Chapter 11

Writer's POV:

The most common emotion that haunts every human is fear. Fear of losing someone so dear to one.

That emotion is being faced by two people mostly, one Nidhi and the other her father.

Nidhi just couldn't stand still after hearing this news. Leaving everything aside she rushed to the hospital immediately. The distance she had to cover felt like the longest distance she ever traveled.

On the other hand, for the first time, Darsh has seen his superior grief-stricken. Nidhi's father's face is devoid of the confident aura he always carries. His eyes were filled with nervousness as he and Darsh were examining her scanning reports. Only they were present in his cabin and none of his other subordinates were there.

Darsh diagnosed the reports and was to the conclusion that a blood clot happened and had to be removed. Fortunately, the damage has been identified in an early stage so it can be cured using a catheter.

"Sir..." Darsh spoke out bringing him out of his trance. He looked so worn out because of the surgery he did the previous night and all the tension he is experiencing from the morning. Only a person who experienced such situations can understand his pain.

"Hmm," he responded rubbing both his temples tightly.

"It's a case of a blood clot. We have to operate on it. Since there is only one detected area we use catheters to locate more, if any more are there we can recover them."

Before he could respond the door to our room opened wide with a loud thud and his son, Nithin showed up. He is a replica of his father with sharp facial features and the even same anxious look on his face.

Darsh and Nithin knew each from quite some time and were amiable towards each other. Even now before Nithin went up to his father he exchanged a small nod with Darsh and Darsh reciprocated the same.

"What're the diagnoses?" he asked and took the report that was hung from his father's hand. Being a doctor himself it didn't take him much time to understand what was in the report.

"Darsh, ask the staff to prepare all the necessary equipment and set up the operation theater. And inform me and join me when it's done," he said to Darsh. Darsh understood that it was not just an order but he was wanting some privacy for himself and his son.

Darsh went out of the room quietly and headed towards our staff section to inform them of the requirements and other details. Since there was some time left he went to the cafeteria to grab some food to fill his empty stomach.

On his way, he dialed his mother and asked about her well-being. Things have gradually improved for them over the past few months both financially and personally. The guilt his mother was weighing all these years reduced down and she finally got better. The same goes for his brother and him as they were living with so much peace after a long time.

"Darsh!" a shrill cry of a woman reached his ears while he was still talking to his mother. He turned around to see who called him and he noticed her.

Nidhi.

His heartbeat paced up instantly seeing her after such a long time. Though they met only once she left an unforgettable impression on him. It's not like he always remembered her or wanted to meet her. It's just moments like these where there will be a sudden rush in adrenaline and hormones that make them feel all excited and happy. And that's what Darsh felt at the moment.

While it was opposite to Nidhi. Only she knows the inner turmoil she is facing at the moment. The journey from her hostel to the hospital was the longest journey ever the tears she shed were more than the worse phase of her life. After 2 years she is finally shifting back to home and planned to enjoy most of her time with her grandma but all those plans got broken.

As soon as she reached the hospital she called everyone, her father, brother, and mother but none responded to her calls which increased more panic in her. When her eyes landed on Darsh she couldn't hold back and ran toward him.

"Darsh... Darsh.... Do you know where my grandma is? How--How is she? Where is my father? No one is answering my calls and I don't know what happened...." she was cut short by Darsh who held her shoulders tightly and shook her to bring some stability to her. She was sobbing so badly and was breathing heavily. Even the words rolled out were messy. Full mess.

"Calm down. Calm down. First, take a seat," Darsh tried to pacify her a bit concerning her being now. He made her sit in the cafeteria and got her a glass of water. Nidhi was getting desperate to meet her grandma and here she is being offered water and pity. Darsh returned with a glass of water and placed it on the table.

"Drink it and take a breath," Darsh said and took an opposite seat to her. Nidhi kept the water aside out of frustration.

"Darsh, this is the last thing I want at the moment, and tell me about my grandmother."

"She is unconscious till now. We have detected a blood clot in her brain region and now we will remove it through a simple surgical procedure. Nothing will happen to her." Darsh explained the whole case to her as a part of his work ethic where a doctor should not hide anything from patients and their families and vice versa.

Hearing his response Nidhi broke down even more. She bend down to her knees and cried her heart out. Though doctors say nothing will happen it is the people waiting outside who know how scary it is to wait with unsteady hope.

Darsh could only sigh seeing her reaction. It is not something new for him. It is his work to see the loved ones of patients cry and break down before them. It is not his work to comfort them and he never did that too but seeing her cry is making him want to comfort and console her.

He crouched down on one knee and went close to her to see her face.

"Nidhi..." he called her slowly but got no response, so he placed his hand on her shoulder and called her again, "Nidhi. I mean it when I said Nothing will happen to your grandma. She is doing pretty well. And if you have any doubts then leave them cause it's your father who is operating on her. You trust your father, right? He won't let you all down. Please don't cry."

Despite his comforting words Nidhi didn't stop crying but some hope got build up inside her upon knowing that her father will do the surgery. Of course, she trusts her father and he won't let anything happen to his mother too. After a few more minutes she finally got better and looked at Darsh who is still on his knee before her. She mumbled a small thank you and drank the water to quench her thirst.

"Take me to my father," Nidhi spoke out after drinking the water. Darsh nodded to her and stood up. He turned up to find his superior aka Nidhi's father and her brother staring at them.

Darsh's eyes widened looking at them. He is aware he hasn't done anything wrong but it's the look in his superior's eyes that is making him intimidated. Gone is the look of sadness and grief. His eyes are only filled with seriousness and anger.

And Darsh gets the most scared of him in the whole world. Same as Nidhi fears her father.
