Our problems
Life continued on to the best of Stevie's ability, constantly checking over her shoulder for Joe. Lindsey was extremely worried about her, she barely slept and she barely drank.
One morning Lindsey woke up and found Stevie just staring out at the window at nothing but the ground.
"Steph?" He propped himself up on his elbow, rubbing her lower back as she was sitting up.
She jumped a little at his touch but soon relaxed, turning to face him. "Hey."
"Are you alright?" He stood on his knees behind her, rubbing her shoulders
"Yeah, I'm fine."
"I don't think you are," Lindsey wrapped his arms around her, "tell me, tell me what's wrong," he said gently
She shook her head slowly. "Lindsey-"
"Tell me."
"I'm so scared of Joe. What he could do to my family. I'm not willing to put anything a jeopardy....so I've decided not to fight in for custody," Stevie whimpered
She buried her face in her hands, shaking as she cried. "What?? Stevie why would you even consider that!"
"Lindsey he could destroy my family-everything. This would be traumatic for the kids and for the pregnancy-if they make it to term, why shouldn't I do this?"
He looked at her like she'd lost her mind. "Because Stephanie, this is your baby. You love them with all your heart I know you do."
"But sometimes we have to make sacrifices for the sake of our family."
"They're a part of our family!"
"What am I supposed to do?!" She lashed out
"Go to court, win."
"Lindsey it'd be so stressful, it's not how I planned to end this pregnancy," Stevie said
"None of any of this was planned!"
"I know that!" She stood
He stood up with her. "Steves don't get so worked up!"
"Don't you tell me what to do!" She moved away from him, crying harshly
He ran over to her and pulled her close to him tightly. "I'm not Stevie, I'm not. But you're really worrying me right now with how your stressing over this-it's not healthy for the baby."
"None of this is," Stevie stated
"I know I know, and I'm so sorry that you're having to worry about all this."
"I just want to make it all go away," Stevie nuzzled his shoulder
He kissed her head and rubbed her back. "I know baby I know."
"I need to go start breakfast before the kids wake up," Stevie pulled away from him
He nodded then leaned down and kissed her comfortingly before letting her go.
She dried her tears and walked downstairs
Lee and Will came running in only about 10 minutes later and luckily Stevie had already finished making their breakfast
"Good morning," Stevie said softly, not showing tons of emotion lately
"Good morning mommy!" Lee ran up and hugged her mama tight.
"You guys eat and then you can go to a friends house," Stevie instructed
"Yay! Alright! What's for breakfast mama?" Will asked excitedly
"Yogurt and some fruit," Stevie sat the plates in front of them
"Yay!" Lee yelled, Will wasn't exactly enthusiastic but he decided to try it
Lindsey leaned down to his level, "There's chocolate syrup in the cabinet," he whispered to Will
"Cool!" He ran and grabbed it
"You know I do not approve," Stevie scolded Lindsey
"Well neither did Will- just fruit and yogurt? Come on Steph that's a girly breakfast and you know it." He laughed
"Then you make breakfast," she stormed out
He stared at the doorway in shock and shook his head.
"What's wrong with her now?" Will asked
"Mommy's just not having a good day today, she's fine."
"Can we make her better?"Lee asked quietly, tired of seeing her mother sad all the time
"Maybe honey...I don't know... Eventually. Give her some time."
"Go to her," Will told his father
"I will in a minute buddy. You two need to hurry and get ready to go to your friends house."
"I wanna take care of mommy," Will insisted
"Alright, alright. I'll go check on her."
Will nodded, focusing back on breakfast
Lindsey went off after Stevie.
She was starting a shower, cussing profusely as she struggled to undress, doing so in an unreasonable manor.
He knocked on the bathroom door gently.
"What?!" She yelled
"Are you okay?"
"I'm fine," she replied quietly
He pushed open the door
Stevie was struggling to get her shirt off, cussing and tugging repeatedly
He came up and helped her get it off with ease.
She refused to knowledge the fact that her stomach was starting to pop out, casually bending over to pick up her discarded clothes
"Thank you."
"No problem," Lindsey tried to kiss her cheek, being ignored as she stepped into the shower
He sighed.
Stevie slid down the tiled wall to the floor, pulling her knees to her chest and sobbing. This pregnancy was destroying her.
Lindsey could hear her cries as he had begun to leave the room.
He undressed immediately, entering the shower with her, "Please don't do this."
She just continued to cry.
"Baby, calm down," Lindsey kissed her temple, holding her close
She wrapped herself around him and sobbed into his chest. "I-I can't! I love my baby Lindsey but....it just hurts..."
"Stevie," he cupped her cheek, "please stop worrying, your baby is stressed too."
She nodded quickly and tried to take deep breaths.
"There you go," kissing the top of her head
He rubbed her shoulders soothingly
"I'm trying not to love this baby," Stevie admitted
Lindsey's jaw dropped and he looked down at her, shocked. "Honey no! Don't do that baby! No!"
"I'm so done with everything, I don't feel like trying anymore. I feel like my life hasn't been happy since before the last baby," She sniffled
"I'm so sorry honey I wish more than anything in the world that I could make you feel better. More than anything."
"Take Joe out of the equation," she told him coldly
"If I could I would."
"Couldn't we put a restraining order or something on him for breaking into the house? We'll stay away and when he violates it- which he will- we can get him arrested. He could never have the baby then," Stevie plotted
"Stevie honey, would you listen to yourself. That's not right and you know it."
"Do you have a better plan?" Stevie snapped
"There isn't a plan. We just have to live our lives to the best of our ability. Day by day. That baby is half Joe's. You can't change that."
"I've been trying to do that and it's been killing both of us!" Stevie said
He hung his head sadly.
She stood up, feeling extremely nauseous, "I'm gonna be sick."
She pulled the curtain away and dashed for the toilet, Lindsey right behind her
Stevie barely made it to the toilet, dropping to her knees and heaving
Lindsey was right there with her to rub her back and drape a towel over her shoulders as he then held her hair back.
"I can't take this," Stevie sobbed, wiping her mouth
"I don't know how to help you! I want to do bad Steph! But I can't!" He started crying now
Stevie pulled him to her, "I'm sorry! I'm sorry!"
"I'm inviting Joe over," Stevie stood up
Lindsey looked up at her strangely.
"I can't go one like this for the next six months," She shook her head, picking up the phone
He looked at her confused. "What do you mean?"
"I can't stress about custody!" She huffed
"Well what are you going to do about it?" He asked as he handed her her bath robe and put his own on.
"I am going to call him over and talk this out. He needs to see what this is doing to me."
Lindsey hoped she was right. Hoped Joe would some way, some how, let everything go.
Surely enough, Joe arrived that afternoon, not missing a chance to see his child.
He knocked at the door and Lindsey answered it.
"Stevie wanted to see me?" He tried to peak around Lindsey, obviously nervous. "Oh! Uh, I brought this," he held out a white onesie with yellow ducklings on it
Lindsey bit his tongue and let him in. "She's in the living room."
Hie slipped past Lindsey and headed quickly into the living room, "Hey you two!" He smiled brightly
Stevie smiled politely back at him. "Hi."
"May I?" He gestured toward her stomach, kneeling in front of her.
She nodded
He placed his hand on her stomach, his smiled growing bigger if that were possible, "Hey there!"
She bit her lip.
"You've grown so much!" Joe gently felt her bump. Lindsey stood back, completely uncomfortable with another man touching his wife like that
"Yes..I guess they have.."
"I brought you this," he handed her the onesie
She took it from him slowly. "Thank you.."
"I've been doing a fair share of shopping for them, the band keeps giving me hell for it but I don't care."
She couldn't help but a smile a little at how much he cared. But there was a reason she had called him over today
"So was there something you needed to tell me?"
"Yes um... Here you can sit down on the sofa." He got seated and waited for her to begin
"Joe we really need to talk about this custody arrangement, I'm getting physically base I worry that you'll take he baby from me."
He looked at her warily. "Stevie... What do you mean physically?"
"I barely sleep or eat and I get so worked up about this whole thing that I throw up."
He shook his head and ran his hands through his hair
"Please, you can see them when you want to, just don't take them," Stevie began to cry
"Step-"
"Please! Joe please, I can't live in this worry anymore."
"I'm worried that I'll never get to see them."
"I promise you you will, I swear on it! Joe please trust me-if I don't keep my word then you can come after me, but please, give me a chance. Their mine too."
"Can I help with the nursery and pay for the doctors appointment? You can decorate the nursery at my house?" His voice shook, tear misted his eyes
"I'd love to."
"I'd like to pay for everything," he stated
She shook her head, "Joe that's not necessary."
"I want to."
She bit her lip, unsure.
"Let me," he held her stomach
She looked up at Lindsey for an answer
"It's his child, Steph," Lindsey shrugged
"Okay...you can."
Joe nodded, "Thank you."
She gave him a small smile. "So can we come to a common ground here..? Equal custody?"
"Yes," he nodded
She leaned in and hugged him tightly. "Oh my gosh, thank you so much! Joe I promise you this will work out! I promise."
"I'm so sorry Stephanie. I didn't mean to put both of you at risk in this," Joe kissed her cheek
She nodded, "It's okay..it's all okay now."
"I'll leave now, please let me know about appointments and the nursery," He stood, heading for the door
"I will."
Joe showed himself out quickly and Lindsey sat beside Stevie, "Are you alright?"
"I think so.."
"This is over with," Lindsey rubbed her arms, kissing her forehead
"Yes, it is. Thank you for not leaving me. Even though I'm crazy."
"I can't leave you like this," He shook his head.
She snuggled into his side and kissed his shoulder.
"Let's lay down and get some rest," he laid back against he arm of the couch and pulled her next to him.
She nodded in agreement. "That sounds wonderful."
"You need to rest, you haven't sept well in weeks."
"I know, I'm sorry for making you worry."
"Don't apologize for that," he kissed her softly, "it's my job to worry about my family."
She pulled herself from her sleepy haze to fully look him in the eyes. "I love you Lindsey."
"I love you too," he smiled, his eyes growing brighter now that the stress was take from his shoulders
She leaned up and kissed him before laying back down on his chest.
"Steph?" He spoke up, almost as he was asleep
"Yeah?"
"I love your baby, I haven't said it, but I do."
She squeezed her eyes shut to try to avoid crying. She wrapped her arms around him tighter and finally collected her emotions somewhat as she looked up at him
and spoke, "You never cease to amaze me Lindsey Buckingham. That means the world to me and I couldn't be more grateful for having you back."
A moment of
silence came and Stevie broke it this time. "You'll be in their lives you know. Maybe not as their father but a father figure...they're going to love you."
"And I promise that I will treat them no different than Will or Lee. I wouldn't cast them out or make them feel unwanted," Lindsey wiped away her tears
She nodded. "Thank you...I knew you wouldn't."
"I do hope you realize that I won't be in the delivery room."
She paused for a moment. She hadn't even thought about that.
"I mean I will, but I'm not are how comfortable that will be for you with Joe and I in there," Lindsey explained
She nodded. "I'll talk to Joe about it, I'd want nothing more than for you to be there but if he doesn't I guess I have to go along with it don't I."
"I don't think it'd be right if I were to interfere in that special moment between you two."
She sighed. "I guess so"
"It'll be alright."
She nodded
"Now, let's get some sleep," he chuckled, lightening the mood
"Yes sir." She joked
Lindsey surprisingly passed out before Stevie did, she didn't realize how much he was suffering over this. Constantly comforting her day and night while taking care of the house and the kids
She felt bad about how much pressure he was under. She started trying to think of something she could do for him to show him how much she appreciated his help
Sleep was the most reasonable option at the moment; needing to think clearly after some rest
They both ended up sleeping longer than they had planned. When they woke up it was already 5 o'clock
"Hey," Lindsey rubbed his eyes
"Hi.." She answered groggily
"You would like me to make you something to eat?"
"No, you don't have to do that."
"Are you hungry?"
"Well, yeah but you don't have to get it for me..I'll eat something later...no. You know what? I'm going to make us dinner."
"I got dinner, don't worry. I'll get you a snack until I can get it ready," Lindsey sat up
"No, Lindsey, you've been taking care of me forever. Let me do something for you-please."
"As much as I don't like you working, you can do this. I won't smother you anymore," he held up his hands
She grinned wide. "You won't regret it!" She hopped up and went off towards the kitchen
"Don't overwhelm yourself," Lindsey called after her
"Not a chance!"
Lindsey sat back and turned on the TV, entering the kitchen later when he smelled the door cooking. "I'm just gonna grab a beer."
"Don't ruin your surprise!" Stevie quickly shielded the stove.
"Sorry," he chuckled, quickly grabbing his drink and returning to the living room
Only minutes later she came waltzing into the living room.
"Ready?" He smiled, standing up
She nodded, "Yep, BUT-you gotta close your eyes!"
"You won't let me fall, will you?" He closed them
"Maybe.."
"I trust you."'
"I'd hope so, we are married you know." She laughed as she lead him into the kitchen.
"Can I open them now?" He smiled
"Open!"
Lindsey opened his eyes and smiled brightly, "Thank you, baby."
"Of course." She stepped up behind him and wrapped her arms around his torso. "I remembered it was your favorite."
"Mmhm, I do hope this is your mother's recipe for lasagna," Lindsey rubbed her hands
"I hope so too-it's been forever since I made it I hope I didn't screw it up."
"Impossible," Lindsey kissed her hand, turning around to capture her lips
She leaned into him wrapping her hands around his neck. Then pulled away abruptly. "Nope, no distractions mister or else this food will go to waste."
"We wouldn't want that," Lindsey pulled her chair out for her
"Such the gentleman." She smiled at him brightly
"Only for my lady," he scooted her chair up once she sat
He leaned down to kiss her cheek before sitting across from her in his own chair
"This seriously looks amazing, Steph. Thank you," he squeezed her hand from across the table
"Well, you've take such good care of me. I had to return the favor. This is my thank you."
"You don't need to repay me, like you said, we're married. It's my job to worry and take care of you," Lindsey replied
She smiled. "How did I get so lucky?"
"I should be asking myself that. Look at you, you're glowing...I've always loved seeing you pregnant," He admitted, smiling softly
She blushed a little then took her first bite of lasagna
"Perfection," Lindsey commented, taking another bite
She smiled, "I highly doubt that, but it did turn out better than I thought."
"It's amazing," he emphasized, "I appreciate you cooking for me."
"It was my pleasure."
"I'll run us a bath after this," Lindsey was so taken by her being so bubbly
"I'd like that, a lot. I'll do the dishes first though."
"Nonsense, you've used plenty of energy cooking. I'll run the bath and then do the dishes, I'll join you when I'm done."
"Lindsey."
"Lindsey nothing. You've done enough. You know how you wanted to do something for me? It's my turn now." She sighed, "But you've already done so much..." He stopped her. "And I will continue to do so in order to take care of you for as long as I live." He looked at her seriously.
"I love you so much," she stood up and walked over to his side of the table, sitting in his lap
He sat his hands on her hips and kissed her deeply.
"I love you too," Lindsey said against her lips
She kissed him again for the longest time until he finally pulled away. "Steves.... I gotta get started on the dishes."
"You promised a bath first," she reminded him, nose to nose
"Well, neither one I can do while you're sitting on me." He chuckled
"Good point," Stevie laughed, standing up and stretching her back
He walked them both up to the room
"I feel so much better," Stevie commented, she felt free.
"I'm glad."
"I know this hasn't been easy for you," Stevie hugged him tightly
He hugged her back. "You're right, but you are definitely worth it."
"I'd do the same for you."
"Well, I'm sorry but according to nature I doubt I'll ever be in your shoes." He laughed
"You know what I mean," she slapped his arm
He shook his head and lifted her up and spun her around. He couldn't get enough of her laughter, it'd been forever since he'd heard it.
"Lindsey put me down!" She cackled
He tossed her onto the bed gently and was over her in seconds tickling her.
"Stop!" She tried to wiggle away from him, laughing until she had to gasp for breath
"Lindsey!" He finally rolled off of her and had to catch his own breath from laughing so hard.
"What was that for?!" Stevie asked
"I needed to hear your laugh." He looked her in the eyes. She wasn't expecting such an honest answer. She smiled at him lovingly
Stevie kissed him gently and held him against her, "I love you."
"I don't know how."
"Easily," she kissed him again
He laughed, "You better let me start that bath or those dishes won't ever get done."
"Can't we just stay in bed," Stevie pouted
He laughed, "Well we could but I don't know how much fun that would be. If you let me draw you a bath there would be candles and warm water.."
"And would you be there too?" Stevie bit her lip
"If you want me to."
"Of course I do," She smiled
"Then I'll be there, as soon as I at least put the plates in the sink." He kissed her nose then sat up.
Stevie watched him from the bed as he prepared her bath, falling totally in love with him.
"Alright, there you go. I'll be back in just a second."
"Thank you," she smiled
He nodded and went down the stairs to the kitchen
Stevie walked over to her dresser, pulling out a red silk nightgown and laid it on the bed. She undressed and headed into the bathroom, sinking in to the warm water
It was only maybe five minute passed when Lindsey finally came back.
He heard her softly humming from the tub
He stepped into the bathroom and spoke, "What are you humming?"
"Just something I came up with. It's for the baby, you know I've written songs for all of my children."
He smiled, "I know, and they're always great."
"My best work," she agreed
"Without a doubt."
"Would you join me?" Stevie asked, gesturing toward the bath
"I'm working on it." He lit one last candle, undressed and finally joined her.
Stevie relaxed against him, "I'm starting to ache," speaking of the extra weight and fluid she had started to carry around
"I'm sorry baby." He rubbed her arms gently.
"It comes with growing a child," she shrugged
"Doesn't mean it's pleasant-let me know if there's ever anything I can do for you baby.."
"Will you give me a massage when we get out?"
"Your wish is my command." She laughed at him. "Thank you baby."
"You know, I think that we need a vacation, don't you? The kids have suffered from what's been going on so I believe that everyone will benefit from it," Lindsey proposed
"That sounds wonderful."
She turned around to look at him with a wide smile spread across her face.
"Let the kids choose where," Lindsey suggested
She laughed a little. "We may end up in Neverland but I don't think that would be too bad."
"Anywhere," Lindsey held her against him
She quietly ran her hand over his chest in a repetitive pattern. Almost making herself fall asleep.
"I love you, baby," He kissed the top of her head
"I hope so, we've been together this long-I'd hate to think I'm just that good of a cook."
"That's a bonus," Lindsey smiled
She laughed, "Or a curse"
"You're a very good cook."
"Psst, flatterer."
He shrugged and kissed her neck
"You're the best flatterer I've ever known though."
"I would hope so."
She giggled.
"It's so quiet without the kids," he mentioned
"Tell me about it"
"I love them but it's nice to be just us sometimes."
"Definitely."
"Well the water is getting cold," Lindsey shivered
"Why don't we go to bed."
"Sounds lovely."
They got out of the tub and made their way to bed.
Lindsey smirked when he saw her nightgown, "Is this for me?"
"No one else."
"I hope not," Lindsey kissed her
She wrapped her arms around his neck and leaned into him
"I appreciate it," he nipped at her nose
She giggled, "Well that's what I was going for."
"You should change," he suggested
"Why?"
"Into your gown, I want to see you in it," Lindsey said impatiently
"Well," she backed away from him slowly. "You have to be patient." She picked up the gown off the bed and went in the bathroom to change into it.
Lindsey dressed into flannel pants and laid back on the bed
She opened the bathroom door.
"You look amazing," he sat up
She playfully leaned against the door frame.
"I might attack you if you do that," Lindsey smirked
She laughed then proceeded to the bed sitting down beside him.
He couldn't help but to touch her lower back, "How about that massage?"
"Alright, that sounds great."
He handed her a pillow to put under her belly, "I need you slightly on your stomach."
"Yes sir."
Lindsey helped her roll over and adjust the pillow, "Good?"
"Uh huh."
"Not squishing Bub, are we?" He smiled
"Nope!"
"Alright," he nodded, starting to rub her shoulders
"That feels SO good, thank you baby."
"My pleasure," he leaned down and kissed the back of her neck
"Lindsey..."
"What?"
She laughed "I don't even know."
"Let me go my job," he shushed her
She giggled, "whatever you say."
"Just relax," rubbing down her back
She sighed contentedly.
"What bothers you the most?"
"My hip...I strained it the other day picking up Lee and putting her in bed."
"I'll take care of that," he said softly, scooting down to kiss her hip and slowly moving his hands over it skillfully
"Thank you sweetheart."
"You're welcome."
She let him continue for the longest time until her ribs were starting to hurt from laying on her stomach.
"Let's get you on your back," Lindsey rolled her over gently, cradling her like a child
She looked up at him lovingly
"I can't even describe what I am feeling toward you right now," he kissed her forehead, his heart almost exploding with emotion
"I could say the same to you."
"I'm so sorry for walking out on you," he started to softly cry, holding her against him
She tried to comfort him. "Shh...it's okay..it's all okay now.."
He pressed his forehead to hers, "I love you."
"I love you too."
"I need to speak to you about something tomorrow. I'm not ruining this moment."
She raised her eyebrow. "What? No, Lindsey, talk to me."
"In the morning," he laid down with her on top of him
"Lindsey..."
"Baby, I want to spend time with you, peacefully."
She put some space between them. "We can have a civil conversation."
"I know we can...in the morning," he pulled the blanket over him
"Lindsey!" She raised her voice a little.
"Baby, relax."
"No, Lindsey I am not a child..please just tell me what you want to talk about."
"Dammit I shouldn't have said anything," he sighed, sitting up
She slid off of him and sat beside him. "Look, I'm sorry I yelled at you but you gotta talk to me Lindsey:"
"I said that I was!"
She got quiet and sighed heavily. "I'm sorry."
"Now else could either ruin a perfectly good night or have it out in the morning," he replied in frustration
She placed her hand gently over his arm. "I'm sorry Lindsey..we can talk about it in the morning..."
He nodded and pulled the blanket back over him, turning his back to her
"Did I ruin it already?"
"You didn't ruin it, I did," Lindsey responded
"So it is ruined?"
"Yes, Stephanie, it is ruined," he snapped
She just stared off into space for a moment and nodded. She got up out of the bed and put her robe on, then left the room.
Lindsey had waited for her to come back almost ten minutes. "Shit," he cursed, getting out of bed to find her
He slowly made his was out of their room and down the steps.
"Stevie?" He called out
He heard a glass shatter in the kitchen and he quickly ran around the corner finding her cleaning up the remaining pieces of her coffee mug. She glanced up at him. "I'm sorry.. You startled me.."
"Don't touch it, I'll get it," he rushed over, picking her up and carrying her out of the glass field. Lindsey grabbed the broom and dustpan, sweeping it up carefully.
She watched him quietly from the doorway.
"Please tell me that you were not going to fill that mug with wine."
She bit her lip and hesitated a moment. "Of course not."
"Mmhm, sure," he nodded
She glared at him.
"You're body; do what you want," Lindsey put everything away. "Make good choices," he called over his shoulder as we walked back to the bedroom.
She yelled after him. "Screw you too!"
"Well you're not gonna do it," he replied
Her jaw dropped and she immediately broke down. Sliding against the wall in tears.
Stevie heard the bedroom door slam
She flinched then sobbed into her hands.
Everything always seemed to go to hell with them!
Time stood still for her, she felt like they'd been here before. Deja vù.
Lindsey came stomping down the stairs soon after, an overnight bag in his hand.
She jumped up and ran in front of the door.
"Move," Lindsey refused to make eye contact
"No! You're not leaving!" She braced herself in front of the door
"I need to take care of something," he tried to step around her
"Lindsey. Please." She was whispering now her voice was giving out.
"Just for tonight."
"Lindsey."
"Stevie, I'm not in the mood," he emphasized
"You were no less then an hour ago!"
"Move!" Lindsey shouted
She winced but stayed where she was.
"Stevie!"
"I'm not moving, I'm sorry I ruined our night and I'm sorry that we've yelled at each other but you can't just leave Lindsey!"
Lindsey picked her up and made them switch places, swinging the door open
"Damnit Lindsey! Stop!" She ran after him
"Go back inside."
"Where are you going?!"
"To take care of something."
"Tell me what the hell that means!"
"It means that I am going to tell Kristen that she has to find someone else to donate sperm!"
She froze.
"Don't act surprised, I already told you that I agreed to help her."
"Yeah but that's just it, you agreed to it. What made you change your mind?"
"You," he said simply, getting in his car.
She just stood there as he started his car, shocked.
"Wait until tomorrow, I'll come with you."
He looked at her strangely, shaking his head.
"Please?"
He banged his fists against the steering wheel out of frustration. "Why do you do this to me??"
"Do what? I just want to be there for you!"
"You want me then you don't! I can't keep up with you!"
"Just leave," Stevie was done
He hopped out of the car and slammed the door shut. "See!! Damnit! I LOVE YOU STEVIE! I really do! But you change your mind every ten minutes! Just tell me what you really want!"
"I thought that it was obvious that I wanted you!" She shoved him
He ran up and grabbed her and kissed her.
She kissed him back hungrily
He hugged her tight
"Come on," she tugged him inside
He followed her
"I really need you right now, because if you leave I know that I will drink," Stevie gripped his collar
"Stevie."
"Please take my mind off of it".
He only nodded
She took him to the living room and laid back on the couch
It didn't take long for things to get heated.
"Stevie," he pulled away, she still continued to kiss his neck and attempt to unbuckle his belt, "baby this isn't right."
He pushed her away gently. She sighed, frustrated, "Lindsey..."
"I'm not going to let you take advantage of this so you can forget about drinking. I'm not doing it," Lindsey stood up
She looked up at him like a deer in headlights. "It's not just about that.."
"Then what is it about?" He asked
"I love you."
"I love you too, but I don't want it like this," Lindsey sat back down
She looked down at the floor
"I'll love on you but I won't make love to you," he placed his hand on her leg
She brushed it off, then snuggled up beside him burying her face into his neck.
"Look at me," he nudged her
She looked up at him slowly.
"Please don't think that I don't want you," he cupped her cheek
She nodded. "I understand..."
"Thank you," he kissed her forehead
She cuddled back against him.
"What would you like to do? Watch a movie?"
"We can."
"What would you like to see?"
"Something relaxing, funny, a chick flick that's not too sad but not too stupid-nothing serious. The atmosphere's too heavy already."
"Water boy?" He chuckled, "that's all I can think of....but I can't imagine Stevie Nicks enjoying Water Boy."
She thought for a second, "Well...I've never seen it..?"
"Won't hurt to try," he shrugged, digging through the adult movie drawer
She giggled a little. "What? You think I'm picky?"
"I know you are."
"Alright I see your point," she held up her hand
He smiled at her and they both could feel the tension leaving the room
"Prepare yourself," Lindsey warned as he put the movie in
She laughed at him
By the end of the movie Lindsey had passed out with his head in Stevie's laugh, not being the night owl that she was
Despite his joking she actually thought the movie was pretty entertaining.
She'd never tell him that though, he'd take too much credit for opening her mind!
She played with his hair as he slept
She'd always joke about how much of a child he was, truth is that's she loved it. She found him exceptionally adorable when he was asleep.
She leaned down and kissed his head, smiling.
He was always her biggest baby or so she called him that
He eventually started to wake.
"Hey baby."
"Hey."
"How long was I asleep?"
"Not long"
"Sorry, how was the movie?"
"Eh, it was okay."
"I knew it wasn't Stevie Nicks material," Linsey sat up
She slapped his arm. "Oh shut up."
"Make me," he mocked like a child
She leaned over and kissed him.
"I regret saying no earlier," he chuckled
She shook her head at him. "Uh-huh."
"What's my punishment?"
"Absolutely nothing. Well.....I may be somewhat of a tease.." She smiled coyly
"Hm," he turned his nose up
She laughed at him. "Your fault."
"Not true," he poked her belly
She laughed. "Sure.."
"Your mother is difficult, do you hear me?" Lindsey spoke to her stomach
She rolled her eyes
"Don't deny it."
She just started laughing at him
Lindsey chuckled and kissed her head, "I think it's time for Bub to hit the hay."
She yawned a little. "I guess so."
"And Mama too," he stood up, offering his hand to her
She took his hand and shook her head. "I am pretty tired."
Lindsey scooped her up in his arms and walked toward the stairs
"Don't hurt yourself."
"I got you," he kissed her cheek
She smiled at him.
"Want me to bring you water or something?" He asked as he placed her on the bed
"I'm good."
"Alright, I'm going to stay up a little longer," he kissed her forehead
"Without me?"
"I won't be long," Lindsey assured her
"Don't be."
Lindsey walked downstairs, filling his glass with whiskey and pulling out a sonogram from its hiding spot. All he wanted was a baby...now his wife was pregnant with one that wasn't even his.
He downed the glass quickly
"Fuck it," he sighed, picking up the bottle and drinking straight from it
He downed over half the bottle in just a few short chugs
Lindsey sighed, tucking the picture away and putting the bottle back in the cabinet
He clumsily stood up and began back up the stairs to their room
He made a b-line for the bathroom, brushing his teeth and returned to bed with Stevie
"What were you up to?"
"Just had a beer and fixed a sandwich. I wasn't ready to sleep."
She looked at him skeptically but nodded. "Well, I'm glad you're back."
"Was I gone that long?" He chuckled
"Too long."
"Sorry," he pulled the blanket over himself
"It's alright, you're back now."
"Goodnight," Lindsey rolled onto his stomach
"Night"
She stayed awake, listening to him peacefully snore, wondering what in the hell he was doing
Eventually she couldn't take just lying there anymore so she got up to go get a midnight snack
She could see the wet out line from the bottom of the glass on the table
She sighed heavily
Why the hell was he drinking?
She shook her head
Lindsey was still passed out in bed when she returned
She sat beside him and nudged him
"Hmm?" He turned his head to fave her, eyes still closed
"I need to talk to you."
"Mmkay," Lindsey nodded
"Lindsey, please. Listen to me."
"Stevie it's past midnight," groaning as he rolled onto his side
"Well if you weren't drunk it'd be easier."
"Stevie, don't start," Lindsey whined
She pulled on his arm until he turned over all the way to face her. "I wish you'd talk to me."
"About what? I'm not shitfaced drunk am I? I just had a little," she could tell that he was getting very defensive
"But why?"
"Because I wanted to."
She was silent for a second. "You could've just laid here with me?"
"Yea," he said simply, "goodnight."
"Lindsey please, honey talk to me-" he only pulled the pillow over his head. "I'm tired."
"Asshole," she gritted, laying down and turning her back to him
He turned over and ignored her.
"You can sleep in a guest room tonight," she stated
He continued to ignore her.
"Seriously, go." She nudged him in the back with her knee
He stirred a little, irritated, but still remained where he was.
"That's alright" she said simply, getting out of bed and going into the bathroom.
She returned seconds later with a glass of water, pouring in out on him
He immediately jumped up from the bed.
Stevie picked up his pillow and threw it at him, "Out!" She pointed toward the hallway
"Bitch." He muttered as he turned to walk out. "What did you call me?"
"I called you a bitch," he retreated boldly
She felt like they'd been here before. She knew they had. It seemed though that they had taken one step forward and three steps back all in one day.
"Maybe I am, but I will not have you lying to me about drinking more than just beer when you denied me by not taking my mind off of it."
He glared at her and almost spoke but just walked out instead.
Stevie laid back down in bed, feeling pressure on her lower abdomen almost like she was about to start her cycle.
She sat up to see if it was just the position she was lying in but the pressure was persistent. She began to worry a little.
"Lindsey?" She called out for him, receiving no response. Maybe she could take a hot bath to relieve some of the tension?
She decided to try.
Stevie carefully stood and cradled the bottom of her small bump as she made her way into the bathroom and began to run her bath. "I'll get us settled in a minute, little one," she spoke her her stomach
Soon the water was ready, she undressed and sat down in it slowly.
Stevie was terrified to move around too much as she laid back, the water seeming to help some.
She gently placed her hands over her stomach
"It's okay," she soothed, starting to become worried. The pain eased but didn't go away completely
She finally decided that something wasn't right as the pain gradually increased. "Lindsey!"
Stevie eased out of the tub and pulled on her robe, stumbling toward the door. Her legs collapsed and she pulled herself to the bed, not able to climb in it. "Please," she sobbed
Lindsey finally turned the corner slowly walking into the room. "What now?" He saw the look across her face. "Stephanie! Are you okay?"
"Something isn't right," she shook her head, cradling her stomach
He immediately was by her side
"Lindsey I can't move," she sobbed
"I got you." He picked her up and placed her on the bed
"Please call 911, I can't lose another baby. I don't know what's going on," Stevie said, being confused and relieved by there being no blood
He grabbed the phone as quick as he could
She was writhing around on the bed in pain
He called 911 then jumped back beside her
Lindsey hated seeing her in such pain, continuously looking down to check for blood
He held her close to him and tried to calm her down. "Shh...calm down honey..please just calm down..the ambulance is on its way."
"Why can't every thing just go right?!"she sobbed
"I don't know! But everything's going to be alright! I promise nothing bad is going to happen!"
"You can't guarantee that!" Stevie curled into a ball, a wave of pain hitting her
Lindsey just continued to try and comfort her. Finally he hard the sirens come blaring down the road
"Baby, they're here," he smoothed her hair from her face
He could hear them rushing up the stairs
"In here!" Lindsey shouted
Three paramedics hurried into the room.
"Please help her, she's in a lot of pain," he begged
"Sir we're going to need you to step back."
"I'm right here," he whispered to Stevie
With the people all around her she couldn't see Lindsey and she started to panic
"Don't leave me, Lindsey!" She kept sobbing
"Mam we need you to calm down." One of the paramedics kept trying to get her to relax.
"I need my husband," Stevie tried to sit up
Pain ran through her quickly as she moved and she screamed in pain as the paramedics kept her from sitting up. Finally one of them moved aside and let Lindsey try and calm her down
"Hey-hey...listen to me. These guys need to do their job and they can't do that when you're like this," he kissed her forehead, "let's calm down okay?"
She was starting to hyperventilate then nodded and started to try and calm herself. She grabbed his hand tightly
"I know that you are scared and i am too, but we need to get you to the hospital," Lindsey pled
She nodded, trying to get a grip on herself.
"We have to go," the paramedic pushed
She finally let his hand go and tried to let the paramedics to their job
"Let's get you on this gurney," the female paramedic smiled softly, offering a sense of comfort
She nodded and let them place her on the gurney
"I'm going to be right beside you," Lindsey held her hand tightly
She took a deep breath
The ambulance ride to the hospital was extremely stressful, Stevie and Lindsey praying for the baby. "Call Joe."
He called Joe as soon as he got the chance.
"Hello?"
"Joe, it's Stevie, she's in pain. We're at the hospital."
"Is the baby alright?!"
"We don't know yet, just get here as soon as you can."
"I'm on my way," he hung up
Lindsey turned is attention back to Stevie
"Someone please tell me what's going on," Stevie begged
"We won't be able to really know anything until we get to the hospital mam I'm sorry but it's just a few more minutes."
"I don't hurt anymore...are they gone?"
Everyone's hearts broke at her words.
"Lindsey? Why is no one answering?" She sounded so defeated
He only hung his head. "No one knows Steph, no one knows"
Arriving at the hospital was nothing but bitter, she flashed back to losing her child, now potentially losing another....
Authors Note: sorry for mistakes! I tried to catch some of them! And sorry that it is so long! I didn't really know where to end!
