FIFTY ONE.
After a long awaited moment, Jasmine walked out of the car repair shop with her beloved jeep's keys. Not wanting to drag it out, she sped into her car and turned on the engine. The roar from the hood made the siphoner melt into her seat, a bit teary eyed if she's being honest from being gone from her car for so long. With everything spinning around her, cliché or not, Jasmine thrived in the familiarity of her jeep.
She pulled out of the parking lot and sped home, happy to finally not have to walk everywhere anymore.
Once Jasmine was home, she saw Alethea locking the front door. It was a rare occurrence when the red haired vampire would leave the house since she found comfort being with someone she knew. Jasmine's eyes furrowed as she grew confused and called out to her.
"Where are you heading off to?"
Alethea rummaged through her cross body bag—she was always misplacing things—as she answered her, "I have some business to tend to. I should be back around twilight, so we can only do one lesson today." With a sound of triumph, Alethea pulled out her cell phone and grinned at Jasmine, which then turned into scowling as she remembered what she laid on the kitchen counter for the siphoner, "I left some herbs from your makeshift garden that I know will help with the imbalance of your mind."
Alethea placed her hands on her hips at this moment and looked at Jasmine with a slight judgmental glare, "you haven't told me if you've been having mood swings—you know, bouts of happiness, sudden irritability, temporary amnesia, and remembering things that happened differently than you recalled. Things I should know about."
Jasmine scoffed and rolled her eyes. If anything was wrong, she would surely be quick to blame Alethea, but she thought everything was alright and slowly turning back to normal.
"You cannot down play your symptoms, Jasmine. It could lead to you snapping and if you snap or have a breakdown, not only will all progress be lost, but Jasmine, you could very well lose your mind."
"We're all a little crazy, aren't—"
Throwing her hands into the air, frustrated, Alethea groaned, "it's not just acting out of normal, Jasmine! It's hallucinations, permanent amnesia, and for vampires, humanity switches glitch catastrophically. I've seen it happen."
Seeing how riled up she was, Jasmine walked up to her and placed her hand on her shoulder, "I hear your warning and I will take it into account, I promise. Now, head off and have a nice day. Ring me when you're back and I'll be here."
Alethea was reluctant to leave but she knew she couldn't keep Tristan De Martel waiting for too long, so with a defeated sigh, Alethea sped off.
----
The only reason Jasmine was standing in worn out leggings and a very wrinkled shirt among the rest of the people of MysticFalls was because of Mason's curiosity. She saw his breath of relief when she denied coming here and she wouldn't be Jasmine if she didn't do the opposite of what she said to figure out what he has planned. Carol Lockwood, the new mayor, walked up to the front of the crowd and began speaking.
"This is all part of the historical society, continuing efforts to give back to the community. Thanks to the generous donation of the Fell family, we are now standing on the sight of our newest public park. Thank you to everyone who has shown up today to lend a helping hand. Thanks."
Everyone clapped and began to give each other instructions on what to do and who to help. Jasmine walked around pretending to do small things here and there so that no one would disturb her when she heard a call of her name. Not really a call, more like somebody using her name in a conversation. So, with her interest suddenly piqued, Jasmine made her wait to where the cars were parked and noticed Mason with Stefan behind Mason's truck.
"Tell your brother to watch his back."
Stefan grabbed Mason's arm before he tried to leave and turned him back around. Jasmine wondered if she should really be getting into such a discussion.
"Well, I'm guessing that he only has to worry about that during a full moon. Otherwise you're not as strong, am I right? Or you would have killed Damon by now. There's one of you. There are three of us. I think you're the one that needs to watch his back."
Stefan looked surprised when Mason let out a laugh, which from the sidelines caused Jasmine to place her hand over her mouth to keep from laughing, too. No one but Stefan was ever really surprised that his 'intimidating' tricks didn't work.
Mason peeled Stefan's hand from his arm and stuffed his hands into his pockets, "I hope you're not counting Jasmine because from what I heard, you three aren't on speaking terms."
Stefan shrugged because in his mind it didn't matter if he wasn't friends with Jasmine at the moment because he knew she would fight alongside him when it mattered, "she's one of us."
Deciding to finally make an appearance, Jasmine walked up to them and stood beside Mason. An amused glare was directed at Stefan as Jasmine crossed her arms, "not likely—that ended the moment you used me to benefit your little doppelganger."
Forehead brooding, Stefan took a step towards Jasmine, the same girl who confessed multiple times that she would die for him now rejecting him entirely, "Jasmine, he's—"
"What? Dangerous? You just said that he's not much of a threat right now and I'd rather take my chances with a harmless werewolf than a backstabbing—"
Mason lifted his hand to stop her and then turned to frown at Stefan, "if he comes at me..."
"He won't."
With a slight hope for peace between species, Mason shook Stefan's hand and left with a box in his hands, leaving the two vampires alone. What Stefan didn't know and what Jasmine had a slight suspicion on, Mason had a plan to expose the Salvatore brothers to the council and to finally rid them from this town.
If Jenna's barbeque wasn't tortuous enough for Jasmine, this surely fit the bill. What can you say to someone who hurt you in what you think is the worst possible way? How can you even interact anymore? Jasmine surely didn't have an answer to either and neither did Stefan. But Stefan would be damned if he let Jasmine walk away without them talking it out for once and for all.
Sensing what he was going to do, Jasmine began to back trace her steps to follow after Mason but maybe a part of her wanted to stay, so she allowed Stefan to grab her arm and hold her there.
Before they could say one word, Damon came up behind Stefan with a look of annoyance etched on his features, "what are you two doing?"
Jasmine sighed and shook Stefan's grasp off, "your brother is attempting to clean up your mess... again."
Stefan kept his gaze on Jasmine as he responded to Damon, "negotiating peace on your behalf."
Damon scrunched up his nose and shook his head in a childish manner, "I don't want peace."
Stefan shrugged his shoulder and turned his gaze to his brother, "oh, consider it opposite day."
Damon moved between his brother and Jasmine to place his hands ever so lovingly on his brother's shoulders. With a fake smile and disbelief in his voice, Damon spoke, "Stefan, please tell me you don't seriously think a hand shake just solved our problem."
"No, actually I think that the first chance Mason Lockwood gets, he's gonna drive a stake through your heart and then through mine, all because you took it upon yourself to try to kill him." Stefan placed a hand on the cuff of Damon's neck and shook him with a slight more force than usual, "so thank you, because we don't have enough problems." With that, Stefan tightened his hold on his neck and pushed Damon away from him.
Damon walked away grumbling which once again left Jasmine and Stefan in a bubble of tension. Neither spoke to each other, just assessing each actions they did that were considered miniscule. Like how Stefan's mouth would turn into a small frown before he regained his neutral expression or how Jasmine was trying everything in her power to not look at him and break the ice. Even when they didn't see eye to eye, they still knew each other like the back of their hand. Or so they thought.
"Now, can we please talk without you interrupting me?" Stefan stood awkwardly in front of her, already regretting his choice of words but there was no turning back now. His hands were in his pockets and his stare was set on not fleeing from Jasmine's eyes.
Exhaling a breath, Jasmine crossed her arms and shrugged, "depends on what you want to talk about."
"You're mad at me—"
"That's obvious."
He gave her a look but continued on, "when you have no right to be."
If time itself could experience second hand embarrassment or sudden fear for this guy, then it would one hundred percent rewind itself and hope that Stefan wouldn't say anything else that was entirely idiotic. But alas, time is not a real person nor does it have the ability to rewind itself. So, Stefan is stuck to face the consequences of his words and hope that his words of defense will be enough to save him.
"Excuse me, no right?" Jasmine's face looked at him with pure anger.
"Jasmine, you kidnapped and hurt Elena—someone who means a lot to me! She showed me the scar on her neck and told me what you did to her! How can I forgive you for that?"
"The same way I forgave you!"
It was dead silent between the pair of them after she shouted it out. Jasmine couldn't believe he would say such a thing, but after their last encounter, she really didn't know what to expect from her best—former best friend.
Looking utterly broken, Jasmine ran a hand through her hair and scoffed, "you hurt me, Stefan. We've been best friends since 1862. It's always been you and me against the world, but once again you throw me to the backseat for someone who is destined to break your heart!"
Hurt and desperation morphed back into irritation and disbelief, "who helped you move on after Valerie stood you up? Who was always there to comfort you when your father got to be too much and all you wanted was to have Damon by your side? Who guided you through your confusion when you first transitioned?"
Stefan was stuck listening to her finally getting everything off her chest. Finally telling him why she was just as reserved as he was.
"Who repeatedly was there to comfort and tell you that it was okay to fall off the wagon because that's who we are? It's always been me, Stefan. I've always been there. And the one time I ask—no, practically beg you to choose me, to put me first... you don't hesitate to slam the door on my face."
Jasmine's breath caught in her throat at the rush of emotions, at the sadness that bellowed through her. She shook her head and moved her gaze to the floor, "but I foolishly forgave you because I love you, Stefan. You're my best friend and there's nothing you could do that would have changed that. But apparently it isn't reciprocated."
Stefan didn't know what to do. He was shocked and rooted to his spot. So, all he did was watch his best friend walk away from him thinking she was never enough for him. But she couldn't have been more wrong.
----
After her dispute with Stefan, Jasmine decided to go find comfort in the one person who made everything around her feel normal. It took a while to find her but she knew if she found the high school's history teacher, then her friend wouldn't be that far behind. Pretending to assess what needed to be done to the playground, Jenna Sommers held a hammer in her hand and a confused expression on her face.
"Working hard or hardly working?"
Without looking at her and waiting until Jasmine was beside her, she whispered, "if I pretend that I'm lost then Ric will offer his help."
"I heard that."
She turned around swiftly and sheepishly smiled at her boyfriend, "pretend you didn't and offer to help me put together these dreadful monkey bars."
Sighing, Alaric grabbed the hammer from her hand and smiled, "hey, babe, do you need help setting up the monkey bars?"
Feigning gratitude, Jenna nodded her head, "yes, I do, thank you!"
"The instructions are under your boot. That should help you get started." He laughed evilly and turned around to walk back to the group that was assembling the rest of the playground.
Jasmine laughed as Jenna let out a long groan. She turned to face her vampire friend with a glare but immediately softened it when she saw her laughter die down. Happy, hesitant, awkward, and sarcastic are four of the sides that Jenna had been able to see emit from Jasmine, but the expression from her face, it was a new one for her eyes. Broken. She looked torn and lost all at once like if happiness was something that she was foreign to or it was all sucked out of her body.
With a small step towards her, Jenna tilted her head slightly to the side, "hey, are you okay?"
As if a switch was turned on, Jasmine's signature radiant smile formed on her lips and erased all signs of being upset from her face, "I'm fine."
Crossing her arms across her chest, Jenna narrowed her eyes and nodded her head, unconvinced, "yeah, I'm not going to pretend to even buy that for a second. Seriously, what's going on?"
Jasmine heaved a sigh before sitting on the park bench behind them, gesturing to the seat beside her so that Jenna could join her. Once Jenna's full attention was on Jasmine, the siphoner began spilling as much as she could, "Stefan and I have been friends for the longest time and I don't know, I feel kind of... neglected that he just doesn't have time for me anymore. Nor does he even bother to hear my side of the story when he's being accusatory. We got into a fight about it and I honestly don't know where we stand."
"Have you forgiven him for the worse that he's done?" When Jasmine nodded in confirmation, Jenna continued, "then you can forgive him for being a little love struck. Elena's a great girl and you shouldn't be mad at Stefan for him realizing that."
Jasmine's jaw clenched. She shouldn't have sought advice from the aunt of her side problem. It seemed at if everyone was taking the doppelganger's side: Stefan, Damon, Lexi, and Jenna. What was so alluring of the human that had everyone defending her and seemingly be wrapped around her finger?
Jenna gave Jasmine a comforting pat on the shoulder, not knowing that the last thing Jasmine wanted was for Jenna to touch her, "you'll both get through this. If Stefan is really a big part of your life as you put him out to be, then you can survive anything." She got up from her seat and looked around, "hey, can you go to the pavilion and gather up some more tools? I underestimated how many people would be helping over here."
She didn't wait for Jasmine's noise of agreement as she immediately bounded towards her boyfriend who was beginning to set up the monkey bars they left on the ground. Jasmine rose from her seat, but felt her eyes slowly transform—she stopped dead in her tracks and remembered Alethea's words of advice she gave her after an evening together of seeing if their 'lessons' were working: center yourself. Think of something comforting and draw on it. Don't think of anything else but trying to steady your breathing. I know it seems a little far fetched for you right now, but you can control this if you really want to.
Taking deep breaths, Jasmine recalled the time she felt truly at peace. The smell of the ocean wafted through her nose. The slight brightness of the sun warmed her body. A warm but rough voice filled her ears with whispers of sweet nothings. This was her peace. Her home.
Opening her eyes, Jasmine had another wave of hope swirl into her knowing she could overcome this and finally leave her misery behind.
----
The pavilion wasn't so far away from the playground, but Jasmine still took her time making her way towards it. Once she reached the abundance of tool boxes, Jasmine's concentration was faltered when she heard the names of the Salvatore brothers. She was thinking of simply ignoring it, but knowing she couldn't when she recognized Mason's voice. Jasmine cursed herself for letting her focus drift off because of silly fight.
She pretended to be looking through the boxes, but kept her ears open to hear Mason's conversation with the sheriff.
"Do you know what he's done for this town?"
"I know it's a lot to digest."
Sheriff Forbes shook her head in disbelief, "no. He's told me about the vampires he's killed. He's an ally; he's part of the Council."
"Think about it. When did the vampire attacks begin? When Damon and Stefan Salvatore moved into town?" Mason's face was determined, but his eyes showed desperation. This was his one shot to get rid of the Salvatores, he needed the sheriff to believe him.
"They walk in the sun."
"They've evolved. It's not 1864. They figured it out, Liz."
Having enough of the irrational accusation, Sheriff Forbes began to occupy herself with setting up the snack table, "No. Damon Salvatore is my friend."
"What if I can prove it to you?"
Sheriff Forbes looked up at that moment and stared at the Salvatore brothers. She couldn't deny that it was beginning to sound plausible, but she just couldn't wrap her head around it. Thinking Mason deserved to be heard, Sheriff Forbes sighed and agreed.
"If what you're saying is true, what about their friend?"
Mason's breath caught in his throat. He never planned for Jasmine to be part of his scheme, so he shook his head a bit too quickly, "no, Jasmine isn't one of them. She was just unfortunately roped into their lives."
Jasmine's eyebrow rose slightly at his deflection before returning to Jenna's side to deliver the tools. Jenna smiled graciously and scooted over to make room for Jasmine.
"Actually, I'm going to go help Mason unload some things from his truck. Are you good here?"
Jenna nodded and Jasmine tried to ignore the sudden brightness her smile emitted, "so I'm guessing your date last night went well?"
"Not a real date and it was interrupted before it even began. I need to talk to him about something and this is the perfect moment to ambush him."
Jenna's eyes glazed over momentarily before returning to their normal green color. Jasmine furrowed her eyebrows but let it go as Jenna seemed to take a tone that was trying to appear nonchalant, "about what?"
"Nothing you need to worry about."
"Jasmine, you can tell me." Jenna took a step toward her and grasped her arm.
Confused on the sudden change of attitude, Jasmine grew defensive. She lifted Jenna's hand from her arm and scowled at her, "it's none of your business, Jenna. Forget about it." The sudden defense made her unconsciously compel Jenna, but she didn't see the big deal considering Elena had her loved ones wear or consume vervain.
So, she was definitely surprised when Jenna shook her head slightly as if losing her train of thought and said, "what were we talking about?"
Jasmine made a mental note to ask Ric about it later then proceeded to tell Jenna that she was just returning to join Alaric while Jasmine went to go get refreshments. Jenna nodded and went to go do what she thought she said she was going to do.
Pushing the matter to the side, Jasmine bee lined for the truck parked a little ways away from the pavilion where Mason stood gathering more boxes. She stood there waiting for him to acknowledge her, but grew impatient after twenty seconds, "do you need some help?"
Mason let a small smile show when he saw her and nodded his head, "I don't really need help but I think it'll look a bit suspicious if I carry the entirety of the rest of these things by myself in one go, so yes, thank you."
Jasmine grabbed an unused box and began to fill it with packages of napkins, plastic utensils and straws. She felt his gaze on her but didn't feel like interrupting whatever thought he had forming in his mind.
"I thought you said you weren't coming?"
She smiled and then shrugged her shoulders, "your curiosity swayed me into at least making an appearance. You seemed to be relieved when I declined my presence."
She could see him grow annoyed with himself for letting her see his guard drop. They continued stuffing boxes with everything they could think of as they were trying to obviously gather their thoughts before they continued to speak. Mason didn't have time to come up with an excuse as Jasmine blurted out her next words.
"You didn't include me."
"What are you talking about?"
Jasmine made it a habit to not look at him in the eye as she said what she wanted to say, "when you were outing the Salvatores on being vampires? You said I wasn't one of them. And you also didn't mention Caroline and well, your own girlfriend."
Mason stopped what he was doing and stared intently at her. She knew and he believed he was royally fucked. Hastily he said, "I don't have beef with you, Jasmine."
"Exposing them means exposing me."
The boxes were forgotten as they glared at each other. Neither refused to look away and if looks could kill, they'd both be dead.
"Why are you still defending them?" Mason spit out.
"I'm technically defending my species. And if Sheriff Forbes figures out that Damon and Stefan are vampires then I will gladly let her know that there's another vampire running around—one she'll be even more interested in considering this vampire is the reason her own daughter is a vampire." She saw Mason's eyes widen in shock and smirked, "don't forget that we're not the only species living in this town, werewolf."
Jasmine pushed the box away from her before striding away.
----
There were only so many ways that Mason could expose them according to Jasmine. He obviously knew about their daylight rings, but she knew he wouldn't be stupid enough to try to take them off of them. Being staked was an option but then again Mason wouldn't risk traumatizing the entire town by impaling someone with a piece of wood.
The most logical answer came to her when a little kid bumped into her and spilled his lemonade on her. It seared into her abdomen and she cursed silently, but also thanking her lucky stars that the little kid didn't see the slight burning of her flesh.
"There's vervain in the lemonade."
She looked around the park to look for the Salvatore brothers and exhaled when she saw them in the one place she didn't want them to be, right next to the lemonade station. Jasmine quickly strode towards them, grabbing an unopened can of lemonade on her way, when she saw Damon accept the cup from the little girl.
"Thank you, sweetie."
Just before the liquid touched his lips, Jasmine grabbed the cup from him. She stood in front of Damon knowing Sheriff Forbes vision was now blocked. Damon gave her an annoyed look, but couldn't retort as she downed the drink—she knew she could handle the burn more than the drama queen.
She clenched her fists as the liquid burned the entirety of her esophagus. Shaking her head slightly, she ignored the Salvatores confused stares as she quickly grabbed an empty cup and filled it with the can of lemonade then shoving it into Damon's hand.
"How rude of me, here take another cup, Damon."
Jasmine moved to the side so that Sheriff Forbes could see Damon drink the lemonade. Seeing that the raven haired Salvatore was looking at her suspiciously, Jasmine nudged him harshly and whispered viciously, "drink the damn drink, Damon. Now."
Damon rolled his eyes before drinking it all in one gulp. He coughed and screwed his eyes shut causing Sheriff Forbes to widen her eyes and take a step forward. Damon exhaled and laughed, "it went down the wrong pipe. That's sour." He scrunched his nose and licked his lips as he tossed the cup away.
Hearing his response, Sheriff Forbes' shoulders eased from the tension and sighed in relief as she believed he drank the vervain filled lemonade. She walked away from the pavilion, ready to give Mason Lockwood an earful on throwing accusations around.
Jasmine grabbed both their arms and maneuvered them to a less populated area and turned to glare at them, "didn't I tell you that messing with Mason Lockwood was an idiotic idea?!"
"Wait, what are you talking about?" Stefan's first instinct was to look at his brother before looking for a better explanation from Jasmine.
"I just put my throat through torture because you two idiots let your stupid masculinity game overpower your rationality! Mason told the Sheriff that you two were vampires and to prove it, he spiked the lemonade with vervain. Thankfully, I switched your drink, Damon, because Sheriff Forbes was watching your reaction." Jasmine seethed at them.
Damon grew angry at the thought of Mason threatening them, "I'm gonna kill him."
Jasmine scoffed at Damon's sudden bravado facade. She knew the only reason he wanted to pick a fight with the werewolf was because of his failed plan to expose him last night. And now that the roles are reversed, he didn't really like it, "it's no use going after him since his little plan didn't work. The sheriff still thinks you're human. You're welcome."
Head still spinning from the thought of almost being exposed, Stefan couldn't help but agree with his brother, "I don't like it. He's making threats and almost exposed us. We need to put him down."
Jasmine looked at them as if they lost their minds. She couldn't believe how often whatever she said went over their heads as they let their need for the upper hand cloud them, "you're not going to do anything because it's only going to raise even more suspicion if you retaliate. Calm down and just go back to whatever you were doing. I'll handle Mason." She rolled her eyes at them one last time before beginning to walk away.
Agitated with the entire situation, Damon grabbed her arm and pulled her back, seething, "I'm not listening to your 'stand by and do nothing' crap. He's dead!" He looked around the park, eyes searching for the smug Lockwood. He narrowed his eyes once he found him walking into the woods with several bags in his hands. Pointing to where he was, Damon clapped Stefan on the shoulder and gestured for him to follow, "Woods. Trash duty. Come on."
As always, the Salvatore brothers ignored Jasmine's protests and mutterings of agitation as they followed after Mason, their plan to kill him forefront in their minds. Knowing she had to stop them before they made the situation even worse and altogether ruining the small victory she gave them when she ended the Sheriff's suspicion—she followed after them.
Shaking her head in disbelief, she raised her hands above her shoulders and moving them towards them while quickly whispering, "in deliquium cadit."
Almost instantly, Stefan and Damon fell to the ground and were consumed by the deep abyss that accompanied rendering them unconscious. Their subconscious worked to ease their sudden panic by creating scenarios about their favorite doppelganger; they soon forgot about the looming threat and welcomed the dreamful bliss.
Jasmine looked around and took notice of the every so often person who would pass by the entrance of the woods. Maybe leaving them there on the ground in plain sight wasn't such a good idea. With that in mind, she rolled them over until their bodies hit the nearest tree. Once they were out of the way, Jasmine waved her hand over them, "nulla creatura visibilis."
A flimsy barrier wafted over the brothers, hiding them from sight. Scouring the woods was a bit harder for Jasmine since she didn't exactly see which direction Mason had gone in. For all she knew, he could've just been using the woods as a shortcut to get to the other side of the park. Nonetheless, she continued to attempt to find his scent, a scent she wouldn't admit she could easily identify.
Deep in the woods by now, Jasmine was about to turn back around but stopped when a middle aged lady walked up to her with a bright smile. Jasmine recognized the lady to be the owner of the shop she's come to love: the book store. A greeting died in her throat when the lady took another step toward her.
"Oh, sweetheart, you look like you might be hungry."
"Not really. I had a big breakfast, thank you." Jasmine wasn't about to tell her that human food would do nothing to fill her, no matter how much she stuffed herself with it.
There was something wrong, but she couldn't pinpoint it, not until the wind shifted to blow against Jasmine. Her muscles became rigid at the familiar scent and she did everything in her power to stay rooted to her spot, but another breeze caused Jasmine to take a tantalizing step towards her. Raising a hand to push the hair off the lady's shoulder, Jasmine exhaled a shaky breath when her eyes landed on the crimson liquid.
Jasmine's jaw clenched and her lungs felt as if all the air had been sucked from the world. Her veins felt like sand paper as they swarmed with a rush of blood, a rush of adrenaline urging her to take a taste.
Before she could bring the woman closer to her, she remembered another person who wouldn't handle the blood as well. The breeze was still blowing and even in his unconscious state, she knew that Stefan would awake to the smell. Taking a staggering step back and ignoring the lady's encouraging words, Jasmine sped over to where the Salvatore brothers lay.
"Ostendo." Once she could see them reappear, Jasmine twisted her wrist slightly, "evigilo."
They both groaned in pain and held their heads in their hands. They looked up at her and immediately recalled why they were in sudden pain and of course, on the floor.
"What the hell was that, Jasmine?"
Jasmine waved away Damon's response and helped them get to their feet, she continuously looked behind her knowing the woman was taking slow steps after her, "there's no time to explain—not that I could explain it anyways—but you have to get out of here."
Stefan furrowed his eyebrows and finally focused on his best friend, she was out of breath and the veins under her eyes kept showing and disappearing, "hey, what's going on?"
"Please, for the love of every deity, can you two please just do what I said without questioning me?"
The sounds of crunching leaves caused them to turn around. What was just one problem, turned into about a dozen and a half problems. Residents and visitors of MysticFalls surrounded them, all dazed looking and with blood seeping from their necks. They drew closer to the trio, but once hearing Stefan's ragged breathing, Jasmine lifted her hands ready to break everyone's neck with a twist of her wrist. She was surprised when it didn't work. Quickly realizing that magic wasn't going to help them get out, she did the one thing she always did: grabbed her boys and took them to safety.
They broke through the barricade of people and began running to get away from the smell of blood. Damon tried to speed off, but he faltered—their vampire abilities were dampened. Rapid footsteps behind them let them know that they were obviously being followed by the group. The woods seemed to only grow longer the more they ran, but that didn't stop them from trying to reach the end.
"What's wrong with them?" Stefan spit out as he held his breath. He had been doing so well and he wasn't about to relapse any time soon.
"It looks like compulsion." Jasmine grabbed onto Stefan as she watched him stagger against the roots of the passing trees. She tried to ignore her sudden want to stay and focused on getting Stefan and Damon out.
"Who the hell compelled them?" Damon was doing fine since he was able to get his thirst under control since the moment he became a vampire; his only concern was his younger brother.
"I don't know!"
After what felt like hours, they saw the ending to the woods. They also saw Elena and Caroline watching them with concerned eyes, knowing they were in distress since Caroline had heard the sounds of multiple footsteps running towards them. Damon broke through the small hedges first and was quickly followed by Stefan. They turned around in time to see Jasmine be shocked backwards when she reached the hedges.
A barrier finally sealed itself as Jasmine lay on the ground groaning in pain. She remembered the sensation. It was the same feeling she got when she tried to get out of MysticFalls. In the same moment she remembered the barrier she also remembered on why she was still in town: she couldn't siphon the barrier away.
Outside the barrier, the Salvatore brothers stood in shock. They had never seen a barrier that could basically catapult a person back. Stefan looked lost but managed to call out to Jasmine, "come on, Jas! Siphon it!"
"I-I can't..."
"Yes, you can."
Jasmine slowly stood from her spot and walked towards the barrier. She lifted her hand pressed it against the barrier to prove to the Salvatores that it wasn't possible. They saw as a wisp of smoke came from Jasmine's hand when she touched it.
"Jasmine, try!"
"I am trying! I can't siphon it! It burns me if I even touch it! Just-Just get everyone and yourselves out of here. I-I'll think of something." She saw Elena, Damon, and Caroline suddenly walk away, but didn't see what they would do to convince the volunteers that it wasn't safe there, though the faint smell of burning leaves gave her an idea.
Stefan shook his head and exclaimed that he wasn't going to leave her. Jasmine's first thought was the reason he refused to leave was to make sure she didn't hurt anyone else, but she obviously didn't know of the turmoil going on in Stefan's mind. After what she confessed to him, it was all he could think about. She was always there for him in his time of need and he had been a terrible friend by doing the exact opposite. But not anymore.
Hearing the breathing of the townies behind her, Jasmine strode towards the barrier again. If she wanted to prove she could fight it, then she would have to start by doing everything she could possibly do to remove herself from the situation.
With a readying breath, Jasmine lifted her arm back and brought it forward so fiercely that the barrier shuddered. She kept repeating the motion, growing desperate as the manipulated wind wafted the smell of blood straight into her nose. Ignoring how her hand was beginning to look raw and blistered, Jasmine punched the barrier with determination, "let—me—out!"
The familiar sense of dizziness rushed through her and the ringing in her ears amplified to the point she was sure her brain would begin to liquefy. Her breathing began getting ragged and she stopped fighting against the barrier. The woods were spinning around her and she was sure she was going to give in but a small call of her name made her regain her focus.
The reason she was torturing herself to get better. The reason she came to MysticFalls. It was all for him. Even if the recent weeks were filled with bad memories between the two, the soft whispering of her name made her recall the time he last said her name so gently and delicately.
"I want us to be in each other's lives forever, Jasmine. I cannot imagine my life without you anymore. Promise me this."
"Okay, I promise. Always and forever, Stefan."
Forcing herself to lower her hands, Jasmine began heaving before running full force at the barrier. She let out a yell as she was stunned backwards but she simply got up and tried again. In the shadows, a group of people stood outside the barrier, chanting in their minds so that they won't be noticed. The leader watched Jasmine torture herself with a pitiful look on his face.
She had gone too long without successfully killing someone and he was growing rather impatient. So he formed this plan: trap her, tempt her, and watch as she destroyed any spark of good her friends thought she had.
One last attempt on using her magic--she tried fire spells, electric spells, any spell of destruction she could think of, but nothing worked. Unbeknownst to her, he had his coven infuse muting herbs and weakening elements into their concoction as they created the barrier. Even if she tried with every fiber of her being, no inhuman speed or magic would be able to get her out. Not until he allowed it. But he didn't know Jasmine and her force of sheer will.
Stefan stood closer to the barrier and watched as Jasmine stopped to regain her footing from exhaustion. She was trapped and the feeling of utter helplessness overwhelmed him. He didn't know what to do or if could do anything. Jasmine, filled with slow healing blisters and blood coming from her nose and knuckles, punched the barrier with all the force she had.
"Please stop! You're hurting yourself!"
Crazed eye and frowning, Jasmine called out to him, "Stefan, I need to get out of here! All I can think about is turning around and I'm going to do just that if I don't get away." She placed her hands on her knees, trying to control her breathing—ocean, sunlight, whispers.
"I know I've been a lunatic lately, I know what I've done, but Stefan... I've been trying my damn hardest to suppress it. Alethea has been a great help but if I don't find a way out... it's all going to be for nothing."
Hearing her own words fueled Jasmine once again.
The fire in her eyes ignited and her head continued to spin making her feel lighter than normal. Her heart starts to race faster and faster knowing she had to penetrate the barrier that held her captive. Centering her feet against the earth, Jasmine placed her hands on the barrier and pushed against it.
Sparks began flying in different directions, smoke burning off her flesh, screams ripping from her throat. She was almost through and she lost focus, but that didn't matter because he saw she was breaking through and he couldn't have that. Chanting a spell, he watched as roots ripped from out of the earth and ensnared Jasmine, dragging her back into the forest. She tried to clutch onto the ground but her fingers were no match for the manipulated roots.
"NO! JASMINE!" Stefan threw whatever he could at the barrier. All he could hear was the sounds of her screams as the trees left him blind sided. He felt his brother, Elena, and Caroline appear beside him but all he could do was pace at the edge of the woods, "come on, Stefan. Think!"
The rustling of leaves made the four of them watch as the trees seemed to part in front of them. They watched as Jasmine came into view. Roots bounded her in a kneeling position as the woman from before held her neck over Jasmine's mouth. They watched as Jasmine tried to refuse to give in and struggled to escape her snares. The woman grabbed Jasmine's face forcefully and wasn't surprised that she was able to maneuver her so easily considering how exhausted she was.
"Just one drop, dear."
One small and crimson drop fell from the lady's neck and into Jasmine's mouth. The siphoner screwed her eyes shut, trying not to revel in the taste. She could feed properly without killing some, it was something she prided herself on, but a single whispered word made all thoughts clear.
"Inpotem."
Jasmine's eyes snapped open and the roots set her free as she attacked the woman. The compulsion wore off from the rest of the people and screams erupted from their throats. They tried to run away but the barrier prevented them from going too far as it considerably shrunk. Stefan and Damon's calls were ignored as Jasmine tore into the woman, ripping her in half diagonally. Elena and Caroline's screams were falling onto deaf ears as Jasmine stalked toward the other people trapped inside with her. Prayers and pleas went over her head as she grabbed each one, taking them from this life without an ounce of remorse.
Stefan pounded onto the barrier, pleading with Jasmine that she had another choice and that she didn't have to give in. His focus was solely on helping his best friend so the stench of blood unbothered him. He watched his friend become a monster without her control. He watched as his best friend became the one thing they all feared and he was scared that she was long gone.
----
Moments of pure agony for the four people outside of the barrier seemed to pass by ever so slowly. Once every human inside the barrier was dead did the leader think it was finally time to drop the barrier. Once it fell, Jasmine wasted no time in speeding off with her renewed abilities. Stefan tried to go after her, but Elena grabbed his arm.
"Stefan, don't! She's dangerous!"
"She's my best friend, Elena. I-I can't just let her go through this alone." He glanced between the woods and his girlfriend, wondering if his choice was difficult at all, "I've been a terrible friend to her lately, but not anymore." He gently removed Elena's hand from his arm. With one last glance to Elena, hoping that she'd understand, Stefan ran into the woods to look for Jasmine.
Elena dropped her arm to her side and scoffed, turning to look at Damon and Caroline, "how can he just do that? Jasmine isn't redeemable anymore—measures have to be taken."
Caroline furrowed her eyebrows together and looked at her with disbelief, "what would you have done if it was me? That I was the one who lost control?"
Expression softening, Elena placed a hand on Caroline's arm, "I would help you, Care. You're my best friend."
"Exactly, Elena. Jasmine is to Stefan what I am to you. We should help him, if not for Jasmine, then for Stefan—Lexi left, he can't lose another friend."
Elena looked at Damon, hoping he would have the common sense to agree with her. Damon was always on her side and she was sure this time wouldn't be different, but she narrowed her eyes when Damon stood by Caroline.
"Blondie's right, Elena. So, are you gonna help us or not?"
She looked between the pair wondering how stupid someone had to be to run into danger for someone who had done nothing but cause everyone misery. So with a roll of her eyes, Elena crossed her arms across her chest, "I've been around Jasmine during her moods, I'm not going through that again."
Damon's frown deepened as he watched her retreating figure in disappointment. He sighed before gesturing for Caroline to follow him, "guess it's just you and me. Let's go."
On the other side of the woods, Jasmine stumbled through it, occasionally clutching her head as pain pounded through it. The amount of blood that coated her hands and face was too much for it to rapidly dry. Memories flashed through her mind—the ones she tried to erase, tried to manipulate. They seemed foggy as if trying to decipher a dream from the night before—not real. Her mind knew the truth but she was refusing to see the true memories. She was a good person, she wasn't a monster, or so she told herself.
She heard someone calling her name—it's Stefan, but she doesn't know that. Her vision begins blurring and turning sideways. She stopped at a tree to regain her breath when she hears the call fade in another direction. Stefan is losing hope but forces himself to keep searching, stopping only when Damon and Caroline approach him. His face showed that he was disappointed that Elena wasn't with them.
He looked at them with a confused expression, "I thought you guys left?"
Caroline smiled at him sheepishly, "is it okay if we help you search for Jasmine?"
"Are you sure? She's not exactly stable right now."
Damon placed a hand on his shoulder and squeezed it comfortingly, "she's family, Stef, even if we haven't been treating her like it."
With a solemn nod, Stefan began walking again, "okay. I think we should stay together—we don't want to be helpless when we find her."
Together they kept their eyes peeled for any hint of her whereabouts and their noses trying to catch her scent. They reached a dead end on the scent trail once they figured that it was gone because Jasmine came to her senses and cast a cloaking spell, not wanting to be found.
----
If anyone came across Jasmine, their first instinct would be to stay away. She looked nonchalant and menacing one moment, but the next second she looked slightly frightened and trying to get as far away from civilization as she could. It appeared as if she was struggling to suppress a dominating personality. She turned her head to the left when she heard shouts of her name, the calling she heard from earlier turned from one voice to three.
Jasmine, now wondering who it could be, immediately recognized the Salvatores' voices. She shook her head weakly and muttered, "stay... away." She didn't want them anywhere near her in this state. She didn't want to tempt the possibility of losing her cool and attacking them.
"Wow, even in this state, you're still a sight for sore eyes. Absolutely... beautiful."
Jasmine didn't have to look long as she found the source of the voice to the right of her. It was a voice she hadn't heard in the longest time, one that still made her knees go weak. Oceans, sunlight, whispers. With trembling hands, Jasmine stepped towards the figure that was gracefully leaning against a tree.
"It's been a while, love. You can't imagine how much I've missed you.
Jasmine smiled with tears filling her eyes, "Kol."
----
Damon, Stefan, and Caroline returned to the Salvatore Boarding House after it began to grow dark outside. They didn't know where to go from there having lost all traces of Jasmine. Caroline walked over to the couch where Elena happened to be waiting for them and sat down. The Salvatores, still a bit disappointed in Elena not wanting to help, went to lean against the back of the other couch across from them.
Elena gave them a look before sighing, "so I'm guessing you didn't find her?"
"Nope." Damon opened up the glass bottle of bourbon and poured himself a generous amount.
Stefan wiped his face with his hand, "knowing Jasmine, she probably cast that cloaking spell so that we wouldn't find her—"
"So, that you wouldn't be able to stop her." Elena scowled at the Salvatores as if mentally trying to tell them 'I told you so.'
"To protect us, Elena." Damon said as he walked around the couch to sit on it. "The Jasmine we know is still in there and her first instinct since she's met us was to always protect us. It's why she told our father about Katherine being a vampire and why she's not too fond of you."
"I'm nothing like Katherine." Elena looked disgusted at Damon for even suggesting she had any similar personality traits to her doppelganger.
Stefan sighed loudly as he fiddled with his daylight ring that Jasmine made for him, "this is all my fault. If I had just listened to her and not pushed her away, the outcome of everything would be different. I'm the one to blame for this."
"Not this time, brother. If I would have just listened to her in the first place and not gone after Mason... she wouldn't have entered the woods. It's Mason's fault, too, and he will pay."
Caroline, having been thinking about what happened in the woods, waved her hands around, "I'm sure there's plenty of blame to go around, but what even was that? It looked like she couldn't even get out of there."
Stefan nodded in agreement, "it must have been some kind of—"
The front door opened fully at that moment and then a certain witch walked in with a paper clasped in her hand, "boundary spell."
Damon looked furious as he looked at the Bennett witch, "wait, did you do this?!"
Raising an eyebrow at him, she shook her head once, "no, but I think I may have a lead on who it is." She held out the paper towards him, "this was left on my bedroom window."
Stefan sped towards her and grabbed the letter, giving her a questioning glance before reading it out loud, "Bonnie Bennett, we are a coven of great and ancient power. The Bennett bloodline has been very helpful in aiding us and we were hoping you would extend the same generosity. There is a threat residing in your town and we want your help in destroying it. Help us and you will not regret it. Sincerely, the Adiutores Terrae Coven."
Damon grabbed the letter from Stefan's hands and read it over himself. Of everything that was happening in this town, Damon could not believe they now had to deal with a coven.
"The Adiutores Terrae Coven? I've never heard of them."
Caroline tilted her head to the side, "that's Latin, isn't it? It translates to 'Earth's Helpers.'" She looked at Bonnie for confirmation and was pleased with herself when the witch nodded.
"What kind of lame name is Earth's Helpers?" Damon gave the letter back to Bonnie and crossed his arms across his chest.
"Restorers of balance." Stefan piped up.
Elena stood from her seat and walked over to Bonnie, "what do they mean by looming threat? Are they talking about Jasmine?"
Bonnie shook her head, "I don't think it's only Jasmine that they're after."
Caroline's eyes widened and then softened when she looked up at her friends, "it's all of the vampires."
----
After being done with fighting against herself, Jasmine was now strutting up a long and slightly winding driveway with a small smile on her face. Kol followed after her, simply admiring her confident aura, "so what exactly are we doing here?"
"Now that I've finally come to my senses, I realized that I still don't have the one thing that I unnecessarily want."
"And what is that, darling?"
She looked over at him and smirked, "the moonstone. By now, I'm betting that Mason Lockwood already figured out that his plan was a bust, so he'll be wallowing in self pity by drowning himself in alcohol at the Mystic Grill. This by the way, my love, gives us the perfect opportunity to visit a friend."
Jasmine walked up the steps to the house and knocked three times. Seconds later the door opened and revealed a distressed looking Tyler, "hello, Tyler. May I come in for a moment?"
"Of course, what's up?" He opened the door wider and let her pass through before closing the door.
Jasmine clasped her hands together and rested them in front of her, "your uncle had to do something that required his attention for the night but he wanted me to check in on you finding the... 'moonstone'?" She feigned confused by tilting her head to the side slightly, "I'm not entirely sure what it is, but he said it was urgent that I'd get back to him on it."
Tyler scoffed as he confirmed his own suspicion about the moonstone being more than what Mason had told him, "he said it was just a sentimental heirloom, so why does he need it urgently?"
Jasmine shrugged her shoulder and smiled lightly at him knowing that mere kindness was more effective than torture, "it's none of my business, Tyler. He needed to get the message to you and I happened to be passing by. So?"
Today's events swirled in Tyler's mind: Stacy falling down the stairs, his quick want for her to die, and the sense of terror that he almost triggered the curse. He pursed his lips before pulling out a rock from his pocket, "here."
Trying not to tremble from excitement, Jasmine clasped the moonstone in her hands and smiled warmly at the young Lockwood, "thank you! I'm sure he'll be pleased to have it in his possession. Have a good night."
Tyler reached out and touched her elbow as she opened the door, "wait, but he is coming back though, right?"
Jasmine looked at where his hand touched her, grimacing, before smiling at him, "of course, as soon as he can." She closed the door behind her and walked away from the mansion with a triumphant smirk on her lips.
Kol fell into step with her and stared in awe at the moonstone that was being tossed in the air by Jasmine, "we've been looking for that little bugger everywhere."
Waving the moonstone close to his face, Jasmine laughed lightly, "and it happened to be right under our noses."
"Nik's not going to like this."
"And when have you ever concerned yourself with that?"
Kol nudged her shoulder with his as he chuckled, "touché."
They walked back into town with their hands, holding each others', swinging in between them.
----
Back at the Salvatore house, the five of them continued to try to figure out what this new coven's exact intentions were. Everyone glared at Damon as he said, "they're here to kill us, obviously." The rest of them thought that it was much more than that and Bonnie had an exact idea on what it might be.
"From what I've read in my grandma's grimoire and journal was that this coven has been around for centuries. It's made up of five families: Genesis, Amory, Aldric, Humphrey, and Keres. But they all originate from one family—the Saunders family."
Elena lifted her hand and shut her eyes briefly in confusion, "wait, Saunders as in Jasmine's family? I always knew her personality might be hereditary."
Ignoring Elena's jab, Stefan shook his head, "that can't be right. Jasmine said she was the last descendant of her family. There shouldn't be a Saunders bloodline—it ended with her."
Bonnie shrugged her shoulders, "according to my grandma's writings, Jasmine's mother didn't die. She survived Jasmine's attempt of murder and lived on to continue the line. She was actually pregnant at the time of the attack and later gave birth to quintuplet girls."
How someone could survive after giving birth to five children in one sitting was intriguing to Caroline, "oh my god."
"It was a common thing in their village—to have more than one child in one pregnancy. So, no one was really surprised when Layanna had quints." Bonnie continued.
Sighing loudly, Stefan stopped their conversation from progressing, "can we get to the part about Jasmine's family wanting to end the vampire species?"
Bonnie pulled a small journal from her bag and summarized the passage she was on, "the story goes that a monster killed their father so brutally and utterly cruel that the mother forced it in their heads that justice should be served."
Sarcastically smiling, Damon stood up to refill his drink, "so she birthed psycho witches who are not only after Jasmine but the rest of us."
"It's the way they were raised; it's all they really know. Avenge their ancestors so that they can find peace at last." Bonnie defended, not liking anyone bad mouthing witches.
Stefan gave his brother a tight lipped smile as he quipped, "it's ironic how Jasmine's mother hated that Jasmine was able to perform magic and then she went off to use it to her advantage when her next batch of kids ended up being full blown witches." Damon let out a laugh.
Bonnie began to grow irritated at their side comments, "a vampire destroyed Layanna's family; it's not so far fetched for her to want to get revenge."
"No, it's not. But Jasmine wasn't just a vampire, she was her child." He swirled the liquid in his glass as his eyes visibly darkened, "the way they treated her..."
Bonnie scoffed as she stuffed her journal back into her back, "I don't know how you're going to justify murder."
Slamming his glass on the table, Damon's eyes brightened with ferocity, "they deserved it and it's a shame Layanna didn't die the same way her husband did. Slow and painful."
"Of course, what else can I expect from someone who casually takes someone's life without thought? Who uses anyone to get what he wants, no matter the cost. Only you would be able to sympathize with a monster."
They stood face to face as they glared at each other, "if that's what you really think then why warn us? Hmm? Why go through all the trouble to tell us that there's something else out there that can potentially kill us when it's obvious that you want us dead as much as they do?"
"Because they're my best friends!" Bonnie gestured to Caroline and Elena who had been quiet through the rest of the conversation, "Caroline is a... vampire and for some reason, Elena cares about the both of you, so I am here to help you stop this, not become your friend."
Caroline looked at Stefan with a solemn expression and quietly asked, "what did you guys mean when you mentioned the way Jasmine's parents treated her?"
It wasn't his story to tell but he needed them to know that Jasmine's attempt to killing her parents was justified in her own mind, "the day Jasmine became a vampire was one of the greatest days of her life."
Elena took a seat once more, wanting to learn more about Jasmine and why she was insufferable, "why?"
It was Damon who answered, finally having looked away from Bonnie, "because she could finally have the upper hand against her parents." He continued as he saw their expressions, "Layanna and Thomas Saunders were the kind of parents that deserve to be six feet under because of how they treated their children. She didn't have a happy childhood. She was always the outcast in her village because she was the only child to the family, and so while she was being treated poorly by the kids in town, she was being made an even bigger outcast in her own family."
Stefan continued the summarized version of the story when he saw his brother's grip on the couch strengthen, "nothing Jasmine did could ever win over her parents, they disliked her from the moment she was born—they didn't want kids in the first place. But Jasmine tried—so hard, but she eventually gave up."
"The quips they gave her simmered down for a couple months but it all started back up again when she discovered she could do magic at the age of seven. The hard pushes and hurtful words turned into whip lashes and beatings."
The girls winced at the information; Bonnie and Caroline didn't know what they'd do if they were punished for what they could do. It was obviously a tough subject to talk about and Elena was about to tell them that they could stop, but Stefan continued on talking.
"That's how it was for ten years... constant beatings."
Damon sat beside his brother and squeezed his shoulder in comfort for both of them, "her father would beat her until she was close to death then waited until she was well again to restart the cycle. Layanna stood by and made sure no one asked questions. She also sang very loudly to drown out her daughter's cries of pain and sorrow."
The brothers stopped their story telling, thinking it was better to end it there. Stefan looked up from the floor and with a fury Elena had never seen, he spit out his next words, "they were vicious people and Jasmine... she snapped."
Silence loomed over head as no one could find the words to comment on the new information on Jasmine. The murderous but charming girl, who apparently had darkness surrounding her from the moment she took her first breath.
"So what are we going to do?" Bonnie was the first to speak which she regretted since everyone's eyes and attention suddenly turned on her, varying in expressions.
Stefan sighed, "you agree to meet them."
Elena inhaled deeply and stared at him incredulously, "what?"
"If we know what they want exactly, it could help taking them down."
Damon squeezed his shoulder once more and smiled at him, "infiltrate from the inside, that's genius, brother."
A look of concern was etched onto Caroline's face as she glanced at Bonnie, "what if they hurt her?"
Bonnie Bennett, descendant and direct line to the Bennett bloodline, looked utterly offended at the question, "I can take care of myself."
Elena shook her head. The thought of another one of her friends entering a dangerous situation was unbearable. How long would they have to suffer this never ending circle of violence and sacrifice? She turned to Bonnie and placed her hands on her shoulders, "they said they're powerful witches, Bonnie, and who knows how many there are of them?"
With a fierce look, Bonnie shook off Elena's hands and stood her ground, "I'm a Bennett, I can handle it."
----
Laughter echoed throughout the alleyway as drunken people exited the Grill. Among the group were two individuals with their meal still stained on their lips. The girl had a lazy but content smile on her face as she gazed up at her once lover, who gave her a bright and happy smile as he slung his arm over her shoulders.
They stopped in the middle of the alleyway and their heads drew nearer. They could feel each other's breath on their lips. Centimeters away from finally doing what they wanted to do since they first lay eyes on each other this afternoon. The moment was ruined however by Jasmine's phone ringing obnoxiously in her back pocket.
Kol let out a sigh before pressing his lips against her forehead gently, "oh what a buzzkill."
Jasmine let out a laugh as she answered the call, "Jasmine Saunders, how can I help you?"
"How could you?"
She let a smirk plaster on her lips when she heard the fury in the voice on the other line, "oh, Katerina, how are you?"
"I told you I needed the moonstone to protect Elena, so why did you take it?"
Jasmine looked at Kol with mock disbelief, "because I needed it, obviously."
Katherine paced her room with a look of anger etched into her features, "from what I recall, taking down Klaus is both of our agendas so why would you sabotage my plan?"
Rolling her eyes, Jasmine leaned into Kol's side and subconsciously synced their steps. With a tone of sarcasm and condescending, she spoke back to Katherine, "I thought it'd be much more satisfying to see the hope diminish from his eyes when I siphon the moonstone right... in... front... of him."
Kol let out a chuckle as he smiled at her plan, "you devious little tart."
"How are you so sure that Klaus knows where we are?"
"The amount of bodies I have piled up? I'm certain MysticFalls is on their radar. I have a feeling that the remaining Originals will be making a guest star appearance very soon. Toodles for now!" She could hear Katherine stutter out a response but didn't care to know what it was as she ended the call.
"What's unraveling in that smart little mind of yours?"
Jasmine simply gave him a smile and returned to scroll through the contacts in her phone, "last time I needed to locate a Mikaelson, I had my assistant do it. Why not try that again?"
"Oh, you still have assistants? This is assistant number..."
"Two hundred and five, you know what they say? After two hundred tries, there's really no point in caring if they're good or not."
"I don't really think anyone says that, darling." Kol muttered out in amusement but wasn't heard as the call went through and a voice greeted his girlfriend—friend?
"Ms. Saunders, it's been a while!"
"Hello Jaminson, I need you to do something."
Kol rolled his eyes as the assistant readily agreed to do Jasmine's bidding.
"Anything, miss."
Kol let her walk ahead of him, but didn't let her get more than two feet away from him, as attempted to find the right words of what she wanted. Finally after a couple seconds of silence, Jasmine turned to face Kol with a mischievous smile, not letting her eyes drift from his as she said her next words.
"I want it put anonymously out there in the next hour that Katerina Petrova and her human doppelganger have been spotted in a small town named MysticFalls. And Jaminson? Make sure the news reaches the old ones' radar, I'm ready to face them after all these years."
Kol stepped towards her and wrapped his arms around her waist as she ended the call, "sounds like someone is in the mood for chaos."
"Well, if my destiny is to destroy myself then why not watch the world burn first?"
