Chapter Six

'How did we get dragged into this...?' Chavonne wondered to herself as she and the other dimension hoppers sat in a Quinjet, dressed as S.H.I.E.L.D agents and sporting various weapons they had no clue how to use. The white haired female was also wearing a pair of mirrored ski goggles around her neck. 'Oh yeah. Fury's a bleeding-'

The jet shook with turbulence, cutting off her thought and getting her to cling to the person next to her, Harmony. The two women instantly split apart, neither quite fans of being touched. Tension filled the air, something that was easily picked up on by their handler for the mission, Sebastian Choi.

"Hey, relax. It's a real simple mission. You're not likely to get hurt." Six sets of eyes focused on him, various looks of disbelief being shown. They all seemed to be saying 'Then why did you guys put us in bulletproof suits?'

"Don't think they believe you." The pilot chimed in before the jet took another bout of turbulence, getting a chorus of complaints and squeaks of fear from his passengers. "Sorry! We'll be there in less than an hour, promise."

Aldric was doing his best not to look out the window, terrified of heights. Not for the first time, he wondered how anyone with the ability to fly could do so without panicking about falling to their doom.

"Sure you can't make it two? Or three? Or just not drop us off at all?" Chavonne gave her best charming smile, having been practicing with Loki for a while now. It didn't work.

"Sorry kiddo. Direct orders from Fury." The pilot apologised before going back to focusing on making sure everyone didn't rattle about the jet like beads in a maraca.

"Why did Fury want us to do this mission again? Last I checked, we weren't professionals." Roland was fiddling with the gun he was handed, the thing having more tech in it than most Iron Man suits.

"Yeah. Why not send in the Avengers? Or people with actual training?" Aldric looked green around the gills, though whether it was from how high up they were or the thought of having to fight people was yet to be seen.

"Fury wants to see what you guys are capable of in a combat setting." Was Sebastian only answer, a shrug following his words that failed to put anyone at ease.

"I'm so putting itching powder in his clothes when we get back. And freezing over his plumbing." Chavonne grumbled as she fiddled with the end of her braid, making sure it wasn't unraveling in any way. Everyone pretended not to hear her.

One hour and 10 minutes later...

"Got ya back, Double-A." Chavonne put up an ice wall, bullets ricocheting off it before they could hit the male. Her ski goggles were up, giving her the look of a superhero who was just starting out.

Harmony's panic was obvious, her entire body turned to living metal as she stuck as close as possible to Roland. All around the group, gunfire and explosions were going off, the ground littered with shrapnel, ice and snow.

"Thanks Elsa!" Aldric gave the woman a thumbs up before teleporting to between two faceless goons and knocking their heads together before teleporting away. He may prefer not to fight but that didn't mean he didn't know how.

"I honestly say she's more Jack Frost." Oscar was using a shield like Captain America to battle away nameless goons, not wanting to seriously hurt anyone of them despite the fact they were firing at him

"Nah. She's Elsa. She's got the voice to pull it off." Roland was doing his best to crack through the lock on the door, knowing whatever it was the group was fetching was behind it. Seems Joss Whedon had taken over the banter for the battle.

"Thanks for the compliment! I'll be sure to mention you when I win a Tony." Chavonne set up another ice wall, her breath coming out as steam and snowflakes and her clothes covered in a thick layer of frost.

Alex was completely invisible, wanting to just hide the entire battle. She was holding up a shield that Oscar had made to protect herself, Harmony and Roland.

Sebastian was glad to see that everyone was handling things okay, unaware that demands for therapy were just a few hours away.

"Got it!" Roland announced, everyone breathing a sigh of relief as the doors opened. The relief quickly turned to confusion when they saw what was inside the room.

"You've got to be shitting me." Was Chavonne's oh so eloquent response to seeing a woman around their age in what looked like prison clothes.

"Magnifique! I'm saved!" The woman announced in a very French accent before she dropped to the floor when a barrage of bullets flew her way.

The dimension hoppers shared a look, each one sighing deeply. 'What did I do to deserve this..?' They all thought as they got to work to getting the woman out of the HYDRA base without any of them getting shot.

One battle scene later...

"Never before have I been so happy to see a jet." Aldric practically collapsed into his seat as he and the others got on the jet, everyone beyond exhausted as the adrenaline drained from their bodies.

After they had gotten the woman out of the facility, properly trained S.H.I.E.L.D agents had come in to clean up and make arrests alongside fill out paperwork.

"A-men." Chavonne sat on the floor, reluctantly letting Sebastian remove a bullet from her shoulder. Her goggles were off, the skin around her eyes the only part of her not covered in dirt.

"You guys did a good job." Sebastian complimented as he went about treating the ice manipulator's wound. He took note of her tattoo, impressed that the colours and lines were still so clear even after who knows how long.

"Course we did. We're awesome." Roland was doing his best to calm down Harmony, the woman on the verge of a mental breakdown.

"Indeed you are. I thank you for your timely rescue." The woman they rescued gave them all a thankful smile, a shock blanket wrapped around her shoulders.

"You are quite welcome Miss...?" Oscar brought it to everyone's attention that the woman in the jet with them was a total stranger.

The woman jumped but gave a suitably sheepish smile. "Lizette Leblanc. I apologise for not giving my name earlier."

"Don't worry. We understand. Y'ow! I know you can't use anesthesia but could you please warn me?" Chavonne gave Sebastian a warning look over her shoulder, really hating the fact her medication reacted badly with unknown ones.

Alex frowned slightly at hearing that she and the woman shared the same last name but didn't say anything, simply glad that she and everyone else was alive.

"Why can they not use it?" Lizette asked innocently, everyone else curious as well. They all looked at the woman in question.

"Oh, because I could have a massive seizure. Happened last time I was heavily anesthetised so better to not take chances." Chavonne shrugged her non-injured shoulder, battling down memories.

Before anyone could ask anymore questions, they were taking off, the jet rattling them all about. Seems that backstory revelations would have to wait till they were all back at Avengers Tower.

((A/N: Quick chapter this time around. My brain does not like writing action scenes. But still! Everyone had their first mission! Cue the therapy! I (somewhat) kid. Hope you all enjoyed! Till next time!))
