FORTY SIX.
Jasmine stood in front of the Lockwood mansion as she waited for someone to answer the door. She huffed when she raised her hand to knock a third time. Finally a figure stood behind the door and opened it.
"Jasmine?"
She smiled brightly as she saw Tyler adjusting his night shirt he put on seconds before answering the door, "Tyler, sorry to bother you all at this hour."
Tyler smiled and shook his head, waving his hand in dismissal, "don't worry about it. We just got in a couple minutes ago, anyways. What's up?"
Jasmine mentally cringed at the question, never really liking the wording, "is Mason here? I had something to ask him before he disappeared on me at the carnival."
Tyler's face slightly deflated as her reasoning for being there suddenly didn't revolve around him, "oh, you're here for Mason? Yeah, hold on. I-I'll send him right down. You can come inside and wait."
Jasmine smiled and thanked him before going inside to situate herself into the living room. It was rather inconvenient that she had to come all the way to the Lockwood mansion just to speak with Mason, but she had no other choice.
Her complaining thoughts came to a halt as she heard footsteps descending the stairs. She looked up at the same moment he reached the edge of the couch, "Jasmine Saunders. When you didn't come looking for me, I thought you might have forgotten about me."
"Unfortunately not. Sit, we have something to talk about."
A confused grin made its way onto Mason's lips as he sat beside Jasmine, "alright, what did you want to talk to me about?"
"I want you to hand over the moonstone."
Mason's grin faded as he narrowed his eyes, "I don't know what you're talking about."
"By the change of your expression and tone, I can easily tell that you do know. I know Katherine wants it for reasons, but I cannot let her get a hold of it." Mason turned to leave before Jasmine gripped his arm, tight, "we're not done yet."
"Kathy wants the moonstone for me, there's no way I'm letting you have it."
"And why exactly does she want it for you?"
"To free me of this damned curse."
Jasmine raised an eyebrow as her eyes filled with amusement, "you mean, you want to break the sun and the moon curse." When Mason nodded, Jasmine had to hold a hand over her mouth to stifle her laugh, "is that what she's had you believe?" She looked at his confused and frustrated face, obviously not knowing what she meant, "oh, you sweet idiotic wolf, there's no such thing as the sun and the moon curse."
Mason broke her hold and stood up, anger fuming from him, "you're lying! Kathy told me you were manipulative and a liar, so why should I believe you?"
Jasmine continued to smile in amusement as she, too, stood up, "believe what you want, I suppose, but you will give me the moonstone."
The werewolf scoffed as he looked at her as if she was crazy, "no, I won't. Your compulsion doesn't work on me. You can torture me or whatever all you want, but I won't hand over the moonstone when I find it."
She noted that fact: he didn't know where it was, so it could very well be in this house. Jasmine heard another pair of footsteps discreetly walking down the steps, trying to hear in on their conversation. She smirked at Mason, who continued to glare at her, "I may not be able to compel you nor would enough torture suffice, but I can hurt the people you love. People like Tyler, who is conveniently just a couple feet away from us."
Mason looked towards the stairs and saw the faint shadow of his nephew. He couldn't believe the woman standing in front of him could go from caring about a lost child to not hesitating to kill a young life. He made a promise to Katherine to find the moonstone for her, but with the vampire in front of him threatening his family... he didn't know what to do.
"Tell me, Mason, do you really want to see who can get to your nephew first?" She watched as his fists clenched and breathing hardened before he sighed in defeat.
"Once I find the moonstone... I'll give it to you. Just don't hurt him... please."
Jasmine smiled bright before tapping his shoulder roughly, "there was that so hard? I'll be coming to check in on your progress from now on. I'll know if you're lying so a word of advice? Don't lie to me." She began walking towards the door before looking up at the stairs, "goodnight, Tyler. See you in school!"
Once she stepped foot outside the house, she was overcome with a wave of pain and a raging headache. She groaned as she stumbled down the steps, eager to get home before she could collapse onto the floor—which was exactly what happened.

Louisiana, 1914
Waves crashed against the rocks that stood underneath the pair. They smiled contently at the view before them. Relishing in the feeling of being alone and having no troubles or worries clouding their minds. They had done everything to make sure the family didn't follow them.
It had been a while since they could steal a moment, but better late than never. Kol hummed in content as Jasmine sat in front of him with her back pressed against his chest. He placed a kiss on the back of her head before wrapping his arms around her, "it's peaceful out here. Just you and I. No siblings to ruin it. Perfect."
Jasmine smiled as Kol ran a hand through her hair, carefully avoiding the crown made out of flowers on top of her head. With a teasing smile, she turned to look at him, "we come out here to avoid your brothers and sister, yet here you are mentioning them."
"Okay, fine, I can take a hint. I promise not to bring it up anymore. I know how touchy the subject can be especially after..."
Jasmine frowned as she turned back to look at the water, "please, do not mention it. If you do, I'll just remember what you looked like in such a state and I do not want to remember you like that ever again." She turned her body to face him and held his hands, "promise me, Kol, to be careful. It took a long time before I was able to convince Niklaus to undagger you. Who knows how long it'll be next time? If he intends to release you next time."
Kol cupped her face with his hands and smiled, "I can make no such promises, my love. I am so close to finally making a weapon that can put Niklaus down, I cannot stop now."
"Then promise to let me help," she covered his mouth as he began to protest, "at least with me by your side you can have a slight upper hand. He won't suspect me, how could he? The young girl he has taken under his wing and would—has done—anything to make sure he's happy? How could she betray him?"
Kol's eyes brightened at the possibility of pulling one over Niklaus. He grabbed her hand and gently removed it from his mouth, "alright, darling, but the moment he suspects you or you sense danger, you get out, understood?" He brushed away a few strands of hair from her face, "he has already taken too much from me. I will not allow him to take you, too."
He stood up and then helped her up, taking her hand in his, "now, let's head back to New Orleans, shall we?"
—————
Weeks flew by and no progress had been made, which caused Kol to grow rather irritated. He had finally found a vital piece for his weapon—the paragon diamond. But unfortunately, Niklaus and Marcellus had caught him and confiscated the diamond before Kol could get it to their hideout.
They now stood in fancy attire as the Christmas party was in full swing around them. Kol leaned down to plant a kiss onto Jasmine's cheek as he softly whispered that he would be back. Jasmine sighed worriedly, knowing he was going to rummage through Niklaus' things to find the diamond.
After a couple of minutes, she saw Rebekah descend the stairs, heading towards her and looped her arm into hers, "Jasmine, did you see who my dear brother, Kol, had arrived with? Is everything okay between you two?"
"Of course everything is fine, Bekah. I'm sure that she is just a friend."
Rebekah smiled as she dragged her towards the witch that had accompanied Kol to the party, "you're here with my brother. A word of advice? A witch as lovely as you has no business dating Kol." Rebekah's smile widened when Jasmine gripped her arm, tightly.
The witch shook her head, amused, "oh, no, it's not a date at all. We're merely acquaintances." She leaned forward a bit with a smile, "besides, between the three of us, he isn't exactly the gender I am attracted to."
Rebekah nodded her head, satisfied with her answer, "good because he happens to be in love with my best friend, here."
Jasmine rolled her eyes before extending her hand towards the girl, "I'm Jasmine Saunders, it's nice to meet you."
The witch shook her hand and smiled lightly, "Jasmine... he talks an awful lot about you."
Rebekah giggled at the comment, looking at the raven haired vampire in admiration, "they are to be wed one day, finally making Jasmine my sister, officially."
Jasmine smiled warmly, "marriage does not have to diminish the fact that I already see you as a sister, Rebekah." She turned to the witch, who looked slightly solemn, "I apologize, I didn't get your name."
"Oh, it's—"
"Niklaus is calling for us, I believe he is giving a toast. Come, Jasmine. It was nice meeting you." Jasmine sent the witch an apologetic smile before letting Rebekah lead her to the stairs where Niklaus, Elijah, Marcel, and Kol stood, posing for a photograph.
Jasmine took her place beside Kol and leaned into him when he wrapped an arm around her waist. They all smiled as the photographer took another photo of the entire family. Niklaus then tapped a knife against his glass to get the party's attention.
"As you know, when the Mikaelsons arrived in Louisiana, we brought with us the tradition of holiday bonfire season. Now, we invite you chosen few to join us in our family's own tradition of writing wishes for each other and burning them for luck. The holidays are a time for celebrating family, and friends." Niklaus smiled up at Marcel before letting his gaze drift to Kol, who was beginning to grow suspicious.
"It is especially gratifying in times when treachery runs deep. To know you have someone you can trust. A toast, to you, my sister." Rebekah smiled bright at Niklaus as everyone raised their glasses higher.
"To Rebekah!"
Jasmine's heart began to race as she felt Kol stiffen beside her. She knew what was coming and knew she had to get Kol to safety. She grabbed hold of his hand and slowly began leading him up the stairs, keeping a smile plastered on her face to not raise suspicion towards herself. Before they could make their way further down the hall, Elijah blocked their path, his gaze intent on Kol.
"Excuse me, Elijah, but I have grown tired and wish to retire to my room. May you please move aside?" Jasmine put up a front of confusion as Elijah looked at her.
"I'm sorry, Jasmine, but I cannot let my brother pass."
They both turned to see Niklaus had blocked their path from behind. Jasmine frowned and held Kol's hand even more tightly, "what is going on, Elijah? Please, tell me."
Elijah didn't respond but simply grabbed Kol by his arms and pulled his jacket off as Niklaus addressed the party guests, "ladies and gentlemen, I apologize for the disturbance! But, what's a Mikaelson party without a little squabble?"
Niklaus pulled out a silver dagger and drew his arm back, ready to stab it into his brother's heart. But before he could, Jasmine stepped in between them, "no! Please, Nik! I implore you, please do not do this. Whatever he has done, I apologize for, but please, please do not take him away from me once more."
Everyone looked at the tear stricken girl ready to fight for the one she loves, holding their breath while they waited for Niklaus' move.
Jasmine looked ready to fall apart as she stood in between the brothers, "I do not think I can bear it if you take him away this time, Niklaus, please."
Niklaus lowered his arm and held out his other hand to caress Jasmine's face, "always so ready to defend us, my sweet flower. But I must do this. He has betrayed me and must be punished." Jasmine opened her mouth to tell him to punish her instead, to spare Kol, but her words caught in her throat as a shackle was quickly placed on her arms, muting her magic. "Marcel, Rebekah, grab her."
In the next second, Rebekah and Marcel held onto her tightly as she struggled against them, "please! Niklaus, I beg of you! I will do anything, but please, let him go!"
Kol looked towards Jasmine and gave a pitiful smile, "it's alright, love, I'll see you one day. I will always come back to you, that I can promise you."
Jasmine shook her head and glared at Niklaus, "if you do this, I will never forgive you! All of you! You will rue this day!"
Niklaus hesitated for a second before continuing and stabbing the dagger into Kol's heart. A stabbing pain filled Jasmine's chest the same moment the dagger impaled Kol, causing her to groan. Niklaus looked to the girl briefly, noticing that she did that every single time he daggered his brother, even if she was no where near him.
Her sobs caused the guests to grow solemn and retreat back to their homes, not wanting to witness anymore of the heartbreaking scene. Elijah picked up Kol's body and sped away to hide it, ensuring that Jasmine would not be able to find it. Marcel followed after Niklaus, who could no longer bear to be near Jasmine. Rebekah knelt down beside Jasmine, who was sobbing on the floor, and took off the shackle.
"There, there, sweet Jasmine. It's going to be alright. It had to be done."
Jasmine raised her hand and used her magic to push Rebekah away. The blonde looked up at her in surprise as she had never been one to receive such a reaction like that from the siphoner.
"You betrayed him. Your own brother! How could you?"
Rebekah stood up and hardened her stare, "If Kol had succeeded with what he was planning, it would have been dangerous to all of us. I know where my loyalties lie, where do yours?"
"It used to be with the family I have done nothing but love and help out in any way I could. My loyalty lay to the man I love and it will continue to do so. But this family, it is nothing more than toxic. I see that clearly now." Jasmine walked away from her and towards her bedroom.
Minutes passed by when Jasmine finally emerged from her bedroom, a suitcase in hand. The rest of the Mikaelsons stood up and watched as she stopped before them.
"So, what's going to happen now?" Rebekah spoke as her own eyes began to grow teary.
"Until you return Kol to me, I will no longer consider myself a part of this horrendous family." With that, Jasmine looked forward and began walking towards the entrance.
Niklaus grabbed a hold of her arm as she walked passed him, "you seem to forget how you've survived in this world, love! You will die out there without our help."
Enraged, Jasmine tore her arm away from his grasp, "and you seem to forget who is the main reason you are so powerful now. The reason why so many people fear you. It's because of me, Niklaus, it was always me who went out and killed people for you to ensure no one wanted to betray you! I would like to see how you survive without me." Jasmine continued to walk out the door, muttering a cloaking spell underneath her breath.
"I WILL FIND YOU, JASMINE, AND YOU WILL REGRET THE DAY I DO! I SWEAR IT! YOU NEED US!"
The air was chilly but she didn't mind as a sudden warmth began to flood her body. All her anger and sadness transforming to one simple thing: hunger. And a whole city to satiate her.

Mystic Falls, Present Day
Jasmine woke with a start as the memories of the dream lingered in her mind. She placed a hand over her chest as she remembered the feeling of utter pain she would be hit with whenever Kol was daggered. She didn't see it as anything more than the amount of love she had for him, obviously not knowing what it truly meant.
Last thing she remembered was conversing with Mason Lockwood before everything went dark.
She looked at her surroundings and towards her own being, seeing blood staining her clothes once more. Two days in a row. Sighing heavily, Jasmine rubbed her forehead as the headache slowly vanished. She noticed she wasn't at the house but rather in the middle of the forest. Specifically, a couple feet from the old tomb that is beneath Fell's church.
"Bloody hell."
She laid back against the crisp ground, not wanting to count nor see how many bodies were currently surrounding her, dead. Knowing she had to do something, she stood up and began gathering as many bodies as she could, putting them into a pile. Groaning and complaining about doing all the work, she flicked her hand to the side, causing the bodies to erupt in flames.
She scrunched her nose at the smell—she never did like the smell of burning flesh. Wiping her hands against her jeans, she pulled out her phone and dialed a number she wasn't sure why she kept. After three rings, a greeting was heard.
"To what do I owe this pleasure?"
Jasmine sighed, knowing she had to put her pride to the side so that she was able to work with her long time friend, "I need your help. How fast can you get here?"
