TWENTY EIGHT.

They finally pulled up onto the driveway and got out of his truck. They began walking towards Stefan and Elena with their hands stuffed inside their pockets and sneaking glances at one another. Stefan noticed their exchange with a small smile, happy that his best friend was entering this new area.

The green eyed vampire gestured towards his house and they all followed after. Jasmine could hear the small gasp Matt let out when he entered the home, not used to seeing something so grand.

"Home sweet home." Jasmine threw Matt a small smile before walking further into the living room.

"Man, I've always wanted to see the inside of this place."

Stefan let out an uncomfortable chuckle as he noticed his wonder gaze, "yeah... it's a bit much, I guess."

Nodding exaggeratedly, Matt did a full three sixty of the house, "yeah, my entire house could fit in here... like twice."

"Well, your home has more of a home feeling to it. Stefan's feels like you're visiting a museum." She smirked at Stefan, who rolled his eyes but agreed.

Elena rocked back and forth on her heels while letting out an uninterested breath, "so, I was told there was going to be a movie. What movie are we going to watch? I was thinking maybe the Made of Honor?" She looked at Stefan with hope filled eyes as she embraced him from his side.

"Sounds boring." Jasmine followed after a wide eyed Matt as he made his way over to Stefan's car collection.

"Whoa, these are great!"

Stefan eagerly got out of Elena's embrace when he noticed what Matt was talking about, "this is uh, a little hobby of mine."

Scoffing beside them, Jasmine nudged Stefan's side, "more like obsession."

She smiled at him when he gestured to the 1967 Chevy Impala that sat proudly at the top of his collection. She had got it for him when she made a roundtrip from New York. She never knew what drew her to it; maybe it was just the fact that when she saw it, the first thing that popped into her head was Stefan.

Stefan pulled her out of her thoughts when he nudged her back, "hey, I don't say anything about your various music piles and dress heaps, so don't go judging me on my collection."

Matt smiled at their interaction before cutting in, "I did the entire Mustang series when I was nine."

Surprised, Stefan took a step back, "you like cars?"

"It's an understatement."

Stefan smiled wide and patted Matt on the back, "come with me." The both of them walked towards the garage which held Stefan's prized possession.

Jasmine groaned and tilted her head back, "why are you going to show off a car that you don't even drive?"

----

Stefan opened the garage door and walked inside to pull off the tarp that lay on his car, "prepare yourself, my friend."

Matt's astonished face made Jasmine laugh. He looked like a kid in a candy store as he walked towards Stefan and his car, "wait, how do you have this?"

"Got passed down through the family." Stefan took in Matt's expression as he examined the car.

"Why don't you... I mean, why don't you drive it?"

Jasmine laughed and looked at an embarrassed Stefan, "because it doesn't run, does it?"

"Well, it would if you so kindly fixed it for me again." Stefan opened the front door and let Matt see the inside.

"Nope, I told you after the thousandth time that I wasn't going to keep fixing it up for you if you kept breaking it."

Matt looked out the window towards her, a look of surprise written on his face, "you know how to fix cars?"

Smirking, Jasmine nodded, "of course, especially if I want to keep that beauty in shape." She pointed over to her black 1980 Jeep. Matt shook his head in disbelief and smiled at her, happy that he was slowly getting to know her.

Stefan looked over at Matt and motioned him over to the engine, "want to come take a look at this for me?"

Matt nodded and quickly got out of the car and walked towards the back, "Elena, remember the old Camaro your dad used to have?"

Elena pushed past Jasmine and smiled at Matt, happy that someone was including her into the conversation, "of course."

Matt looked at Stefan with a proud smile on his face, "I built and rebuilt that engine twenty times."

While Stefan looked impressed, Elena shook her head a bit in disdain, "I never liked sports cars much; they're too hard to make out in."

Jasmine glanced over to see Stefan's expression fall, but quickly regain himself as he hardened his stare at the engine. He glanced over at Jasmine as he ran a hand through his hair, "it wasn't so bad."

Elena looked between both vampires before scoffing and turning towards the house, making her way inside. Jasmine held in an awkward cough as she stared amused at her best friend. Reluctantly, Jasmine followed after Elena, making Stefan smile.

Matt turned towards Stefan with a grimace, "I'm sorry, man."

Stefan waved his hand dismissively and looked back at the engine, "no, I'm sorry. You're obviously trying to start something with Jasmine and my comment sounded really douche-y." He sighed and then looked at Matt with sincerity in his eyes, "she's different when she's with you. Giddier, happier, I don't know, nicer, I suppose. Thank you."

Matt's cheeks reddened as he smiled and cleared his throat, "alright, let's take a look at this."

----

Elena paced in the living room, her fingers flying as she messaged her friends what happened. Jasmine quietly leaned against the couch and waited for her to notice her. When she did, Elena glared at her with disgust before shaking her head, "I don't want to talk to you."

Jasmine shrugged, "that makes two of us."

Elena let out an exasperated huff as she narrowed her eyes at the calm vampire, "why didn't Stefan tell me that the two of you used to date? I think I had a right to know if the best friend he is so adamant about keeping in his life, is also a girl he had feelings for."

Jasmine walked around the couch to sit on it and folded her hands on her crossed over legs, "seems like Stefan doesn't tell you a lot of things when I'm involved, but we didn't."

Elena stopped pacing to look at her in confusion, "but Stefan basically implied that you both did."

"No, he implied that we made out in a sports car, which we did. We had a few hot make out sessions over the century, but dated? No, the only time we ever did anything was when we were both high on blood binging." Jasmine let out a small sigh and got up to walk out of the house with Elena trailing behind her.

Elena grabbed her by the arm and turned her around to face her, "I don't care when it happened. Stop trying to rekindle whatever dead flame you thought you had with Stefan because he's my boyfriend."

Jasmine stared at where Elena's hand connected with her arm and looked up at her, "funny, I didn't necessarily get that vibe when you were drooling over his brother the other day." She harshly pulled her arm away from her grasp and turned to look at Stefan and Matt driving towards them.

They pulled up beside the two and hopped out of the car. Matt looked at Jasmine with a wide smile, "piece of cake!"

Stefan looked between his fake grinning best friend and his girlfriend who was glaring holes into said best friend's back. He sighed and looked over at Matt, "you know what, why don't you guys go ahead and take it for a spin?"

Without having to be told twice, Matt rushed over to the passenger side and opened the door, "Jasmine?"

Jasmine smiled and got into the Porsche. A barely-containing-his-excitement Matt rushed over to the driver's side and hopped in.

----

The drive was short, Matt didn't want to stay out too late or go out too far without Stefan's permission. He narrowed his eyes as he tried to remember the way back, "um, did I just pass the driveway?"

Jasmine looked ahead and shook her head, "no, you're fine. The pathway is just up ahead."

Instead of continuing down the path, Matt pulled the car to a stop and parked. He sighed and looked at her, "this is an amazing car." When he just received a nod in response, he tentatively reached out to grab her hand, holding it in his, "are you having a good time?" Jasmine looked at him confused, wondering if she gave off the vibe that she wasn't enjoying herself, which she wasn't as much, "I know I've been reminiscing with Elena; I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable."

Jasmine waved her hand dismissively and smiled bright at him, "don't worry about it, Matt. You and Elena have history and try as I might, that's something you can't just write off."

"Like you and Stefan?"

Silence filled the car as she glanced towards the floor and then back at him, "that's different. We... kissed a few times, we never actually dated. It was simply for experimental purposes."

Matt laughed and brought her hand to his lap, feeling more comfortable with her by the minute, "I hear you. So, how about after tonight we try to not focus on past relationships, but focus instead on this?" He raised her hand to his chest and she could feel his heart beating fast, which made her other hand clench into a fist, "I am here, not because I wanted to hang with Elena or see Stefan's house, but because I wanted to be here with you."

Jasmine tried to ignore the sudden hunger in her as she focused on his words instead of the beating under her hand. Matt wanted something with her and she wasn't sure if she could give that to him, but it's been so long since she had felt this way about anyone. The risk was too much, but she could feel her own personal desires winning out. Silently cursing herself for being like Stefan, she focused her eyes on his and how blue they were.

"I wanted this to go so smoothly tonight, so that maybe you'd think about doing it again. Just the two of us though because tonight wasn't exactly the ideal first date to go on." Matt laughed softly as he traced random patterns on the back of Jasmine's hand, "I want this to turn into something. I really do... if you want to, of course."

Sighing, Jasmine raised the hand that was clutched in Matt's hand up to his cheek, softly caressing it, "surprisingly, I do. You should know though, that I come with a ginormous heap of baggage with me. I'm going to be distant and I probably won't always be there, not exactly the ideal girlfriend, huh?"

Matt smiled at her and shrugged, "one step at a time."

"I can agree to that."

Jasmine slowly cupped his face in her hands as he moved closer to her. Slowly and ever so gently, feeling as if she might break him at any moment, Jasmine connected her lips with his. Matt immediately responded and attempted to get closer to her, but ended up bumping into the console. They pulled apart and laughed.

"You should be a bit more careful."

Matt shrugged and cupped her face, pulling her back into their position, "sorry, I was a bit eager." Then, he closed the distance between them once more.

----

The four of them walked into the Boarding House, but stopped when they noticed Damon and Kelly making out up against the wall. Elena scoffed out, Stefan groaned, Matt looked appalled, and Jasmine, well, she had a mixture of surprise and mild anger.

"Mom?!"

"Against the painting?!"

Stefan shook his head at her, urging her not to make this matter worse. Jasmine rolled her eyes, but nodded her head, figuring Matt didn't really want her commentary. Kelly noticed the four teenagers and immediately pushed Damon off of her.

"Oh my god, Matt! Oh my god." She was quick to grab her things and walk out the door, avoiding looking at her son.

A couple seconds passed by until Matt let out a sigh and looked at them, "I got to..." He looked at Jasmine, hoping she wouldn't be upset that he was bailing before the movie, but felt reassured when she threw him a smile.

"It's okay. Drive safe." She stepped forward and planted her lips onto his cheek that immediately reddened under her touch. Matt pulled away with a wide smile and headed to follow after his mother.

He returned as fast as he left and handed Stefan his keys back, "I forgot to give these back. Thanks, man." With another look towards Jasmine, he left.

They all stared after him, making sure he was able to get Kelly into his truck before turning to look at Damon with various expressions on their faces. Damon ignored them and walked towards the couch, sipping his glass of bourbon.

Stefan turned towards Elena and suggested she should get a ride home with Matt so he could deal with Damon. Elena, reluctantly, agreed and asked him to walk her to his truck. Jasmine turned to look at Damon before settling herself next to him.

"I don't want to hear it."

"Hear what? Damon, it's your life... you can screw whoever you want with their consent, of course. Okay, maybe it was a bit awkward that it was with the mother of the guy I was on a date with and we happened to walk in you two."

Jasmine was one to never judge who they hook up with. Some may say that it wasn't true when it came to them telling her that they're dating someone, but that was because from their hook ups, she knew what type of girls they were attracted to. Let's just say that the majority of those girls weren't exactly settling down material, not the ones she's met.

Stefan returned shortly after and gave Damon a hard glare. Damon let out an annoyed groan and rolled his eyes at his brother, "don't look at me like that."

"Are you crazy?"

Stefan walked towards him, causing Damon to stand, "save the lecture. Look-"

Their argument was interrupted when glass shattered everywhere from the window. They quickly looked to see a male vampire, who Jasmine knew as Frederick, and a female vampire, Frederick's girlfriend, Beth-Anne, jump into the house. Frederick immediately pounced on Stefan and stabbed him with a shard of glass, then proceeded to snap his neck. Damon pushed him off of Stefan and threw a punch at his face. Beth-Anne looked over to Jasmine and lunged at her, causing them to both fall onto the ground as they fought.

"Is this seriously happening right now?" Jasmine quickly got up as she noticed Damon losing to Frederick. Before Beth-Anne could attack her again, Jasmine flicked her wrist and a piece of the wooden railing flew into Beth-Anne's chest, killing her. Jasmine looks over to Damon and watches as he throws Frederick across the room. Frederick gets up to his feet, but looks over to Beth-Anne's corpse and flees.

Jasmine rushed over to Stefan's side and gently placed his head on her lap. She placed her hands on his temples as she whispered a small spell. A few seconds later, Stefan awoke with a gasp.

Damon looked at the broken window and ran a hand through his hair, "damn it."

Stefan stayed in his lying position and looked between the other two, "I remember them from 1864. They were in the tomb." Confusion was evident in his expressions as he tried to figure out how exactly the vampires could have escaped a sealed tomb.

"Yeah... about that." Stefan raised an eyebrow at Jasmine as she got up, ready to explain what she had done.
