Strangly Perfect

Stevie was well into her fourth month; Lindsey becoming more paranoid every week. When the bump started forming he was convinced that it was doing damage internally, Stevie telling him that she felt nothing of the sort and was in perfect health.

For the one hundredth time that hour Lindsey came to check on Stevie and the kids, not wanting them to exert her too much. She was taken by his concerned but it did not overtake the annoyance of him watching her every move each minute of the day.

"Mommy?" Lee spoke softly as Will was asleep beside her.

"Yes, my darling?" Stevie pushed her hair back out of her face, smiling when her baby girl tucked into Stevie's side.

"I know something is wrong with you, why won't you tell us?" Leelee questioned.

"Baby, everything is going to be okay. It's all fine," She replied, totally seeing that Lee was not buying it one bit.

"Okay then, let's go play outside," Lee challenged, she was smarter than your average four year old. Stevie bit her lip and shook her head, "How about we take a nap?" She suggested, gesturing towards will who was snuggled into his mother's side. "Mommy all you do is take naps and lay in bed all day. Come on I'm bored." She protested. "Go get Daddy," Stevie sighed, knowing that her husband was on the brink of a mental breakdown. "He's napping too." Lee whined, already reminding her mother of a teenager. "Where?" finding it unusual for her husband not to take a nap with them, always wanting to keep her company. "He feel asleep in the middle of eating his lunch." She giggled and he walked in half asleep as if on cue.

"Linds, come get in bed with us before you fall over," watching him rub his eyes and stifle a yawn. Lindsey had not been able to sleep at night for worrying about his wife bleeding or needing something in the night. He walked over to them and climbed onto his side of the bed, pulling them all close. By that time Will had woke, clearly not impressed with being moved around so much. "Can we please sleep?" Will yawned, his mother smiling and pushing his hair out of his eyes. "I completely agree, buddy," Lindsey said, copying his son's yawn.

"Well I guess Ms. Lee and I will find something else to do," Stevie shrugged, seeing that her little girl was clear not impressed with being cooped up in the bedroom. "Mommy can we play uno or something. You can't move and I'm bored." Lee settled. "I'm sure we could go in your room and play dolls," Stevie shrugged, knowing that Lee loved having someone to play Barbies with. "I'll go get them!!" She smiled, turning to leave the room. "Hang on. Lindsey, could you help me into Leelee's room so we can play?" She turned to her husband. He was passed out and so was Will. "Mom I'll just get them." She said. "No, what daddy doesn't know, won't hurt him," Stevie whispered as she pulled the blanket back and planted her feet on the cold wood floor. "Now come here and help me up," Stevie smiled, trying not to move around too much.

"I'm not in a deep sleep. Get back into bed." Lindsey mumbled, surprisingly not flipping out. "No, help me," Stevie demanded. "Think about the baby." He said. "Carry me then," Stevie tested as she crossed her arms. "Not happening." He replied as Leelee came in with her barbies. "Lindsey, take Will and go sleep somewhere quiet. We don't want to wake you," Stevie glared as she picked up a Barbie, at least wanting to be in a different room of the house even if she couldn't do anything. "Linds, I've been thinking," Stevie said as he picked up Will. "About what?" He asked curiously, gently placing Will back down on the bed. "What would you think if we had Christine come and help with the kids?" Stevie suggested, "I know it's putting a lot of stress on you to take care of everything. She wouldn't mind doing it; she's family." He tensed up when she mentioned Christine. "What?" Stevie asked, not understanding why he would react this way. "Uh nothing, I can handle it honey." Lindsey said. "Tell me," she said, letting him know that she was going to make him tell her. "Honey I'm just tired." He replied with a sigh. "And that's why Chris should come help," Stevie sassed. "I can do it." Lindsey insisted, becoming quite defensive, never going to admit that he did need help. "Well...I've already called her," she crossed her arms. "Of course you did; I don't know why I would have expected anything else," he picked Will up again and carried him to his room.

"Mommy, please don't fight with daddy," Lee pleaded, handing her mother a Barbie. "It's all fine, sweet girl," Stevie smiled softly, knowing everyone would benefit from her decision.

Dinner was served in the bedroom so they could eat as a family; Christine was due any minute now and Lindsey still refused to give in to the fact that he needed help.

"When is Aunty Chris getting here?" Lee whined, it was approaching her bedtime and she refused to go to bed until Christine got there. She wanted to be tucked in by Chris and Chris only.

"Anytime, honey," Stevie answered, seeing her fighting sleep. "Come on, sweetheart, just give it up," Lindsey kissed her head as she leaned against him. "No," Lee yawned, Will had already passed out across his mothers lap. Stevie resting her dinner plate on his back so she could eat.

"Babe, why are you using our son as a tray?" Lindsey chuckled, watching her scoop up a bite. "Oh my dear, you have to be creative while being a mother," Stevie laughed, looking down at her boy. "Plus, I've done this hundreds of times to you when we were younger," speaking of when they lived together in the apartment before Fleetwood Mac. "Nice to know," Lindsey smiled, cradling Leelee in his arms, wishing she would quit fighting sleep. "Lee, baby just give in," he kissed the top of her head as he gave her a squeeze. "Aunty Chris will be here soon, I promise, now fall asleep and I'll make sure she puts you to bed," Lindsey pled, Stevie was surprised that he hadn't bribed her at this point, being that putting Lee to bed was never his strong suit.

"Okay, Daddy," Lee yawned and pulled her teddy bear closer to her chest. Her eyelids started to droop, almost closed when the door bell rang. Both kids shot up and down the stairs, "Of course!" Lindsey shook his head, standing up to answer it.

"Linds, tell Chris to come in here after she puts Lee to bed," Stevie called after him.

"Aunty Chris!" The children jumped up and down excitedly leading  their favorite aunt into the living room. "We stayed up late so you could put us to bed!" Lee exclaimed, jumping into her arms. Will wrapping his arms tightly around her waist.

"At least let her get settled in before you break her," Lindsey joked, earning a smirk and glare from the older woman.

"Oh, why don't we get you two to bed!" Christine struggled up the stairs, a child on each hip. Lindsey cleaned up the dishes and put them away, then checking to see if the kids were put to sleep; they surprisingly were.

"Makes me wish I had one sometimes," Christine said softly as she stroked Leelee's hair back out of her face. "Then again, I don't see myself as the mother type," shrugging and standing up.

"I agree," Lindsey nudged her. "You're an expert at filling them with sugar and sending them home...they're our problem then."

"Works out great for me," shrugging again. "So I can finally speak to Stevie now, right?" Chris chuckled.

"Yes, she's waiting in the bedroom for you. I'll get your things and place them in the guest room next door to Will," said Lindsey, making his way downstairs.

Stevie instantly smiled at the sight of her best friend walking into the bedroom. "Hi! Come sit, we have to talk," Stevie grabbed her hand and pulled her onto the bed.

"Christ, first your kids attack me and now you," joking as she hugged Stevie close.

"So....how are things?" Asking as she pulled away, remembering the tensions between Stevie and Lindsey the last time she was here.

"Strained, but oddly perfect?" Stevie giggled, unsure how to properly answer the question.

"But Lindsey is okay now?" Chris scooted up the bed and sat beside Stevie.

"Oh yes, he's terrific....just a little paranoid. I mean-he doesn't sleep, doesn't leave the house, I'm really worried about him," Stevie sighed. "I need him here and healthy.

"And that's why your back up has arrived," Christine gestured towards herself, eliciting a giggle from Stevie.

"Damn, now I have to pee," Stevie laughed harder, hoping that the bathroom breaks wouldn't happen until further into her pregnancy.

"Do you need help up?" Chris offered, but Stevie declining, standing on her own.

"Uh, love, sit back down," Chris reached for her, turning pale.

"Why?" Stevie obviously confused.

"You're bleeding."
