Five
In the time I had left until Louis came over, I'd picked up the mess around my apartment and stacked the dishes so my kitchen didn't look as messy. And even then, I had to light an incense so the house didn't smell. By the time I'd straightened up the apartment well enough, my buzzer was already going off.
Pressing the button, I spoke into it, "Louis?"
His voice came through, a little scratchy due to the buzzer. "Yeah it's me, Louis."
"Come on up - apartment number 216," I said as I pressed the button allowing the door to open for him. There was the sound of a 'click' of a door shutting before I backed away from the buzzer.
As I waited for Louis to knock on the door, I finished the final touches of making sure my apartment wasn't a total mess. There was a sock on the floor that I missed and a t-shirt of Andy's that was draped over the chair. Just as I picked the shirt up and started heading towards my bedroom, there were three sharp raps against my door.
"One minute! I'll be right there!" I shouted as I ran towards my bedroom. I didn't even see where I tossed the shirt as I slammed the door shut behind me and hurried to the door. I yanked it open and saw Louis there, standing with a couple plastic bags in his hands. "Hi, sorry. Uh... welcome to my apartment. It's tiny, but it's home. The bathroom is down that hallway, last door on the right."
Louis was dressed in a pair of loose-fitting jeans and a dark hooded, pullover sweatshirt. His hair was disheveled and brushed to the side as it usually was. He smiled as he held up the two plastic bags.
"Hi. I hope you don't mind, I brought stuff for root beer floats," he said, gesturing again to the two bags in his hands. "And a couple movies, too. Since we were going to hang out and I've been meaning to watch these - that's okay, right?"
I couldn't help but laugh a little. It was adorable how worried he was that the movies and root beer floats weren't okay.
"Of course it's okay. I'm up for a couple movies," I said, moving into the kitchen with Louis trailing behind me. He set them on the counter and began taking out everything. Two liters of root beer, three pints of ice cream, two movies and two glass cups. "Besides, I wasn't really watching anything on TV anyway. Nothing on besides Expedition Unknown."
Louis' eyebrows furrowed down a little. "Wait isn't that the guy who goes on all these adventures about myths? Like the one about the viking sunstone?"
I nodded my head. "Yeah, it isn't a bad show honestly."
He shrugged. "So, do you want these now or later?"
Even though I had just demolished the last bit of the lasagna in the last half-hour I was still had room in my belly for more. So I told him, "Now is fine. What did you get for movies?"
As Louis filled the two glass cups with vanilla ice cream, I picked up both movies. One was Deadpool and the other was The Huntsman: Winter's War. I quirked an eyebrow, glancing up at him. Louis had just finished pouring the root beer into one of the cups when he looked down at me.
"What?" he asked as he began to pour the soda into the second glass.
"This interests you?" I asked, holding up The Huntsman: Winter's War. A faint blush brushed across his cheeks and I quickly added, "I mean, everyone I know says it doesn't interest them, that it's nothing they'd watch. Myself, I love the first movie and this one. I'm just surprised someone else likes it besides Tammy and Darcy."
Louis shrugged. "The first movie was good and I never got around to watching the second one. Saw it on DVD at the store and bought it. I haven't really had anyone to watch it with."
I grinned from ear to ear as I placed the movies down. "Well then. We can watch The Huntsman first and Deadpool second."
Louis set the remaining ice cream in the freezer and grabbed the two glasses of root beer floats while I grabbed the movies. We set them both down on the coffee table while I sat in front of my TV, switching it from cable to DVD. And then, it took me only moments to power on my DVD player and stick in a movie.
I grabbed the DVD remote and sat back down next to Louis. Glancing him over reminded me of the movie theater. I bit down on my lip, fighting a smile as I said, "You know, that wasn't a nice thing you did at the movie theater."
His face crumpled into confusion. "What? What are you talking about?"
"The movie theater," I clarified, raising my eyebrows. Surely he remembers. "You made my boyfriend upset and jealous. That wasn't nice."
Immediately I saw his eyes light up. He bit his lip, just as me, trying to fight a smile. Still, despite how obvious it was, he said, "I don't know what you're talking about."
I couldn't help myself; I snorted. "Yeah, okay. Whatever you say, Louis."
A moment passed in silence. He bumped shoulders with mine, his voice soft as he spoke. "Hey. I'm sorry, okay? I didn't mean any harm. Promise."
Rolling my eyes a little, I nudged his shoulder back playfully. I grinned up at him as I responded. "Don't worry about it. Andy's over it. Just be nice, all right?"
He nodded his head as I turned my attention back to the TV. While we were talking, the beginning trailers have started to play through. I pressed a button, bringing it straight to the title menu and pressed play. Settling into the couch, we both paid very close attention to the movie. I even turned up the volume so that we wouldn't miss a single word.
Throughout the movie, we both switched positions a few times until we were both satisfied. My legs were curled underneath me and Louis' legs were lying across most of the couch with a small fuzzy blanket draped over the both of us. We had the glasses of root beer in our laps, spooning the vanilla ice cream every so often and drinking the root beer when the ice cream fully melted. When the both of us finished them off, we set them on the counter and gave the movie our full attention.
The entire movie was just as good as the first time I watched it. Better, even. Chris Hemsworth's character, the Huntsman, was a thousand times happier in the second movie, mostly due to the love of his life, Sara. To see him teasing her and smiling and being happy just because his wife was alive... it was definitely a nice change.
A few points in the movie I heard a couple profanities slip from under his breath. Each time I heard him, a small smile appeared on my face. It was a little funny hearing his comments while being so engrossed in the movie.
When the credits were finally rolling in, I let out a sigh while stretching my arms. Louis groaned quietly as he did the same.
"So..." I said, trailing off and asking subtly how Louis thought of the movie.
"The movie was good," he grinned from ear to ear. There was the crinkles by his eyes and for a moment, my heart stumbled in it's steady beat. Add his blue eyes and crinkles and his smile, my heart was acting up incredibly. It took me a moment to breathe. "A lot better than I thought it would be. Freya was... well, not evil, but..."
"Broken," I supplied for him.
He nodded his head. "Yeah, broken. It was a nice ending for her, at least."
I couldn't help but agree with him there. "Yeah, and Ravenna was... Ravenna."
He laughed. It was a wonderful sound I wouldn't ever forget. It was amazing how when he laughed, his face simply lit up. The blue eyes, the crinkles and the way his cheeks stretched across his bones... He was just so handsome when he was happy, it felt like my breathe was taken away with each smile and each laugh.
"Evil, you mean," he said. His eyes reverted to the hallway and he stood up. "I'm gonna use the restroom - last door on the right?"
I nodded my head and just as he disappeared down the hallway, I snatched my phone and quickly checked my messages. There wasn't a single one from Andy but there was one from Tammy.
Skype? - Tammy
I quickly texted back.
I can't, sorry :( with Louis, watching movies - Morgan
It wasn't long before my phone buzzed, signaling another message from my best friend.
Really? You seem to be hanging out with him a lot... hey, still can't find a +1 for my wedding? - Tammy
My eyes narrowed at her message, suspicious very suddenly. I didn't even have time to reply to her because her name was flashing across my screen with a picture of her sticking her tongue out.
I answered, pressing the phone against my ear. "No, I still can't find a plus one for your wedding. Why do you ask?"
"What, no hello? Well. I see how it is, then," she said, sniffing as if she was really upset and offended.
Rolling my eyes, I said, deadpanned, "Hi, Tammy."
I could practically see her grin already as I stood up and opened the small balcony door. Louis wasn't back yet, but knowing my best friend and her loud mouth, he would easily hear her side of the conversation. Plus I was suspicious of what she wanted to talk about and needed privacy.
"Hi, best friend. Anyway I was curious. Darcy couldn't go?" Tammy inquired.
"No. She said she wasn't sure if she could get work off."
"Good. Ask Louis," she said, straight to the point.
I sputtered, glancing over my shoulder to see if Louis was back yet. He was and he'd already seen me on the phone by now. He'd gotten himself another glass of root beer without the vanilla ice cream.
"Excuse me?" I asked, wide-eyed. "Ask him? Why on Earth... Tammy!"
I heard peels of laughter from her end of the phone and narrowed my eyes. Oh, that woman! She loved to frustrate me to no end, I swear. Hearing me stutter and have troubles finding words must be the most hilarious thing to her, because it's all she does sometimes. I waited in silence until her laughter ceased.
"Seriously though, Morgan. Why not invite him? Andy can't come, Ellen can't come, Darcy can't come... he is one of the few people who most likely would be able to. Plus! He lives in England - I mean, he could show you around and take you around London. It won't hurt to ask, honest. What could it hurt? He says no and you go alone and still have an amazing time?"
I growled at her, opening my mouth to say something half-rude when she interrupted me again. "Come on, Morgan. Don't give me that. Just think about it okay? Please, for me?"
I shut my eyes as my head fell back, groaning. Sure, she had to pull the 'please for me' card. And she used her sugar-sweet-voice while she said it, making it even worse. That brat. She knew how much it worked on me.
"Fine," I relented. "Fine, I'll ask. But - if he comes, you know what that means, right?"
"Yes, duh. I'll let every single guest know that they cannot - under no circumstances whatsoever - take pictures or tweet about it. They already are banned from pictures anyway."
Ah, right... Tammy and her fiance, Thomas, wanted no pictures taken at the wedding with except the photographer they hired. It also meant no phones or cameras allowed.
"Okay. Well, I gotta go, I'm keeping him waiting. I'll talk to you when I can, okay? Love you."
I didn't wait for her response as I pressed the red button and shoved my phone in my pocket. Back inside the apartment, Louis had already gotten a new glass of root beer without the vanilla ice cream and had put away the first movie. Deadpool was sitting inside the DVD player and the title menu was already up, waiting for the play button to be pressed.
"Sorry," I said as I shut the door to the balcony. "Tammy called and I thought it would be a quick call."
Louis flashed me a smile. "That's all right. You all ready?"
"Yeah," I told him, biting my lip. "Quick question though... you know how I told you Andy couldn't come to her wedding?"
He paused on pressing the play button, setting the remote back down. "Yeah, I remember. Why, what's up?"
"Um..." Just spit it out, Morgan, it isn't that hard! "Well, uh... I was wondering if you'd come with me? No one else will go with me and I'd really like to have someone there with me... I've never been in London before."
Oh, now you did it. You made it seem like he's the last option. Way to make someone want to go with, idiot.
I bit down on my lip, watching Louis' face. His eyebrows furrowed down, obviously in thought, and his teeth dug into his bottom lip. My stomach twisted nervously. God, I haven't been this nervous in a long time. I wasn't even this nervous when Andy and I went on our first date.
"You don't have to," I added quickly, reassuring him if he was thinking of a polite way to turn me down. "Honestly, I can go on my own if you don't want to. I'd understand if you-"
"Morgan, it's fine. Of course I'll go with you."
"Don't want to come-"
I cut myself off, staring at Louis with wide eyes. He grinned as it took me a moment to process his words. "Wait, you what? You'll go with me?"
He chuckled, nodding his head. "Yeah. It's your friend's wedding and I wouldn't mind going. It's really nice that you invited me to go with."
But then a perplexed look came across his face. I almost knew right away what was bothering him and told him what I was talking with Tammy on the phone. She promised that it wouldn't get out, that phones and cameras were banned anyway.
He seemed to relax almost immediately.
"Good. Saves me from worrying about paparazzi ruining your friend's wedding," he said.
I shook my head. "Nah. Even if the paparazzi would find out where you were, Tammy would never blame it on you. She'd end up cursing out the paparazzi, shaming them, and putting the biggest guilt trip on them."
Louis laughed and we eased into the movie. It was a lot more comfortable, knowing that I wouldn't be alone in London, that Louis would be with me and I most definitely wouldn't get lost. It was bound to be fun, I was sure.
You guys are so patient I swear... Thanks for that. Lol. BTW What's your favorite part in 48 Hours? :)
