THIRTY EIGHT.

Panic seemed to make its home inside of Stefan's mind as the vampire paced up and down the hallway to figure out a way to get Elena back. Lexi was growing dizzy from watching Stefan until she finally stood up and stopped him.

"Making a hole in your floor isn't going to help her."

Stefan threw his arms in the air, exasperated, "what else am I supposed to do? I can't run after her because I'm sure the moment Jasmine sees me, she'll rip Elena's heart out! I-I don't know what to do. I can't lose Elena... I can't."

Lexi could finally see what Jasmine was talking—ranting—about when she saw how pain stricken Stefan looked at the thought of losing Elena. Jasmine was convinced they were merely obsessed with one another, but Lexi thought that they were simply in love. She'd be the same way if Lee was ever in a life or death situation, again.

"How long have we known Jasmine? How long have you known her?" Stefan sat across from her and shrugged his shoulders. "I've known her for about almost three centuries and never in that time has she ever actually killed someone we cared about."

"No, but she's come close. Damon told me what happened with Lee and what she did back in 1864—"

"And what do those have in common?" Lexi looked at him expectantly, but continued on when he didn't give her an answer, "she was protecting you. With Katherine, she knew of her plans to turn you both and Jasmine didn't want that for you, either of you. She thought by turning Katherine in would have prevented it, but apparently not."

"She didn't have to go to such measures. She could have talked to us about it! We would have listened."

"No you would have not! You were compelled, Stefan and Damon would bend over backwards for her. Do you really think you would have listened to her?" Lexi could vividly remember the anger that radiated off Jasmine's letters. She remembered how irritated the heretic would get when they would defend the doppelganger, that they were so ignorant to whom she was.

"I would have listened to Jasmine. You guys seem to forget how much she means to me."

"Sometimes feelings can't overpower compulsion, Stefan. Look, I'm sure Jasmine won't do anything rash. Have some faith."

"It's only going to hurt worse if you don't keep still!" Jasmine slammed Elena to the ground as the doppelganger continued to yell out in pain. Blood slowly flowed out from Elena's leg as she wiggled it back and forth, only opening the wound more. "If you don't stop moving, I will knock you out without magic."

With the threat of being punched, Elena kept still while whimpering softly. Jasmine rolled her eyes and knelt down beside her, looking at the wound. The reason that Elena looked fearful was because her leg was bleeding in front of a bloodthirsty vampire, who had already threatened her life.

"Can you please just do it quick? I'd rather not be soaked in blood around you." Elena let out a yelp when Jasmine dropped her leg back onto the ground.

"On second thought, why don't I just let you bleed out to death? Since you obviously don't have enough decency to be polite to the person who's taking a bear trap off of your foot."

The walk towards an abandoned house in the middle of the woods was hit with a small snag when Elena stepped on a forgotten bear trap. Jasmine had suggested to just ripping it off, but apparently Elena valued her foot. So for he next ten minutes, Jasmine attempted to gently pull it off—all while trying not to sink her teeth into her—but couldn't get close because Elena would let out a scream and would try to get away from her.

"Okay! I'm sorry. Can you please—just do it quick." Elena draped her arm over her mouth so she had her sweater to bite on. "Count to three or some—" She let out a bloodcurdling scream as Jasmine pulled the trap off. "What the hell?!"

"If I gave you a warning then you would have tried to back out, so this seemed like a simpler solution." Jasmine bit into her own wrist and shoved it into Elena's mouth before standing up and brushing dirt off of herself.

Jasmine still hadn't come up with a plan on what exactly she was going to do with the doppelganger. Maybe the suspense of her having Elena was enough to frighten her friends. She felt as if she needed to do something that would make the Salvatores and Lexi believe that she shouldn't be crossed, but what exactly, she didn't know... yet. Several people and ideas ran through her mind until she came across an old memory that put forward a plan.

"What now?" Elena continued to sit on the ground and wipe the blood that stained around her mouth.

"We try to create chaos. And I think I know just how." Jasmine pulled out her phone and began dialing a number she hadn't dialed in quite some time. By the third ring a raspy, sleep filled voice answered the voice causing Jasmine to scoff, "seriously, Jaminson? It's almost noon."

"M-Ms. Saunders! How c-can I help y-you?"

"There's a woman I want you to track down." Elena stood up from her position on the floor and took a step toward Jasmine, intrigued. "She's a vampire and has a tiny connection to this dreadful town—well, more so she has a connection with a couple people in town."

"Of course! I'll get right on it. I-Is there a name to the face?"

Looking right at Elena to gauge her reaction, Jasmine smirked, "as a matter of fact, there is. Her name is Isobel Flemming. I'll need that information by sundown."

"My mother? Is that how you're seriously going to cause 'chaos'?" Elena had been complaining for the past couple hours about the situation and Jasmine wasn't sure how much longer she could put up with the torture.

"Okay, you know what? Here's what's going to happen: you're going to help me do something that will distract me from your constant nagging, alright?" Jasmine stood up from the floor and rummaged through the cabinets of the abandoned house they managed to get to. Soon she found a case of old nails in the back of the bottom cupboard. "This is not sanitary, but it'll do."

Piling a small amount of nails into her hand, Jasmine walked towards Elena, "what are you going to do?"

"I need you to stick these into my wounds—"

"What wounds?"

"These—" Jasmine dropped the nails into Elena's hands before using her own nail to swipe down her forearm. Getting the gist of it, Elena placed the nail as makeshift stitches which prevented the wound from healing. "This will help get the herbs out of my system quicker. The faster it's out of my system, the faster I get my magic back."

"And what's going to happen once you get your magic back?"

Shrugging, Jasmine sat against the wall, "at this point, I'm just winging it. But don't worry I'm sure I'll come up with something riveting."

"Thank you, Bonnie, for trying."

Stefan walked back down the steps with Damon and Lexi beside him. They've checked the entirety of the town before going to Bonnie for help—who wasn't much help considering her magic was gone for the next twenty four hours. Their hope was dwindling and their instincts to protect the ones they love were making it abundantly harder to stay still.

"What now, Stefan? She's nowhere in town and the little witch was useless! There has to be something else!" Damon exclaimed as they walked through the threshold of their house.

"I don't know, Damon!"

Lexi was growing tired of their bickering and was sure that any second now she was going to rip into them. She paced back and forth—ironic considering she teased Stefan that morning for doing the exact same thing—trying to figure out Jasmine's next play. Lexi was sure that Jasmine wouldn't kill Elena considering how much the doppelganger meant to the Salvatore brothers, but she also knew Jasmine enough that she wouldn't put it pass the heretic to torture her.

"We've gone through every possible solution. What if they left town?"

"No, Jasmine wouldn't leave town just to kill Elena. I'm sure she would have generously wanted to be close so she could deliver her heart to our doorstep."

Stefan ran his hand through his hair, "can you please not put those kinds of images into my head?"

"Sorry, brother, but we have to prepare for the worst."

After thinking of Jasmine's previous outbursts, Lexi reluctantly agreed, "he's right, Stefan. At this point... we shouldn't have high hopes that Elena will come back in one piece."

Silence and serenity was broken by the loud laughter of Jasmine Saunders. "Wow, your life is actually pathetic. Well, your love life to be exact."

Elena rolled her eyes. A half an hour after Jasmine decided to drain herself, Jasmine decided to rip Elena's vervain necklace off of her. She had made her admit things that she wasn't ready to admit to anyone.

"You can't tell Stefan. Or Damon."

Jasmine began pulling the nails out of her skin, letting her wounds heal, "well, you better get your shit together or I will personally take you out of the picture if you hurt either one of them because of your pesky feelings."

"Like you took Katherine out of the picture? Yeah, Stefan told me what you did." Elena took pride in Stefan trusting her so much. She felt as if she finally had something with Stefan that Jasmine didn't. Little did she know...

"Yeah, I know. Stefan told me the day before he planned on telling you." Jasmine nearly vomited when a pout formed on Elena's lips. The characteristics she had similar to Katherine were frightening, which only made Jasmine fear that the outcome would be the same. It was why she was so weary around Elena—well, that and the fact that Elena always sneered when Jasmine was around because they had an awkward first meeting.

Elena huffed in the end and looked out the broken window, watching the sun begin to set, "the sun is setting. I don't think your lackey was succe—"

Jasmine's phone ringing interrupted them and with a smirk, she answered it, "Jaminson, do you have what I need?"

"Yes, Ms. Saunders. I'm texting you her number right now, but—"

"But what, Jaminson?"

"If you planned on asking her to go to MysticFalls, I don't think you have to."

Furrowing her eyebrows, Jasmine walked away from Elena's prying eyes, "what do you mean?"

"Well, the GPS  from her phone is signaling that she is on her way there now."

Hanging up, Jasmine turned to face Elena, who was growing irritated from being out of the loop. What Isobel was doing in town, she didn't know, but maybe... just maybe this could be the thing that may turn Elena's world upside down once more.

"What was that?"

Before Jasmine could answer sarcastically, her phone rang once again. Confusion filled her features as she noticed the number. Why would he be calling?

"What do you want?"

"I have some information that may shake you to the core."

Already growing tired of his smug tone, Jasmine rolled her eyes, "enlighten me then."

"Turns out the girl you sent me to find—Alexis—didn't just have a prophecy about the Mikaelsons. She had one of you, too."
