Chapter Eight

Everyone was back on the jet, even though it seemed like we just got off of it. Well, we technically did. The entire team was here, including Doctor Banner who was kept very far away from me. I really wanted to have the chance to talk with him more about my abilities and if there was a way to get rid of them, but that conversation would clearly have to wait for a bit.

Again, I was restrained, the only difference this time being the promise of getting let out once we were descending to the ground. Captain Rogers was standing guard next to me on my left, Agent Lambert on my right. Wanda asked Captain Rogers if she could be next to me on either side, but he refused and said he didn't want me whispering things to her or something along those lines.

We were about 10 minutes from landing, so Captain Rogers and Agent Lambert started undoing my restraints. Wanda stood and grabbed something from above her seat, and when I was also able to stand, she handed the something- a bag -to me.

"This is something for you to wear on the field. There's also a sort of brace in there to go around your wound to ensure it doesn't slow you down or anything," she said. I nodded and she brought me back to a bathroom where I could change, and promised to wait outside the door for me. "The outfit was mine once. I hope to fits you," she said as I headed in to change.

The door closed and I pulled the outfit out. It was a short black dress, a red leather coat, and some socks. In the very bottom under the brace thing was a pair of black ankle boots. I believe Wanda showed me some and called them 'combat boots'. I changed into the outfit and was pleasantly surprised to see that it did in fact fit me nicely.

I knocked on the door to allow Wanda to move, then swung the door open to show off my new outfit. Wanda smiled (with teeth) and clapped her hands a bit. "Oh good it fits! I wore that during my first fight on the Avenger's side in Sokovia. Now that I have this," she gestured down to her current outfit, "I don't have a use for that. There was something in me, though, that made me keep it..." Something in her expression changed slightly, but she got rid of it and smiled normally at me again. "Shall we show you off? I know Nat will want to see."

I nodded and Wanda dragged me over to where Nat was currently standing. She was next to the previously mentioned Doctor Banner, talking in a hushed tone. "Nat!" Wanda grabbed the assassin's attention. Nat turned and saw my outfit, and gave a look of approval.

"Looks great," she said. I smiled brightly. "That's still my jacket though," Nat said to Wanda, and they both laughed.

"Oh do you want it back? I'm alright. If it's yours-"

"Nonsense, Rey. Keep it. It looks so much better on you than it did on me," she said, then took a step closer and leaned towards my ear to whisper. "And Wanda." She stepped back and we both laughed with a confused Wanda by our side.

The fun was interrupted by the Captain clearing his throat. If I'm being honest, I totally forgot other people were there. Captain Rogers didn't look the slightest bit amused at any of our antics. "We are about to land, and I need to make sure we've all got an understanding on what we're doing," he commented sternly, leaving no room for argument or negotiating.

I nodded and we all went through our roles. Mr. Stark, Wanda, and Doctor Banner/Hulk were to stay on the outside to ensure no reinforcements were coming and to make sure everyone stayed in; Captain Rogers, Hawkeye, and I were to enter in on one side to try and get to the command hub and pick up any enhanced; finally Nat and Falcon were going in on the other side to try and meet my group there.

Captain Rogers clearly made sure I stuck with him for a reason. This only made it harder for me to be useful because I wouldn't be able to use my metal arm really, and especially not my powers at all. Hawkeye I feel would be more lenient, but Captain Rogers would go insane. So, powers would stay out of this.

We all rushed to enter the building, ducking down as heavy fire rained on us. Mr. Stark blew up one canon while Wanda imploded the other. My group continued into the building and were met quickly with Hydra agents.

"Get back!" Hawkeye yelled at me, and he pushed me behind him as Captain Rogers and himself fought off the agents. Once they were out we stormed down the hallway and fought off agents that popped out of every room corridor. I tasked myself with looking into each room to either take out any more agents or to find any poor, used human beings like myself. Hawkeye caught onto what I was doing and helped by looking on one side of the halls. Captain Rogers just kept mowing people down.

We had been going strong, but it was inevitable: the fork in the road. "Stark, can you give us a sign as to where we need to go?" he asked through the comms. There was a muffled reply (I didn't have any sort of communication thing, so I couldn't really hear or talk. The other two's comms were just being picked up by my sensitive ears). "Wait what do you mean? There was a path through a room? Alright, backtracking now."

Turns out there was one of those secret passages inside of a previously passed room. When we found the one Captain Rogers went in, shield first, then Hawkeye, then me. It was a staircase leading up about thirteen steps, and then we just had to walk down a dark hallway. There were some rooms, but they were empty. Caution was still at the front of my mind, but confusion was making its way up there too. Where the hell was everybody?

I opened my mouth to speak when a hand came over my mouth and dragged me backwards. Shock had temporarily paralyzed me, so I couldn't make any noise to alert Hawkeye or Captain Rogers. The hand was obviously gloved, so licking or biting wouldn't be helpful. I sucked in a breath and got ready to just use my powers and get over it, but I got hit over the head with something very large before I could.

~~

Wanda was outside, throwing guards left and right, as well as destroying any sort of machine that got too close. Hulk was already taking care of the bigger ones farther away. There was a it of chatter on the comms, but Wanda ignored it and went back to fighting. It was Steve merely asking for directions around the maze of a building. The comms then went silent for a while.

When they sparked back up, it was the frantic voice of Clint. "Guys? Guys! We've got a situation!" he yelled over the comms. He must be fighting someone, becuase his voice was filled with lots of heaving breathing between words. "We can't find our newest recruit!" Wanda froze halfway through throwing someone.

Rey. She wasn't with them. Wanda's mind brought her to think- no. Rey wouldn't run away, especially not back into the waiting arms of her abusers. "She must've been kidnapped." Wanda said over the comms as she fought her way to an entrance to the building.

"Or she tried to escape. She said you had better odds here when you knew it like the back of your hand. She must know this place." Wanda had never wanted to fling Steve into a wall more in her life than today.

She shoved a Hydra agent hard into the concrete as she went inside the building. "Really Steve? Are you seriously going to look at the worst in people? She would never run back into her abuser's open arms. Hydra tortured her and manipulated her so much through her life, why would she want to go back?"

"Maybe because she realized she could just kill us and escape as the victim!" Tony yelled. He landed behind Wanda and stepped out of his suit. "FRIDAY, make sure Hulk stays in the area, and that this suit shoots anyone it doesn't recognize in the face." There was a confirmation from FRIDAY, and Tony joined Wanda in walking in the building.

"Mature, Tony. I swear to you she's not turning on us. She was probably kidnapped by a Hydra person. We need to find her. I won't leave this base until we do," Wanda said, not leaving anything up for arguing.

She and Tony continued into the building, and if any threats came Wanda was able to use her powers on them (Tony couldn't do much). The pair soon became a quartet when they found Steve and Clint lost inside the building. They all made their way around, finally coming into a gigantic room.

"Where the hell are we?" Clint asks as he searched for a light. Wanda was also looking, and jumped when the lights suddenly flicked on. "Wasn't me," Clint clarified. Nobody had found a switch. It was automatic or something.

Footsteps came down the hallway, and everyone already inside the room got ready to fire. It wasn't until they heard a "This place is too damn big" that they knew it was Sam and Nat. "I mean seriously, it's like the maze in Harry Potter and the- oh shit!" Sam jumped as he turned the corner into the room and saw the rest of the team there.

Nat followed with a gun drawn, only putting it down when she saw Steve's face. "We found you," Nat said, and she and Sam walked into the room. Suddenly, a door slammed shut and the Avengers saw the once open space now held a ver big steel door. "And it seems they did too."

Steve rushed over quickly to try and use his shield, but nothing was happening. Tony tried and tried again to get any sort of connection to his suit, but they were all too deep inside and most likely underground. That's when a wall opened up.

It was loud, and was a nails-on-a-chalkboard sort of sound. The wall that was to the right of the door had split into two, each half getting dragged backwards and disappearing. Now, there were TV like screens and some really technical stuff under them. Tony hurried over to them and tried to see if that's how the door would open back up. He went over and started messing with buttons.

"Tony what the hell are you doing!" Nat yelled as she ran over to the billionaire. "You could flood the whole room if you're not careful!"

"Relax, Red it's fine. I think I know what I'm doing-" An electric shock sent the man flying backwards into Nat and next Sam. They all tumbled to the ground and took a moment to recalibrate and get back up.

Steve ran over with Wanda to make sure they were all right. "Are you guys okay?" Wanda asked, checking the backs of Sam and Nat's heads to make sure there was no blood.

"Guys!" Clint drew attention back to the TV screens, but now they had something going on them. A live feed.

It was a nearly empty room, the only occupant being someone tied to a chair in the bottom right corner of the screens. Their head started to move slowly, then it shot upwards and looked around frantically. The screens came with sound too, Wanda noted when they started hearing their cries for help. It was disgusting to watch. But it got worse, because Nat noticed who it was.

"Shit guys that's Rey." It was silent then except for the continued cries for help coming from the screens; no one knew what to say in this situation. Wanda felt as if she was going to burst at any moment watching someone she was close to being tied in a chair.

There was movement on the screen, and another wall parted to allow many more people into the room. There was an old guy with white hair leading a large team of soldiers into the room. Rey's panic intensified at the sight of the older man.

"Welcome back Soldier." Was all the man said to start getting Rey fired up. She was moving in her chair frantically now, and more cries cam from her mouth. "Shall I see if you are still programmed?"

Steve, Sam, and Nat shared a look. Bucky was also programmed, and it's what turned him into the soldier. They all focused hard on the screens again, waiting for the moment Rey would have to turn into a monster.

The man started to speak French words, each one making his smirk grow bigger and bigger. Rey was getting more and more unsettled with each word, until she was basically writhing in the chair, clawing at her own skin if she could reach it.

"La défilé." That word caused everything to stop. Rey had stopped moving, and now hung her head in the seat.

It lifted slowly and she spoke: "Prêt à se conformer." The man smiled and nodded his head to a couple agents. They went over and untied Rey from the chair, and she stood as soon as she could.

Her gaze was fixated on the man, who said three words to get her started. "Tuez-nous tous."

It wasn't what anyone was expecting, but suddenly Rey went ballistic, and killed all of the Hydra agents in the room. That wasn't the part shocking everybody; it was how she killed everybody. She had powers, just like Wanda, except instead of red wisps she had orange-gold looking ones.

Strands of these wisps went and coiled around each Hydra agent, squeezing them until blood came pouring from any open place it could find- eyes, noses, mouths, ears- Wanda had to look away.

She finally dropped the dead agents and looked menacingly into the man in charge's eyes. He was expecting death, that was sure. Once Rey got a hold of him it was evident he wasn't truly ready for the pain of it. She squeezed him, hard. His gasps of pain could be heard but other than that there was no other noise. Finally, he stopped moving and fell to the ground limp, and that's when the control broke.

Everyone could see the physical difference in Rey once the control over her was broken. She looked around furiously, seeing the dead bodies around her, and how all evidence pointed at her as the killer. Her breaths became deeper and more panicked, and she dropped to her knees and screamed.

Wanda could hear the scream coming from somewhere in the building, and using every last ounce of strength, adrenaline, and anger she had, Wanda forced the door open and followed the sound.

~~

I knew this would happen. I ran right into the lion's den and look where it got me: surrounded by bodies. People that I killed. I didn't know what else to do, so I screamed and hoped that this was all just some sick, twisted nightmare.

"Rey!" I heard someone shout nearby. I sniffed and looked around, only to see Wanda come running down the corridor into the room of monsters and bodies; well, monster. "Oh god Rey!" Wanda exclaimed and she nearly fell down next to me and took me into her arms. That's where I lost any and all composure.

"I-I'm a m-m-monster!" I sobbed out. Instead of hugging Wanda back, I curled into myself as she wrapped her arms around me. "I killed all those people. I couldn't stop! I couldn't do anything about!" My words sounded like watery gibberish, but Wanda understood what I was saying. She let out a little 'shh' and rubbed my back as I cried into her. God, what would the others think? They'd walk in here and see all these horrific dead bodies and be scared of me. I couldn't blame them, though. I was scared of me.
