Homecoming
Will was released from the hospital as his pain was managed by strong pain medication to take whenever he needed. Stevie was beside herself with happiness that will was coming home, having Lindsey take her home before Will was released to set up the bedroom for the two of them.
She was going all out with splitting the bed, putting his Spider-Man comforter on his side of the bed and scooting her blanket to the other half of the bed. She had Lindsey's nightstand packed full of boxes of his favorite snacks! Lindsey swore that she was going insane.
Finally he made his way back into the house and Lindsey carried him up to the bedroom
Lindsey carefully laid Will down, not wanting to cause him any pain as his stings were still very painful. "Your mother has requested that I bring you some games and toys, any specific requests?"
Will looked like he was thinking long and hard as if it was the biggest life decision he'd ever make which made Lindsey nearly chuckle.
"I'll give you time to think, I have to help Mommy with dinner and get her settled in with you."
He nodded
Lindsey met Stevie and Lee downstairs, picking up his daughter and holding her tightly as he kissed her head, "I missed my girl."
She wrapped her arms around his neck tightly. "I missed you too daddy!"
"Why don't we have our own fun while Mommy and Will have theirs?" He asked her
She nodded excitedly, "What are we going to do??"
"Anything you want," he stressed
She smiled up at him
He sighed and mumbled"Yes that includes princess tea party."
She giggled. "YAY!"
"Come on, princess. Mommy needs to go upstairs and rest," carrying her over to Stevie as he put Lee down and helped Stevie upstairs
Once she was in their room and situated in the bed with Will he followed Lee back towards her room.
Lee had Lindsey sit down on her bed as she brought over her make up case that Stevie had bought her, "Have you ever had make up on before, Daddy?" Lindsey chuckled and nodded, "A little on stage way before you were born and in some interviews. I'm you'll make me look even better than those times though, won't you?"
She laughed "Well duh!"
Across the hall Stevie and Will were having their own fun
Stevie fake pouted as Will had just beat her at Trouble.
"I won again," he gloated
She shook her head then reached over to tickle him for payback.
Will tried to jerk away, ending up rubbing his legs and stomach in the process. He cried out and laid still to avoid more pain.
Stevie pulled back, instantly regretting her decision. "Will I'm so sorry!"
"It's okay, Mommy," he assured her, slowly moving back into a sitting position
She moved closer to him and smoothed his hair away from his face. "Do you need your medicine?"
He nodded, wiping away some tears, "Don't get up, I got it."
She shook her head and stopped him. "No sweetie, you need to be still. I'll get it."
"Daddy said to rest, so you are going to rest," he demanded seriously, "I can get it."
"William Buckingham, stay right where you are. I mean it." She sat up and swung her legs over the side of the bed just as Lindsey re-entered the room to go to the bathroom.
"Woah now," he eased her back down, "what's the matter?"
She sighed, "Will needs his medicine."
"I meant to leave it on the table," Lindsey cursed himself
"It's fine just get it for him please."
"Right away," Lindsey left to retrieve it from the kitchen
"I'm sorry I snapped at you. I know you're just trying to watch out for me but I'm your mama that's MY job." She turned towards Will.
"I'm sorry," he said quietly, Lindsey returned with his medication
Stevie gave it to him while Lindsey ran and got him a small glass of water
He took it quickly and laid back slowly
"Honey how about me and you take a nap?" She suggested
"You can, I'm tired of sleeping."
She only nodded, "Well...you can snuggle with me right?"
Will carefully scooted over and wrapped his arm around her the best she could
She leaned down to kiss his head then drifted off into a semi-peaceful nap
Back in Lee's room Lindsey was waiting to see the end result of Lee's make up skills
She ended with some bright pink blush and clapped letting him know she was finished
Lindsey looked at himself in the mirror, "Beautiful!"
She giggled. "I know! I'm th best!"
"You definitely are, sweetheart!" Lindsey pulled her to him, "You can't let Mommy see me like this though, she might get angry that my makeup looks better than her's!"
Lee laughed loudly "oh I can do her's too!"
"She might get upset about it, this is our secret," Lindsey whispered, honestly not wanting to get teased by his wife and son.
"Oh come on daddy pleaseeeeeeeeee"
He eventually gave in, not being able to resist her
Lee ran pulling Lindsey behind her into their bedroom
"Mommy! I made Daddy pretty!" She shouted
Stevie woke up abruptly, startled. But when she saw Lindsey she just busted out laughing.
"Don't you like it, Mommy?" Lee asked
Stevie was quick to collect herself, "Oh of course I do baby-you did a wonderful job!"
She smiled proudly, leading Lindsey back to her room as he looked over his shoulder at Stevie
She just shook her head and laughed.
Will sat up slowly beside her, "you're a prettier girl than Daddy."
She looked over at him and hugged him gently. "Well thank you."
"I think it's time for Daddy to come change my thingy," pointing to his stomach
"I can do it sweetheart." She suggested
"I don't want you to get tired."
"Will I'm fine okay, I'm supposed to take care of you. Let me do that."
"Fine," he huffed, "but I'm not getting in to trouble with Daddy."
"You won't! Will is that what this is about? Did daddy say something to you?"
"He said that you needed to rest and that he didn't want you running back and forth from your bed to mine, so that's why I'm in here," he explained
She sighed heavily, "Will..." Lindsey walked in with Lee trailing behind him. "No daddy! You need to wear it all day!"
"All day? But isn't it bad for your skin? That's what Mommy says," he told his daughter
He looked up at them and realized they were in the middle of a serious conversation, he stepped into the bathroom and washed off his face quickly before returning back into the room.
"I need my thingies changed," Will told him
Stevie just bit her lip and looked down. "Oh okay, I'm on it."
Lindsey went to fetch the bandages
Lee followed him out and Stevie looked at Will. "I won't lie to you, I do need to rest but I'm going to do what I can for you okay."
"I don't want you to get hurt because of me," he replied
She grabbed his hand and made him look her in the eye. "No matter what happens nothing will ever be your fault."
"Before I got sick, Daddy and I were mean to each other because I didn't want Mr. Walsh there, then you got upset and I got scared, I thought that if I didn't open the door you couldn't get more upset. I started to feel sick so I opened the door and I don't remember anything after the bath you gave me....did I make you have to rest so much?"
"No! Of course not baby! What did I just tell you! No! Honey I have to rest so much because the baby is having a hard time because of my age... and some other things but you are not one of them."
"Are they gonna die....are you gonna die?" Tears slipped down his face
She hugged him the best she could. "No! No baby! None of that is going to happen! I promise it's not."
Lindsey entered as Stevie wiped away Will's tears, "Everything okay?"
She nodded, "Yeah, we're fine-right buddy?"
Will shrugged and sat up so Lindsey could unwrap the bandage
Lindsey gave Stevie a look and she mouthed "later" to him
Will winced as the gauze left his skin and Lindsey rubbed the ointment onto the sting
He squeezed Stevie's hand tightly.
"I'm sorry, I'm almost done."
Stevie turned her attention from Will's face to his sting and her face flushed and turned green.
She was relieved when Lindsey covered it up, then he had to get the ones on his legs.
She avoided looking at them.
"Do they hurt as bad?" Lindsey asked
He shrugged, "I don't think so."
Lindsey nodded, hurrying to finish his legs so the pain would be over with
Finally he was finished
"Thank you," Will said as Lindsey disposed of the used bandages
He just smiled and ruffled his hair "Of course buddy."
Will settled back down under the blanket and Lindsey left them alone
Stevie ran her hand over his head soothingly until he fell asleep.
Being the obsessive, caring mother she was Stevie retucked him in to bed. "I love you, my sweet boy."
Just then Lindsey re-entered the room. "Hey"
"Hey," Stevie replied softly, not taking her eyes off of Will
Lindsey sat beside her gently and draped his arm over her shoulder.
"I think we need to talk about what you've been telling Will."
He looked at her strangely.
"He's very worried about me. He asked me if the baby and I were going to die."
"I did NOT tell him that." Lindsey was quick to defend himself
"I know-but you did make the whole 'bed rest' thing to be more than it is. He's worried sick when I try to do stuff for him."
He only looked down, "It's true. You know you need to relax and stop stressing. You know it!" He was whispering trying not to wake Will, but he still wanted to make his point
"It's not like I'm carrying him all over the house!" She whispered back, snapping at him, "I just want to keep him comfortable! I wouldn't be stressed if I could just do my job as a mother and take care of my son!"
She put her face in her hands as a few tears fell. Lindsey only rubbed her arms comfortingly. "I'm sorry, I was only trying to make things easier for you." He kissed her head
"I want to help him, this is making me feel helpless!"
"Shh...don't wake him. I'm sorry, I'm so sorry you feel this way. Just think about the baby."
"I am, I'm capable of being a mother and taking care of both of them."
He sighed heavily, "You heard the doctor can't you just take it easy until they're here."
"While Will is like this?"
"Yes. A child has two parents for a reason Steph."
"I am not fighting about this anymore," she said
"It shouldn't be a fight. Will knows you love him, he understands. Why can't you understand?"
"I'm tired of being useless! I put you all through so much shit with the baby and now I can't make it up by taking care of you!" She was yelling now
Will woke up and Lee ran into the room.
"Everyone go back to sleep!"
Lee just stared at her timidly. Lindsey got up and pulled Stevie behind him up to her feet and out towards the hallway. "Lee stay in here with Will while me and mommy talk."
They went into the future nursery and closed door
"What the hell was that!" He tried to keep his voice down but he wasn't really succeeding
"I spoke my mind!" Stevie replied
He tried to hold her but she pushed him back. "Stevie you need to stop, you yelled at the kids!"
"I'm upset!"
"We all are! I'm sorry but you can't just have outbursts like that in front of them! It scares them!"
"Well I'm struggling," Stevie said quietly
He finally convinced her to let him near her and he held her tight. "I know..I know. I'm sorry. I know you're hurting right now...I wish I could help you."
"I just feel so disconnected from this baby! The guilt is eating me alive! And what if something happens and I'll no longer be here-or what if they don't make it!? I can't lose another baby!" Stevie sobbed
All he could do was hold her. He really couldn't say anything. Anything he could said had already been said
"Does that makes me a bad mother?" She sniffled, pressing her forehead to his chest
"No! No baby you're a great mother, great! Don't ever think that! And don't think such negative things!"
"I love this baby-but it's different than with Will and Lee. It's a different kind of love."
Lindsey only nodded.
"It's because you aren't the father."
He finally broke down in tears just holding her tighter.
Lindsey could feel the baby kicking against him
He fell to his knees and looked at her stomach
"Linds?" Stevie rubbed the back of his head
He just looked up at her and shook his head. "I'm sorry..I just.... this is hard..."
She bent over as best she could and kissed his head, "You don't have anything to be sorry for."
He hugged her around her waist
"I'm just stressed about the baby, and it makes me feel good when I can do something for my family-that's why I get upset when I can't help with anything," she explained, gently playing with his curls
He took her hands in his and looked up at her. "I know..I'm sorry, I'm just scared for you."
"I appreciate that, but I'm not going to break."
"You don't know that-you said so a minute ago."
Stevie slumped down on the floor in front of him, "I'm ready for this pregnancy to be over with."
He nodded "I know and we're almost there please just don't fight me on this...it's not that much longer."
"Help me up, I need to get back to Will," she ignored him
He didn't move. "Stephanie Lynn Nicks Buckingham. Please, if you care about me at all listen to me."
"I heard you."
"But did you listen? You and I both know there's a difference."
"Yes," she gritted, in a horrible mood
"Please don't be mad at me." He held her wrists in his hands pleading with her.
"I just want to lay down and be alone right now," Stevie sounded exhausted
He sighed then nodded he stood up and helped her up. He kissed her cheek and they both exited the nursery
"Take Will downstairs for a while," she said quietly before they entered the bedroom
He nodded.
Stevie laid down on her side of the bed while Lindsey took the kids downstairs
She took a deep breath. 'Why do things escalate so fast?'
She could only hope that she could mentally carry on. Every scared her about the situation.
