Chapter Four
Louis
I saw her storming her way upstairs so I ran after her and called her out but she didn't look back. Even the staircase was packed with people that it was difficult for me to go through it.
When I finally made it through, I saw Harry's tall figure on the exact situation I was earlier. He was squirming through the sea of people doing their business on the staircase (I mean, really? On the staircase?) uttering too many sorry's along the way.
That was the thing about him. He was kind. Too kind he wouldn't even kill a fly. So I wondered why, of all people, he would hurt the person who loved him so much.
He made it through quicker than I did because he could practically see where he could walk through. And then there was me, who made it through atleast after lifetime. I swear I'm 5'9.
I turned to a corner to try to find her when I heard her scream from the other side of the floor.
I stopped on my tracks then turned around to run the other way. Where the f*ck are people when you need them?! Can someone f*cking see her?! What is even f*cking happening?!
She was yelling, I supposed, for someone to stop and I ran faster.
Since when did this hallway seem longer?!
Suddenly, the screaming stopped. I ran the fastest I could that I felt my thighs burning and oxygen escaping my lungs but I didn't care. I turned the corner where the yelling came from.
Finally, I was seeing what was happening.
A random guy was pinning Eleanor on the wall while holding her face. I was about to tackle him and beat the sh*t out of him when he started leaning in on her but I stopped.
Because of course Harry has to beat me to it.
I wondered how he got here fast and why was he upstairs in the first place. I bet he was the reason Eleanor ran up here, so I didn't see why he came up when he was the one always shooing her away.
Did he ran after her?
He punched the guy straight on his face that his nose bled. The guy fell down the floor and blood was pooling all over him. He cussed while trying to launch himself to that guy but El stopped him.
I quickly ran inside the nearest restroom so they couldn't see me when I saw them walking out on the perverted guy so. When I was sure the coast was clear, I went out and back to the guy.
He was still holding his nose and I crouched down so I could see him. He opened his eyes and they were bloodshot red and he smelled like pot.
Loser.
"Hey," I clasped my hands together and continued, "I don't care how high you are but remember that I asked you nicely, don't dare touch that girl again or I'd f*cking beat the life out of you, you wouldn't even need a pot to blow your bullsh*t-filled mind, you little piece of sh*t."
As soon as I had that mature man to man talk with that guy I went downstairs to look for Harry and Eleanor. I went to make sure Harry wouldn't leave her after what happened. I ran outside since inside wasn't really a good place to comfort someone, with people having dry s*x infront of you.
As I step out, the cool wind and dark night welcomed me as I witnessed a thing that awfully confused me.
First, because it was Harry and El.
And second, because I felt a needle pierced my heart.
Eleanor
"You f*cking d*ckhead!" he cussed before attempting to launch himself on the guy on the floor that could no longer move but I stopped him.
"Harry..." I whispered as I gently held his arm. I was terrified. Terrified enough that if I witness a fight, I would go crazy.
He turned to me and studied my face. Then he took one last look at the guy and clenched his jaw. He briefly closed his eyes and turned to me, held my arm and led me outside the house. I walked close beside him because I was still frightened about what happened. I nearly got raped.
When we got outside, Harry turned me so I was facing him. Concern etched all over his face. I suddenly felt relieved because somehow he was feeling something towards me. Like the old Harry was creeping its way out of this new Harry that seemed to feel nothing- like a rock. Atleast something good came out of what happened.
I hugged him immediately and bursted into cries.
"Shh, it's okay. Everything's fine." he comforted me as he put one arm around me and the other, went to my hair and ruffled it.
I was confused, relieved, hoping, and terrified all at the same time. But the terrified part seemed to overpower everything that I needed to be close to him to feel safe. But hugging him wasn't enough. I needed to feel more of the security.
"Harry..." I said just above the whisper when I finally managed to calm my sobs down. He backed away a little to examine my face.
"What do you need, love?" he gently asked. I was getting my hopes up. His gentleness made me do and I found myself hoping that maybe, just maybe.
"Kiss me. Please."
I was being desperate, I know. But all my emotions were messed up and my guards were all down that I needed to feel something. Something that would distract my mind from all the things quickly happening around me that I couldn't catch up. Something that would make me feel secure. Something that would make me escape reality for a brief moment.
Ofcourse, a bigger part of me was expecting him to turn me down like what he always did. But that smaller part of me, nonetheless still a part of me, was hoping he would grant my desperate plea.
That seeing me in another man's arms would wake a fire in him and make him finally realize that I was worthy of him. That seeing me in danger would make him feel the need to protect me. That seeing someone else close to me would make him feel that he needed me the way I did to him.
And the hopeful small part of me won.
For a brief moment, he was just staring at me, having a mental battle of what to do. But after seeing my, probably, desperate look, he slowly moved closer shut his eyes closed and his lips sank onto mine.
I felt my stomach knotted as my mind went blank. I was focusing on how his lips moved in sync with my own. I felt my heart swell like anytime it would explode. Finally, I wasn't thinking about that guy who tried to sexually harass me, I wasn't thinking about my broken heart, I wasn't thinking about that girl who danced intimately with Harry, and I wasn't thinking at all. I was just feeling it.
I had no idea how long the kiss lasted. All I knew was that every second that passed, he was gradually setting my hopes up probably without even knowing it. I felt like we were between reality and my fantasy. It felt surreal yet so right.
That kiss was slowly filling up the cracks and holes that he, himself had caused unto my heart. All those walls he broke down, those barriers he destroyed and all those guards that were ripped apart- he slowly rebuilt back around my heart.
Finally, I felt the security I was longing for for a while.
But then, it had to be all just my wishful thinking. After setting my hopes up, he had to crush it right under his boot. It did make me escape reality, but I was brought back as soon as I left.
Harry abruptly pulled away from our kiss and turned to someone who had just spoken.
"Harry? El?"
I turned to see Louis standing before us. He was shifting looks from me to Harry and he somehow carried an unreadable look on his face. I heard Harry cursed under his breath, took a step back and turned to Louis. The soft look on his face was gone. I read his face and I felt my chest tighten. No.
All that was written were frustration and regret.
"Louis, can you- would you take her home?" Harry asked Louis and I just felt my heart dropped. No, no, no.
Louis nodded confusedly.
That couldn't be it.
"Ha-Harry what-" I was about to ask something, hoping he would get the hint. But he turned to face me and with a blank expression on and cut me off.
"No." he sternly said.
"That couldn't be just it, right? Please don't shut me out yet. I saw you. I saw the real you. Don't hide yet, please Harry." I said as I gently cupped his jaw, hoping to see through him again. Hoping to see him again.
He humorlessly chuckled and avoided my touch, "There is no reason for me to hide. Why would you think that?" he intently stared at me. But I wasn't giving up.
"I don't know! But I saw the real you! Maybe if you do just what you feel-" I was cut off mid sentence.
"I am me. Nothing had changed." He spatted out. I couldn't understand how his feelings towards me could change so quickly, from concern to emotionally nothing.
"But you kissed me..." I said but it came out as a whisper. I knew I wasn't making sense as I felt the anxiety coming back.
He probably didn't hear what I said because he asked exactly what I said.
"What makes you think that I was being myself earlier?" he took a step towards me. "You think I was being myself because I kissed you?"
I shook my head in disbelief. My eyes were burning but I blinked the tears back. No, not again.
"God, El! I kissed you because you asked and were looking so desperate! Don't be too dramatic over it!" he yelled as he tugged at his hair in frustration. "It's just a kiss!"
It's just a kiss.
I parted my mouth to speak but no words came out. I wanted to say something but I couldn't utter a thing, I was too hurt to even form a coherent thought. To admit that he was right.
How could the best thing ever happened to me turn out to be the worst seconds after?
"Harry, stop being a b*tch! She just went through something for f*ck's sake!" Louis butted in. Then I felt an arm tugged mine and I looked to see him pulling me away. "Let's get you home." he gently told me, too gently like he was afraid I'd break. I wanted to say that I was fine, to flip him off, to tell him I wasn't that fragile girl, but I was too tired to oppose. And I hated that at that moment, I was that girl.
Everything wasn't making sense that I couldn't make my mind wrap around it. It was finally turning out right... What did go wrong?
Then it hit me.
Everything about loving Harry was wrong.
It was just a kiss. I was being desperate about it and he felt pity for me. Why would I make such big deal?
I faked a smile through all the tears. God, am I losing my mind?
"Yeah, you're right. I'm being desperate. And dramatic. Heck, even pathetic!" I started. I wiped my tears and continued smiling, "Call me anything you want, Harry. But you wouldn't know. That that's what you feel when you're inlove."
He looked at me and there and then, I saw him again. No masks, no facade. Just real Harry, looking back at me. I looked down, knowing I should stop hoping that this lost identity would stay.
Another stubborn tear escaped and I quickly wiped it away before it even fall to the ground.
"So thank you, for saving me from that pervert. But I guess, you can't play the hero when you couldn't save me from yourself."
