THIRTY FIVE.

that's Jasmine's dress for the Miss Mystic Falls event :)

"So, what's the plan again?"

Jasmine groaned as she slipped on her dress, already having to recite the plan for the tenth time, "it's simple, really. We tell Annabelle that her mother has a stolen invention and should keep it because we don't want John to get a hold of it."

Damon swatted her hands away as she attempted to zip her dress up by herself and replaced her hands with his, "and we're going to be perfectly behaved civilians, right?"

"No promises."

"Jasmine, we can't have any more bodies piling up! You know that there's a man hunt two towns over for a serial killer? We can't have that here."

Having enough of the 'behave' lecture that she had already received for the third time that day, Jasmine slipped on her heels and made her way downstairs. She appreciated her friends trying to help her deal with her hunger, but she was growing tired of the repetition of it all. All she wanted was to let her inner demons out and not have anyone try to stop her.

"Do you think they'll have decent food at this shindig?"

"I don't know, but they better have an open bar because I'm not strong enough to endure this event whilst sober."

Damon grabbed Jasmine's hand with a wide grin and proceeded to help her into the car, taking off in the direction of the town.

"God, I can't remember the last time I went to one of these beauty pageants." Jasmine grabbed a glass of champagne as she observed everyone around her. "So, Stefan is supposed to be dancing at this thing, right? The boy says he loathes dancing but has no problem learning it just to appease his monster of a girlfriend."

"Is that jealousy I detect, sweet Jasmine?"

Scoffing, Jasmine grabbed another glass and wrapped her hand around the nape of Damon's neck, "please, if anyone is jealous here, it would be you. I mean, look how ravishing your girlfriend looks."

Damon turned to look at where Jasmine was pointing, only to see Elena at the top of the steps with her hair curled and dress in hand. The doppelganger, as if knowing someone was staring at her, looked at them and sent Damon a small smile before disappearing upstairs.

"Now, let's go find little Anna."

The party was under swing. Guests were laughing and talking while drinking. Kids were running around and having fun. Contestants were hyperventilating upstairs as they struggled to look the best they could. Jasmine took no time in locating Anna and approaching her.

"Don't you look gorgeous."

Anna turned to face her with a smile before letting out a small laugh, "thank you. You look beautiful, as always."

"Those heels look very uncomfortable. Now, tell me how nicely I clean up." Damon leaned in towards the girls with a smug grin.

Jasmine rolled her eyes before pushing his face away, "you look like hell, Damon. Don't make the girl lie to you."

Anna shook her head at the interaction and then replied to Damon's first statement, "sometimes you have to wear uncomfortable heels to blend in. I remember this event from 1864, I was supposed to enter before everything happened."

"Ah, nostalgia's a bitch."

"I'm sure you would have won by a landslide."

Damon looked puzzled as Anna let out another laugh, silently agreeing with Damon's disbelief, "I wouldn't have stood a chance if you entered."

Smiling in appreciation, Jasmine shook her head slightly, "beauty pageants weren't and still aren't my thing."

"So, what is it you want?"

Damon perked up at the mentioning of the reason they sought her out in the first place. He didn't mind the small chatter, but he figured it was best if he got out what he needed to say before the girls continued to compliment each other to death, "John Gilbert thinks your mom stole an artifact from Jonathan senior back in 1864."

"What are you, his errand boy?"

Damon rolled his eyes, "I don't know what it is but I don't want him to have it."

"I can ask her, but you know," Anna cast a glance towards Jasmine, who was beginning to scan the crowd for a weak link, "you've made it quite clear that you're not exactly friendly towards us, so why should I bother?"

As if he knew all the answers, Damon smirked, "because you want to stay in Mystic Falls and John Gilbert's in town, making that impossible. Find out where it is. He leaves and you can buy a welcome mat."

Jasmine tuned Damon's voice out as he droned on and on about the council and the precautions they all must make as she listened intently for someone who was making their way to be alone.

"Are you okay, Amber?"

"I hate being the center of attention. I get panic attacks."

Jasmine smiled slyly as she heard the girl shuffling upstairs as if she was gathering her belongings.

"Do you need some privacy so you can change?"

"Actually, I'm just-I'm gonna go get some air."

The door slammed behind her as she rushed downstairs and outside, inhaling deeply when she came in contact with the outdoor air. Jasmine turned to look at Damon who was still talking and patted his arm.

"Nice talk, Damon. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go fetch a drink."

Damon didn't have time to protest as Jasmine swiftly walked away from him. Jasmine made her way outside and instantly spotted a blonde girl who was wringing her hands together while collecting her breathing.

"Usually pacing doesn't really help calm your nerves."

The girl, Amber, turned quickly to see the raven haired heretic, "yeah, but I can't seem to figure out what else to do."

"Well, you can tell me what's wrong? Talking to a stranger usually helps."

Amber nodded and sat down on the steps, Jasmine soon following, "I don't know why I entered in the first place. I mean, it was all my mom could talk about, but I had to remind her that we weren't founding families so there was a huge chance I wouldn't be chosen to even be a candidate, but then I got the letter saying that I was picked and my mom was over the moon.

At first, I thought I entered because I wanted to, but I only entered because my mother wanted me to, but now my mom isn't around as much anymore and I have this sense of obligation to stay because maybe-just maybe, my mom will be happy and come back if I win. I-I don't know, it all seems silly."

"It isn't, really. I know someone who would do anything to keep his mother happy, but you know what? He stopped caring. He realized that she was never going to be the person he wanted her to be, so instead he learned to accept it and moved on with his life the best he could."

Amber nodded slowly, digesting Jasmine's words and the reality of it all, "do you think Mrs. Lockwood would be angry if I just left? I don't think I'm going to go through with this."

Jasmine sent her a warm smile, "I'm sure she would understand. Here, let me give you a lift back home."

"Thank you, that's very kind of you."

Jasmine helped Amber stand and together they walked towards Jasmine's car. They were stopped momentarily by a boozy teenager, who complained about being a fill in. Jasmine simply grabbed his arm and told him to follow them to get some fresh air. The teenagers obediently followed the vampire to her car where Jasmine would finally get her drink.

Lexi, Elena, Stefan, and Damon gathered upstairs as the doppelganger attempted to suggest the idea of locking Jasmine up again to the Salvatore brothers. They were all worried about their friend (apart from Elena), but they were also worried about their secret coming out. Jasmine hasn't been very discreet as of recently and she seemed to have a never ending thirst.

"So, you want to mummify Jasmine?"

Elena nodded her head and continued with her explanation, "we lock her up and we drain her. Lexi, I know you said you have your doubts about it working, but I'm sure we can figure something out. It helped Stefan overcome his urges; don't you all want the same for Jasmine?"

"Since when have you cared about Jasmine's well being?"

Elena glanced around the room as she hesitated, "she means a lot to you all, so she means something to me. So? Are we going to do it?"

Stefan and Damon looked at each other, both thinking they didn't want any harm to come to their best friend, but they couldn't deny her thirst was getting out of hand rapidly. They both sighed and agreed with Elena. The group turned to look at Lexi as she still hasn't put her input in.

"Are we going to forget the fact that Jasmine is half witch? Sure, we could subdue her with a ton of vervain, but that doesn't keep her from using her powers. Until we figure out a way to shut her down completely, I think we should leave the idea in the draft pile."

Before Elena could protest, Carol Lockwood walked into the room and informed her it was time for the line up then scolded Stefan for not being downstairs with the rest of the escorts. The vampires said their goodbyes to Elena before leaving her to get ready. Elena clenched her fists as her plan was once again pushed aside.

A small crowd formed on the bottom of the stairs as the Miss Mystic Falls candidates waited to be announced by Carol Lockwood. Upstairs Elena and Caroline were looking over the balcony as they discussed the disappearance of Amber and Caroline's partner, Jeffrey Lockwood Hamilton.

"He was supposed to be here twenty minutes ago. I don't understand where he could have gone. First, Matt refuses to be my escort then Tyler agrees but then says he can't make it... now, Jeffrey is a no show. Great... just great."

Elena attempted to comfort her, but Caroline kept pacing back and forth wondering where she was going to get a last minute escort. Downstairs, Lexi was listening in to the girls and decided to step in. Turning to face the Salvatore brothers, she took them aside.

"Caroline doesn't have a partner."

"And why should we care?" Damon released his arm from her grip as he scoffed.

Lexi pinched his arm causing him to let out a yelp, "you may not have a caring bone in your body, but I'm sure Stefan would like to help."

"Of course, why wouldn't hero hair want to help?"

Stefan rolled his eyes but agreed with Lexi, "I'll escort Caroline because we all know she would rather be humiliated than to be anywhere near Damon. So, as much as I hate to say this, Damon, will you escort Elena?"

With a smug grin, Damon shrugged his shoulders, "oh, I don't know, Stef. Dancing really isn't my thing."

"Damon."

"Alright, fine."

Lexi quickly walked up the steps to inform Carol about the switch up before rejoining the brothers downstairs, "okay, that's all settled. Now, can either of you tell me where Jasmine is?"

"I'm right here, love. No need to fret." Jasmine smiled warmly at them as she walked up behind them. The red on her lips was obviously not just from her lipstick and the three other vampires glanced at each other, the plan from before making its way to the front of their mind.

"Miss Caroline Forbes and her escort, Mister Stefan Salvatore." The crowd clapped as Caroline descended the stairs with a surprised smile on her face. Stefan politely smiled at her as he escorted her outside.

"Miss Elena Gilbert escorted by Mister Damon Salvatore." Elena looks confused, but forces a smile as she reaches Damon.

"What's going on?"

Damon continued to smile as he led her outside with the rest of the candidates, "we decided to do a selfless thing, Elena. Be happy that your boyfriend cared enough to not let your best friend be humiliated."

Jasmine followed Lexi outside as the crowd began dispersing, "did I miss something?"

"You mean while you were out feeding on inn-"

"I'm a vampire, Alexia. It's natural to feed on humans." Jasmine made her way to where a waiter was handing out more glasses of champagne. She paid no mind to the dancing candidates and their escorts as she continued to down each glass.

Lexi grabbed her arm as Jasmine went to reach for her fifth glass, "I think that's enough, Jasmine. You've been drinking since you woke up this morning."

Feeling her face slowly transform, Jasmine turned her face towards Lexi, "you either let me continue drinking or I won't stop the craving I have to drain every single person here." Lexi took a step back as Jasmine regained her control. Taking a deep breath, the heretic sent a smile towards her friend, "there, all better. It's best to let me do my own thing, Alexia. Wouldn't want anything bad to happen, now would we?"

As Jasmine enjoyed the rest of the champagne that the event offered, Lexi was already planning a journey to see a witch about muting one's magic. While everyone seemed to be enjoying the event, Sheriff Forbes and her team were patrolling the woods nearby when their canines followed the scent of blood.
