TWENTY SIX.
Jasmine groaned as she walked down the stairs and straight towards the kitchen with a frustrated Stefan trailing behind her. They had been arguing for the better half of the morning and it still has yet to come to an end. Stefan had told Jasmine that since she still looked to be high school age, she was to attend high school. Jasmine, obviously, found this absurd. She was a nine hundred year old vampire, for goodness sake, what could she possibly gain from attending classes about subjects she already knew like the back of her hand?
Apparently, Sheriff Forbes made it clear that if she didn't attend school, then the Salvatores would be in serious trouble as they took sole responsibility for her. Stefan didn't want the council's eyes fixated on them, so he spend the majority of the night convincing the raven haired vampire that it wouldn't be such a bad idea.
"I'd rather claw my eyes out, Stefan."
"Jasmine, it won't be so bad. Plus, I'll be with you the majority of your classes, so that's a good thing, right?" Stefan's eyes were pleading, but tired as they watched Jasmine's figure walk around the counter as she began fixing herself something to eat.
"Stefan, do you really think it's such a good idea to have a vampire who feeds from humans to attend a school full of humans? I'm just thinking of the future disaster I'm sure will happen." Jasmine's face scrunched up at the lack of edible food in the Salvatore household and opted to grabbing her keys to get a meal at the Grill.
Stefan sped in front of her and held his hands out, stopping her. Jasmine rolled her eyes and crossed her arms, but decided to listen to him, "alright, fine. I'll attend your stupid school, but don't expect me to be all Sally Sunshine about it."
Exhausted from the effort it took her to say yes, Stefan chuckled, "I wouldn't expect you to. You're already enrolled, so you just have to pick up your schedule and attend class."
Confusion filled her features as she looked at him, "how am I already enrolled? Doesn't a parent have to do that? Last time I checked my parents died... nine hundred years ago."
Stefan grabbed her hand and pulled her toward the door, already wanting to get to school as he noticed they were going to be late, "Damon put himself down as your guardian."
"Well, that's gross considering I've been sleeping with him."
The green eyed best friend let out a sound of agreement, "well, Sheriff Forbes did all the paperwork and we didn't exactly have time to compel the school faculty."
Damon emerged from behind them with a smug smile on his face, "have a good day at school, kids! Remember: don't kill the entire student body, Jasmine." He barely had time to dodge the broken chair leg as it hurled towards him, "rude."
----
It wasn't a surprise really, when Jasmine found herself wandering the halls alone while Stefan left to find his precious Elena. She received several looks from the students swarming the hallways as she confidently walked towards where she was certain her locker was located at. She heard the whispers and smirked at her heightened ego.
"She's not human, hell no. Not with a face like that. Damn."
"Babe, stop drooling. Can you please pay attention to me? Your boyfriend?"
"I heard she's living with the Salvatores."
"I heard she is a Salvatore."
"Their parents must be majorly hot to reproduce those three."
"I just want to get back to normal stuff like school and homework and here's a thought: fun."
Jasmine's smirk widened as she noticed the doppelganger leaning against a locker with the same number that was written on a piece of paper that Jasmine held in her hand. She walked up to her and cleared her throat. Elena's eyes widened, but immediately narrowed as she stared at her.
"Jasmine. What are you doing here?"
Smiling wide, Jasmine nudged her to the side and planted herself in front of the locker, "I go to school here, now. Tragic, I know."
Elena's mouth opened and closed as she glanced between her boyfriend and the girl who always seemed to rattle her. She shook her head and glared at Stefan, "why didn't you tell me?"
With an innocent smile, Jasmine looked at her best friend, eyes wide, "yes, Stefan. Why didn't you tell Elena that you practically begged me to attend this horrid school with you? She isn't one of the reasons this place is so unbearable, is it?"
Jasmine held in a laugh as she watched the blood boil under Elena's skin. Stefan placed a hand against his forehead as he sighed, "Jasmine, can you give Elena and I a moment, please?"
She didn't have a choice as Elena was already towing Stefan behind her. Jasmine shrugged her shoulders and made her way to her first class, a disinterested expression already settling upon her features.
----
Jasmine walked alongside Stefan, who was on the verge of laughing from her pointless complaining, "I don't understand how this is considered normal. Eight hours of school and only a forty minute break should be considered illegal. I didn't even have time to actually get food from the ridiculously long line in the cafeteria. Not that I cared because I already had a couple snacks in between classes."
"You can't feed from these people, Jas. We still don't know who's on vervain."
Jasmine rolled her eyes and entered the classroom, which happened to be history with Mr. Saltzman, "I like having to guess who I'm going to compel or kill."
Before Stefan could respond, a noise of surprise rang in their ears as Alaric dropped the chalk that was in his hand. His gaze lingered on Jasmine as she waltzed forward and sat right in the front of the classroom, in his direct eyesight.
Alaric composed himself quickly as he realized his students began whispering about his reaction towards the new girl. He gathered the students' attention and maneuvered it to Jasmine, who kept her smirk plastered on her lips.
"Class, as you can all see, we have a new student. Why don't you introduce yourself and say an interesting fact about yourself?"
Jasmine turned in her seat so she could address the class and smiled, "I'm Jasmine Saunders and as the majority of my species, I love history."
"Well, okay. Welcome."
----
To say she was relieved that the school day was over was an understatement. How people could endure this five times a week was unbelievable to her. As she was walking out of her last classroom, Jasmine felt a tap on her shoulder and turned around, smiling when she came face to face with beautiful blue eyes, "Matt Donovan."
"I thought school was too overrated? Why the sudden change of mind?" Matt's smile widened when she laughed.
"Oh, it is, but as the law doesn't give me much choice, here I am." Jasmine gave him a sarcastic smile before chuckling, "it isn't so bad now that you're here."
Matt blushed and shook his head, "your flirting is going to make my cheeks become permanently red."
"It's a lovely color on you, plus I like knowing I have some kind of effect on you."
Smirking, Matt slid his hands into his jeans' pockets, "more than you know."
Laughing, Jasmine leaned her back against the lockers causing Matt to take a step toward her. She didn't deny the fact that she felt attracted to him and knowing he felt the same way made it all the more fun. Sensing someone was staring at her, she looked around until she saw an angry blonde staring at them with her arms crossed, "seems like your ex-girlfriend isn't too fond of us talking."
Matt turned his head to glance at Caroline then faced Jasmine again, shrugging, "she doesn't get to be mad and frankly, I don't seem to care."
She stared at him with her bottom lip between her teeth before she stood straight, "what are you doing tonight?"
He widened his eyes, surprised of the sudden question, "tonight?"
"Yeah, how do you feel about dinner and a movie?" Jasmine noticed how Matt tried to hide his nervous fidgeting. He pulled the sides of his shirt as if it could go any lower and rocked back and forth on his feet. Jasmine looked to the ground with a small smile before looking at him, "unless you don't want to go then, forget I asked."
"No! I mean, I want to go. Really want to go, but... you make me nervous." Matt ran a hand down his face while he smiled, embarrassingly, "in a good way, believe me. Maybe we could go on a double date? So, you won't notice how awkward I actually am."
Feeling a weight being lifted off her shoulder, she smiled and nodded, "sounds good. We could ask Stefan and... Elena? If that's okay, I know you guys used to date, but Stefan's kind of my best friend, so he's the only person I'd feel comfortable with to bring along."
"No, yeah, that's fine. I'll see you tonight." He gave her a rushed hug as he sprinted away.
Chuckling, Jasmine made her way towards the exit of the school. She pulled her phone out and scrolled until she found Stefan's contact name.
Jasmine
Wear something pretty tonight, Stef. I'm taking you and, reluctantly, your girlfriend out tonight. Be ready by 7 and not a minute late!
Ripper
Not like I wanted a choice, but okay
Walking out of the school building, she stopped and lured a girl to follow her into her car. The girl complied willingly, wanting to befriend the new girl. She didn't know that once she closed the car door, she wasn't going to be the one opening it, rather Jasmine would when she carried her corpse out.
----
Voices were heard from inside the Boarding House as Jasmine pulled up into the driveway. She entered the house and was surprised to come face to face with a healthy looking Pearl and Annabelle, Damon standing not too far away from them.
"I kill them." Damon rushed towards Pearl and attempted to strangle her, but Pearl twisted his wrist and pushed him onto the floor.
"That was amazing." The three vampires turned to the amused heretic. Jasmine shrugged off her coat before walking towards them and taking a seat on the couch, "so, ladies, to what do we owe this surprisingly entertaining visit?"
Pearl cleared her throat and smoothed out her blazer, "just some business I wanted to take Damon upon. We've taken up residence at a farmhouse just outside of town. It'll suffice for now."
Damon sat down beside Jasmine, feeling more confident with the vampire sitting beside him, "all twenty five vampires?"
"Not all, some. I imagine that a few have already left town. Others are probably still in the woods or like us, acclimating."
Leaning forward, Damon pointedly looked at them, "how did they get out of the tomb?"
Sighing, Jasmine raised her hand and they all looked at her, "that was all me. So, you're welcome because now you have the vampire community you oh so desperately tried to keep in 1864."
Pearl nodded her head gratefully at her before turning her attention back on the Salvatore, "I understand from Anna that the founding families still have a secret council?"
Anna took a step forward and smirked, "and you're a part of it."
Damon shook his head lightly before leaning back on the couch, "that's ridiculous."
Anna scoffed and rolled her eyes, "I've been in Mystic Falls since the comet, Damon. I'm up to speed."
Pearl placed her hand on Anna's back and nodded, "and so am I. And now that you've infiltrated the council, I'll need to know everything they know. Starting with a list of names of all the council members and their families."
"And everyone you've supplied with vervain." Anna crossed her arms, feeling more outspoken now that her mother was by her side to protect her. It was the same feeling Damon felt when Jasmine entered the room while he was dealing with a potential threat.
"Yes, that will have to stop immediately."
Silence loomed over them until Jasmine let out a slow laugh, "I'm sorry, but am I hearing correctly?" She turned to face Damon with her eyebrows furrowed and a smirk on her lips, "did she just come into our home and demand us to give her information?"
Smirking, Damon nodded his head and looked at Pearl with his eyebrows raised, "sweet Jasmine, I think she just did. What exactly are you trying to achieve?"
Pearl attempted to keep her calm demeanor up while she felt she was being scrutinized under Jasmine's mocking glare, "Mystic Falls is our home. They took that from us. Our land, our home. It's time we rebuild."
"Pearl, you must know by now that information doesn't come for free. So, what are you going to give us exactly?" Jasmine stood from her seat and held her arms behind her, waiting.
"I know where to find Katherine. I know her patterns and how she thinks, it'll be easy."
Damon stood beside Jasmine and crossed his arms, "if I still wanted to find Katherine, I would've asked Jasmine to perform a locator spell on her. I have no desire to see Katherine ever again."
Deciding that Damon was easier to intimidate, Pearl focused on him, "finding Katherine was just a mere gesture of kindness, Damon, the rest is non-negotiable. Don't forget I have four hundred years on you, little boy." She walked towards him and began to raise her hands, intending to crush his eyes, "I'll rip you limb from limb without even blinking."
Angered, Jasmine grabbed her by the throat and threw her against the wall, causing the wood to splinter behind her, "and I have four hundred years on you. I suggest you get out of here before I rip your daughter in half and feed you her heart."
Pearl stood up quickly and sped out of the house with Annabelle on her arm. Damon turned to look at her with a smile, which turned into a frown when he noticed her annoyed expression, "seriously, Damon. How many times do I have to save your ass?"
Jasmine walked away from him as he shrugged, "I have a feeling it'll be a lot more later on."
