THIRTY THREE.

With a skip in her step, Jasmine walked out of the Salvatore Boarding House—ignoring Damon's complaints about staying in—and headed to Mystic Falls High. She was well aware of the growing souvenirs that were settled in the backseat, which meant several more people had been forced to meet Death a little early, but she was sure no one would question it. She smiled once she saw Stefan's car and parked next to him, startling him and Elena.

"I thought you were staying in today?" Stefan asked as soon as she got out.

Jasmine slipped on her sunglasses and smirked at him, "no, you demanded I stay in, but I decided to take it as a suggestion. Before you give me a lecture, Lexi has already threatened to drag me by my hair if I even try to 'harm' any of the student body. I'd like to see her try."

She didn't miss the disgusted scoff Elena made, but chose to ignore it. Of course Elena was going to make sure her opinion was exclaimed, "well, if you're such a danger to society you should probably head home. It's bad enough that you're killing people, do you really want to put you being around a school full of people to chance? I mean, we all know you can't really control yourself."

Jasmine smirked at the sneering doppelganger and took a step forward towards her. She narrowed her eyes when Stefan stood in between them, making sure nothing would actually occur between them.

"What Elena means is maybe its best if you hung out with Damon today instead of pushing your limits." Stefan ignored Elena's eye rolling and gave Jasmine a reassuring smile.

"No can do, good looking. Damon said he had a meeting today with the sheriff. They're discussing something confidential, I don't know I grew bored the moment he said meeting."

Growing curious and naturally wanting more information, Elena stepped from behind Stefan and raised her eyebrows at Jasmine, "what are they going to talk about?"

Furrowing her eyebrows in disbelief, Jasmine scoffed, "I just said it's confidential. Honestly, Elena, you should really clean out your ears." Walking past them, she grabbed Stefan's hand and dragged him along, "come on, Stef, we don't want to be late to class."

Stefan held the bridge of his nose in exasperation as he noted he would probably have to keep the two apart from each other for the rest of the day.

----

History class was probably one of the most boring classes Jasmine had ever sat through, considering she already knew all there was to history having experiencing it first hand. Alaric stood in front of the classroom and leaned against the chalkboard, "this week we're gonna set aside our regular curriculum for a lesson in local history as we approach Founders' Day. Apparently the community leaders feel it's more important than World War 2, but hey what do I know?"

Before Jasmine could give a pitiful laugh, the door opened and revealed Bonnie Bennett, who had been who-knows-where since the tomb had been opened.

"Sorry I'm late." She gave a little nervous glance at Alaric before making her way to her seat, which now happened to be the seat in front of Jasmine.

"Well, it looks like we will be at full occupancy today. Welcome home, Bonnie."

Bonnie gave him a weak smile and then turned around to cast another smile at Elena. Stefan managed to get her attention and smiled at her as well, genuinely happy that she was back, but it soon turned into a frown when Bonnie made it obvious that she was ignoring him. Jasmine chuckled before leaning forward slightly.

"It's good to have you back, Bon-Bon. It was beginning to get a little dreary around here." She smiled when her voice made Bonnie go rigid.

----

The rest of the school day seemed to pass by in a blur as usual. Only this time, she had Stefan stuck to her hip wherever she went, it was suffocating. She knew he was worried and he should be, but that didn't stop her thoughts of wanting to strangle him every time he insisted he went along with her.

"So, Bon-Bon isn't too thrilled with you."

Sighing, Stefan fell in step with Jasmine, "I don't know what I did. I just sure hope I can get back in her good graces."

"Please, Bonnie will probably resent you for the rest of her life." When she noticed Stefan's confused expression, she went to further explain, "Bonnie doesn't like you anymore because technically you and Damon—and I suppose me as well—are responsible for her grandmother's death. If you guys hadn't pushed her into helping then her grandmother would still be sitting in her home, slowly letting age consume her.

"And let's not forget about the fact that the spell almost failed—oh, don't give me that look, I know it was my fault the spell in the end proved worthless—anyways, you're a walking reminder that her grandmother died for nothing."

As Stefan slunk away into his own thoughts, pondering if what Jasmine had said was true, Jasmine took it upon herself to take advantage of his distraction and slip away. When Stefan lifted his head up so he could share his own opinions, he was panic stricken when he noticed his best friend already in her car speeding away.

----

Fear had a different taste than ignorance. It was more like eating junk food rather than your every day meals. It was addictive and thoroughly satisfying. Which is why Jasmine had taken it upon herself to just silencing her victims instead of compelling them to be calm.

"Such a shame, really, I bet you can scream bloody murder if I let you."

The man in her arms struggled to push her back, clawing and hitting wherever he could, but he just couldn't get her to stop. His mind filled with memories he clung to as he felt his life slip away from him slowly.

Jasmine began to falter when she, too, began to wonder what he would be leaving behind. Would his significant other wonder where he was? Would they be destroyed when they get the call that their lover was found dead in an alleyway? Did he have any kids? Jasmine slowed down when she imagined two little kids calling out for their father, wondering why he wasn't home yet.

"Get out of my head!"

"No, Jasmine. If you kill him, there's no telling who would be distraught by it. You're better than this, I know you are. You have so much compassion, Jasmine, please don't throw it away for the need to feed. Where's the girl who would drop everything at the first sign that her friends were in trouble? Where's the girl that went far and beyond to make sure Stefan didn't feel an ounce of regret after he turned? You can believe whatever you want about yourself, Jasmine; that you're a bad person and that's all you'll ever be, but I know better. I know the real you. Just let me help you, please."

Lexi kept her distance, but she made sure to keep eye contact with Jasmine, who was now holding the man at arms length. Emotions ran high as the two vampires stared at each other, completely ignoring the man who was currently still bleeding out of his wound. Jasmine couldn't fathom why her friends continued to pester her. This was who she was; it's who she's always been. Just because they never saw the transition of her letting go, didn't mean that it was never there. On the wagon or off it, that's all her friends saw. They never once witnessed her conflict with herself as she either forced herself off the wagon or to keep a tight hold on it.

"I know I'm capable of being saved, Lexi. That doesn't mean I want to be."

Lexi closed her eyes as Jasmine twisted the man's neck quickly and push him onto the ground. Crouching down and fishing into his pockets, Jasmine refused eye contact with Lexi as she pulled out the man's wallet and stuffed it into her own pocket.

"The faster you guys realize that I know what's happening, the faster you guys will realize that this will all blow over."

"Will it though?"

Standing up and beginning to walk away from Lexi, Jasmine threw a smirk towards her, "one can hope."
