Chapter One
__••__
Having a happily ever after was every woman's dream and even wish. To have a loving husband, a happy home and a future filled with love and happiness. Which was why Jenna, counted herself lucky when she met, fell in love and married her husband, Jonathan.
Even after everything she went through all in the name of love, she always remembered to acknowledge the fact that she was one of those lucky girls who ended up with the right man. He was rich, loyal and caring to her in every way. To her, she was a queen to him and Jonathan, a king of her heart.
It always brought a smile to her face each time she daydreamed of the times they started out as friends, to lovers and till the day they said their vows to themselves.
"Baby?" She heard her husband call from the living room. His deep voice that never seized to send shivers down her spine and gave her goosebumps. It was one of the few things that made her swoon.
Jenna walked down the steps of her home she shared with her husband, she was dressed in her best knee length black dress with her red colored work bag to match. She sported a small smile on her round and spotless face as she walked down the grand steps until her brunette haired husband stood at the end of the steps in a well tailored suit, his large hands were stuffed in the pockets of his fine suit pants and a smile occupied his pink lips.
The straight haired woman paused in the middle of steps and beamed in joy before continuing her way down the remaining steps until she stood in front of her tall husband, who had his arms wide open for a hug.
She always knew that Jonathan was a man who loved to display all manners of physical affection, even when he denied it multiple times. She wasn't complaining.
"Aren't you going to be late to work, Mr. Hanks? I'm surprised you're waiting for me today." She wiggled her arched eyebrows teasingly then hugged him briefly, only to be drawn back into his muscular arms for another hug when she was about to step away from him.
Jenna chuckled as her husband wrapped his strong arms around her waist, and twirled her around, making her squeal in happiness. The light skinned woman tapped his back, which made him drop her carefully on her heeled feet.
"I'm going to miss you when I am at work today," he said while looking down at her with a soft smile that made his brown eyes glow in warmth.
Jenna chuckled. "You say that all the time but I still feel so special when you do, Jonathan."
"Come on, let's go. I want the day to be over quickly. So, I get to spend the day with you," he said and made his way towards the front door of their living room, with Jenna's hand in his. The moment he got to the door of their large and exquisite home, he paused in his tracks and turned around to face his wife who stood shorter by a few inches. His brown eyes roamed the exposed part of her light skin, her black shoulder length hair that rested on her shoulders, and her soft looking lips.
"Ever since I got married to you, even though it has been three years, I can never get enough of missing you or finding you as the most beautiful woman in my life. So, don't feel weird when all I want is to get home to you," Jonathan whispered and leaned towards her blushing face. He placed his hands on her waist and pulled her closer to his broad chest.
"And you always find a way in making me swoon like a fangirl, Jonathan," she replied in the same tone and wrapped her slender arms around his shoulders.
The couple leaned towards each other, their eyes darkened in the love and need they had for each other, and the heated pull of the moment. When they were about to close the gap between their parted lips, the door was pushed open aggressively, causing the both of them to fall to the cold floor with a grunt.
"Hello-Oh, I am so sorry!" A short and darked haired woman said above them, her grey eyes widened in shock. "I didn't know you two were there. Jonathan, are you okay?"
Vera was the closest friend to Jonathan and Jenna on many occasions disliked the relationship they both shared. Most times, Jenna found herself wondering if she could trust Jonathan around the dark haired woman. She wasn't exactly blind to the way Vera acted around her husband, and she had always wanted to let Jonathan know about it, but whenever she remembered that Jonathan was a no nonsense man, she kept quiet.
Jenna narrowed her eyes at the woman standing above them, her dark hair was straight and resting over her chest, her round face coated in makeup and her hands over her chest in a pleading manner.
Jonathan rose up from his position on top of his wife to stare with a smile at his best friend who was grinning at them. He looked down at his wife and helped her up to her feet, and instantly chose to ignore the glare on his wife's face. He knew that his wife still did not trust his best friend ever since they started dating. He always tried to understand the reasons why she hated Vera.
"How are you two?" Vera asked, and gave them one of her wide smiles that made her eyes glisten in joy.
"Isn't it too early for you to smile too much?" Jenna asked in a miffed tone while she kept an eye on the space between her husband and Vera. "And why are you here, don't you have work?"
Jenna had always taken herself to be possessive of whatever belonged to her. It was a part of her that she never wanted to joke with, and something her parents had always taught her; it's yours, not anyone else's.
Vera nodded. "Jon and I chatted last night, and planned on going to work together since my car broke down last week. Trust me, I told him that I could take the bus but he insisted I joined him today."
Jenna cocked an eyebrow at the woman for a few seconds before giving her husband a pointed look. She exhaled then nodded her head with a smile on her face. It was not anything new to her.
"It's fine. Besides, you two work in the same company. Anyways, I'll be going to work now," Jenna said in a strained tone then made her way through the two adults, and out the door.
Jonathan frowned and looked down at Vera who shrugged before she walked towards the kitchen with a wave of her small hands.

Jenna dumped her work bag aggressively on top of her work desk then leaned on it with a deep scowl on her face. She huffed and proceeded to pace around the small office. After a short while of pacing back and forth, she marched to her table and pushed away some books and objects that were on it.
"Why is she always annoying? Why can't she stay away? I know they have been friends for years but it has to have a limit at least," she said in a cracked tone, and paused when someone knocked on the door of her office, after an affirmative murmur from her, her work mate walked in with a tablet cradled in her arms.
"Hi," said the young woman while she walked closer to Jenna who had a frown on her face.
"Can I help you, Gloria?" Jenna demanded then rolled her eyes at the brown skinned woman who shrugged.
"Nothing. I just wanted to check up on you. Some workers said they saw you step into the building with a trail of smoke. Any problems?" Gloria asked, and sat on the desk while Jenna narrowed her hardened eyes at the door.
"It's that Vera girl again," she replied in a low voice, her fingers clenched and a dark look in her eyes.
"What about her? Did she try to pull a best friend game on your husband again?" Gloria asked, and placed her attention on her tablet.
Jenna began to pace around the room once again, hands on her hips and a scowl on her face.
"She keeps giving me that look every time, that look of; you took my man, which I'm shocked that Jon doesn't notice at all," Jenna retorted then paused in front of Gloria who was just staring at the average height woman before returning her gaze back on the tablet.
"I've told you not to really put your mind into this issue, Jenna. I know you trust your husband but suspecting his best friend is like calling him a dishonest man, you know."
Jenna stared at the brown eyed woman in front of her then sighed through her mouth, and twirled a lock of her hair between her slim fingers.
"You're right. I shouldn't bother myself with little things. Besides, Jonathan has made it clear to me that he has no romantic feelings for that woman, so I'm fine," Jenna said in a light tone but kept a frown while she passed her friend and took a seat on her chair.
"I'm very fine, Gloria," Jenna said again with deeper meaning to her words and a raised brow.
"Huh. Okay," Gloria muttered.

Whenever Jenna got home from work or was feeling stressed, and needed to channel her feelings out of her body, she would always run into her customized dojo for practice, to sooth the energy within her.
The small dojo was filled with a few martial arts weapons and training tools to keep her in touch with her passion for martial arts and making sure she kept a meaning to her black belt ownership from her teenage years.
Jenna inhaled and exhaled deeply then pushed herself backwards with a sharp katana blade in her grasp. She moved the blade swiftly to her side, then to the opposite side and swooshed it across her body, all the while spinning around, with a grunt in between.
The sweaty woman in her black leggings and black sports bra, struck several fighting poses with her katana blade, slicing the air occasionally and also adding kicks to her practice. Her thoughts were once again clouded with the close relationship her husband, and his best friend shared and why Jonathan allowed Vera to play inappropriately around him.
She needs to know her place! Jenna thought in anger. Her kicks, strikes and swings increased, with more sweat pooling out of her glistening skin. Just as she took the last strike, her ears perked when she heard movement to her left, causing her to strike a fighting stance before she spun around speedily until she aimed her blade across Vera's neck.
Vera swallowed visibly while eyeing the sharp blade resting directly on her neck, where she could see her scared reflection.
"What are you doing in my house?" Jenna demanded with a frown. She tilted her head and pushed the blade closer to her skin.
Vera swallowed. "C-Calm down, Jenna. I let myself in. I came to deliver some work documents to Jonathan, and I was calling out to everyone but apparently no one heard. I heard sounds coming from the dojo and I saw you here. Sorry."
Jenna felt the urge to give the woman who she felt was a threat to her husband, a tiny cut on her neck. She felt her heart begin to beat in anger, and slight jealousy as more thoughts of Vera and Jonathan swam through her mind.
Flashback...
Jenna had just got back from a trip when she saw Vera's car in their garage. After she had gotten out of hers, she jogged into her home, and walked in on her husband, and Vera dancing to a slow song. It did not irk her at first, but when she saw the looks in their eyes for each other, she felt a sting in her heart. And when Vera rested her head on his chest, while Jonathan smiled softly with eyes closed, she felt her world tilt under her feet.
After she had made a noise, they broke apart like criminals caught in the act. Vera reacted too much for her liking while Jonathan stood silently.
"Jonathan was teaching me how to dance. I have an important dinner party to go to."
Jenna did not believe any of the words they said that night.
...
"Get out," Jenna muttered but Vera did not hear her. "I said get out!"
Vera jumped in fear then raced out of the small dojo, leaving Jenna heaving in anger.
The sweaty woman growled and sliced the air in quick fighting moves, with added more kicks. She moved around the small dojo with different strikes, poses and kicks until she got to a wooden dummy that had blade cuts on its wooden body. She paused with the blade across the head of the dummy.
"Jenna?!" She heard the call of her husband somewhere in the house which made the woman inhale, and exhale slowly before moving away.
She walked towards the door of the dojo, with the katana blade in her hand but stopped in her tracks when she heard the obnoxious laughter Vera always had whenever she was around Jonathan.
Jenna tightened her grip on the katana blade, shut her eyes tight, spun around and threw the blade towards the dummy. The blade stuck itself into the head of the wooden dummy perfectly. She smirked.

The trio were sitting around the large dining table, eating dinner and chatting with each other, with the exception of Jenna who was sitting opposite Vera, and by her husband's left side.
Jenna's brown eyes were fixed on the woman across her who was having some sort of conversation about their childhood memories. Once in a while, Vera would lean over and touch Jonathan's arm or even help him with his plate of food in some way or the other, even going as far as feeding him once. It made her see red whenever the pale skinned woman flirted around her husband, and feelings like jealousy and heartache always triggered something she had long buried away in her past.
I don't know how long I'll keep silent but if they push me too hard, this will end badly, she thought and clenched her fingers around the glass cup she was holding with a pained look on her face. She clenched it so tight when Jonathan wiped the side of Vera's mouth that it broke, cutting her in the process.
Jonathan and Vera stood at attention and went to her side in worry. Jenna just kept a blank face, the pain not getting to her like the one of her husband and Vera. She just picked a napkin and dabbed her cut then stood up and left the room.
"Is she okay? She seems distant," Vera said while Jonathan just looked aside in thought.
