I realized, after doing a little editing, that I have some inconsistencies related to Gail's military service record. I do plan on correcting these when I have the time, but for now I'll just give you a brief run down in this author's note.

At the beginning of Through the Shadows, Gail is about 28 years old, meaning she was born sometime around 1986. 

She joined the army right after she graduated high school, in 2004. She served for six years and retired after being recruited to SHIELD, approximately 2010. 

She trained there for about a year before becoming a fully-fledged agent. For two years, Gail was an agent. She left SHIELD at the end of 2013. 

When Through the Shadows begins, Gail has only been out of SHIELD for about six months.
