Chapter 26
We turned off the Western Highway onto the Bungaree, Creswick Road. I lifted my head and sat straighter. "Adam, this isn't the way to Ballarat."
"I thought you were asleep." He glanced across at me and grinned. "You must have had a late night."
I stretched my arms and yawned. "Yeah, I did."
Adam laughed. "Are you going to tell me about it or keep me guessing?"
"Keep you guessing," I said, then added, "So, where are we going? You said we were going to Ballarat."
"It's not in Ballarat." He jerked his head forward. "Just along this road."
"Men," I huffed. "They say women are bad at giving directions. This has no relation to Ballarat. You should have said we were going to Creswick."
"You said you weren't bossy." He laughed. "Are you giving me a geography lesson?"
"No," I said. "Just being picky to piss you off."
"Why would you want to do that?"
"Oh..." I grinned and gazed out the window. "So, you'll tap me on the arse again."
Adam roared with laughter and dug his fingers into my ribs.
I squealed and jerked away. "You're being a bully again."
"You are not going to be able to walk tomorrow."
"Isn't that only going to happen if you found out what impressed me?"
He laughed again. "No, I said you wouldn't be able to walk for a week if I worked that out."
"Goody." I clapped my hands together. "I hope I'm impressed this weekend."
"You are going to be so sorry you said that," he said as he grinned and shook his head.
The weekender was a lined and insulated shed at the end of a long drive nestled amongst a grove of trees. A wooden kitchen was in the back corner with a bathroom in the other. A cast iron bed, timber dining table and lounge suite filled the rest of the space with a fireplace in the middle of one wall. Bookcases stood on either side of it. Two old deep armchairs faced them. The floor was tiled with sandstone and covered with worn rugs. I dropped the clothes bags and spun around in awe. "Perfect. This is exactly the sort of place I want to live."
Adam stood in the doorway, a bag over his shoulder, holding the esky, grinning at me.
"It's lovely," I gushed. "I'm impressed."
He raised his eyebrows, closed the door with his foot, put the esky and bag on the floor and said, "You know what that means."
I laughed, "Yeah, I do."
He picked me up. I wrapped my arms around his neck and my legs around his waist as I kissed him. His breathing changed. He carried me to the bed, lay me down and pulled my singlet off. He put his tongue on my breast, then trailed his mouth over my body. I ran my hands down his back, then gasped and pushed against his chest in panic. "We can't!"
Adam frowned in confusion.
"I forgot to pack the condoms."
He sighed, kissed my nose, bounced off the bed, dug around in the bag he had dropped on the floor, found what he was looking for and threw it at me. I caught the pack of twenty-four and laughed.
Adam put his hands on either side of my head and grinned at me. "You and your bloody condoms. I plan to use the whole box."
I grinned as he put his lips on my neck.
I was dressed in his T-shirt, making us some sandwiches. Adam set wood in the fireplace in preparation for later. "How often do your friends use this place?" I asked.
Adam closed the furnace door and leaned on the bench. "Not as often as they'd like."
I looked around and used the knife I was holding to indicate the room. "It's clean. Does someone look after it for them?"
"Yeah." He grinned as I ran my finger and thumb up either side of the blade and put them in my mouth to lick the jam.
"What?" I said.
"You," He jumped to sit on the bench and stood me between his thighs.
"What about me?" I said as I continued to lick my fingers.
"Everything you do is so sexy. I wish I were your fingers at the moment."
I laughed, bent forward, licked his chest, and then nipped his skin.
"Ouch!"
I waved the knife at him. "That's for pinching my butt the other day."
He attempted to put his hands under my shirt.
I shook my head and tutted, "Uh, uh." I held a sandwich in front of him. "If you plan to use every one of those condoms, you'll need to keep up your strength."
He laughed, took the sandwich from me and bit into it. I stepped back, but he wrapped his legs around me. "You're not going anywhere."
I grinned, put my sandwich back on the bench and undid his fly.
We lay on the kitchen floor staring at the ceiling. Adam rolled his head to look at me. "Twenty-two to go."
I giggled and rolled my head towards him. "I have to be honest you'll be humping a dead woman if we get to twelve."
He threw his leg over mine and wrapped his arms around me. "I won't let you die; I promise."
I sighed, ran my hand through his hair and held his gaze. A surge of happiness swelled from my toes to the top of my head. My heart bounded in my chest. I lay in Adam's arms and knew I was completely and utterly in love with him. A rush of sadness tickled my nose because I wanted to confess this to him, but I couldn't. It was safer not to. I dug my fingers into his side. "This is uncomfortable."
"You're right." Adam laughed. "We'd better eat those sandwiches." He drew me to my feet, I slipped his T-shirt over my head, and he stepped into his jeans.
The bread had gone dry, so I made some more sandwiches while Adam made coffee.
We sat at the table to eat.
"You want to go for a walk when we finish this?"
"Yeah," I said. "That sounds good, you can show me around."
Adam ruffled Molly's head where she sat watching him eat his sandwich. "You want to go for a walk, girl?" She barked at him. He laughed and said, "That means yes. I've trained her well. I've even got her eating out of my hand." He put a piece of bread in his palm. She nearly tore his fingers off.
"You are so pathetic." I grinned. "All dogs do that."
Adam looked at me in disbelief. "Hey, I trained her to do it."
"Alright, if you've trained her, make her sit."
"That's the next lesson."
"Make her shake hands then."
He held his hand out to her and said, "Shake."
Molly barked again and spun around in excitement.
I roared with laughter. "Maybe in dog language, shake means to turn around. Can she roll over?"
Adam twisted his hand at Molly and said, "Roll over."
Molly barked again and sat.
I screeched and held onto my side. "Like I said, you are pathetic."
He lifted me over his shoulder.
I squealed as he carried me to the bed and threw me down. I rolled onto my stomach, shaking my head. "No...you're not going to do it again, are you?"
"Maybe," he laughed.
"No, Adam! You can't be serious! It's not been half an hour. I'll be dead before nightfall!"
He put his hand on my back and sucked on my bare butt. I screamed into the mattress. Then he flipped me over, grinning as he lay beside me.
I wiped laughter tears from my cheeks. "Please don't because I will die if you keep up this rate."
Adam mimicked the Terminator's voice. "I...am...not...a...machine." He tapped my thigh. "Come on. Let's take Molly for a walk."
They are enjoying each others company.
I like the sound of that shed.
