Chapter 20
FINALLY I'M AT CHAPTER 20!!
(Technically last chapter was chapter 20, but that was chapter 19 as Part 20 of the book in whole, so I don't count it)...
Anyways I am going to take writing more seriously and I took a few hours to set up Patreon for those that want to join, but I am not putting the link or tag in yet because I want to get a build-up of chapters available on there.
Again I thank you all for supporting (viewing) and reading this book, and with luck I'll actually have it finished by the end of this year...a chapter every few days can make that right?
Two weeks went by rather nicely for Annabeth and Percy. They were able to visit many of the places on the list and have fun with minimal interruptions from monsters or people that wanted to either capture or question them. It was halfway through the month now and Annabeth was definitely feeling the invisible pressure of her choice to become a werewolf like Percy, through Percy. She felt excited, scared, nervous, and was very curious to how everything was going to be during and even after the change had occurred.
Percy on the other hand was slightly irritated because he had to stare down, even kill quite a few monsters that they came across, who would've thought that they would be running this rampant with the fear of both him and the Hunt having been ingrained into them for centuries?Though he could feel that Annabeth had already accepted her decision and that lessened the mood he was in by quite a bit. And she seemed to be having a good enough time, if she'd noticed the monsters or not that didn't matter, all that mattered was her having a good time during the month of events and things to see that she'd planned out each week.
Percy snuck a glance down at the list in Annabeth's hands for what they would be doing for the next few hours today and saw something that made him cringe slightly. She'd planned a visit to one of those giant aquariums. I guess she was trying to think of me as well for during this trip, but I think all it would bring is memories of Poseidon being my late father. Well whatever, as long as she was able to enjoy it he would also try to enjoy it.
"There's one more place I want to go to today and I think that you'll like it." She beamed and Percy looked at her with the side of his eye, she didn't actually say what place the aquarium was on the list.
"Well where to next?" Percy said, stopping and turning towards her as she looked down at the list for a moment longer than he would've thought.
"Hmm. How about we go to Yellowstone National Park for the day, and then we can find somewhere to stay for the night and tomorrow I have listed as a rest day so there's nothing planned there." Annabeth said after a moment and Percy raised an eyebrow, she wasn't going to have them go to an aquarium anymore? What changed her mind last minute?
"Oh?" Percy asked, "You didn't have another place planned for us to go to today?" Percy asked and Annabeth shook her head quickly.
"Nope! I'm just following what I think we'll both enjoy the most that's all" Annabeth smirked and he growled something under his breath about sly women and doing something with spiders tomorrow. "What was that?" Annabeth hummed and he dismissed her and opened a portal hiding it behind a pillar for the mortals to not get any suspicions for a little while if they watched any of the cameras. None of which were looking in this direction fully all of the time.
"Come on, we still have five hours to look around a gigantic volcano," Percy huffed waiting for her to go on ahead. She dragged a finger across his waist as she walked past and any annoyance he had disappeared, replaced with something else, something hungry behind those loyal eyes of his. She disappeared through the portal and Percy moved to follow.
"Hold it freak!" a male voice sounded and Percy stopped and glared behind him at the interruption. It was a young security guard, he seems to have misplaced his brain if he thought pointing a gun at a being with chained arms and legs, wolf-like eyes, clearly seen claws, and a being clearly taller and stronger than him was a good idea.
"Mortal if you want any small change of life you will not fire that weapon." Percy said, "or you can just stand there while I walk through my portal. Either way don't bother me." Percy started walking towards the portal again and a shot rang out. The bullet clearly missed, but it was caught between the two clawed fingers of a very angry werewolf.
"You idiotic human! Do You Have ANY IDEA WHAT COULD'VE JUST HAPPENED!?" Percy roared blinking before the young guard's eyes and tearing the gun out of his grip and into pieces surrounding him. The predator before him leant down next to his head and put a glowing claw on the cloth of his collar-bone. "If you so much as move before that portal closes I will tear you in half."
Percy dropped the bullet among the pieces of the young human's gun and stepped through the portal, Annabeth was looking out past the railing in the distance so Percy shook himself off and then reined in his emotions before closing the portal and joining her.
-------------------------------
Today was my first day with an actual fire-arm; I expected to never actually have to use it, and only really take it out for cleaning or locking up behind a pad-locked gate. Instead I watched as two people walked right through security and among the crowd like they weren't even there. I had immediately gotten up and told Daniel, my boss, that I was going to go take lunch when really I planned on following them to where ever it was they wanted to go.
I don't think they noticed me, and sometime I was surprised to see a pile of gold powder here and there along their trail. Wait where'd that old lady in the snake exhibit go? I must be seeing things now too. Well I think I've been seeing things since the girl has a dagger on her hip and the guy...he's not human.
I've read a lot of book, and while I am sure that none of those are true I can't help but think that this person, no this thing, has similar characteristics of a werewolf or maybe a spirit of some sort. I mean with those chains it must've been punished pretty harshly for something that happened in it's past, but the only strange thing about that is that his teeth are seemingly made entirely of different metals.
I followed them for an hour before calling in and saying that I was going to watch the west wing, the one they were currently in, and if they needed any help with anything. Daniel said that one of them was actually going to head over there at that moment and since I called in he no longer needed to.
"Keep up the good work kid. Over" Daniel's voice came over through the radio and I smiled grimly, still watching the two.
"Don't worry, I will. Over" I said back and continued with doing the exact opposite of what I should be doing...
It's been around three hours now since I've noticed them and they look and act like the other normal couples around, well besides the fact he nips her ears and she sprays him with a little ball of fire every now and then for it. I almost lost it there and caused a commotion, but luckily no one seemed to notice or they were just too engrossed in the other things around to notice.
Now that the place was closing up everyone was starting to shuffle out in a slow manner, and I guess that I could say that I was still technically doing my job, a few of the kids were trying to get into the exhibits and I had to stop them. Thankfully that didn't get too out of hand, but another group had dripping bags full of something, so I had to pull them aside and go through their stuff: it was mostly papers, pens, and one guy decided that bringing a bag of ice and food was a good idea so I had to call the others over and have them deal with that as I couldn't.
It took a little while to find the two again after that but I saw no one else stealing or doing anything suspicious so it would've been a pretty boring day anyways. Though I'm still a bit stumped as to how that guy with the bag of food and ice got through us in the first place. I noticed them standing next to a pillar in the center of one of the most visited places here, and then the guy motioned to the side and a large oval oddity opened in the space he motioned. Then she walked through and I did something extremely stupid.
You ever face a dragon? No of course you haven't, but that's certainly what it felt like with it's blood-lust and claws being so close to ending my life. My gun was nothing to it, and even the bullet, something moving at supersonic speeds was but a mere fly compared to this monstrosity.
I didn't dare move a muscle, even after the portal had closed I was afraid that it would open just enough to let something small and deadly through, or maybe he would just stick his hand through and snatch my heart from my chest!
Either way I hadn't moved in at least ten minutes, and finally, with my legs starting to cramp I moved a little. Turns out having that much fear coursing through you causes all functional motion to become stagnant as I had just crumpled to the floor in shock. I looked down expecting to be on a bunch of metal parts and jagged pieces, maybe even my own mess, but nothing like that happened. Around me was just the same pristine clean floor that I had been walking on all day.
I got into sitting position and checked my gun, the bullet was still missing from the magazine, but the gun was whole again! It was just in pieces earlier so how was it like nothing happened now? Clearly something had happened because I was one less bullet but still I shouldn't be even holding an intact weapon at all.
"Hey kid you alright?" Daniel said and I just noticed that he was standing right in-front of me. I had the gun out still and everything, but I answered quickly to stir the least amount of suspicion as possible.
"Yeah, I'm fine, it's just been a long day it all. I was thinking about going to a range soon to try this thing out" I said and Daniel smiled offering a hand as I checked the safety and re-holstered the gun.
"That's a good idea kid, I was just thinking about the same thing! How about you meet with me and the boys this Saturday and we can give you a few tips, and maybe even help you find a lady eh" Daniel jabbed my side with an elbow and I chuckled rubbing the back of my head. That didn't sound like too bad of an idea...
"Sure, could you text me the details and time and I'll be sure to be there!" I said and Daniel grinned and pulled something from his pants.
"It's actually a bit of a newer place this one, but we've been going there since it opened and so far everything there's been amazing." He said and I looked at the card he gave me. It had a strange symbol on the front, like an octopus with a skull for a head.
Hello, I hope y'all are having a good day or had a good day/night. Anyways this chapter is a bit later than I wanted it to be due to family issues and other things that came up at home...plus college, but I'm getting there.
Also I finally have an understanding on how I will be able to do Patreon with multiple books, and while it may be hard to figure out at first I am confident that I'll be able to figure it out sooner than I would any social media platform.
Speaking of do you all want a Discord platform, and I don't think anyone's actually responded to that picture from last chapter yet...I didn't really expect you to with this being a completely different book than what the picture's meant for but I wanted to put it in nonetheless for opinions sake.
Vote, comment, Enjoy. It's why I'm writing and it's why you're here (hopefully). See you all next time!!
