Sitting on the balcony railing, Tillie Croc gazes out at the Isle of the Lost while Ben Beast is fitted for his coronation suit. She and Ben have been best friends since they were in diapers. And now, Ben is destined to be king.
As Tillie stares at the distant island, she cannot help but to think about all the children who have never been given a real chance at life simply because they were born to villains. She also cannot shake the strange feeling that a missing piece of herself somehow belongs on that island. Which would make sense with Tillie kind of being in between. Her father was one of the lucky few to be pardoned when King Beast created the Isle of the Lost. But, at the same time, every time she looks out at the Isle her heart starts beating as if it were a ticking clock.
"How is it possible that you're going to be crowned king next month? You're just a baby!" King Beast exclaims, breaking Tillie from her thoughts as he and Queen Belle enters the room.
"He's turning sixteen, dear," Belle reminds him before pulling Tillie into a warm hug.
"Hey, Pops," Ben greets with a smile.
"Sixteen? That's far too young to be crowned king. I didn't make a good decision until I was at least forty-two," Beast teases with a sly smirk.
"Uh, you decided to marry me at twenty-eight," Belle deadpans as she looks at Beast in disappointment.
"Ah, it was either you or a teapot," Beast jokes as he winks at Ben and Tillie. Belle shoots him a glare while Ben and Tillie laugh. "Kidding."
Ben glances at Tillie, looking slightly discouraged. She gives him a small nod of encouragement.
"Mom, Dad..." Ben says, gaining their attention. "I've chosen my first official proclamation." Belle and Beast exchange curious looks. "I've decided that the children on the Isle of the Lost should be given a chance to live here in Auradon."
"Every time we look out at that island, it feels like they've been abandoned," Tillie adds quietly, her eyes drifting back towards the Isle.
"The children of our sworn enemies? Living among us?" Beast asks in utter disbelief.
"We'll start with a few at first. Only the ones who need our help the most. I've already chosen them," Ben quickly gets out before he has a chance to loose his courage.
"Have you?" Beast asks as he folds his arms.
"I gave you a second chance," Belle gently reminds Beast, offering Ben a small smile.
"And, you pardoned my father all those years ago. I think I turned out pretty well, since I was given the chance to grow up in Auradon," Tillie adds with a small shrug.
"Who are their parents?" Beast asks with a defeated sigh.
"Cruella de Vil..." Ben begins slowly. "Jafar, the Evil Queen, and Dr. Facilier." He looks at Tillie, who gives him an encouraging nod. "And Maleficent." Belle gasps as she drops the shirt she was folding.
"Maleficent? She is the worst villain in the land!" Beast shouts which causes Tillie to step back.
"Dad, just hear me out," Ben pleads as he steps forward.
"I won't hear of it. They are guilty of unspeakable crimes," Beast replies as he shakes his head.
"Dad, their children are innocent. Don't you think they deserve a chance at a normal life?" Ben asks softly as he glances at his mother. Belle gives Beast a pointed look. "Dad?"
"I suppose their children are innocent," Beast responds as he rubs his face before finally sighing in defeat.
"Well. Well done," Belle says proudly as she steps over to Ben. She then joins Beast near the door. "Shall we?"
The king and queen leave the room, leaving Ben and Tillie alone. The moment the doors close, Tillie wraps Ben in a hug.
"You did it!" Tillie cheers as Ben laughs while he hugs her back.
"Hopefully this works out," Ben says as he holds onto Tillie.
"It will," Tillie tells him honestly.
The tailor returns to the room, causing Ben to pull away from Tillie. As Ben moves to continue being fitted, Tillie steps back onto the balcony and gazes out at the Isle of the Lost once more. The strange pull returns immediately, tugging at something deep inside her chest that makes her heartbeat like a ticking clock. As if a part of her truly belongs there. Or as if someone on that island is waiting for her.
