That night, Grandma chased me out of the house.
Again.
Just because I called her son aka my supposed father a worthless drunkard.
You may be wondering why I referred to my father as worthless because he really is.
He married my mom out of lust for wealth, because my mother was a very successful business woman. She fell in love with him and they got married. He started using up her money, drinking, embezzling it. Almost making my mother go bankrupt. I was born after two years of marriage.
Finally, by the time I turned three, my mother had enough. She left the house for him. She left me.
Father could no longer manage the house on his own. He had to pack out and found solace in the arms of my Grandmother. Who reluctantly accepted him for my sake.
I hate him with all my guts. And he doesn't feel the same
for me either. He goes out in the morning and comes home drunk.
After I left the house, I walked to the Night club at the corner of my street. I don't actually go in.
A broke guy like me.
I just sit down at the corner and watch. Sometimes I get to watch fights, maybe two girls over a boy or any other mumu matter.
Suddenly I had the urge to take a short walk and while going I bumped into someone. A very light someone if you asked me.
She fell down immediately and I stretched out my hand so that se could stand up.
She looked at it for a while before she took it and lifted her self up.
"Thank you!" She screamed at me as she tried to run away.
My mind became curious as she looked oddly familiar. I used my means to call her back.
"Aren't you too young to be out at night? Or don't you have parents?" I yelled.
She paused and turned back to me, not knowing what to say.
"Uhhh, none of your business. Bye!" She hastily said and tried to run again.
But I held her back.
Then I saw her delicate features, her face filled with tiny dots and pimples. Her skin was we moist due to the rush she was in. Her hair packed up in order to avoid it getting into her hair. Her desperate eyes finding away the get away.
From me?
Just like she did at the market.
I decided to make her recognise me but coded.
"You look cute" I said to her.
And then her eyes popped wide.
"You're that guy from the market!" She said shocked.
I chuckled.
"I'm glad you remember me but I have to leave this state as we know it!" She said.
Leave this state?
To where again?
I needed an explanation of what in God's name was going on.
"Leave this state? To where again?"
She looked at me begging before she spoke.
"Do you know any way I could get to Abuja now?"
Is this girl mad?
I don't know why but I was still holding her hand.
I made a phone call with my guy, Bruce. He new how to get to places. Don't ask me how I know him. I finally let go of her hand.
After the call, I folded my arms waiting for an explanation. We sat in front of an empty caravan.
She told me everything. And I thought I had it bad. At least both my parents are still alive.
Thank God for everything. You may never know the situation of others.
"You get mind die"
"Your dad's an idiot though"
I said.
"None taken"
"What's your name?"
I asked her.
"Efe. Efe Naborhi."
"What's yours."
"Nnamdi." I said to her.
Moments later there was a car horn. My guy Bruce came out of the car.
I hugged him and we patted each other in the back. He looked over and saw Efe. Somehow shocked and looked at me for an explanation.
"Guy you no tell me say you get babe o!" He screamed at me.
I chuckled.
"She isn't even mine too begin with. Just doing her a favour. Her name's Efe."
She stood up and smiled at him. And my mumu friend winked at her.
"If he isn't available, I'm here."
He said cheekily.
I did the only thing a good friend would do.
I smacked his bololo.
He winched in mock pain as I dragged him to the car.
I and Efe sat at the back and she fell asleep immediately. I smiled at her.
She really is cute.
