Deep sh!t

He jumped up and kicked the coffee table over. She shrunk back into her chair with her knees pulled up to her chest crying quietly. "I'm sorry, I made a mistake...." Her sobbing only intensified
"Jo Walsh?! We gotten officially divided and I was tired if being lonely
"Jo Walsh?! Really?! Why would you do thus shit?!" He argued, truly furious
"Lindsey I'm sorry! I just...I just needed some comfort and..he was here and...I'm so sorry! I screwed up!"
"And now you're having his baby," Lindsey gritted through his teeth
She just cried and cried. She didn't know what to say. She knew she'd messed up but she also knew she couldn't fix it.
"So what are you going to do?" He sighed
She looked up at him over her tear rimmed eyes. "I can't get rid of it."
"Adoption?" He suggested
He looked at her sadly. "You want to keep it." It wasn't a question. He knew it was true.
"Yes," she nodded
"And I don't think that it's really any of your business what I do with this baby, it's not yours so it, again, isn't any of your concern. I can do this on my own," Stevie told him
His heart broke but at the same time he was still really upset.
"Now, on to the divorce," she changed the subject
He stopped her. "Woah. Stevie slow down. You're having a baby. That's all you have to say to me?"
"Yes, because that's all I want to say about the subject," Stevie replied
He knelt down in front of her and she wouldn't look him in the eyes. "Steph,"
"What?" She asked softly, fiddling with her fingers
He took her hands in his and she finally looked at him.
"Honey, you're having a baby.. I hate that it's not mine and hate who's it is...but I still love you....and I am happy for you."
A couple of tears slid down her cheeks. "Really?"
He looked down for a minute then back up at her, swallowing his own pride and tears. "Really."
"Thank you, I was so worried that you would throw this Bach in my face," she sniffled, "and I do wish that things were different...I realize now that I haven't been a good mother and that gives you something to use against me in court."
"Oh believe me, I wanted to. I was so mad when Will told me that you were seeing someone and with what you said to me earlier..I was so mad. But there's equal blame here and there's obviously more to it," he said gesturing to her stomach, "I don't WANT to take you to court Stephanie. Or use anything against you. But I do want to be able to see my kids."
"I never would take them away from you, Lindsey! I wouldn't break my family up like that. I am just asking that yo keep Kristen out of the picture until I can explain to them about her without them hating her," she said
"Please don't think that I am it a capable mother, I've just been stress about telling Joe. I mean I'm showing all the normal signs of pregnancy, but I'm scared to take a test...I'm scared to be pregnant again."
He nodded. "I know you're a good mother. You do need to take a test though... I can understand why you're scared but that's all the more reason to find out so you can start going to the doctor to make sure everything's alright."
"D-do you have to go back soon?" Stevie asked
"I don't think so. Why?"
"Would you stay here and watch them while I run to the store? Karen has already left for the night," she winced
"Sure but I could just go for you?"
"I need to get out-if you don't mind?" Stevie winced, she hadn't been away from the house or the kids for months.
He nodded in agreement. "Alright. I'll watch them, are you okay? You seem a little pale?"
"I-I just- I'm fine," she held up her hand and stood up
She stumbled a little and he steadied her. "Stevie? If you're not feeling good you probably shouldn't drive."
"I'll be fine," walking towards the door to grab the car keys. "You know what to do if they wake up."
He let her go warily, with a nod.
Lindsey heard the car start up and pull out of the drive way a few seconds later. His stomach was growling so he went to the kitchen to help himself. He found the old ultrasound pictures and a half empty bottle of wine on the counter...Stevie was drunk.
He cursed beneath his breath and ran out side, praying the kids wouldn't wake up. He jumped in his car and backed out the driveway hoping he'd catch up to her before she did something stupid.
Stevie was just pulling in to the parking lot of the small store, getting out of her car without major problems, just having trouble with the seatbelt
Lindsey pulled up quickly beside her and jumped out. "Are you crazy??"
"Lindsey?" She asked worriedly, looking in the backseat for the kids. "Where are my babies?"
"They're safe at home asleep. While you're out here driving drunk! You think you're pregnant and you get drunk?? Then you drive?!"
"Neither one of us are spotless!" She threw up her hands
He took her by the shoulders trying to shake some sense into her. "STEVIE WAKE UP! YOU ARE A MOTHER OF TWO AND YOU'RE PREGNANT! YOU CAN'T JUST GET DRUNK!"
"Get your hands off me!" She spit in his face
He immediately let her go. "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. But you can't do this Stephanie, please don't."
"I can do whatever I please, you don't own me!" She slapped at him
He took her wrists in his hands to stop her. "Stevie please! I'm not trying to own you! I love you! I don't want to see you get hurt!" He hugged her close.
"Let me go!" She tried to shove him away, kneeing him in the groin and going inside the store
After he'd semi recovered from the pain he stood up and knew he had to disable the car. He felt stupid doing it but it was for her own good, he punctured her tires.
Stevie came out of the store
She saw her tires and flipped out.
"Damn him! How am I supposed to get home?!" She asked frustratedly
He pulled up beside her and honked his horn. "Get in the car."
"I'd rather walk," she spa at viciously
"The kids could wake up any minute come on."
"Then you shouldn't have left them," Stevie sassed, continuing to walk across the parking lot
"It's going to take you an hour to get home, it's dangerous to walk alone in this part of town! You can't be serious! Get in the car! Are you that drunk, that you can't even think about anything sensibly??"
"You take me home, you pay for new tires, and you don't talk to me, got it?"
"Yes, yes, and no. We will talk. Nicely."
"I have nothing to say," she sat in the passenger seat
"I do," he put the car in gear. "Buckle up."
Stevie huffed and buckled her seat belt, clutching the grocery bag tightly
"You need to take that when we get home."
"Yea, no shit."
"I said we need to talk nicely."
"And I suggested not to talk at all," Stevie replied
"Not an option"
"Then talk."
"When we get home. After you take the test."
"No sir, you are not going to be there for that," she shook her head
They pulled into the driveway and he locked all the car doors before she could bail. "I'm not leaving until you do. This is still half my house and I'm definitely not leaving you alone tonight period. Do you understand me?@
"What will Kristen think?" Stevie asked
"I don't care."
"I don't want her calling."
"She won't." She stared him down a moment before she jerked at the door handle. "Okay, let's go."
He unlocked the doors.
Stevie took her time getting out and walking inside, procrastinating with taking the test. "I'm going to make us something to eat. Go check on the kids," Stevie announced
"It's late and if you're hungry then fine but I already ate. Maybe you should check on the kids...they miss you."'
"Or am I too drunk to make it up the stairs?" She shot at him
He sighed, "I don't know, you tell me."
"Fine." Stevie stumbled up the stairs and to the children's rooms
Lindsey following close behind to make sure she was alright. He watched her from the doorway and listened, out of sight.
She kneeled down beside Will's bed, softly humming to him as she gently maneuvered on of his new toys from the zoo out from under his arm. Stevie softly smiled as his little nose crinkled when she kissed it. "I'm so sorry," she whispered.
He opened his eyes a little. "Mommy?"
"Yeah baby. I'm right here." She tucked his blanket around him tight. "What are you doing?" She smiled at him and answered, "Just taking care of my baby boy."
Will nodded, his eyes trying to stay open until he gave up and fell back asleep. Stevie tucked him back in and pushes his hair out of his face to kiss his forehead. Standing up and moving to Lee's room.
She nearly tripped over the pile of Barbie in front the door but steadied herself and kept on.
Stevie turned on her nightlight that Lindsey had forgotten, surprised that her daughter fell asleep without it. Stevie adjusted the blankets as Lee had a tendency to kick them off and kissed her forehead, "I love you, my little gypsy."
As if she had heard her Lee instinctively reached out and grabbed her mothers' hand and cuddled it to her chest as if it were a stuffed animal.
Stevie smiled, giggling lightly and skillfully climbing into bed to cradle her daughter
"My little baby..." She thought about the baby that may be in her stomach and her heart beat a little faster, she held Lee tighter. She thought about the alcohol on her breath that she could smell now and it almost made her sick. Was she really that stupid?
Stevie kissed Lee one last time and gently placed her back down. "I know you're there, Linds," she whispered
He came out from around the door and smiled at her weakly. "Are you ready?" He held the grocery bag in his hand. She took a deep breath and stood back up and walked over to him nodding. "No but I can't just wait and see about this now can I.." She took the bag from him and they both exited Lee's room quietly then shutting the door. They both went back into their old room and shut the door.
"Um, I have your things packed over there in the corner if you want to put them in your car while I take care of this," Stevie said
He nodded. "Okay...um, alright. I'll be here if you..I'll be here if you need me..." He said awkwardly. She smiled at him appreciatively. "I know."
Stevie took a deep breath and closed the bathroom door behind her as she took the test out of the bag
She just stared at the box for the longest time until she couldn't wait any longer. She took the test out and took it.
Setting it on the counter she returned to the bedroom to help Lindsey with his things, hoping to pass the time quickly. She grabbed a box and proceeded to the stairs
Lindsey stopped her on the stair case. "Woah, woah. I got that. I got it. You don't need to be doing this." She looked at him funny. "Lindsey, I might not even be pregnant. I can do this."
He shook his head, "That's not even what I'm talking about. What about your incision? You can't stretch it. It takes months to fully heal."
"It's fine, it doesn't really hurt anymore," Stevie insisted. "At least let me pack them in your car, you can carry them down."
He nodded as he took the box from her. "Alright, as long as you feel up to it. Come on." She followed him out to his car.
Stevie had turned very quiet since leaving the bathroom, he knew that she was scared about telling Joe and raising three kids on her own if the test was positive.
After all the boxes were loaded they both just stood there for a moment. Lindsey opened his arms and she stepped into them burying her face in his chest.  "It's all going to be okay. I promise. I'll be honest with you cause I think you already know, Joe probably won't stick around for this. And I know you don't want me around but I am if you ever need me, okay?" He felt her nod and he rubbed her back soothingly. "How long will it be before the test is ready?"
"It should be ready by now," Stevie answered, sniffling and tilting her head up to look at him. "I won't let you raise a child that isn't yours."
His heart broke. "I won't let you raise a child alone."
"Lindsey, this could tear your relationship apart with Kristen, think of all the children she could give you," he was stunned at her words, why would Stevie care about that?
"Stevie, what makes you think I want to have children with her? I already have children. Two beautiful little babies with the love of my life and I f this could tear us apart then I guess our relationship isn't meant to be."
"Lindsey I'm not ready to let you back in my life like that," she shook her head
He stopped her. "I know. I know, we might not ever get to that point again. So much has happened...but I still like to hope. I'll always hope. I might hope till I die. I just want you to know that. But I'm here for you in anyway you'll have me."
"Just...the father of my children for now, okay?" She asked, squeezing his hand
"I'll take that." He kissed her forehead.
"Thank you," she said softly, avoiding his eyes and turning to go back inside
He followed closely behind her and they eventually got back up to the bedroom
"Lindsey," she looked up at him, biting on her nails
He took her hand in his and nodded. "I'm right here, go on."
Stevie took a shaky breath and nodded, walking into the bathroom, he heard her yelp and sob second later
He ran in after her, pushing door open.
She lunged at him, clinging to him tightly
He held her as close as he could. "Shh....it's alright. It's all going to be alright."
"What if he wants it?" She sniffled, looking up at him
"We'll cross that bridge when we get to it."
"C-could y-you come over t-tomorrow?" She asked, needing him to watch the kids while she broke the news to Joe
He nodded, "Of course, I told you, I'll be here for you whenever you need me."
"Thank you," she sniffled, backing away and glancing down at the test, throwing it in the trash can
He took her face in his hands. "Hey, look on the bright side, sweetheart, you're having a baby!" He tried to cheer her up, wiping her tears away with his thumbs.
"Just with the wrong man," she shrugged, and turned away, "am I a terrible person for finding it hard to be happy about this?"
He wrapped his arms around her shoulders from behind. "Honestly, no. I was livid when you told me but you can't blame the baby...they're a part of you just as much as they're a part of him and I already love them for that."
"You love them?" She faced him, tears in her eyes
"Of course I do."
Stevie was absolutely speechless, her emotions getting the best of her...so she kissed him
At first he was completely open to the idea-he'd missed her so much, he wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her closer. Both of them getting lost in the moment, then suddenly he pulled back. "No, no. We can't... I can't let you do this...you're not thinking straight right now, you're still drunk, you're pregnant, you're emotions are everywhere.. We just can't.."
"You said you loved me?" She whimpered
"Of course I love you!" He sensed he'd hurt her feelings but he couldn't let her do something she'd regret. "Sweetheart I'd die for you, but I can only be with you again when I know that that is completely what you want. When I know you won't regret it."
"Then please go," she turned away from him, walking towards the bedroom door and opening it for him.
"You want me to take advantage of you??"
"I just want to feel something again!" She replied
"Shh! You'll wake the kids!" He warned and she shut the door, sliding against it to sit on the floor. "You are feeling Steph, you're feeling way too much...that's why you're here. Right? You were alone-he was here. I'm not going to take advantage of you like that. Never. I'll be here and whenever you really want me because you love me, not because you're lonely. Do you realize I've told you I've love you almost a thousand times tonight and how many times have you said it? I can't remember you ever saying once. That's okay though, we've been through a lot. We're not there yet. I respect that." He sat beside her and wrapped her in his arms.
"I don't I don't know what I feel anymore, Linds," she looked up at him. "I want you here one moment and the next it's like I am perfectly at peace with you being gone because I don't have to worry about you being with Kristen or doing things you aren't supposed to. Joe was my one moment of weakness and now I am stuck with this child and I already know he isn't going to want them. I mean I'm pretty much screwed right? I don't mean to take it out on my children but I'm alone and i just can't sit and journal anymore because I have to take one the responsibilities that you left. I'm wearing myself out and I just turn to alcohol or whatever will make me feel better," she sobbed, letting out all of her emotions.
He held her as close as he possibly could, feeling her unravel. "This is all my fault, I'm so sorry angel. If I hadn't of screwed up when we lost the baby then we'd be alright. None of this would've happened. I don't want you to feel alone, I want more than anything to be here for you all the time. What I said earlier was bull-I don't want to move forward with Kristen I want to be with you! I don't want you to wear yourself out or drink or have to do more than you should. It's not right and you can't risk hurting the baby...and trust me I'm here for you either way, but especially if Joe leaves you on your own. I will never let you be lonely again-do you hear me?"
Stevie nodded, incapable of composing herself. And as if on cue, Lindsey's phone began to ring, Kristen's name flashing across the screen.
He threw his phone across the room.
"L-Lindsey," Stevie sobbed, looked at him strangely
"Kristen." She buried her head in his neck, sobbing even more.
Stevie slowly stood up and held her hand out to help Lindsey do the same
He stood up.
"Please be gone before the kids wake up," she told him, picking out a nightgown to wear and entering the bathroom
"Stevie?"
"Yes?" She poked her head out from around the door
"Where do we stand now?"
"The same as the last five months," she replied
She watched his face drop and immediately felt bad. "Stevie, we just poured our hearts out to each other-" he stopped himself. "Nevermind. You're right, you call the shots. Just know I'm not going back to Kristen when I leave here..and I really do love you."
"Go to her, because I am in no position to love you right now. There are somethings that I need to sort through and figure out," Stevie replied, "please take the kids for the next few days, they can be around Kristen or whatever you please. I need to be alone and make a few arrangements," Stevie said
"I'm not going to her. Whether I'm alone the rest of my life I will wait for you. What kind of arrangements are you talking about?"
"That's none of your concern right now," Stevie told him, Lindsey shaking his head, "Nothing around here seems to be any of my concern."
"That's right. It's not." He corrected her,
"But it is. Stevie, I have a bad feeling...promise me this and I will take the kids for a few days."
"What?"
"Promise me you're not terminating?"
"Of course I'm not terminating! I cannot lose another child!" She said
"Okay, I just needed to be sure, just...whatever you're doing, be careful. Don't do something you'll regret. If you need me, call me."
"I will," Stevie said, returning back to the bathroom and continuing her routine
"Stevie!" She opened the door again, irritated. "What??"
He hugged her briefly and said, "I just wanted to say goodbye."
"You can stay the night, but like I said, leave before the kids wake up. It's getting late and I don't want you driving," Stevie hugged him back.
"Alright, I'll do that."
"I'm almost done in here and your toothbrush is where it always is," Stevie closed the door again and returned a few minutes later
He went in the bathroom and got ready for bed, and came out a few minutes later
"I...um, would you...stay in here?" Stevie asked shyly
"I was hoping you'd ask." He smiled a little. Then joined her in the bed.
"Thank you," she laid her head on his chest and rested her knee on his hip
He shuddered a bit. "You're a tease." She laughed. "Sorry, old habits die hard."
"Yea," he wrapped his arm around her and kissed the top of her head.
She spoke softly, "I'm sorry I've been so cold to you lately.."
"That was nothing compared to what I've done to you," Lindsey replied
"But still, I said so many hateful things.. Whether you deserved it or not. I do regret it."
"Stevie I physically hurt you. You had every right to say the things you did." Lindsey looked down at her
She just snuggled closer to him, "Well, regardless, it's in the past. Hopefully the worst is behind us now..."
"It is," Lindsey yawned, pulling we closer and falling asleep
Sleep didn't usually come for Stevie lately-it usually just taunted her. But tonight it came fast and easy. She felt safe and loved and cared for and peaceful.
