FIVE.

Walking back up the stairs, she pulled out her cell phone and made sure to check on Lexi. She knew she was safe and already settled in New York, but that didn't mean she didn't worry about her.

     Don't worry, I'm okay, J.

Groans were emitted as she bumped into someone. Looking up, she only rolled her eyes and stepped around him.

     "Good morning, Jasmine."

     "Morning, dickwad."

She proceeded to walk into Stefan's room and lounged on his bed as he continued to get ready.

"Today's the big day, Stef. You're gonna tell Elena that you have to stay away from her because it's in her best interest."

She looked at him skeptically, knowing he wouldn't be able to stay away from his beloved doppelganger for too long.

"Why do I get the sense that you don't believe me?"

He sat next to her and put on his shoes. Jasmine always knew what Stefan's true intentions were. Be it that he meant them, didn't mean he would break them. It's just who he was. He would say one thing, thinking it was the right thing to do, but his own selfishness made him back out on it at the last minute. This wasn't going to be any different.

"Come on, Stefan. Are you really gonna stay away from her?" He raised his eyebrows, not expecting her to doubt him, "you said you're in love with her. I bet the second she calls you in distress or whatever, you'll be there."

The young vampire sat up and contemplated if what she was saying was true. He'd like to believe that he'd keep his word.

Rolling her eyes, she got up and walked towards the door, "we're gonna be late, so let's go."

"I'd like to talk to Elena alone. I think it'd be better if I do it by myself." Stefan looked around, not sparing a glance at the smirking vampire. He didn't want to hurt her feelings, which he didn't, by making her think she was unwanted at that moment.

"I get it, Stefan. Text me when you're done. High schools reek of desperation." Laughter was heard as she walked away.

She's been to too many high schools in her lifetime. They were always the same and repetitive. Drama, cliques, stress, and people who tried to make it seem like they were the coolest kids in school even though their lives were pretty messed up, so they drowned themselves in parties, alcohol, and drugs. There were always a variety of people, which she loved. There wasn't a single person who was the same nor did they taste the same.

Still walking, she stopped when a blonde teenager blocked her path, "whoa there, hot shot. Watch where you're going."

He looked a bit dazed when he saw her. He couldn't believe his luck in finding her. She tilted her head, wondering where she had seen those blue eyes before, "Hey! It's you."

She looked at him and suddenly she recalled on why he looked familiar. He was talking to Stefan last night at the Grill about who knows what and she bumped into him before that. She smirked when she remembered the taste of his blood on her tongue.

"I'm Matt Donovan. I thought I'd never see you again."

She held out her hand and shook his, "finally get to put a name on that gorgeous face. I'm Jasmine."

He smiled at her wide and stood there, staring at her. She chuckled at the fact that the boy was obviously a little smitten by the vampire.

Noticing he was staring for too long, he scratched the back of his neck, "So, uh, are you new in town?"

"Yeah, just moved in yesterday. Didn't think I'd be staying, but a pair of old friends seemed to be needing my presence."

"Are you gonna start school here soon?"

Shaking her head rapidly, he laughed, "no, school is a bit overrated, don't you think?"

Nodding his head, he tightened his backpack straps and directed his head to the opposite direction, "I have to get home, but I hope I see you soon, yeah?"

"Of course, handsome." Winking, she continued to make her way around the school.

She didn't miss it. The sense of knowledge and friendship that filled the atmosphere. She always had to keep moving in fear someone might catch on to the never again vampire. Figuring it would be useless and just plain dumb to stay in one place just to make human friends who she would have to abandon, she stopped going to high school repeatedly and settle on just exploring each new world.

Her phone vibrated in her pocket and she took it out. Stefan was finished talking to Elena and said it was time to go. Sighing, she turned back around, only to stop when she heard the eldest Salvatore's voice. She didn't want to see him, but hearing what he was saying to the unknown voice made her quickly walk towards them.

"Even if I have to wait for Emily to give it to me herself." Damon had a girl almost pressed up against a car when she arrived. The girl stood her ground, but it was obvious that Damon scared her.

"Is there a problem here?" Both turned towards the new voice. Damon straightening out, and the girl took a step back away from the vampire.

"No. We're fine." He turned to go look back at the scared young girl, getting back to whatever he was doing before she interrupted.

"I wasn't talking to you." The young girl looks at the elder vampire and frantically nods, not wanting to cause a scene, "leave her alone, Damon."

Damon sighed and turned towards the annoyed vampire, "this isn't any of your b-"

Jasmine tilted her head as she focused on Damon. She used one of the most commonly used spells witches used on vampires. The annoying aneurysm spell. Damon fell to the ground and clutched his head.

     "I said leave... her... alone."

Damon let out a breath as she stopped. He hated fighting with her, but right now all she was doing was getting in the way. He got up and dusted himself off, turning towards his best friend, a scowl etched on his face. They stared at each other until finally Damon turned to the girl one last time, "next time Emily comes out to play... you tell her a deal's a deal."

The teenage girl watched her in amazement, "how did you-?"

     "Are you okay?"

     "Yes, I'm fine. Thank you."

Jasmine nodded and looked towards the amber crystal that hung around the girl's neck. She remembered the originator of the necklace and smiled, remembering her old friend.

"Nice necklace. You must be a Bennett."

"Yeah, I'm Bonnie. How did you know I was a Bennett?" Jasmine smiled kindly at the girl before gesturing to the jewelry.

"My great-great grandmother was friends with the lovely young lady who owned that necklace." Bonnie's eyes widened as she took in the information. If she knew of her great-great grandmother, did that mean she knew about her, too?

"So, our families knew each other?"

"Faintly, but yes. Now tell me, Bonnie Bennett, why does Damon want your necklace?"

"I don't know, but I'm not going to give it to him."

Nodding, she leaned back against the car behind her, "good."

"Thank you again, for getting him off my back." She smiled at the vampire and turned to walk to her car before Jasmine called out to her.

"Listen, Bonnie. If the necklace creeps you out... I can do something about it."

     "How did you--"

"I was kind of listening into your conversation."

Nodding, the Bennett witch looked at her, intrigued, "How would you do that?"

"I can ask Emily myself what her deal is." Her eyebrows furrowed as she looked at her. She didn't think it was possible, but then again, she didn't even believe in witches before and now look at her.

"I'll do a little witchy woo and try to see what Emily wants you to know. You can, of course, join in, if you'd like." Jasmine knew the girl was desperate to get the nightmares to stop so it wasn't a surprise when she nodded her head, "yeah? Okay."

     "How-how would this work?"

Jasmine stood up from her position and smiled at her, "don't worry about the details, all I ask is if I can hold onto it." Bonnie still didn't budge, causing the vampire to roll her eyes, "I'll still help you, Bonnie. And if you still want it afterwards, then I won't hesitate to return it, okay?"

Bonnie sighed and took off the necklace, placing it in her outstretched hand, "okay. Even though I'm positive I won't want it back."

     "Great, I'll meet you at-"

"I have a sleepover at Elena's tonight. Could we do it there?" Immediately shaking her head, the witch sighed, "then, no."

A smirk slowly made its way to Jasmine's lips, "then you'll have to deal with this yourself."

Bonnie hesitated before looking at her, "fine, where do we meet?"

"You're right, Elena's place. I wouldn't want to keep you from a fun night out with your friends, now would I?"

She turned around and headed back to where Stefan was currently still waiting for her, leaving a confused Bennett witch behind her.

She settled herself in Stefan's car and closed the door. Turning to face him, she raised an eyebrow, "yes?"

With an incredulous look he scoffed, "where were you? I was waiting for like ten whole minutes."

"Sorry, drama queen, I was dealing with something."

He raised his eyes brows, expecting her to further explain her whereabouts. Realizing he wasn't gonna get anywhere, he turned on his car and sped out of the dreadful high school parking lot.
