THIRTY SIX.
The question of the afternoon seemed to be:
"Have you guys seen Amber?" Elena scoped the area as Stefan rubbed her back comfortingly.
Lexi shook her head before glancing around and spotting Jasmine, who was sporting a smirk, obviously listening into their conversation, "but I think I may have an idea. Come on, Stefan."
The two walked over to Jasmine and discreetly stood in defensive stances to prevent her from escaping. The glint of mischief in Jasmine's eyes was proof enough that if they did dare to stop her, she wouldn't mind putting up a fight.
"How are you both enjoying the party? I have my money on Caroline, but that's probably because I overheard the judges talking."
"Where's Amber?"
Setting her glass down, she reached a hand to both their faces and softly caressed their cheeks, "I can show you what happened instead unless you want me to bluntly call out my interaction with the girl."
Stefan gripped her wrist and nodded, "just... just do it."
Suddenly a flood of memories that recently occurred projected into both of the vampires' minds. Not only could they see every move she made, they could feel every emotion Jasmine felt. The hunger, the lack of remorse, and the thrill of feeling her victims' bodies visibly shake in fear.
"My car is just right up here—watch your step there, big guy."
Jasmine kept a strong grip on Jeffrey as Amber followed behind them. Amber didn't seem to note the danger that would lie ahead, but how could she when this stranger had been nothing but kind to her? Jeffrey hadn't cared that he was being led to—who knows where—all that mattered in his hazed state was that two girls were willingly close to him.
The vampire opened the trunk to her car and gestured for Amber to step closer, "would you mind getting my bag from there? I have to stop by the Grill on the way home." Amber nodded politely and scavenged around the messy trunk as Jasmine forcibly turned the drunken teenager to face her, compelling him, "don't make a sound."
It was as if Stefan and Lexi were Jasmine as the hunger and thrill began to consume their own beings. Struggled as they might, Jasmine refused to let go of her grip on them.
All Jasmine could see was red as Amber returned with Jasmine's bag in hand. She thanked her politely as she settled Jeffrey into the backseat. Amber asked again if it was okay that she got a ride from her. Amber didn't want to intrude with her afternoon. Jasmine laughed and reassured the hand fidgeting girl that it was no trouble at all.
"Here, let me put your stuff in the backseat and you can just hop in front."
Blood invaded her nostrils and Jasmine immediately noted the scrape Jeffrey had on his knee which he might have gotten from one of the times she voluntarily let him stumble onto the floor. Once she settled into the driver's seat, Jasmine wasted no time in compelling Amber to not scream.
"It's funny, really, how easily humans can trust others by simply being kind. You know, most predators use that to their advantage. Kindness seems to be able to draw prey closer than simple intimidation. You would think people would have learned that from now with all these cases of human predators bombarding the news, but no—human instinct or rather stupidity shows receiving kindness means giving kindness."
Amber's eyes were wide with fear as Jasmine trailed a finger down her neck. Jeffrey groaned in the back and sat up, bringing himself closer to the two. Jasmine took that opportunity to grab him by the neck and dig her nails into him, drawing blood. Amber whimpered when Jasmine drew the blood on her fingers to her mouth.
"What are you?"
Jasmine rolled her eyes, "really? Not an inkling of an idea? The main hint being I drink blood."
Amber reached for the door handle and her breathing accelerated, "y-you're a vamp-p-pire."
"See, you're not as dimwitted as people make you out to be." The nine hundred year old vampire locked the doors before reaching towards her and biting into her neck.
Stefan and Lexi both gasped as they watched Amber struggle against Jasmine. She tried to push the vampire off until her hands fell limp and her head snapped to the side. The vampires continued to gasp for breath as Jasmine tightened her grip.
"It's incredible what magic can accomplish. It's like you can actually taste her blood, right? Feel the thrill of having her struggle under your grasp? Could you feel how dizzy it made me to drink the idiot's blood as it was tainted with alcohol?"
Finally, Jasmine released her grip and they both fell to their knees as they clutched their throats. Their faces transformed as they recalled the warm liquid rushing down their throats. Jasmine waited until the effects subsided before crouching down to their level.
"Don't worry, it won't make you go back onto your ripper binge. I just wanted you to both see how alluring the darkness can be. Also see how uncontrollable it has come to be because don't think I know about your little plan to tame me." She stood as her friends raised their heads to look at her, "a word of advice: make sure your plan is thoroughly laid out before you make impulsive decisions."
Jasmine then flashed them a smile before making her back to the dancing crowd. Damon approached Stefan and Lexi as they managed to stand steadily.
"What happened? You know what? It doesn't matter right now. Sheriff Forbes just told me they found two mangled bodies not more than five hundred feet away from here. There's a big fat chance that it's—"
"Amber and Jeffrey. Yeah, Jasmine just showed us how she killed them via memory." They all looked at each other with worry and simultaneously look at Jasmine, who was smiling and laughing with no care that she turned their world upside down by threatening their secret to come out.
