Lindir- sense
A/n: requested by @Morrowseerer. I feel like there actually needed to be someone here to know sense into the dwarves heads. Thank you for this!!
You finally arrived in Rivendell with the company of Thorin Oakenshield. The journey had been long, but now maybe you could rest. The dwarves look around at the elven city. Bilbo Baggins, the burglar Hobbit, stayed close to your side. You place a hand on his shoulder.
"The elves are good people. We will be safe here."
Bilbo chuckles nervously. "Have you ever met an elf?"
You shook your head. "My kind tend to stay away from other people groups. Mainly for their safety." You were a skin changer. You had the ability to change into any animal you wished. Your favorite animal was a wolfhound, so it was the animal you would transform into the most.
A brunette elf descended from the top of the staircase. He greeted Gandalf and they conversed for a few minutes. Just then, a horn could be heard in the distance. The dwarves formed a tight circle with Biblo in the middle. You take this opportunity to stand with the taller people.
Lord Elrond smiles when he sees Gandalf. "Gandalf!"
"Lord Elrond, Mellon nin."
They greet each other with a kiss on the cheek, then Elrond smiles at you. "Y/n, I didn't believe I would ever see you here in Rivendell."
You laugh and greet your old friend. "I'm just here for the scenery, old friend."
Elrond handed the Orc sword to the brunette elf, whom you later learned was named Lindir, and he ascended back up the stairs.
Later that evening, you and the company were dining with Lord Elrond. The dwarves and Bilbo sat at smaller tables, while you, Gandalf, and Thorin sat with Elrond. Lindir stood a few feet behind your chair.
Gandalf and Elrond discussed the swords that had been found in the cave, the dwarves, and the purpose of their quest. You sipped your wine, listening to the music of the elves. When you were a child, you had the ability to hear an elven song, and you became hooked. The dwarves, however, shared a different opinion with the music. Bofur stood up on one of the tables, and to your dismay, began to sing.
Lindir's face contorted with disgust. He did admit to you later, that the dwarf had an excellent voice, but very bad manners.
The dwarves then began to throw food! A piece of chicken flies through the air, and landed in your lap. Salad was thrown up the air, some mashed potatoes hit the statue next to poor Lindir, and the noise was unbearable. You bury your face in your hands, completely embarrassed by the company's actions.
Things only went downhill from there.
First it was dinner, then it was destroying furniture to make a fire, and finally bathing in the sacred fountains. Lindir and Lord Elrond were walking around conversing in elvish, when they saw the horrendous sight before them. The minstrel nearly fainted, and would have too if you hadn't come along.
"That's it," you snap and March over to where the dwarves were. Thorin looks over your shoulder to see the two Ellons standing there. Lindir seconds away from passing out.
"Everyone needs to get out. Now! Lord Elrond and his people have been kind enough to take us in as guests, and you're being disrespectful!"
The dwarves didn't move. Instead, they simply snickered and continued to bathe. You crack your knuckles (because that's what tough people do before getting down to business 😂).
"You asked for it." One moment you're a normal looking woman, the next you're a huge grizzly bear! You stood on your hind legs, opened your mouth and roared at the dwarves, which had them jumping out of the fountain and getting dressed. The company moved back into their guest chambers. They had never seen the bear before, you only did the wolfhound.
You change back into your normal self, and adjust your clothing. You turn around to see Lord Elrond and Lindir standing there watching you. You nod as you walk past them to your own quarters.
"Well, that's one way to get them to fall in line," Lord Elrond states as you walk past.
Lindir nods slightly before he fainted. Elrond sighed and called for a guard to help carry the passed out minstrel to his chambers.
The next day, you decided to go to the library. When the heavy doors opened, you saw Lindir sitting and reading a book. You come up to say hello to him. The poor elf nearly jumps out of his seat when he heard your voice. When he realized it was you, he relaxed.
"Y/n! You gave me a fright."
You laugh and sit down next to him. "Not like yesterday?"
Lindir blushed and looked down at his shoe. "You heard about that?"
You cover your mouth to try and hide a laugh. "I did."
The brunette elf laughs lightly. "I guess I just didn't know what to expect. Thank you for what you did by the way."
You smile. "It was my pleasure. After being with them for a few weeks, I guess the disrespect they were showing you and your people made me snap."
Lindir nods. The two of you spent the rest of the day in the library simply talking and reading. It was the beginning of a friendship that would last a lifetime.
