TWENTY TWO.

Jasmine threw the hearts she held in her hand to the side and pulled out her phone as a notification alerted. She groaned when the screen became slippery because of the amount of blood she still had in her hands. Yelling out in success, she rolled her eyes when she noticed it was just Damon telling her to come back to the house, so they could both head over to the church.

Jasmine wasn't sure yet what to expect when Damon would finally figure out that Katerina was never in the tomb. Different scenarios ran through her mind, each ended with an angry and hurt Damon. She shook the thoughts away as she went inside the house, stopping when she heard the voice of the doppelganger.

"Then, we'll deal with it."

"I didn't let her compel you in Atlanta because we were having fun. I wanted it to be real." Damon let out a sigh as he pulled away from placing the necklace around Elena's neck, "I'm trusting you... don't make me regret it."

Jasmine simply and routinely rolled her eyes as Damon walked passed by her, "I am so not helping you when this bites you in the ass."

▪ ▪ ▪ ▪

The ride to the church and the walk through the woods was quite irritating for Jasmine because Elena chose that time to interrogate the vampires on anything she could think of and rant about everything that bothered her that day. For the quick day, the doppelganger sure had a lot to complain about. The three stopped when a dozen or so teenagers came into view, drinking and laughing.

"The Duke party. I forgot. I hope they stay clear of the church."

Jasmine let a smirk plaster on her lips as she looked at all the intoxicated teenagers, "believe me, doesn't matter where they are... they're not entirely safe out here."

Damon shook his head at her and chuckled, "your hope, Elena, not ours."

At that precise moment, when Jasmine's face was on full 'vampire mode,' Matt and Caroline decided to approach them with wide smiles. Matt immediately noticed the female raven haired vampire, who was quick to put her 'face' away, "Jasmine, hey! How are you?"

Jasmine took a step toward him, smirking, "hey, handsome. I am doing pleasantly well now that you've decided to grace me with your presence."

Blood quickly rushed towards his cheeks and neck as he blushed. He opened his mouth ready to reply when Caroline, infuriated, intertwined her fingers with his. She looked passed Jasmine and stared at Elena with fake enthusiasm, "Elena, where have you been?"

Jasmine stepped into her line of sight with a smile, "long story. We would like to explain, but the novel is currently being revised."

"I wasn't talking to you." The blonde's sneer was absolutely adorable to the ancient vampire. It reminded her of a puppy thinking its tougher than it looked.

"Sure you were."

Matt cleared his throat to try to change the subject as he looked at an impatient Damon, "we haven't met, I'm Matt."

Damon looked at his outstretched hand for a moment before disregarding it completely, "Matt, there's a reason we haven't met."

Laughing, Jasmine took another step closer to Matt, "oh, don't be rude, Damon. I mean, how can you be hostile towards a guy with eyes like his?"

Damon noticed their small exchange with a smirk. He looked at Matt as he shrugged, "she has a thing for blue eyes. We are going that way."

Damon grabbed Elena's arm and started to drag her away towards the church. Jasmine looks after them before turning back to face Caroline and Matt. Running her finger along Matt's neck, she slowly whispered, "I guess, we'll continue this later."

She slowly pulled away and smirked at Caroline, "it was good seeing you again, Caroline."

Jasmine let a small laugh escape her lips as she could practically hear Caroline fuming behind her.

"I guess so. Where's the book?"

Jasmine quickly sped towards them, book in the air, "right here. Let's get started, shall we?"

▪ ▪ ▪ ▪

Jasmine stood to the side, next to the Salvatores as they all watched Sheila prepare the spell. Sheila began lighting torches that they had set up one by one as she named each element.

"Air. Earth. Fire."

Bonnie took a step forward towards her grandmother as she held out a container, "water." Sheila takes the container with a small smile, then she began sprinkling it over the floor.

Elena looked around a bit confused before looking at her friend, "that's it? Just... water from the tap?"

"What were you expecting? Some holy water? Some type of rare liquid?" Jasmine scoffed out as the doppelganger glared at her.

"Yeah."

Sheila playfully smirked at Elena, clearly amused. Damon opened up his jacket and took out a blood bag, unraveling it. Stefan eyed it as he faced his brother, "what is that?"

"It's for Katherine. Gotta have something to get her going. Unless your girl's offering a vein to tap."

Jasmine looked at the brothers with a smirk, "kinky."

Damon laughed as Stefan rolled his eyes. Damon walked towards Stefan and whispered, "admit it- you can't wait to get rid of me."

Chuckling, Stefan shook his head, "I can't wait to get rid of you."

"We're ready."

Clapping her hands together, Jasmine gave them all a grim smile, "well, what are we waiting for?"

The two witches began looking through the grimoire before coming to a stop at the tomb spell. They held hands and began reciting the spell, word for word, getting lost in it.

"What are they saying?"

"Sounds Latin."

"I don't think it's Latin."

"Can you guys let them concentrate?" Jasmine moved away from them as she walked towards the other side of the tomb, still observing the two witches in the middle.

After a few more seconds of them reciting the spell, the torches around them flared up causing them to take a step backward.

"What's happening?"

The faintest sound of rubble falling made Jasmine and Damon look towards the door of the tomb, "it's opening."

When the tomb door completely opens enough for them to pass through, the Bennetts stop chanting and look up at them. Bonnie smiled wide when she noticed the door, "it worked!"

"Of course it worked."

Damon looked at his brother, eyes wide and wild, "we have some fires to build."

Stefan nodded and looked back at Elena, gently touching her shoulder, "I'm gonna go get the gasoline, I'll be right back."

Elena nodded and Stefan ascended the stairs. Damon walked over to Elena and held out his hand, expecting her to take it, "ready?"

Elena looked at him in confusion as the witches took a small step towards them, "what?"

"You think I'm gonna go in there by myself so you can seal me in?" He shook his head at the witches and turned back to Elena. He grabbed her hand and began pulling her towards the door.

Sheila quickly held her hand up, "don't take her in. I'll bring the walls down."

Jasmine decided it was time to intervene as she sped towards Damon and Elena, blocking Sheila's view of them, "please, you'll bring the walls down if he doesn't. We don't trust you." She turned towards Damon and gave him a nod. Damon began slowly inching towards the door again with Elena in tow, grabbing one of the torches on his way in.

Jasmine watched them go in and in the next second she was on the floor grabbing her head. Shots of pain ricocheted throughout her brain as the older Bennett witch gave her an aneurysm.

"I don't trust you either, vampire. If anything happens to Elena, I will make you suffer. Do you hear me?"

Jasmine threw her hand out in front of her and suddenly Sheila was holding her throat, gasping for air. Jasmine slowly rose from the ground with a huff. She used her free hand to dust herself off as she continued the small suffocation spell.

"Please, stop! Jasmine!" Bonnie cried out as she held onto her grandmother.

"I don't respond well to threats, Sheila. Plus, even if you could make me 'suffer,' just remember that the Bennett line could so very easily be broken, so I'd be careful on what I'd say or do next. Do we understand each other?"

Sheila gave her glare but nodded slightly. She inhaled deeply when Jasmine finally released the spell. Bonnie and Sheila held onto each other as they exchanged reassuring words. At that moment, Anna walked down the steps cautiously and began walking towards the tomb.

"Anna, what not a surprise. Hurry now, I bet your mother dearest can't wait to see you."

Anna nodded her head, grabbed a flashlight from the floor and ran inside, immediately searching for her mother. Bonnie looked at her grandmother with pure frustration, "why didn't we stop her?"

Sheila patted her granddaughter's hand and smiled, "because she isn't coming out, baby. None of them are."

"Excuse me?" Both witches immediately dropped their small smiles as they heard the angry words escape through the vampire's clenched teeth. Jasmine balled her hands into fists as she walked towards them, "for your sake, you better have a way to get them out."

Sheila, regaining her confidence, stepped in front of Bonnie and confronted the vampire, "there's nothing that we can—"

Her words were cut short as a gasp escaped both hers and Bonnie's lips. Jasmine had Bonnie in a tight grip as she slowly and painfully siphoned the magic out of her. Bonnie was screaming in pain as Sheila looked on in horror, never seeing such a thing happen before.

"Find a way or your granddaughter here loses not just her magic, but her life as well. I've told you already, Sheila, how disposable I can make her."

"Alright! Enough, please! I'll get them out."

Jasmine smirked as she dropped Bonnie to the ground, "that's more like it."

▪ ▪ ▪ ▪

Jasmine was sitting against the wall next to the tomb when Stefan rushed downstairs. He looked around frantically after realizing Elena wasn't in there, "where's Elena?"

"Damon took her inside."

"What?!" Stefan began walking fast towards the entrance until Jasmine jumped in front of him, stopping him.

"No can do, Stefan. You go in there and there's no coming back out."

"What do you mean?"

Jasmine sighed and gestured to the two Bennett witches who were standing there watching their small exchange, "well, the witch bitches decided to leave out the part that opening the tomb door didn't mean removing the seal on the tomb."

Stefan turned to look at Sheila, "what's the seal?"

"Some seals keep vampires from entering... this one keeps them from coming out." She shrugged as she turned to look back at her granddaughter, preparing her for the spell.

Stefan looked at Jasmine with a bit of sense of relief, "Elena's human, so she can leave."

"Anna can't. Damon can't, Stefan. No matter how many times the both of you fight, you can't tell me that you want your brother to stay sealed inside a tomb and leave him to slowly desiccate."

Before Stefan could respond, an ear piercing scream echoed throughout the place. In the next second, Stefan was speeding past Jasmine and into the tomb.

"Damn it, Stefan!"

Bonnie went to go chase after him, but Sheila grabbed her arm, pulling her back, "you can't just leave him in there, Grams!"

"He made his choice!"

Jasmine walked towards them both and pushed them together and back to the center of their makeshift circle, "now's the time to start lifting the spell, ladies."

Bonnie bent down to grab Emily's grimoire and placed it inside Sheila's hands, "here, just keep showing me what to do and I'll do it."

"We are not strong enough. Even if we were able to bring the seal down, there's no guarantee that we could get it back up again."

Jasmine ignored the rest of the conversation as she looked at the tomb door. Sure, the door was sealed by Bennett blood, but it was still magic. Siphoning could be an option, but if she did release the spell, then there was no telling what would happen afterwards. There was no telling if the desiccated vampires inside would be able to escape. There was no way to tell how much trouble those vampires would cause.

Jasmine held her hand up to the door. She could feel the magic radiating off of it. Before she could do what she does best, Elena ran out of them tomb, startling her.

"Elena, Stefan..."

Elena smiled at her concerned friend before pointing behind her, "he's right behind me, don't worry."

Stefan pushed himself against the small opening and stood there looking at everyone with a small frown. Elena walked up to him, worried, "Stefan, what are you doing?"

"It's gonna be okay. We'll fix it."

Elena furrowed her eyebrows, confused, still not getting the meaning of it, "what is it?"

"Lover boy here can't get out. The seal is still up which means that Stefan is stuck inside the tomb."

Elena looked at him with disbelief, "you went in there not knowing if you could come back out?"

Jasmine sent her a sarcastic smile, glancing between the two, "oh, he knew what he was doing."

"Oh my god." Elena took a step back as she tried to process the fact that her vampire boyfriend was now trapped inside a tomb full of desiccated vampires.

"I heard you scream." Stefan shrugged as if it was the most obvious choice he would have made.

"Yeah, you've got some lungs on you. Props." Elena rolled her eyes at Jasmine as she smirked at her.

Elena turned back to look at Stefan, a guilty expression plastered on her face, "we can't leave him in there. We promised him. Both of us."

"Even if we're able to break through the seal, we won't be able to hold it for long." Sheila interrupted. Stefan nodded as he ran back inside the tomb, immediately looking for Damon.

Jasmine slightly smirked as she looked at the door. She glanced inside and thought about all the vampires laying in there as she whispered, "don't worry, when we're done here... I'll make sure the seal stays down."

▪ ▪ ▪ ▪

Jasmine put her hand out to stop Elena's pacing as they both looked at the Bennett witches. They tightly held hands and were softly chanting the spell when the torches flared up once again around them.

"I think it's working." Jasmine rolled her eyes at Elena as she slowly walked back to the front of the tomb. Anna and a very weak Pearl slowly emerged from inside. Everyone looked at the two as they stopped walking.

"I just wanted my mother back. Jeremy's fine, he's outside. I won't touch him." With a small grateful smile thrown Jasmine's way, Anna and Pearl walked out of the church.

Distracted by their exit, Jasmine didn't notice the torches' flares beginning to falter until Sheila shouted, "Bonnie, keep going!" She looked at Elena with wide eyes as she worried for Bonnie, "they better hurry!"

Elena ran to the entrance and yelled into the tomb frantically, "Stefan, they can't hold it much longer!"

The torches then extinguish themselves. Bonnie looked faint and Sheila didn't look any better as they struggled to keep the spell going. Jasmine groaned as she stepped beside Elena, "Damon, you need to get out of there!"

When they received no response, Jasmine cursed the Salvatores inside her head and ran inside. She was quick to find them as she heard them yelling.

"How could she not be here?"

Stefan desperately held his hand out to his brother, "it's not worth spending all of eternity down here. She's not worth it!"

Angered, Damon pushed him away from him, "no!"

Jasmine quickly grabbed his arm, gently tugging at him with pleading eyes, "please, Damon. We can't stay here. I promise we'll figure out what happened, just please... come with me."

Damon sighed before allowing Jasmine to guide him out of the tomb. They all rushed to make it in time before the witches faltered. Stefan was quick to get out and once he did, the torches died out as both Sheila and Bonnie gasp for breath.

Damon was too lost in his thoughts and Elena and Stefan were too lost in their embrace to notice that Damon and Jasmine didn't make it out in time, so with a smirk, Jasmine placed her hand on the tomb door and siphoned the remaining magic that was there.

She tugged gently at Damon's arm and led him towards the entrance of the church. Everyone was too busy with themselves to realize that the seal was now broken.

Outside the church ruins, Elena took Sheila and Bonnie back to their house and Stefan offered to take Jeremy back to the Gilbert residence. Jasmine looked behind her to see a distraught Damon. She walked up to him and placed a hand on his shoulder, "I'm sorry, Damon."

Damon smiled at her sadly and then quickly changed his demeanor as a glare and scowl appeared, "I have to go do something. I'll see you at the house, Jas."

"Okay?" Jasmine shrugged her shoulders as she watched him speed away. Sighing to herself, she looked around until her eyes landed on a straggling teen who just so happened to have lost his way going home from a party full of drunk teenagers.

"This should be fun." Jasmine smirked as she began walking towards the loud music and horrid smell of marijuana and cheap alcohol.

▪ ▪ ▪ ▪

Knowing she couldn't exactly kill them all, Jasmine simply drank from each teenager that passed her and then healed and compelled them to forget. She spent a good hour dancing and feeding before heading back to the Salvatore house.

She found Stefan heading to his room and Damon lingering by the fireplace when she arrived. Deciding Damon needed her more at that moment than Stefan did, she walked up to Damon, who offered her his glass of bourbon.

"She knew."

"She knew what?"

Damon continued to stare at the fire with his fists clenched, "she knew where I was and she didn't care. All these years I spent waiting for her and now I find out that she was okay the whole time and didn't care about me!" He hit the wall and then clenched his hair in his fist.

Jasmine remained silent as he gathered his breathing. Once his breaths became soft inhales instead of angered puffs, he turned to face Jasmine. His eyes were dark, void of any emotion, but one.

Jasmine knew this look very well and she debated whether to give into it or not. He was hurt and distraught, surely she shouldn't fuel his need to fill his void. She should sit him down and talk to him, get him to let out all his frustration.

She took too long to decide on what to do because the next thing she knew, Damon sped towards her and connected his lips with hers. It wasn't gentle, she didn't expect it to be, but it was more needy than pure anger.

Well, in the end, she did help him let out his frustration that night.
