Introduction
A young boy and his young cousin climb onto the couch next to the boy's father. "Baba?" he asks, trying to get the man's attention.
"Yes, little ones?" the man says smiling down at his son and niece.
"Tell us stowy!" his niece says eagerly.
The man chuckles as his twin sister enters the room. She sits next to her brother and pulls her daughter onto her lap. "Which one?" she asks her nephew and daughter.
"The story of home," the boy says, and the girl nods.
The woman smiles at her brother and nods. The family settles into the couch as the man starts the story.
"Millions of years ago, a meteorite made of vibranium, the strongest substance in the universe, struck the continent of Africa, affecting the plant life around it. And when the time of men came, five tribes settled on it and called it Wakanda. The tribes lived in constant war with one another until a warrior shamen received a vision from the Panther Goddess Bast who led him to the heart-shaped herb, a plant that gave him superhuman strength, speed, and instincts. The warrior became king and the first Black Panther, the protector of Wakanda. Four tribes agreed to live under the king's rule but the Jabari Tribe isolated themselves in the mountains. The Wakandans used vibranium to develop technology more advanced than any other nation! But as Wakanda thrived, the world around it descended further into chaos. To keep vibranium safe, the Wakandans vowed to hide in plain sight, keeping the truth of their power from the outside world."
"And we still hide?" the boy asks.
"Yes," the woman says softly as the man nods.
The girl looks up at them. "Why?"
1996 - Oakland, California
Leanne, or Nia as she was more often called, watched her big cousin and his friends play basketball. She sat on the asphalt coloring with chalk. Even at two and a half, she could tell when her mom and uncles were busy, often leaving Eric to take care of her. She didn't know what they did, but her mom often told her that she was "helping the world". Nia's little mind didn't exactly know what that meant yet, so she was happily innocent. Even nine-year-old Eric knew little of what the adults truly did. Nia looked up at the stars to see a shimmery light in the sky. She watches it, fascinated. After a bit, Eric looks up also. He sees the light and stops, failing to catch the ball that was just thrown at him.
"Yo," his friend calls, before following his gaze. The children stare up in awe at what seems to be a spaceship, watching as it disappears. Feeling that something is wrong, Eric grabs Nia and they race upstairs. They find Nia's mother weeping over Eric's father who has panther claws in his chest. Eric stands there shocked before falling to his knees, cradling his father's head in his lap. Nia leans into her mother and cries, not sure what is going on except that her family is sad. The next thing she knows, their few belongings are packed, and they are leaving. They leave Eric with his mother, then go to the airport. Getting two one-way tickets to the opposite side of the country. New York.
Hey guys! Sarge here! I'm revamping True Identity entirely! Still the same characters and basic story, but I'm including Wakanda more! Yay! Hope you enjoy!
