02. A Shocking Surprise

(Yaoyorozu POV.)

The hot water rushes over me, I scrub off all the dirt and dried blood I didn't know was coating my body. Today was definitely a hard day. Rescue work always takes it out of me since I have to use my quirk so much, making braces to prop up buildings, creating bandages, crutches, and many other medical supplies... I'm so glad that this attack wasn't as bad as it could have been.

I finish up my shower and get out. I dry off and change into a clean pair of warm clothes I brought with me since it's nearly winter now. I leave the showers and head back to the office to grab my purse that I had left in there. On my way I spot Jirou and Kaminari coming out of the elevator at the end of the long hallway.

"Hey! Momo!" Jirou shouts as she sees me.

I wait by my office door as I see her running over to me. "Good evening Jirou," I politely greet.

"So hey, I saw that monster attack on the news. It said that no one was injured badly and all the Heroes took it down in like twenty minutes," she says as she reaches me.

I open my office door and step inside, turning on the lights. "Yeah. Shouto and Bakugou kept it busy in a large evacuated area until Midoriya came to finish it off," I tell her.

She follows me in and leans in the doorway with her arms crossed. "Damn I wish I coulda been there to help out. Denki and I got caught up across town with some car jackers."

I locate my purse on my desk chair and pick it up, slinging it over my shoulder. "There were more than enough Pros on rescue and evacuation, and Shouto and Bakugou did a great job at keeping it contained," I reassure her.

"Regardless I'd liked to have had a shot at that thing," Kaminari says as he leans against the other side of the doorframe. "A giant rampaging monster! That stuff only happens in movies!" he exclaims.

Jirou elbows him and we all exit my office. I shut the lights off and close and lock the door. "A giant monster isn't something to be excited about Denki," she scolds him.

"What? No one got killed by it and it was kind of cool. It was like godzilla came to life but then got it's ass kicked by Todoroki, Ground Zero, and Deku!" he laughs.

Jirou rolls her eyes and crosses her arms again. "Just don't say any of that near the press, or in public in general."

I chuckle slightly at their unique chemistry. "Alright well I've got to be going," I say as I start to walk away.

"You're leaving already? Where's Todoroki?" Jirou asks.

"He went home already. He's making dinner tonight," I reply.

"Sounds nice. Wish Jamming Way over here would cook every now and then."

"Hey, I tried. And last time I did we had to remodel the entire kitchen," Kaminari replies. "I'll give it a go again if you're nearby with the fire extinguisher this time."

I hear them start to bicker back and forth as I make my way to the elevator. "Anyway," I hear Jirou say loudly to me, so I turn to face her. "We're still on for drinks this Saturday right?"

I grin and nod. "Yes. Shouto and I will meet you there after work," I reply.

The elevator comes and I step inside. I wave goodbye to Jirou and Kaminari as the doors close. I press the button and lean against the wall as my stomach grumbles and starts to ache. "I hope Shouto is done cooking by the time I get home. I'm starving," I mumble to myself.

(Todoroki POV.)

I wish I could have made sukiyaki like I wanted.. When I got home I found out we didn't have any fresh ingredients... I had to run to the store and buy everything I needed for dinner, and more. I basically did a week's worth of grocery shopping... By the time I was done I wouldn't have had enough time to make the sukiyaki so I settled for some beef yakisoba.

It's nearly done and Momo still isn't home yet... I turn away from the pan and check the clock on the wall. "6:30... Where is she?"

As soon as I turn back to finish frying up the meat I hear the door open then close. "Momo?" I call out as I look behind me.

She comes walking around the corner, coated in a light layer of snow. "Sorry I'm late. It started snowing," she tells me.

"I can see that," I chuckle. "Dinner's almost done," I say as I turn back to the meat.

"What are you making?" she asks.

"Beef yakisoba. I would have made us some sukiyaki but we-" I cut myself off as I see Momo rush down the hall. "Momo..?"

I turn the burner off and head down the hall. She went into the bathroom. I knock on the door and listen for a response, but instead I hear her throw up. "Momo? Are you okay?" I ask. "Did you get sick?"

The toilet flushes but she doesn't open the door. "I think so... I was feeling nauseous today and I guess it finally caught up with me," she replies.

"Do you think you can still eat dinner? I can make you something else if you want."

"I'll just have the yakisoba without any meat."

"No meat? Okay... I'll go get our plates dished up then. Come out when you're ready."

I leave the bathroom door and go back to the kitchen. "This sucks..." I say as I hold my head. "She hasn't been sick like this in nearly three years. I don't think she'll be up for any hero work tomorrow if it keeps up."

I dish up two plates of food, one with meat and one without. I take our food over to the kotatsu in the living room. I set them on the tabletop and sit on the floor, tucking my legs under the blanket. I turn the TV on and flip it to the news as I wait for Momo.

The news is going over the monster attack that we delt with earlier. It's playing reruns of Midoriya taking it down. "I have a feeling this'll be on for the next few days..." I mutter.

(Yaoyorozu POV.)

As soon as I stepped into the house I got this overwhelming aroma that flipped my stomach upside down. I tried my hardest to ignore and suppress it, but it came out anyway. I've been sitting on the bathroom floor for nearly ten minutes now, feeling weak and queasy. But, I'd better get up and go eat before the food Shouto made gets too cold. Maybe eating will help.

I get to my feet and rinse my mouth out at the sink before opening the door. The scent I had smelled earlier has mostly disappeared, but I can still smell it lingering. "Ugh... What is wrong with me? When did I even catch something?" I grumble as I head to the living room.

I walk past Shouto and sit on the other end of the table. "Are you feeling better?" he asks as I situate myself under the kotatsu's blanket.

"I think so. I think some food will help." I start to eat, and I can feel Shouto's eyes on me. I glance up and see him watching me as he eats. "I said I'm fine Shouto. You don't need to worry," I say with a small smile, trying to reassure him that I'm okay now.

"It's just, you haven't been severely sick like this in a few years.. How did you catch this bug?" he asks.

"I don't know," I sigh. "We are out and around a lot of people almost all day. I could have easily just picked it up from someone..."

"Hmm... I guess... Do you still want to watch a movie? It might be better for you to just go to bed and get some rest."

I shake my head. "No. Tonight is our night to spend together. I'm feeling better already. We should watch a movie," I say with a smile.

"Okay... If you're sure."

(Todoroki POV.)

We finished eating and the entire time I kept my eye on her. She did seem better but every now and then she'd make this face, like something disgusted her. I didn't want to ask and bother her about it more since she seemed to not want to talk about it. Once we were done I cleaned up the kitchen and put the leftovers away while she sat down on the couch. She scrolled through the movies to find one for us to watch. I'm hoping she'll be well enough tomorrow to patrol, but she may need to stay home and rest...

I put the dishes in the dishwasher and start it, then go into the living room and sit beside her. I turn and prop my leg up on the couch and recline back against a large pillow, then gently pull Momo to lay on my chest between my legs.

"What movie did you pick?" I ask as she relaxes against my body.

"The Descent," she answers.

"Isn't that a horror movie? Are you sure you want to watch one for our night?" I question.

She nods and presses play. "Jirou told me this was a good one," she replies. "And if I get scared, you're here to protect me," she says while hugging me.

I grin and hug her back. "Alright, if that's what you want to watch," I chuckle.

As I sit watching this movie that appears to be about a group of friends who go cave crawling, I feel Momo gently breathing and lightly snoring. I adjust myself and look down and see that she's fast asleep. "Really? You didn't even make it halfway through. Hardly anything scary has happened," I quietly say as I lean back to finish the movie. I watch the rest of the movie with Momo sleeping on my chest. The movie really picked up during the last half, I definitely wasn't expecting that ending.

Once it ends I shut the TV off and sit up with Momo in my arms. I lift her up and carefully carry her to our bedroom and lay her on the bed. I pull my shirt and pants off and climb in beside her. I don't want to undress her and risk waking her up so I leave her be. I roll on my side, facing away from Momo and try to get to sleep without holding her in my arms.

(Yaoyorozu POV.)

I stir in my sleep then suddenly wake up. I look around and see I'm in my bed still fully dressed, looking down to my right I see that Shouto is still fast asleep. My stomach is churning worse than it was last night. I carefully remove the blankets from my body, trying not to disturb Shouto and get to my feet, but as soon as I stand up I can feel it coming up my throat.

I cup my hand over my mouth and rush to the bathroom, slamming the door behind me. I fling the toilet lid open and vomit. "Mmmm. What is wrong with me..?" I complain as I wipe my mouth with toilet paper. I toss it in the toilet and flush it all down.

I sit back and lean against the wall, holding my head as I start to feel light headed. "I've been feeling like this for the past few mornings but I've never thrown up before..." I complain quietly to myself.

I hear a knock at the door. "Momo. Are you okay?" Shouto asks.

"I'm fine now," I reply.

"Maybe you should stay home and rest today," he says to me.

"No. I'll go in and stay at the office today and take care of some paperwork. I can't just stay home and do nothing."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes."

"Okay... I'll make us some breakfast and then we can get going."

I hear his footsteps walk away towards the kitchen. I pull my phone out of my pocket, I slept with it in there, and I type up my symptoms into Google. The same results flood my screen, morning sickness. "Pregnant..?"

I sit trying to process this and read through nearly a dozen articles and I have most of the symptoms. "How did this even happen? We took the precautions..." I mumble. I set my hand over my stomach as the realization sets in that there might be something living and growing inside me. "A baby..? I shouldn't tell Shouto just yet... At least not until I'm sure."

Once I finally exited the bathroom I changed clothes and went to the kitchen where Shouto had made us omelettes. After we ate and Shouto got dressed we left for work. We walked to the agency through the layer of fresh snow that had coated the city overnight, neither of us speaking more than a few words every now and then.

I pull out my phone and check the time, then I open up my message box and type a message to Uraraka. She and Midoriya should be heading to the agency right around now too. "What are you doing?" Shouto asks as he tries to see what I was typing.

I send the message and turn the screen off. "Nothing," I reply as I take his hand and stick my phone in my pocket.

He doesn't look convinced but he doesn't press the matter. We make it to the enormous agency building and head up to our office on the twelfth floor. We take our coats off and Shouto starts to get ready to head out on patrol.

"You sure you'll be fine today?" he asks me as I sit down at the computer.

"Yeah. I'm feeling a lot better now," I lie. I am completely stressing out, but at least I don't feel like I'll puke.

"Okay. Just keep the waste basket close incase," he tells me. I nod and turn on my computer. Suddenly Shouto wraps his arms around me from behind, leaning over and resting his head beside mine. "I love you. Get better," he quietly says.

It's killing me not to bring it up, but I don't want to throw off his focus. He needs to be at a hundred percent, especially while out in this weather. "I love you too Shouto. Stay safe today," I say as I rub his arm.

He kisses my cheek and lets me go. "I will." With that, he leaves.

I sigh and rest my head against my hand as I stare at the computer screen. Not too long after Shouto left I hear a knock on the door. I turn to see Uraraka and Midoriya standing in the doorway. "Come on in," I wave them in.

They both walk in, neither one of them dressed in their hero costumes yet. "Hey Momo," Uraraka says as she approaches me. "I got what you asked me for. Deku was with me so he knows too..." she says as she hands me a grocery bag.

I take it and look inside and see three different pregnancy tests. "Thank you for picking these up for me. I couldn't do it with Shouto with me."

"You haven't told Todoroki?" Midoriya asks.

I shake my head and set the bag on my desk. "I don't want him to know just yet, especially if it's false. I also don't want any extra concerns in his head since he's on his own today," I reply.

"I guess that makes sense," he says as he rubs the back of his head. "Does anyone else know?"

"No. Just you two. And please don't tell anyone even after I take these."

"We won't," Uraraka replies. "Are you going to take them now?"

I look at them both and they appear to be waiting eagerly for me to take them so that they can know. I let out a small sigh and pick up the bag. "I suppose there's no point in putting it off..."

A/N: Alright I think I've gotten a decent idea of where the next chapter will be going. I'm probably going to be working on it later today after I go out and get some ice cream ^.^ it is so damn hot today where I live 0.o I hope you enjoyed this chapter.

Also, with this one I do plan to have plenty of stuff going on that revolves around them being Pros and whatnot ^.^

Oh! And for those of you who like horror movies like I do, I highly recommend watching The Descent. It came out in '06 and it scared the absolute shit out of me the first time I watched it. 👍 Don't watch the second one though, it's nowhere as good as the original :P
