Chapter 1
It's just one of those days when you know something's going to happen and then it does. Well, today was one of those days. It started out great; I got up, ate breakfast, got dressed, and went to school like any other day. Next thing I knew, I'm fighting evil once again and get this, I have a new partner!
Let me backup and bring you up to date.
It all started two years ago when Mark and I were on a mission to find and destroy a device that could wipe out thousands of lives. To be honest, the device was a genius, and the plan would have worked. But the idiot of that plan, unfortunately, was Dr. Thomas Armstrong, a scientist that once saved lives, but was consumed by rage and anger.
"Ok Mark, I've hacked into the security system," I said with my headset on. "Shut off all security cameras and all traps," Mark said. I type a few things, "All cameras and traps are shut off." "Thanks, Tal," Mark said. "No problem." "Love you." "Love you too. Be careful, Mark," I said. "You know I will," Mark said smiling, "Alright, I'm going in." "Good luck," I said drinking my coffee. He stopped talking, but I could hear what was going on."It's quiet, too quiet," I thought to myself. I hear the footsteps of guards running by. "He'll be fine," I said to myself, "He's a well-trained agent." But I spoke too soon because I heard gunshots then an explosion and not just from my headset. "Mark?" I asked waiting for a response, but I didn't get one. "Mark, please answer me," still no response. "Hello Tallia," A familiar voice said into the microphone. My eyes widened, "Armstrong." "Indeed it is," He said. I could feel him smirking through the headset. "What did you do with Mark?" I asked grabbing my stuff. "Why don't you come to find out," He said dropping the headset and breaking it. I put my gadget belt on and put my guns in their holsters, "I'm coming to Mark." I leave the van and run in to save the man I love dearly.
Meanwhile, in Dr. Armstrong's lab, Mark is trying to stay strong through all the electricity going through his body. Armstrong was getting really irritated with this, "How can you handle this much pain?" Mark looked up panting and coughing,"I've been through worse than this." Armstrong growled at that response. "Something wrong, Armstrong," Mark said smirking. Dr. Armstrong loses it and raises the electrocution level to 3,000 volts. Mark can no longer handle the pain, he yelled and struggled. Dr. Armstrong smirked and watched Mark suffer. "Mark!" I yelled running in. "Ah Tallia, How nice of you to show up," Armstrong grinned. "Let him go," I demanded. "No," Armstrong said with a straight/smirk face. I glared at him thinking of a plan, but I felt gun press against my back. "Great," I said as a guard took my guns and knife then chained me to the wall. "Did you really think you stop me all by yourself?" Dr. Armstrong asked. I only smirked. Armstrong’s smirk faded and then turned into a glare. He grabbed a gun, walked over to me and pointed it at me, "Are reinforcements on the way, yes or no?" I don't answer. Armstrong cocked the gun, "Answer me. Now." "Leave her alone, Armstrong!" Mark yelled pulling on the restraints. "Shut it! I didn't ask you!" Armstrong yelled glaring at him then he looks back at me. "Now Tallia. Answer the question." "What question?" I said smirking. Armstrong starts to lose his patience. He placed the end of the gun on my kneecap and pulled the trigger. I screamed in agony and move my leg a little. "Tallia!" Mark yelled. "I'm not going to ask you again!" Armstrong yelled. I look up at him weakly and painfully. He glares and points the gun at my head, "Answer. Now." “Go..to hell,” I said and spit in his face. I could tell he wanted to kill me. He looked at me then at Mark, studying our facial expressions. I look at Mark scared, which caught Armstrong's eye. He looked at Mark and smirked. He took the gun off my head and got up. He aimed it at Mark. “No! Stop!” I yelled in a panic. “Last chance,” Armstrong said with his finger on the trigger.”Tallia! Tallia! Look at me!” I looked at Mark, "Tallia, its-" his sentence was cut off by a gunshot. I closed my eyes because of the noise, but when I opened my eyes, I saw a red spot swell on Mark’s shirt, "N-No," I said. I felt hot tears stream down my cheeks. "T...Tallia...baby...d...don’t look," Mark said weakly. I whimpered still looking at him. "I...I...l-love...you." After he said that, his head dropped and he went limp. He was dead. "Mark! No!" I screamed as tears were streaming my cheeks. Armstrong laughed, "He was pathetic and useless. His death was a-oh what’s the word." “Relief?” I glared up at him still in tears. He turns around, kneels down and grabs my face, "Yes. A huge relief. And you will be joining him, my dear," He said as he put the gun to my left temple. I closed my eyes and waited for death.
Suddenly, a team of men in bulletproof vests break down the door and crash through the skylight. "Finally," I thought. "Put your weapon down now!" A guard said pointing his pistol at Armstrong, who still had the gun to my left temple. "Put it down, Armstrong," the officer said again. It was Doug. Doug is the head of the agency and friend. "I'm not going to ask again Armstrong," Doug said. “Alright! Don’t get your panties in a twist, Dougie,” Armstrong said slowly putting the gun down glaring at me until he was tackled a soldier. “Hey! Watch the lab coat, you brut!” Armstrong yells slightly and glaring at the guard. Doug put his gun away and ran over to me, "Are you alright, Tallia?" I look at him with tears in my eyes and I looked at Mark's lifeless body. Doug looks over and sees Mark, then he looks back at me. "I'm sorry, Tallia," He said compassionately. I sniffled and sobbed into my hands when I was released from the chains. An ambulance came and took me to the hospital.
After that day, I refused to let anyone be my partner and I refused to be close to anyone because I was never going to go through that again. Never again.
