THIRTY SEVEN.
Jasmine ignored the cold glares that Damon kept sending her way. The risk of being exposed was far from her mind as all she wanted to do was have a good night's rest and deal with everything tomorrow. She wasn't sure if the Salvatores resented her being here recently, so the thought of moving on flittered through her mind.
Opening the door to the Salvatores' residence, both vampires let out a groan when they noticed Anna standing in the middle of the living room. Damon shut the front door with more force than usual to showcase his annoyance for the visitor.
"Alright now, this is getting weird."
Anna rolled her eyes, "we're here to talk."
Pearl emerged from the side, cautiously as she looked at the irritated heretic. Their last meeting didn't exactly go as Pearl had hoped; she had forgotten how devoted and protective Jasmine was to her Salvatores, something she wasn't going to forget about again.
"Not in the mood, today's been a no good, very bad day." Damon cast a glance towards Jasmine, who wore a small amused smirk.
Pearl ignored him and looked straight at Jasmine, "Annabelle tells me you're looking for something I took from Jonathon Gilbert."
"Not really, just wanted to know if you had it. It has no use to me." Jasmine walked passed them and settled herself onto the couch. Pearl, nonetheless, followed after her and handed her a small device. "What the hell is this?"
"Jonathon was passionate about his inventions. He confided in me that he had created a detection device meant to track down the town's vampire element."
Damon and Anna stood near them as they wanted to join in on the conversation, "but that was a pocket watch."
Agreeing, Pearl nodded towards him before returning her gaze to Jasmine, "that's what it turned out to be yes. But that's not what I stole. I discovered my mistake when I saw the watch in Jonathon's hand the night they took us, it's stile pointed at me."
Jasmine tossed the device to Damon, he caught it with a glare in her direction, "that must have sucked. Having the man you were smitten for turn you over to the town's mob."
"You can relate to Pappy Gilbert though can't you, Jasmine?" She was sure he would have let that go by now, but apparently not. Damon decided to examine the device instead of jabbing at Jasmine, "so, what's this?"
"I have no idea, but now it's yours."
"What's the catch?"
Pearl ushered Anna towards the door as she let out a sigh, "there is no catch. My daughter wants to stay here. I want to stay here. You refused to trust us and for good reason. Consider this an apology."
With no other words spoken, they both left leaving Damon to be stunned in surprise. Seeing as Damon was probably going to keep prodding the Gilbert device, she bid him goodnight before heading upstairs to get that good night's rest she thought about.
Jasmine woke up near noon the next day, which was odd for her since she had gotten accustomed to Lexi waking her up by nine. Shrugging her shoulders, she didn't give it much thought and headed to get ready for the day. Pots and pans moving about were heard from the kitchen as Jasmine headed downstairs.
"Morning, boys."
Damon and Stefan sent acknowledging nods her way instead of greeting her. The strange behavior was odd and uncharacteristic for them, but Jasmine thought they were still upset over the events of yesterday. The Salvatores were upset, but that wasn't the reason why they wouldn't converse with their best friend nor could they look her in the eye.
"Well, if the cold shoulder is what I'm in for today, I think I'm going to go get some carry out." Before Jasmine could head towards the door, Lexi burst into the house and pulled out a makeshift gun.
"Not so fast, Jas. I think you saw this coming sooner or later." Lexi pulled the trigger and three vervain filled darts come out. Anticipating it, Jasmine simply held up her hand and stopped them.
"Come on, Lex, it's not going to be that easy."
The Salvatores came into the room and pulled the trigger on their own weapons. With both of Jasmine's hands up to stop the vervain darts from lodging themselves into her torso, it gave the mysterious new person an advantage to shoot her from the side. Startled, Jasmine turned around swiftly to see Elena standing in the hallway with a triumphant smirk.
"I think it is going to be that easy." Jasmine wanted nothing more than to rip Elena's smirk off of her face and she intended to do that as she raised her hand again, but stopped when she realized her powers weren't working.
Letting out an impressed chuckle, Jasmine peered over at Lexi, "let me guess, that's where you were all night and afternoon? Getting these herbs?"
"Yeah, a witch owed me a favor, so I went to go meet him in Tennessee. I knew the vervain darts would distract you long enough for Elena to shoot you with the magic muting herbs."
The information reeled in Jasmine's mind as her own thoughts processed that she was magicless—but not powerless.
"I'll give you credit for that one, but you seem to forget that my powers come from my vampire state. You may have muted my magic, but you forgot to render me useless in the other department."
The Salvatores and Lexi realized their slight mistake as Jasmine sped over to stand behind Elena and held her throat in her hands, digging her nails into her neck. Elena dropped her weapon and tried to pull Jasmine's arm away as whimpers escaped her lips. Damon and Stefan took a step forward but stopped advancing when Jasmine raised her eyebrows.
"Jasmine, please."
"Look, we're sorry—just let her go, okay?"
Filled with rage, Jasmine pulled Elena impossibly closer to her, "I told you—I warned you what would happen if you tried to subdue me. I even gave you a heads up to make sure you had a well thought out plan, but this wasn't thought out and now I'm pissed."
Jasmine could feel the fear radiating off of Elena and the sudden desperation coming from Damon and Stefan. They've seen this side of her before—only once, but once was enough—and all they thought was that they sure did screw up this time.
"Jasmine, don't do anything rash, okay? We can talk this through." Lexi held her hands out and slowly tried to approach Jasmine.
"No, apparently we can't. So, why don't we do this my way, huh? Say goodbye to your precious doppelganger."
The three other vampires shouted after Jasmine as she sped out the door with Elena in tow. Lexi turned to see the pained expression on the Salvatores and guilt rose up in her.
"I-I'm sorry. I thought it was going to work. I-I didn't think—"
"Well, we can both agree on the last part." Damon sent her a cold glare before announcing that he was going to go looking for them.

"What are you going to do to me?"
"Can you shut up?" Jasmine huffed as she kept a firm grip on Elena's arm.
Elena furrowed her eyebrows when she recognized the street they turned onto. If Jasmine wanted to kill her, Elena was sure Jasmine wouldn't stoop as low to make her friends watch, but by the way Jasmine was acting she wouldn't put it past the vampire.
Jasmine stood in front of the small house and reluctantly knocked on the door. They waited a couple of minutes before the young witch opened the door with a puzzled expression.
"Jasmine? Elena? What's going on?"
"I need you to put a cloaking spell on us."
Bonnie leaned against the door frame and folded her arms, "why should I?" It was then that she decided to notice the vice grip Jasmine had on her friend, "get away from her."
"Perform the spell then."
Looking between the two, Bonnie sighed and nodded, "come in."
"Can't come in for tea and cookies, I'm in a bit of a rush, so if you will."
Bonnie rolled her eyes but went back inside to gather her supplies before reappearing in front of them. Chanting softly, Bonnie walked around them as they felt something like a very thin blanket covering them. Once it was down, Jasmine gave her a wide smile.
"Thanks, Bon, I appreciate it." Jasmine then turned around and continued to drag Elena behind her.
"You said you would let her go!"
"Technically, I did not." Jasmine turned back around and smirked, "also, since I know the Salvatores are going to come to you for help, here's insuring that you can't help." Pulling out Elena's weapon, Jasmine pulled the trigger and shot Bonnie's arm.
"What the hell did you do?" Elena didn't stop from struggling out of Jasmine's hold but she paused momentarily to watch Bonnie let out a howl of pain.
"Thanks to you, I muted her magic."
The wind whipped around them as Jasmine sped them away once more.
