Chapter 27
I wore his shirt with my bum huggers, and he wore his jeans. Molly skipped around in front of us, barking and yapping. Adam picked up a stick and threw it for her. She ran after it and scooped it into her mouth, then tossed it around, dropped it, scooped it up again, and ran ahead.
Adam called her, "Molly! Come! Bring it here!" He slapped his thighs. She ran towards him. Adam grinned proudly, but when he held out his hand for the stick, she bolted with it.
I laughed hard. "How long did you say you've had this dog for?"
He scowled. "I didn't."
"So, how long have you had her?"
He shrugged. "Maybe three months. Not my best idea. I haven't had much time for her."
"Why don't you take her to classes? You know? Trick classes where they learn to behave."
Adam laughed. "Obedience classes, you silly woman." He cocked his head at me. "Maybe I should take you both to obedience classes."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
He stuck his tongue in his cheek. "Maybe they'll be able to teach you to beg for me."
I picked up a rock and threw it at him. "You'll be the one begging."
Adam feigned shock. "You are gonna pay for that."
I screamed and ran towards the dam. Molly chased after me with Adam hot on our heels.
It didn't take him long to catch me because I was laughing so much.
"You want me to slap your arse again?" He grinned at me as he held onto my upper arms.
I fluttered my eyes. "Will I have to beg you to do it?"
He laughed, took hold of my face with both hands, bent and kissed my lips. "Damn. I don't know what I'm going to do with you."
"You've said that to me before." I peered at him. "What's it supposed to mean?"
Adam ran his hand down the side of my head. He followed its progress with his eyes, then twirled my hair and fiddled with my ear. "It means I don't know what to do with you, eat you, kiss you, make love to you. I can't get you out of my mind, and it drives me crazy."
I gapped. "Really?"
"Yeah...really." He kissed me and then lifted me off the ground. I held onto him and wrapped my leg around his waist. Adam sighed against my mouth and rested his forehead against mine. "I can't get enough of you."
I touched his lips with my fingers and focused on his eyes. I wondered if he felt the same about me as I did about him.
He slipped his hand into the back of my shorts.
I laughed. "Uh, uh...not now."
"Please..."
I shook my head and grinned, "Look who's begging now."
Adam chuckled and put me on my feet.
I took his hand and led him towards the dam. "We're taking Molly for a walk, and I want to enjoy having sex with you. Too much in one hit will ruin it for me. I'm not made of plastic."
He put his arm around my shoulders as we walked on. Molly jumped into the water and swam around. Adam and I skipped stones. I managed four bounces; his best throw skipped nine times.
When I failed to improve my count, he said. "They're not the best stones to try and skip. Too round. You need nice flat ones."
"You're just being kind to me now, aren't you?" I giggled and added, "I suck, don't I?"
Adam opened his eyes wide. "No, seriously, the stones aren't great." He grinned and said, "Yeah, you do suck."
I slapped him on the shoulder and then left my hand resting on his tribal tattoo. "I love this. You have good taste in tattoos." I touched the star on his neck. "Except for that one. I don't like it. What was the point of doing a single star there?"
Adam twitched the corner of his lip and clasped my finger. "It has a point, but not one that means anything to me." He shrugged. "I just have to live with it."
"What was the point of it?" He didn't answer, so I said, "Or is it one of those things you can't tell me about yet?"
Adam cocked his head and sighed. "Let's say it helps with my image."
"Oh," I said, not wanting to have my image of him ruined. "I'd rather not know the reason for it."
He laughed and then sucked on my neck. "Good, I'd rather you didn't know."
I needed to know about the night before. I decided to take a chance and said, "Were you in the city last night?"
Adam cocked his head and grinned. "Were you? Is that why you had a late night?"
I studied his grinning face. My question didn't cause him any panic.
"Well?" he said, touching my chin. "Were you?"
He was either innocent or very good at avoiding my question and turning it back on me without a flinch. "Yes...I was."
He said, "So what did you get up to?"
"Not much. I went out with my friends. I thought I saw you."
Adam raised his eyebrows, his eyes glittering with amusement. "What was this image of me doing?"
"The Police arrested you. They put you in handcuffs and ushered you into the back of a police car."
His jaw dropped in disbelief. "How drunk were you?"
A surge of anger rushed through me. I folded my arms and took a step back. "I wasn't drunk. I was driving a car and this happened near Victoria Street."
Adam frowned at me, his voice stern. "I don't know whether to laugh or be angry. Are you accusing me of being arrested?"
My chest constricted. I wanted the ground to open and regretted asking him. I covered my face in confusion. "No. I don't know what I'm saying."
He stared at me. "Jasmine. I'm not a criminal or a drug addict or whatever else your imagination has me as being. I'm a normal guy with stuff going on. I don't want to talk about it to someone I've only known for three weeks. I asked you to trust me. When I'm ready, I'll talk."
I covered my face again and gasped into my hands. I had ruined the whole weekend.
Adam sighed; his voice softened. "Don't cry. Come on, honey, please don't cry." He put his arms around me and cradled my face against his chest.
I shuddered with shame.
"Please don't cry, Jasmine." He laughed, then added, "You remember what happened the last time you cried. If you don't want me to take advantage of you, I suggest you stop crying."
A small giggle bubbled from my mouth. I put my arms around his neck. "I'm sorry. Please forgive me, I'm so sorry."
Adam tilted my face. He wore a pained expression. "Don't say that...please...you don't have to be sorry. It's okay. If the situation were reversed, I'd have done the same. I would have said something to you straight away. I would have gotten out of the car to make sure." He kissed away my tears, put his arm around my shoulder and steered me towards the house.
"Molly!" he called and whistled. She came running. He laughed and brushed a strand of hair from my face. "There. Look. Who says my dog isn't obedient?"
I grinned and wiped my face with my hands. "She's a good girl."
Adam laughed again and touched my nose with his finger. "Pity my girlfriend wasn't a good girl. She needs to give up night clubbing now that she has a boyfriend."
I grinned at him. "Damn it! You have a girlfriend?"
Adam smiled and raised his eyebrows. "Yes, and she's very hot."
Oh no! Did Jasmine make a mistake?
Adam seems to have forgiven her.
