FOURTEEN.
Jasmine giggled as she ran through the forest, well aware of the two brothers chasing after her. It's been a couple days since the three of them were able to spend any time together. They were always off doing who knows what while Jasmine sat at home exaggeratedly bored. Moments like these always made the young girl wish she had siblings.
The two brothers had taken quite a quick liking to the girl. They loved her wittiness and her ability to perform magic, the youngest brother more so. He was always fascinated with the idea of it, but resented the fact he couldn't do it himself.
They continued to chase her towards the edge of the forest, but they walked instead to give her a bit of a lead. Jasmine didn't seem to notice, or else she would've stopped, that they were entering the most dangerous parts of the small village.
Laughter echoed throughout the small makeshift cottages and caught the attention of three men, who were gulping down the last remnants of the moonshine they had left. They turned to look at each other before walking towards the sound.
“Come now, boys. You haven't given up yet, have you?” Jasmine's smile widened when she noticed two silhouettes walking towards her, thinking it was her friends.
She halted once she noticed the two dark figures turn into three. She stopped in her tracks and slowly began walking back towards the woods. Her heartbeat was erratic and her breathing was shallow. Fear was evident in her being when one of the men grabbed her forearm and pulled her towards him.
“Now, who do we have here?” The man who held her spoke as he drunkenly caressed her hair.
Jasmine attempted to push the foul smelling man away from her but to no avail.
“Please, leave me be.”
The trio laughed as she squirmed and tried to get away from them. She searched the dark for her friends, but she didn't see anyone else. Tears flowed down her cheeks as the men put their grimy hands on her, slowly but roughly caressing her arms.
“It's okay, darling. We're going to make you feel real nice.”
Fear was replaced with anger as she turned to slap the man. He let out a yell before turning back to her, eyes ablaze.
“Get her, boys.”
Jasmine pushed down her fear and began to swing her fists towards the bastards. They continuously grabbed and pulled at her. They resorted to just grabbing what they could and tugging it towards them.
Jasmine fell to the floor as they continued to push her around. Grabbing whatever she could, she then hit them as hard as she could with what she found, which she later found out was a spear they used for hunting.
She wasted no time in sliding the sharp end across one of the men's throats. The other two became angrier and attempted to take the spear away from her. Jasmine yelled out when the man grabbed her hair and tugged on it with such force that the pain vibrated throughout her whole body.
Snickering was heard as she fell once more. A feeling she had never felt before engulfed her. She stood up and faced the two laughing males. Taking the spear into her hands, she slammed it against her knee causing the spear to break in two. With one final yell and adrenaline rushing through her veins, she took the sharp end of the spear and rammed it into one of the laughing men’s heart. The other end was then used to hit the remaining man down and be repeatedly slammed against his head.
Pleas and whimpers emitted from the man's lips, but Jasmine paid no mind as she continued to hit him until no sound nor breath escaped his lips.
Jasmine threw the stick to the ground and attempted to calm her rough breathing. The sound of a twig made her turn around quickly, ready to attack if need be.
“Don't worry, it's just us, darling.”
The brothers’ eyes widened when they saw her appearance. Blood and dirt covered her head to toe. Jasmine didn't hesitate to run towards them and embracing them as she screwed her eyes shut.
“They-y were g-going—”
The eldest brother held her tight as his little brother looked at the dead bodies scattering the floor.
“It's alright. Don't you fret, you did the right thing.”
Jasmine pulled away from him and grabbed both their hands, leading them back into the forest and away from the bodies.
“You must still be frightened. Come, we shall get you cleaned up and get—”
“I'm alright. Thank you.”
The brothers stopped to look at the young and once innocent girl. Where there should have been a frightened expression was a calm one with a smile adorning her lips.
“Jasmine.”
“Honest, I am alright. I don't know what it is, but something overwhelmed me when I did it. I don't know how to describe it, but it was—”
“Exhilarating?”
Jasmine widened her smile as she nodded.
“Enough of that now. You still have not officially caught me, which means our game has not finished yet.”
She giggled as she began running away from them, back into the depths of the forest where she always knew they would be safe.
The brothers looked at each other as smirks grazed their lips.
“She is not one of us yet and she has already got a knack for killing. I don't suppose our dear older brothers would approve, huh, Nik?”
Laughing, he began walking towards the direction the raven haired beauty went.
“I could always say it was your influence, so neither of them would waste their annoying lectures nor brooding glares on me. Hope you don't mind me feeding you to the wolves, Kol.”
Three different laughs echoed throughout the dark forest. It was the first time Jasmine had ever taken a life, but it wouldn't be the last.
