NINE.

Jasmine looked around at the career fair as she watched all the teenagers look at pamphlets that would, hopefully, help them decide what they wanted to do with their mortal lives. Stefan, of course, was no where to be found since he ditched her at the entrance. She came to the conclusion that Elena was a bad addition to her friendship with Stefan. She wanted Stefan to find true love, of course, but not if it meant having him write her off.

She spotted Elena talking with Matt and she sauntered over to them. The doppelganger rolled her eyes when she spotted the smirking vampire. She gave the Donovan boy a quick goodbye before quickly walking over to Jasmine.

"So, my guess is that you're not here to pave the path for your future." She maneuvered Jasmine towards the wall, out of people's way and hearing distance.

"Of course not. I'm on babysitter duty."

Elena scowled at the vampire, but her gaze softened at the thought of Stefan asking Jasmine to look out for her, "I didn't ask to be babysat."

"You're saying that like you had a choice in the matter," Jasmine walked over towards one of the booths before looking at Elena. Sighing, she placed a medical school pamphlet in the doppelganger's hand, "fun fact: Stefan wanted to become a doctor before everything happened. It's the thing I love most about him, his need to help those in need. It's infuriating at times, but I know that his heart is in the right place."

Confused, Elena furrowed her eyebrows and looked at the smiling vampire, "why are you telling me this?"

Jasmine tilted her head and shrugged, "I don't know. Just felt the need to," shaking her head, she looked back at the pamphlets on the table, "but Stefan couldn't become a doctor afterwards, obviously, but he moved on to dabble in different things."

Elena kept slowly walking, the vampire trailing behind her, "what? He didn't love one thing to stick to it?"

"He loved it all, but you know, we do have this thing where we don't age, so he had to move all the time. He made sure no one noticed that he wasn't aging." She tossed away a brochure that was handed to her, her interest in it was zero to none.

"How long before that would happen?" Elena also looked at the brochures with disinterest.

"Every few years, sometimes less. Depends, I guess." That's another reason why she didn't get too attached to people. She would just up and leave them without a hint of a goodbye.

"So, he would just leave? Just like that?"

Agitated, the vampire kept walking, "he didn't have a choice."

"Of course, he did. He does now. I'm not going to tell anyone what he is--"

"Elena, that doesn't matter. Other people would notice and next thing you know everyone in town is wondering why a brooding teenager looks exactly the same as he did when they graduated together all those years ago."

"Well, if he isn't going to be in my future like you're pointing out, then tell Stefan that if he's gonna leave then to just go." Elena crossed her arms and turned to face her aunt, who was coming towards them along with Stefan coming from the opposite side.

     "Hide me."

Concern was etched on the doppelganger's face, "what's going on?"

"The scum Fell has landed." Both humans rolled their eyes simultaneously as Elena let out a groan.

     "Logan's here."

Slight panic and confusion was shown on Stefan's face before he looked at them, "wait, Logan Fell?"

Tilting her head to the side, Jasmine was trying to figure out where she had heard the name before. By the time she realized it was the news reporter that Damon had killed, Stefan along with Elena and her aunt had went out into the hallway.

"Elena, why don't you and Jenna go somewhere else?"

Said girl nodded before tugging on her aunt's arm and dragging her behind her. Jasmine stood next to Stefan as she looked at the supposed dead man standing in front of her.

Stefan's expression was quick to turn serious as he looked at Logan, "what are you doing here?"

The former news reporter stepped closer to the Salvatore, not being intimidated at all, "You know, your brother asked me the same thing. In fact, why don't we skip past all that who-turned-me stuff and get the answer that I want? How can I turn into a daywalker?"

"Clap your hands three times and do the macarena," Jasmine scoffed out as Logan glared at her.

"The real answer." Jasmine laughed as the man attempted to look intimidating. Stefan stepped closer to Logan, his serious expression never wavering. "You being cagey on the how tells me that there is a way."

"Obviously, but that doesn't mean we're gonna give you the secret formula."

Logan smirked as he looked at the confident vampire, his sole attention on her instead of Stefan, "in case you haven't noticed, I'm quite the celebrity in town. It would be very, very easy for me to expose you."

"You wanna know how you can walk in the sun?"

The new vampire's smirk widened as he nodded, "I do."

Jasmine slowly took another step forward until her lips were close to his ear, whispering, very slowly, "You can't. Threaten us again and I'll jam my hand inside your chest and squeeze that pathetic little heart with my fingers."

She proceeded to push past him with Stefan following suit, "you handled that better than I expected."

"Well, we were in public, Stefan."

"That never used to stop you before." Jasmine smirked and looked at her best friend who was sporting a grin.

"Well, maybe I'm trying to turn over a new leaf."

Stefan wrapped his arm around her shoulder as they continued walking, "really?"

     "Oh, God, no."

Damon sounded out of breath when the duo called him. Turns out the vampire had an encounter with Logan Fell before they did.

"Logan Fell is a vampire. When I find him again, I'm going to destroy him limb by limb."

"What happened? Are you okay?" Stefan was leaning against the railing outside the school while Jasmine sat on top of it.

"No, I'm not okay. I was ambushed. I was shot. Now, I'm vengeful. Just gotta find him."

"He's here at the school, Damon. I guess the douchebag thought he would work the crowd right after he had a little fun with you." Jasmine's response wasn't meant to be humorous, but that's how it came off as since the girl was giggling at the fact that Damon was beat up by a newbie.

     "Well, I'll be right there."

A pair of footsteps were suddenly made aware and the giggling girl turned annoyed when she noticed the judgmental doppelganger headed their way.

Elena stood in front of Stefan, arms crossed, "so, anything you'd like to share?"

"Keep being judgmental and you'll never get rid of those wrinkles?" Jasmine hopped off the railing and stood beside Stefan, arms crossed as well.

"Elena, I can explain." Stefan's brooding face made a reappearance as Jasmine scoffed.

"No, Stefan. You don't owe her an explanation. Logan was a problem and he was dealt with."

The doppelganger looked at her furiously, "that doesn't mean he had to die! You have no remorse for killing people at all! You're a monster and maybe you should be dealt with."

Stefan was pushed back when he tried to step in between both girls. He knew there was a chance this might end badly and he needed to protect Elena. Stefan wasn't sure if Jasmine's restraint was intact at the moment.

"First of all, I didn't kill him, Damon did. Second, you're right, I am a monster, but I don't care. And finally, if Damon hadn't killed Logan, Stefan would've been dead right now. It isn't their fault that some other vampire fed Logan their blood which resulted in him turning. So, turn off the attitude and help Stefan find Logan before he hurts someone."

Stefan looked at her surprised and a bit proud. He wasn't sure what kind of year it was for her, whether she was on the wagon or off of it. Jasmine never showed restraint when it came to people like Elena. People who threatened her or implied that she wasn't meant to live. He's seen her ripped out a man's heart for the sole reason that he didn't apologize for accidentally spilling his drink on her. The mere fact that she was trying to show restraint for the girl that he loved, warmed his heart a bit.

The trio walked back into the school and began their search for Logan Fell. They came across Matt, who seemed to have a sullen look on his face.

"A face that gorgeous shouldn't have to be burdened with such sad emotion, Donovan." Matt grinned when he saw Jasmine and was about to add his own remark before Elena stood in front of him, causing the vampire to roll her eyes.

"Hey, Matt, have you seen Logan Fell, the news guy?"

Matt's sullen expression returned, "Yeah, he just gave Caroline a ride home." He sent a small smile towards the vampire before turning to leave.

"Stay here." Stefan grabbed Jasmine's hand and guided her outside.

"This guy is really pissing me off, Stefan." He noticed her clenched fists and the way she took her strides angrily. He knew at this point there was no stopping her, so he nodded.

"I know. Let's go find him."

▪▪▪▪

Jasmine and Stefan were quick to locate Logan and Caroline. The news reporter screeched his vehicle to a halt when Jasmine forcibly removed him from the moving car. He rolled on the pavement before trying to get up, only to get knocked back down when Damon showed up and shot him with the wooden bullets.

     "Payback's a bitch, isn't it?"

Damon looked towards Stefan and gestured to the unconscious blonde in the car, "get her out of here."

As he was doing what his brother told, a voice rang from a phone that was sitting in the passenger seat.

     "Logan, what happened?!"

Jasmine stalked towards the injured man and crouched down beside him. She jammed two fingers into one of the bullet wounds and pulled a bullet out. She smiled when she saw the blood coat the tips of her fingers.

"You know, this would've all went smoothly if you had just stayed dead the first time around."

She examined the bullet and then jammed it right back into his chest, slightly grazing his heart. Logan cried out in pain and began whimpering as she moved the bullet back and forth.

Before she could fully impale his heart, Damon put a hand on her shoulder, "wait."

He opened the trunk of Logan's car and took out a tire iron. He lifted it up as a batter would set up his position on the field, "let's try this one more time. Who turned you?"

Logan let out small gasps as he looked up at Damon, "I told you, I don't know."

"This tire iron here could take your head clean off. Is that your final answer?"

Logan propped himself up with his elbows as he looked Damon in the eyes, "how could you side with them?"

Damon held the tire iron up, ready to kill Logan, again, "I'm not siding with anyone. You pissed me off. I want you dead. Who turned you?"

"I don't know!" Logan glared up at Damon, his eyes not daring to glance at Jasmine.

The intimidating vampire sighed before crouching beside Logan once more, "well, he certainly isn't going anywhere, so let's try it my way, shall we?"

Jasmine sped and slammed Logan against his car. She held one hand against his throat and the other she rammed into his chest. His beating heart was warm and pulsating in her fingers. The feeling of having someone's life in her hands felt empowering to her. Oh, how she's missed it.

"Wait! I do know! I do know!"

Damon sped towards them, "you're lying."

Logan clutched onto Jasmine's hands before croaking out, "You think you're the only one who wants to get in that tomb underneath that old church?"

Damon's eyes turned into slits as he breathed heavily, "if you are lying, I will end you."

Logan’s eyes bulged out as Jasmine’s grip on his throat tightened, “I’m not—I’m not lying! There is another way to break the spell. We can help you. Meet me at the old church.”

Jasmine knew this information would stop Damon from helping her kill Logan. He wanted Logan dead, but he wanted Katherine more, “Damon, you better decide what you want to do now before I rip out his heart.”

Damon looked at her panicked and placed his hand on her shoulder, gently pulling her back, “I need to know, Jasmine.”

Their gazes locked, both trying to understand what the other was feeling. With a hesitant nod, Jasmine dropped Logan onto the floor. Her breathing was ragged and she couldn’t keep her gaze away from the blood that coated her hands. Jasmine knew the hunger was returning. Not a hunger for blood… a hunger for killing.

Soon, the sheriff’s police siren was heard and Damon turned towards Logan, “take me down. Make it look real. Make it look real!”

Logan quickly stood up and shoved Damon against the back of the car before speeding off. Jasmine stuffed her hands inside her jacket pockets before the sheriff climbed out of her car and ran towards them.

     “Where is she?”

“Oh, we’re okay, don’t worry. Thanks for your concern, sheriff.” Jasmine rolled her eyes and began to help Damon up from the floor with one hand.

Damon clutched his arm and looked at the sheriff with fake pain in his eyes, “she’s okay. My brother's taken her home. I’m sorry, Sheriff. I just wasn’t strong enough.”

All three of them stood on the side of the road looking around, wondering what was going to happen next.
