Rogers didn't respond but instead turned back to face Stark. In a way, that was the response he intended to give, saying with his actions that he was going to protect his friend no matter what was going to happen to himself.

Stark was looking at the ground in defeat. He didn't want to fight, but that's where we've come to. "All right, I've run out of patience." He moved his hands around his mouth and called out "Underoos!"

A weird sound came from about as the new kid came and stole Rogers' shield and webbed his wrists together. The kid did a flip and landed on a luggage carrier car with the shield. To be honest, the whole moment looked pretty badass, until the talking started.

"Nice job kid," Stark said with a nod and I nodded towards him as well. Rogers looked confused and...nope, just really confused.

The kid stood up and started to talk. "Thanks. I could've stuck the landing a little better, it's just..." he motioned down at the suit he was wearing. "New suit." Then the white part of the spider-eyes widened and he kept going. He started to stutter as he tried to take back his previous comment on the suit. "It's nothing Mr. Stark, it's perfect thank you."

"Yeah we don't really need to start a conversation," Stark responded while trying to just move on and get back to the point.

"O-okay. Cap-captain," the kid greeted with a small salute. I tilted my head to the side as I tried to figure out what the hell was going through this kid's head that made him think this was how fights usually went. "Big fan. I'm-I'm Spider-Man," he said, introducing himself to not only Rogers but the others who didn't really know him.

Stark looked done with this conversation and had a hint of regret with not talking about what the kid needed to do during the fight. "Yeah, we'll talk about it later." He was trying very hard to just get on with it and I was trying very hard to remain professional. "Just- good job." Spider-Man waved at everyone one last time.

Rogers finally decided to interrupt whatever the hell just happened. "You've been busy," he commented.

Stark's head snapped back towards Rogers and he quickly retorted, "And you've been a complete idiot. Dragging in Clint. 'Rescuing' Wanda from a place she doesn't even want to leave, a safe place. I'm trying to keep-" he stopped from yelling and took a deep breath. This was emotionally difficult for many it seemed. "I'm trying to keep you from tearing the Avengers apart," he ended up saying. The wobble in his voice stood out. This was not something he wanted to do, but Rogers seemed keen on doing it.

"You did that when you signed." Rogers' voice was still steady and strong. It made me think that he didn't care about the people he was about to hurt; all that mattered to him was keeping his friend safe. A friend who was innocent and by doing this, it all made Barnes look guilty.

The absolute betrayal on Stark's face physically pained me. It was as if everything had just crumbled right in front of him. "All right, we're done," he said in a quiet voice as he collected himself. He looked back up at Rogers. "You're going to turn Barnes over, you're gonna come with us, now, because it's us or a squad of J-SOC guys with no compunction about being impolite." Rogers finally broke eye contact and looked off to the side. "Come on," Stark whispered.

Something made Rogers look back at Stark and I could barely see an ear piece in his left ear. I made a small gesture towards Nat to let her know that he was communicating with others, possibly more than just Barnes and possibly Wilson. There was another pause and suddenly Rogers moved his webbed hands up in the air. I started to move forward to stop what was going to happen but I was too late. An arrow pierced the webbing and his hands were free again.

"Alright Lang," he said, and after that someone suddenly appeared next to the kid, kicking the latter out of the way with a flip and returning the shield to Rogers.

We all sat in confusion as this new guy gave Rogers his shield. "I believe this is yours Captain America," he said as he gave it over.

"Oh great." Tony said over the comms as he got his helmet on. "There's two in the on the parking deck. One of them's Maximoff. I'm gonna grab her. Wanna come Silva?" he asked.

I shook my head. "I don't think that's the best idea," I responded. The Iron Man and War Machine suits started to lift off the ground.

Stark looked over at Rhodes. "Rhodey you wanna take Cap?" he asked as he flew away.

"Got two in the terminal, Wilson and Barnes," he responded.

The King was next to move. "Barnes is mine!" he exclaimed and ran towards the terminal.

I decided to join him instead and get to Sam. "Your Highness I hope you don't mind a little company," I said, not even bothering to ask what he wanted. The two of us ran to the terminal as Rhodes and Rogers started to battle it out.

There was some other chatter over the comms but I didn't pay much attention unless I heard my name come up. It hadn't so far so I kept on course to the terminal. King T'Challa and I were pretty much neck and neck to see who would get there first (even though it wasn't a competition) when he out of nowhere fell forwards. I turned my head and caught a glimpse of Rogers catching his shield and put two and two together. His next move was unknown to me so I just put up some wisps behind me to act as a shield and continued to run towards the terminal. Behind me I heard the two men struggling as they fought and knew I was no longer a priority to Rogers.

I looked up on the glass and saw the kid land on one of the windows. He then swung out and broke one to get through, and I decided to go through that one as well. Using some of my abilities I flew myself up and flew into the terminal. I watched as Barnes threw a punch at the kid, and the kid caught the punch.

"You have a metal arm? That is awesome, dude." I noticed he hadn't gone in for a counter attack and knew this was Barnes and not the Soldier. Sam came into my vision next as he ran up and extended his wings, grabbed the kid, and tried to fly him out. Spider-Man was yelling something, possibly Sam's Miranda Rights, as they fought and flew. I landed in front of Barnes and tried a sane, peaceful approach.

He looked at me and paused, and I could feel myself pausing too. "Look, this doesn't have to get ugly Barnes. We want peace just as much as you do."

"Well your version of peace sort of involves me in a locked cell, doesn't it?" he asked. I ignored the rhetorical question and made no move to advance. "I didn't do the bombing," he said next, pleading for innocence.

I shrugged. "Maybe you didn't. But running won't make anyone think you're less guilty than they already do. If you cooperate and swear to tell the truth you can get out of this in a better way than if you resist," I said. Bargaining didn't seem like it would help, but I gave it a try nonetheless.

He wanted to say something back but we were both distracted by the noise of Spider-Man getting out of Sam's grasp and swinging around to get to Sam. There was more chatter over the comms as I watched the two fight, with Spider-Man throwing and swinging on webs while Sam shot at him.

I finally decided to ignore Barnes and flew up to help. At least, that's what I tried. A hand wrapped around my ankle and brought me back to the ground quickly. I landed with a hard thud on my ass and had to take a second to recover and stand back up.

Barnes looked at me with determination. "You have to understand better than anyone else here what life is like after Hydra. Do you really think that I want to do any of this? I was fine in my own place after I left- after I escaped! It wasn't until you guys sought me out that everything went to hell. I only ran from you because I just want some sort of freedom." Not only did he sound determined, he sounded desperate.

"I get that you want freedom Barnes but being on the run from nearly all governments around the world is not freedom. You will never truly be free if you run away," I said. I was trying everything to not fight him. The moment I start to fight him is the moment I get flashed from memories where he nearly killed me. "I also get that Rogers is your best friend- the only constant thing you can remember. His idea of safety for you isn't the best. He's trying too hard to get you out of this that he isn't realizing what you're being put in."

I could see gears turning in his head. There was second there where I thought he was actually considering my words, but instead he was waiting for his moment. I noticed too late that he was waiting for Spider-Man to stop moving, and when the kid finally stopped Barnes broke off and threw a giant sheet of metal at the kid.

Luckily Spider-Man managed to dodge in time, and Barnes hid behind a column. I saw what the kid was going to do and stepped back for him to have more room. "Hey buddy I think you lost this!" he yelled, and chucked the metal thing right back at Barnes who also barely dodged it.

I looked up to say something to the kid only to see him getting kicked down by Sam. The action angered me- did none of them see that he was just a kid?! I saw the spider ling throw out some web and swing out of Sam's way and he went up in the air above Sam. He shot a web out onto the jet pack part of the wings and Sam went crashing down into a kiosk and onto the floor.

I hurried over and got to Sam as the kid got him webbed up to the glass railing. "Sam!" I called out as I stopped in front of him. He took a minute to ignore the webbing on his hands and looked at me. He looked almost disgusted with me. "You can't do much but listen right now so please do," I said.

He hardened his expression and I could see how clenched his jaw was. "Why should I listen to you? You are the one who is fighting your friends. You're the one who decided to go against the people who have stuck by you the longest."

"Do you still believe I wanted all of this to happen? For fuck's sake Sam I wanted to be safe for once in my damn life!" I yelled at him. "For once in my god forsaken, miserable life I wanted to feel some sort of safety! I don't want to be a weapon and I don't want to be locked in a cell to rot. Signing the Accords gave me an option that was neither of those things.

"This fight was not what I wanted. I still don't want to fight you. Sam, you're right. You and almost every other person on Rogers' side has been close to me for nearly a year now and for that I am grateful," I said. I took in a breath that was deep and shaky. My voice came out as a mere whisper as I said, "If you got to know me during that time then you would understand why I have to do this."

He was quiet and so was I until Spider-Man swung over and landed on one of the weird columns to observe his 'catch'. "Those wings carbon fiber?" he asked, thankfully unaware of the tension he just came into.

Sam turned away from me and looked at his hands one more time then asked, "Is this stuff coming out of you?" With the way his mood changed, it was like we never had a conversation.

"That would explain the rigidity-flexibility ratio," Spider-Man continued, completely ignoring the question Sam asked. The kid kept going. "I gotta say, that's awesome, man."

Sam looked tired of this kid already. "I don't know if you've been in a fight before but there's usually not this much talking," he sasses to the kid.

The kid didn't seem bothered by the comment though. He responded, "All right, sorry. My bad." He got back into the fight and shot a web up to the ceiling and swung down on it, aiming to kick Sam and make him fall to the next level. At nearly the last second Barnes ran in the way and took the force of the kick.

However they both still went falling down to the ground. I had hurried to the edge as Spider-Man kicked them, so I had enough time to use some of my abilities to soften the blow enough so they wouldn't get seriously injured from the landing. Once on the ground, the kid had Sam webbed up completely and shot a web at Barnes' metal hand to keep him down.

"Guys look, I'd love to keep this up, but I've only got one job today and I gotta impress Mr. Stark, so, I'm really sorry." He put his hand out to shoot another web, but something grabbed onto it. "What?" he questioned, then got pulled off of where he was sitting and through another window before getting dropped on the ground. His yell made me flinch as I stood on the edge of the floor overlooking Barnes and Sam.

"You couldn't have done that earlier?"

"I hate you."

I leaned back over the edge and looked at the men webbed to the ground. Sam looked back up at me with a sort of challenging look. "So what now? Are you gonna bring us in?" he asked me. "Cause I can tell you now it will be difficult."

With a sigh I put my hand up to my ear and made a hard choice. "Stark," I said into the comms. "I've got Wilson and Barnes web-" I cut myself off with a scream as Sam's Redwing came back and picked me up by grabbing my metal arm and pulling me out the same spot the kid was thrown out of.

I was let go and landed on the ground hard. I rolled onto my side and groaned, letting out a few pain-filled sighs as I tried to get up. "You'd think they'd wait at least a week before dropping me on my back one more fucking time," I mumbled as I cautiously stood up.

My head pounded as I tried to get a good look around when a truck was suddenly in the air very close to me. I saw Rhodes trying to get out of the way as the truck hit the ground and exploded. Being close to the explosion, my body was shot back and I hit one of the terminal windows, breaking the glass and going all the way through.

Glass poked around at my face, the back of my neck, and the back of my head. I could feel a few places on my arms where previously shattered glass had torn the leather and new pieces of glass were cutting me. The feeling of blood dripping down my face and the blood starting to pool on the back of my head made me feel really weird and I started to sit up as carefully as I could.

"Man," I thought. "Doctor Cho is going to be so pissed off at me." My vision blurred when I started moving too quickly. The process was slow and the fighting continued on while I tried to recover. Behind me I could head some movement and realized that Barnes and Sam were there.

I moved my left leg and saw my ankle bent in a way that was very concerning. "That does not look natural," I observed out loud. I took a chance and used my metal hand to pop the bone back into place. With my abilities I could keep pressure off of it and fly around or walk with just a centimeter of air between my feet and the ground.

Finally after a minute of pure struggle, I was up on my feet and staggering only just a little bit. I didn't know how much of this either of the men saw, but I bet they certainly heard my struggles. "Three times in two fucking days. I never expected to be able to keep track of the amount of times I have fallen and landed right on my back. Cho is going to have a fucking field day with me," I (loudly) complained as I exited the terminal again.

As I walked out I saw Rhodes land a few feet away from me. "All right now I'm pissed." He looked over at me and took a step towards me. "You alright?" he asked me. I nodded slightly as I felt some of the cuts already start to close up, including the spot on the back of my head. Over to the left I saw Stark and Nat talking. They were probably talking over the comms but the ringing in my ears prevented me from focusing on what they were saying.

"Hey you don't look good. I don't think you can keep going," Rhodes said. I shook my head too quickly as I tried to let him know I was good and started to fall over. Rhodes was close enough that he only needed to step forward to catch me. "I'll tell Tony you need to sit out somewhere safe," he said.

I shook my head, carefully this time, and straightened up. "No. I'm not going to let them win, Rhodes. If I clock out now then you guys are losing some of the best competition you have against Wanda," I said. No, of course I didn't want to voluntarily fight her, but I was the only one on this side that was anywhere close to being equal to her power.

Rhodes looked really hesitant but I insisted. I looked up getting ready to fly when I saw Vision fly over and use his stone to create a beam of energy. Rhodes and I quickly got up in the air to see what was going on.

"Captain Rogers," he started. "I know you believe what you're doing is right." Stark and Nat landed right behind Vision, with me following in suit. We stood and faced the other side. "But for the collective good you must surrender now." Vision floated down gracefully to land on the ground. Rhodes came flying in carrying the King and the two landed on the sides. Spider-Man joined last by swinging in.

I watched the other side as they started to walk forward. Our group started to walk forward as well, and Nat beside me muttered, "This is gonna end well." We shared a small look of agreement and then looked back to see the others picking up their speed.

"They're not stopping," Spider-Man called out. We started into a jog as well, with Rhodes and Stark lifting off and starting to fly, then Vision followed right after.

"Neither are we," Stark responded with a coldness in his voice.

Finally we all broke into dead sprints at each other and I saw Wanda using her powers to lift off and fly, so I decided to as well to show her we were pretty evenly matched. In my peripheral vision I could see Sam starting to fly as well.

Then, we collided.

I was up against Wanda and we fought, not daring to speak to each other, otherwise our emotions would come out and it'd be too ugly. For me, I didn't fight to hurt, I just wanted her to back down. However, I couldn't say the same about her. We threw huge objects at each other and others who weren't on our respective sides. This was getting more personal by the minute. I stopped for just a moment to catch my breath and was nearly squashed to death by one of the trucks that pulls luggage carts around.

My head whipped around to face Wanda and I showed her my disbelief. "What the hell?!" I screamed at her, and got back into the fight.

Beside us I saw Nat and Clint fighting, and realized they were best friends to the point where they most likely considered each other family. Fighting each other was just as hard as it was for me to fight Wanda. And yet, we were bound by the Accords to bring them in.

"Wanda please just listen to me for a second!" I called out while evading the random shit she saw and threw at me. "I don't want to hurt you! You know I'm doing this because of the Accords, right?" Maybe she didn't understand that. Maybe she thought I was doing this 'for fun'.

It seemed she did understand why I was fighting though, because she didn't ease up or anything. In fact, it was like she threw things more frequently with a lot more strength. She threw a car at me which I was able to dodge, but quickly followed it up with something else that I couldn't dodge, and that took me flying across the concrete and right next to a plane.

I looked up to see her catching Nat's foot before she could kick Clint, and then throwing Nat away and into something. My face twisted up into sympathetic pain because that looked like it seriously hurt. With the aid of my abilities I got up and sort of flew over to Nat to check on her.

"Hey you alright?" I asked frantically. She nodded slowly and I offered a hand. After she moved her head around a bit she accepted my hand and I pulled her up to her feet. "I don't entirely like the direction this is going," I confessed to her. She showed me a look of agreement and we went back out to continue the fight.

Above me I saw an arrow fire and then split off, a distraction for Stark. There was an ulterior motive with that arrow, but I didn't have a way to help so I went off again and found the King and the Soldier fighting. I used some wisps to make King T'Challa's punch pack more power, sending Barnes into a box. He started to get up, and the King unleashed some claws to use. I was going to go in for help but I saw some red magic throw the King away from Barnes, and then was pushed back myself.

I was on the ground for a second trying to stop my vision from getting blurrier. My eyes just couldn't focus well, so I squeezed them shut and tried to clear my vision up. Beside me I saw the King come over and offer a hand.

"Looks like you could use a bit of help," he said. I gave a half smile and accepted the help. He pulled me up to my feet and I brushed myself off a bit.

"Thanks." We nodded to each other and then ran off to continue the fighting. I didn't know where I was going, so I opted to go towards the struggling kid that just came into my vision.

Spider-Man sat under a giant container like thing, struggling to hold it up, making me think he's been doing it for a while. "Hey kid! I'm gonna lift the container and then you're going to run out, alright?" I asked him. He nodded quickly and I moved my hands out to move the container off of him. As soon as his hands weren't touching it, Spider-Man ran out and to my side. When he was clear I dropped the container and turned to him. "Be careful next time, yeah?" I asked. I gave him a pat on the shoulder then ran off towards Stark.

I was running when out of nowhere, a very giant person just...appeared. It was the little guy who got Rogers' shield back earlier, but now he was fucking huge and literally holding Rhodes in his hand.

"What the hell?" I exclaimed as I backed away from the big guy. It was as if everyone collectively decided to pause and stare at this really weird sight. My eye lids blinked a million times a minute to see if I was dreaming, but this was very real. "I don't know how I feel about this," I muttered.

"Feel scared. That's what I've got going for me," a voice said over the comms, and I knew by the tone it was the kid. In all honesty I didn't blame him for being scared. I really was scared myself. This was not something I was ever prepared for. I don't think any of my past trainers even imagined a scenario like this.

As I stood there I saw Rogers and Barnes start running towards the hangar where a jet was. I didn't even hesitate before sprinting off after them. Clint came running towards me, so I started to fly up and follow the super-soldiers like that.

"Rey get down!" Rather than taking Nat's advice, I stupidly looked around to see what the problem was. I didn't see it though- no, I got hit with it. A piece of airplane was thrown at me by the Giant-Man. It took me out of the sky and I got thrown into another plane, then slid down the side and landed on the ground like a sack of potatoes. It was not my most graceful moment.

This time I couldn't dwell on my fall though, and quickly got up and started to fly towards the soldiers yet again. I was going faster than before and was getting so close when I was unceremoniously pulled from the sky. Letting out a small scream I was pulled to the ground and landed face first into the ground.

Wanda stood in front of me, trying to hold me back. "You won't win," she said. I looked up at her and couldn't find the girl I considered a sister. Instead, I found a girl I would normally consider an enemy.

"Wanda, please. This isn't about winning! This is about justice, safety, and being bound by the Accords," I pleaded. She wasn't the Wanda Maximoff I knew. "Everything would have gone smoother if you had just listened to Ross. To Stark."

She didn't respond and instead started to come after me by throwing crates at me. I barely had time to create a shield around me before getting pelted with wood and splinters. With my human hand up and holding the shield, I used my metal one to keep dragging my body backwards and away. I saw Stark flying over and gave Wanda a small smirk. She looked confused, but wasn't for long; he came up flying behind her and grabbed Wanda to put her somewhere else. I let down the shield and sighed in relief.

I stood up and climbed on top of a truck to survey what was happening. All around me chaos ensued and people fought others they considered to be friends. "This isn't right. This isn't the Avengers," I whispered.

The Giant-Man was rampaging on, shredding boxes with kicks and blocking missiles with containers laying around. I stood in my spot ready to fly up and attack, but his foot lifted and started to come down towards me. It was like he was going to squish me like I was some sort of bug. I jumped out of the way and let him crush what I was standing on. I flew up towards him and started to use a bit of my abilities to try and push him over if anything. He merely swatted me away like I was a bug yet again.

I have come to the conclusion that I feel bad for the bugs I have done this to during my lifetime.

Spider-Man was still on the giant, and crawled around on him as he tried to incapacitate the giant. Vision was the first person, however, to finally get anywhere close to doing that. He curled up into a ball and rammed himself into the giant, causing him to fall into a plane. Then he phased through him and went to stop Rogers and Barnes. It was then that I realized how close they actually were to the jet. Vision and the King were after them though, so I moved my attention to Sam who was casually flying straight for me.

I dodged him and started trying to pick things up to hit him. He flew up and around each box and piece of debris I threw at him.

"Hey guys, you ever see that really old movie? Empire Strikes Back?" Spider-Man asked over comms.

I rolled my eyes at his definition of 'really old'. Even I understood how it was old but not really old. My attention was spilt now, half on Sam and half on the conversation over comms.

"Jesus Tony, how old is this guy?" Rhodes asked. Again, even I figured out he was a kid.

"I don't know I didn't carbon-date him." I chuckled a bit at that and finally hit Sam with a giant wooden box. "He's on the young side," Tony continued.

"Well that's obvious," I retorted as I threw more shit Sam's way. At this point my little attempt at taking Sam down was more of a distraction so the kid could get on with his plan.

The kid finally went on to explain more. "You know that part where they're on the snow planet, with the walking thingies?" he asked. Jesus this kid didn't do too well with explaining things. I hadn't seen the movie yet so I was really confused with what he was talking about, opting to distract rather than participate.

"Maybe the kid's onto something," Stark remarked.

"I don't have any idea what you guys are talking about so I'll stay out of this," I commented while continuing to distract Sam. They needed to know I wasn't able to participate so they could figure it all out on their own.

"High now Tony. Go high," Rhodes instructed. I buried Sam under some random stuff and watched as the plan unfolded. Spider-Man had successfully swung a web around the Giant-Man's legs, making it tighter and tighter, and then Stark and Rhodes flew up and punched him in the face. The giant man fell backwards onto a plane.

Spider-Man went to celebrate but got knocked aside into a giant thing of wooden boxes, and then onto the ground. The giant man lifted his hand to press a button, then shrunk way down to a normal sized person.

I took in a deep breath and over to the side saw the jet lifting off and leaving. Inside I knew it had to be Rogers and Barnes. My instinct was to go after it but I knew I wouldn't be able to catch it.

Sam burst out from the pile of stuff I put on top of him and looked at the jet too. When he saw Rhodes going after it, he flew up quickly to stop the him for getting to the jet. Stark followed him and the three were flying after each other and the jet. Flares were being deployed and I watched them all fly further away.

"Vision! You copy?" Rhodes said. I already knew something was going to happen, and went off flying in that direction. I watched as a yellow beam cut through the air and went straight for Sam. He retracted his wings and rolled out of the way before it could hit him, and I was almost relieved, until I saw it hit Rhodes suit instead.

My eyes went wide and I screamed, "Rhodes!" I threw my right hand out and let the wisps extended faster than I could fly to try and catch Rhodes before he landed. That kind of landing would kill him and that's not what I wanted to see happen. I could see Stark turn around and rush down to stop Rhodes out of the corner of my vision, and it looked like Sam was too, but I focused on my abilities as they sliced through air and raced to save Rhodes. My heart was pounding, my eyes unblinking, my mind void of any thoughts but one: SAVE HIM.

I saw my wisps just barely miss him before he landed on the ground, dirt exploding up around him. "NO!" I shrieked. Stark was on the ground first, and hurried over to Rhodes while getting his own mask off, then Rhodes' to see if he was alive.

I was the second person on the ground, and I stood a couple feet away, trembling. This was my fault. I should've gone up and at least tried to stop Sam. I could've flown faster or had a quicker reaction time.

When I looked at Rhodes face, all I saw was a bleeding nose and closed eyes. I couldn't tell if he was alive. My hands went to my face to cover the crying and I dropped to my knees, unable to muster enough strength to keep standing. This was my fault.

"Read vitals," Stark directed as he paced a hand over where Rhodes' chest is under the suit.

"Heartbeat detected. Emergency medical is on its way," FRIDAY said loud enough for me to hear as well. I breathed a small sigh of relief, but the guilt stayed. This was my fault still. I could've done better than what I just did.

Sam was third on the ground, and as soon as he landed his wings retracted. "I'm sorry," he said in a low voice. Stark had a fury appear as soon as he heard the other's voice, and raised a hand to fire at Sam. He was thrown backwards and Stark just stayed there with his friend. I hadn't moved and continued to blame myself in my head.

Vision was fourth on the ground, and I figured he must've rushed over once he saw what happened. He went right past Sam and I and right over to Stark and Rhodes. There was guilt on his face too.

Stark paid attention to no one else, and instead breathed heavily as he stared straight ahead while holding his friend.

I offered to help carry Rhodes back over to the airport so the medical team could get him easier. Stark only nodded when I asked in a soft voice, and we both flew back over to the airport while I used my abilities to carry Rhodes. When we got there we landed on the ground and I looked to Stark.

"Where should I put him?" I asked, voice still very soft. It was crazy that he could still hear me with how quiet I was and how heavy his panicked breathing was.

He shook his head. "I-I don't know. I don't want to hurt him more," Stark stumbled out. I nodded and decided silently that I would continue to sort of hold him with my powers. When I had picked him up I made sure to pick him up in the exact position he was already in to avoid, like Stark said, hurting him more.

No one spoke as the ambulance got here first. In fact, a pathway had been cleared to make it easier for them to take Rhodes. When they got there the doctors were shouting in German to each other, and I took on the lead for language.

"Wo soll ich ihn hinlegen?" I asked.

The doctors looked at Rhodes then pulled the stretcher out and placed it pretty much right under him. "Genau hier ist perfekt," the female doctor told me. I nodded and gently placed Rhodes down on the stretcher. Once I ceased my powers the doctors loaded him up onto the ambulance. Stark followed them, having already taken off his Iron Man armor and storing it wherever it went.

The doors closed and the ambulance sped away with sirens blaring and lights flashing. I stood and stared in the direction it went, even after it was out of sight. The others had sort of awkwardly gathered around. Government prison transport cars were already rolling in, so it'd be stupid for anyone to run away now. I finally moved my gaze to try and look around for Nat but I couldn't find her. I saw Vision and the King from my side (Spider-Man had left a while back in order to keep himself safe by Stark's order), and there was Sam, Wanda, the little/big guy, and Clint from the other side, but no Nat.

I didn't ask however. I didn't want to speak to anyone. Usually I'd go to Wanda but things were very different now between us. I glanced over at her and saw her staring at me.

She must've read my mind because she suddenly said, "It's not your fault Rey."

I scoffed and rolled my eyes. "Really? How are you so sure?" I questioned her. She didn't respond.

A car door opened and I turned to face where the sound came from. I saw Secretary Ross step out of a sleek, black car and then close the door. Next to his car I saw two prison transport vehicles. Police officers came out of those and I stepped aside as they went for Rogers' allies.

"I didn't want it to be this way," I whispered as Wanda and Sam passed me. They both looked at me but I opted to stare at the ground while chewing on my right thumb nail with my left arm crossed over my stomach. The officers cuffed them and placed them into the transports, putting Wanda and Clint in the first one and the others in the second. I spared a quick glance towards Sam who looked at me with sorrow, which caused me to look away quickly.

I removed my nail from my mouth and started to walk over to King T'Challa and Vision since I had nothing else to do. Maybe I'd strike up a conversation, who knows? We could all bond over the depression that blanketed over us.

While I walked over though, someone came up behind me and stopped me in my tracks by grabbing my right arm. I turned around and looked at the officer in confusion. "Yes?" I asked him. He didn't say anything and started to pull out a pair of handcuffs that looked power-dampening. I pulled my hand out of his grip and shook my head. "I'm sorry there must be a mistake. I signed."

"Yes, but I have orders to take you in," he said, and grabbed my right arm again. He managed to get the cuff on one wrist before I could pull away and I could already feel my abilities drain from me, causing me to gasp with the sudden emptiness. I started to struggle against him and started pulling away. Other officers came up and helped the first officer in apprehending me.

"Wait on who's order?" I asked, fear seeping into my voice.

"Mine," a voice to my right said. I looked over and saw Secretary Ross walking over in a navy blue suit, his hands behind him and an evil looking smirk on his face.

My eyes narrowed at him and I tried to lunge forward at him, only to be stopped by the officers holding onto my arms. "Ross you two-faced snake! I was promised protection! I was told I'd be safe if I signed!" I screamed at him. Others were looking up now at the commotion I was stirring.

"This is protection," Ross responded. "Maybe not for you, but for everyone else." He shrugged and turned around to walk away.

Panic was rising in my chest as I started getting dragged over to the second transport. "No, no, no, no please! I-I can't go back in a cell please! There has to be a mistake!" I yelled out. I was desperate now, thrashing around and trying to break free. "Please don't put me in another cell! Please, I'm begging you!" My moving around was causing difficulty for the officers to the point where I saw one grab his gun, and he slammed the handle of it into my head.

Nothingness.
