25. Patience
(Shouto POV.)
God my body is exhausted. I finally made it here.. It took less time than I thought it would. I might've pushed myself too far though... Looking down at my palm as I rush into the hospital I can see light burns all over it..
I storm to the front desk, out of breath and probably looking like a total mess from my day. "Momo Todoroki. Where is she at? How is she doing?" I question, mildly calm since I'm trying to catch my breath.
The woman types into her computer before looking back at me. "She's on the third floor, but is still in the birthing room- Hey! Todoroki! You aren't allowed in there though!"
I rush to the stairs and run up them to the third floor. I'm not wasting any time waiting around for the elevator. Now that I'm up here I need to find which room she's in and her condition.
"Hey!" I call out to a group of nurses down the hall.
They all turn and get wide eyed as they look at me. "Todoroki?"
"It's Todoroki!"
I quickly approach them and they seem like they'll be more than willing to help. "I'm here for my wife. I need to know which room she's in and her condition," I inform them.
"Oh. Creati- I mean, Mrs. Todoroki is in room 309. But she's still in labor. You're not allowed in," one of them tells me.
"We can escort you to the waiting room, and then we can get more information on her condition for you," another says.
I guess this is all they can do for now. If something was wrong they probably would have informed me. "Alright. Thank you," I calmly say, relieved that I'm here and closer to her now.
"Right this way."
I follow them down the hall and around a corner. They lead me to an open area with numerous chairs and couches. There's also a long counter that separates the waiting room and another room and there's several more nurses and doctors working over there.
"Take a seat and we'll check on your wife's status," one kindly says to me.
"Thanks again," I say, taking a seat and watching them walk to the counter.
I look down at my left hand, seeing that it's starting to blister a little. I hold my other hand over it and chill the temperature, cooling my left down. It feels a little better, but it's definitely started hurting more now that my adrenaline has subsided..
"Todoroki." I look up and see the nurse coming back over to me. "She is naturally having them. A cesarean wasn't necessary, but the twins haven't been born yet."
"Okay.. How is Momo doing though? Is she okay?"
"As okay as one can be while giving birth," she nervously laughs. "The first baby is starting to crown now, but that doesn't mean she won't be in there for a few more hours. This process might last awhile, but it could also go by quickly. Only time will tell. Just be patient and understanding," she confidently tells me. "The doctors are doing their best for her."
I nod, acknowledging that I heard. "I understand. Thank you."
"Also, I sent for some ointment and bandages for your hand," she informs me, looking down at my burnt palm. "We'll get that taken care of for you."
"Oh. Thank you.."
"It's no problem. This is a hospital after all."
She leaves, probably going back to work. Guess I've got nothing to do but wait... I pull my phone out as I wait for the nurse to get the stuff for my hand. I should probably inform Mom and Momo's parents... They were wanting to know when it was happening.
I dial Mom's number and she answers almost immediately. "Shouto. How are you doing?"
"Good as I can be.. I'm at the hospital right now. Momo went into labor a few hours ago.. I just got here though."
"It's happening? Are they born yet?"
"Um.. Not yet. I was told that one is starting to, uh, come out.. And they said it could still be awhile."
"Do you want us to come and be there with you? Fuyumi and I are still in Tokyo right now but we can hurry over," she offers.
"No. I think I'm okay. You guys can finish with your day together and I can let you know once they're born. It is getting late, and I don't know how long this'll take."
"If that's what you want. I'll inform your sister once we're done. If I told her now she would drop everything for you," she says with a small laugh.
"I know. Thanks, Mom. I'll call you later."
"Alright. Good luck, sweetheart. I love you"
"Love you too.."
I hang up and sigh as I look down at my phone. Maybe I'll give Momo's parents a call after they're born. They're both super busy people and don't need distractions right now.. And then there's also him...
I open my message box as a different nurse comes over to me. "I can take care of that hand now, Todoroki," she tells me.
I send my simple message and put my phone away. "Thanks," I reply, holding my hand out so she can help.
She applies the burn ointment and it feels better and starts to visibly heal already. After a short moment she carefully and firmly wraps my hand up. "There we go. You should be able to take the wrap off tomorrow morning, and then thoroughly clean it," she warmly tells me.
"Thank you," I nod at her. She smiles and then lets me be.
I wonder how long this will take.. She's been here for hours already, and I'm just wanting to see her... She was always dreading this part and I'm not even allowed to be in the room with her while it happens... I wasn't even there when she started getting contractions.. Now I'm suddenly thinking of all the possible complications that can happen.. I looked them up when Momo first started fearing them so I could help ease her by telling her the low probability of them not happening... But now... I'm scared...
I've got to try and distract my mind.. Worrying isn't going to do anything but fuck with my head.. I pull my phone back out and open up a list of baby names I've saved. Maybe I'll focus on this.. Momo said we each would name one, so I should probably pick his name out relatively soon.. There's so many options.. I want something that'll sound good with Todoroki..

I'm so bored... It's been nearly an hour and a half and no one is telling me anything.. For all I know the baby is stuck or something... This sucks!
I sit up from where I was laying on the couch and then get to my feet. I'm exhausted and I'm starving.. I think I saw a vending machine down the hall. I know it's not anything like dinner food or an actual meal, but I just need something..
I make my way down the hallway, spotting the vending machine just ahead.. "Okay let's see... Maybe just a bag of chips and a drink for now? A coffee sounds good honestly.."
Pulling out my wallet from a pocket inside my jacket, I suddenly see movement from the corner of my eye. Various nurses and doctors rush past the waiting room. "Did something happen..?"
I shove my wallet in my pocket and run down the hall to try and catch one of them. "Hey! Hey what's going on!?" I shout to them. "That's Momo's room! What's happening!?"
Several people rush into her room and I hear something about blood loss.. More nurses get in my way, blocking me from going in and some of them are pushing me back. "Todoroki calm down! The doctors are taking care of her!"
"You need to wait! You're not allowed inside the room right now!"
"Then tell me what's happening! Is she okay!? What about the twins!?" I yell.
"The twins were born but they're being monitored until Momo is stable-"
"Stable? What's happening to her!?"
"Todoroki, please just calm down-"
"This is bullshit! Tell me what's happening to my wife! I-"
I suddenly feel a pain in my neck and grab at it. My body starts to feel weak.. Like it's relaxing. I turn my head and see a large nurse standing behind me pulling a needle away from my neck. "Wh-what did you.."
"It's a sedative," he tells me. "I understand your frustrations, but they don't know the full situation and yelling at them won't solve anything.."
I focus back at the women and step away. "I.. I'm sorry.."
"Come take a seat and I can update you on your wife's situation."
He helps me back to a chair and I sit down. My body definitely feels relaxed now and my anger and frustrations have left.. "Wh-what's happening to her..?" I question, looking up to him.
"Your wife lost a lot of blood and the bleeding keeps continuing. The doctors in there are trained to handle this exact situation and will get it under control. As for the babies, they both were born and are being monitored by three of the nurses who were assisting with the birth. Once the mother is stable we'll allow them and you to see her."
"What about the boys? I'm their father. Can't I see them?"
He looks over to a group of other nurses before focusing back on me. "That would be okay, but right now your body needs to adapt and absorb the sedative. Right now you're in a state of relaxation that will last about twenty minutes. Once it wears off and you remain calm and let us do our jobs, then we will take you to the other room to see your children."
"Al-alright.. Thanks.."
"Okay. Just sit tight, Hero."
He leaves and I stare at the floor, thinking about how off I went... Momo's safety is my weakness and I know it.. Whenever something involves her that I can't control I lose it... Right now too, there's absolutely nothing I can do. I don't like this feeling at all...
My phone vibrates in my pocket and I pull it out. I tap the screen and see a new text. I open and read it..
Old Man || 11:45pm
» Congratulations on the birth of your children Shouto. I know everything will be okay. Have faith in yourself and your wife.
"Oh yeah.. I texted him earlier..."
Me || 11:46pm
« Thanks
Momo will be okay. I do have faith in her..

The sedative is nearly out of my system now.. I can feel it. I swear I've been staring at the floor this whole time just spacing out... I guess it's been about twenty minutes then..
"Mr. Todoroki." I look up and see yet another different nurse. "Your wife is stable and resting."
"She is? So she's okay?" I question as I get to my feet.
"Yes. She did have some mild tearing during the birthing process, but it'll heal up within the month. She also did lose a fair amount of blood so she's very exhausted."
"Can I see her now? Please. I need to see her."
"Visiting hours are over, but given the circumstances you can go in.. Just don't excite her and make sure you stay calm," she tells me, sternly looking into my eyes.
"Yeah. I got it..."
"Alright then. She also has the twins, so be sure to assist her if you can. And, congratulations," she smiles
"Yeah.. Thank you.."
A/N: They're here, but also not in this chapter >:D I'll try and get the next one out soon.
